I have upgraded from 16.04 to 18.04 and I am missing the top bar on multiple
monitors.
I would like to have this feature by default.

[Bug 1824699] Re: gnome-calendar pango critical

2019-04-29 Thread Dennis Baudys
I can confirm this bug. Same problem here with Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
(Kernel 4.18.0-18-generic #19~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP). gnome-calendar
crashes after entering a city in the calendar weather plugin for the
first time:

(gnome-calendar:12200): GcalWeatherSettings-WARNING **: 11:22:20.176: Unknown
location 'Düsseldorf' selected
Speicherzugriffsfehler (Speicherabzug geschrieben)

gnome-calendar:
  Installiert: 3.28.2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1

The above mentioned workaround by Oliver Ritter seems to work to get the
calendar started again: I removed "Düsseldorf" from:

org.gnome.calendar weather-settings (true, false, 'Düsseldorf', nothing)

and voila. Just for fun I tried to enter a city name in the weather
plugin of the calendar again. And this time the calendar crashed already
when entering the german Umlaut "ü" (second letter in my city name
"Düsseldorf").

[Bug 1765390] Re: printer settings: add switch for disable autodetect and add

2019-04-29 Thread klinge
Me to: "I miss a switch in the printer settings to disable automatic
detection and adding."

I'm running Ubuntu 18.04.2 and under http://localhost:631/printers/ there are
only the printers I actually installed manually.
In gnome-settings all printers in the network are constantly added and it is
impossible to remove them. This is pretty annoying.

It would be nice if the primary included gnome-shell extensions, eg
apps-menu and places-menu (and by extension the topbar) supported multi-
monitor similar to how the bottom bar 'window-list' currently does. This
was easy to achieve on Gnome 2 and now via MATE (out of the box) but
there does not appear to be any way to do this with Gnome 3. This also
leads to there not being a way to do this via 'Gnome Classic'. Even
Windows finally (in W10) does this better out of the box than Gnome 3.

BTW - Intel has supported IGP triple head since Ivy Bridge (2012) so it
is very cheap to deploy a triple head system (~ $200 for 3 1080p
monitors). AMD supports up to quad head in their IGPs.

This has been blocking me from moving to Gnome 3 since its release and I
finally decided to write a bug report about it. I have had all multi-
monitor systems since prior to 2004.

What is "the primary"?

Can you be more specific? What feature do you want, exactly?

i.e. these:

In particular apps-menu, and places-menu as window-list already properly
supports multiple monitors. I would like to be able to replicate the
look (at least more or less) of what is shown in the MATE 1.18.0 picture
attached to this BZ. You can already do this with Gnome Classic for 1
screen, but not for more than 1.

The previously mentioned 3rd party extension does work to replicate the
'Activities' button but does not replicate the others mentioned and
would be better suited in the official set of extensions so that it does
not break in the future as it has often in the past with new gnome
releases.

Definitely Gnome Shell, since starting e.g. "Files" (Nautilus) from the

app was active before.

[Bug 1826830] [NEW] newly launched apps start unfocused

2019-04-29 Thread Martin Vysny
Public bug reported:

For example, pressing the ENTER key on a .png image in Krusader will
start the Gnome Image Viewer (if Krusader is so configured), however the
focus returns back to the Krusader. Pressing DEL would then delete files
in the Krusader; pressing any keys controls the Krusader but since it's
obscured by the Image Viewer, it's hard to see what's going on. This is
highly confusing to me.

A better solution would be either to start the Image Viewer focused, or
to start the Image Viewer in the background, behind krusader (and
perhaps flashing the icon in the Unity dock).

I'm not sure whether the bug is in Krusader itself, or in Gnome-Shell
(being a window manager), I'm a bit guessing here :)

[Bug 1826544] Re: media button to disable touchpad not working

2019-04-29 Thread Tim Tisdall
I'm not sure I understand your questions...

If you're asking if I have the same problem when logging in with a
different user, then "yes" it also doesn't work when logging in with a
2nd account that's on my machine. That 2nd account existed before the
upgrade to 18.04.

Also, the keys to disable the touchpad work fine on the login screen.

The only thing I see in journalctl is this:

Apr 29 10:43:47 zenbook org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3232]: Window manager
warning: Overwriting existing binding of keysym 73 with keysym 73
(keycode 2f).

@Misha, thanks for your detailled comment.

what do you mean there? GNOME can't really control what websites are
doing, if chrome(ium) has the issue and not firefox it suggests it's
possible to get it right and the issue is rather on the Google
webbrowsers side.

Also the browser could make it obvious and e.g display an icon on the
tabs, the same way they do it for indicating that a tab is playing sound

Does this also happen with Ubuntu Disco? I checked upstream and there

commit 6c8bc39f570ea82cf14e83ce7d1dbdbe569d09d1
Author: Ondrej Holy

smbbrowse: Force NT1 protocol version for workgroup support

"Windows Network" doesn't work with recent samba versions, because
"client max protocol" has been changed from NT1 to SMB3 recently.
NT1 is mandatory for workgroup support. Let's force NT1 using the
newly added smbc_setOptionProtocols API if available. But force this
only when neither hostname, nor IP address is used. This among others
prevents complete breakage if NT1 is disabled on server. Use GResolver
to implement this heuristic.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=780958

In the SRU test, smbstatus does show some NT1 connections, but in the end the
share connection is using SMB3.11, which is what we want.

Since the machine now shows up, and it wasn't before, this may warrant a
new separate bug.

Do you do anything special to get the issue? Does it happen every time
even on first use after a reboot?

[Bug 1778322] Re: gvfs-smb-browse can't browse samba/smb tree

2019-04-29 Thread Morbius1
My post concerns Ubuntu Disco. I'm guessing Win10 sees the SMBv1
connection, rejects it outright, and never gets to the protocol
negotiation phase.

As I said this only involves the gvfsd-smb-browse process: Nautilus >
Other Locations > Windows Network > Workgroup

If I use Connect to Server I can access the Win10 box without changing
anything on the WIn10 side.

[Bug 1778322] Re: gvfs-smb-browse can't browse samba/smb tree

2019-04-29 Thread Morbius1
smbclient -L, "gio mount smb://server/share ', even just specifying
smb://server/share in the location bar in Nautilus works just like you
would expect.

It's only the gvfsd-smb-browse process that's messed up.

As far as it being a related but different problem Well I reckon it
all depends on what you mean by fixed.

The original issue was you couldn't get a listing of samba hosts in
Nautilus so yes that issue is fixed.

But why did we want to get the list in the first place? I would argue so
that you could gain access to those hosts from the same process and here
it only applies to hosts that still allow NT1 / SMB1.

[Bug 1778322] Re: gvfs-smb-browse can't browse samba/smb tree

Here's a different perspective. Accessing the Win10 machine again:

Reconnecting with SMB1 for workgroup listing.
protocol negotiation failed: NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_RESET
Unable to connect with SMB1 -- no workgroup available

tester@vub1904:~$ smbclient //vwin10/Shared -U smbuser
Unable to initialize messaging context
Enter WORKGROUP\smbuser's password:
Try "help" to get a list of possible commands.
smb: \>

And the equivalent of smbstatus on Windows:
Windows PowerShell
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> Get-SmbSession | Select Dialect,ClientComputerName

Dialect ClientComputerName
--- --
3.1.1 192.168.1.177

smbclient -L automatically goes to SMB1 to get the share listing then
tells me it cannot connect to these which makes sense in that state.

Yet I can use smbclient itself to access the share if I specify it. This
is what gvfsd-smb-browse needs to do. Drop down to NT1 to get the share
list which it's doing now then release it and allow the normal smb
negotiation to take place.

[Bug 1778322] Re: gvfs-smb-browse can't browse samba/smb tree

2019-04-29 Thread Morbius1
Your reference to the Linux Samba Server command: smbstatus got me
thinking what would happen if I disabled NT1 on a Linux Samba server by
stipulating "server min protocol = SMB2" and using Windows Network > ...
to connect.

The exact same thing happens as when trying to connect to a Win10
machine that's disabled SMBv1.

It a different error message: Invalid Argument ( Linux Server ) vs
Network dropped connection on reset ( Windows Server ) but the affect is
the same. Connection to the host isn't possible through gvfsd-smb-
browse. If I reset the Linux server by removing server min protocol =
SMB2 it all works because now NT1 was restored.

Maybe I'm reading too much into your quote:
"Let's force NT1 using the
newly added smbc_setOptionProtocols API if available. But force this
only when neither hostname, nor IP address is used. This among others
prevents complete breakage if NT1 is disabled on server."

Is it possible they knew this would happen?

Linux doesn't disable SMB1 by default in its server but Windows 10 does
on new builds.

I indeed think interacting with a server that has disabled SMB1 entirely

[Bug 398687] Re: Gnome shutdown dialog timeout cannot be adjusted

2019-04-29 Thread Mike Nakis
> The timeout is there mainly for people who select the action,
> and then forget to confirm the action and walk away.

The timeout as a feature has an extremely bad ratio of befuddleness vs.
usefulness to the user.

When a feature is only marginally useful, and yet it is bound to confuse
people every time they see it, then the feature needs to be either
redesigned or left out. I would not mind at all seeing it left out, but
if you want some suggestion as to how it could be improved, here:

a) Move the text below the buttons, make it tiny so that it looks like a
footnote, and change it to "if you do nothing the machine will shut down
in X seconds". This way, the text makes sense. As it is now, it
doesn't.

b) Make the number of seconds auto-refresh to show the actual number of
seconds remaining. As it stands now, the user is under the impression
that the countdown is not counting (part of the befudleness I mentioned
earlier) so 59 seconds later the dialog will still read "shutdown in 60
seconds" and then poof -- it shuts down in your face. That's terrible
as far as user experience is concerned.

[Bug 1792544] Re: demotion of pcre3 (8.x) a.k.a pcre (without the 3) in favor of pcre2 (10.x)

2019-04-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package zsh - 5.7.1-1ubuntu1

---
zsh (5.7.1-1ubuntu1) eoan; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining changes:
- debian/zshrc: Enable completions by default, unless skip_global_compinit
  is set.
- Support cross-compiling:
  - Adjust upstream autoconf cross-compile default fallbacks.
  - Skip zcompile when cross-compiling.
  - Add libelf-dev dependency.
  * Dropped changes, included upstream:
- debian/patches/CVE-2018-0502-and-CVE-2018-13259.patch:
fix in Src/exec.c and add test Test/A05execution.ztst.
- Cherrypick upstream patch to fix A05execution.ztst test case. Resolves
  autopkgtest failure.

[Bug 322271] Re: Sorting by name doesn't work well with digits or special chars

2019-04-29 Thread Mitch Butler
I'm not sure if this is the same bug or a different one. I am using ubuntu
14.04 LTS. I have a directory containing other directories. They sort correctly
with "ls -l". But they show up in Nautilus as:
20190428_96a11107 <- wrong order
20190428_1271f6a8
20190428_4314187e
20190428_a4b67026
20190428_a9637c2a
20190428_bd912fd3
20190428_c7b6ee8a <- wrong order
20190428_c408cf3c
20190428_ec90884e

I am not aware of any hidden special characters in the names. It is easy to
reproduce on my machine. Just go to an empty folder and do:
touch 20190428_1271f6a8
touch 20190428_4314187e
touch 20190428_96a11107
touch 20190428_a4b67026
touch 20190428_a9637c2a
touch 20190428_bd912fd3
touch 20190428_c408cf3c
touch 20190428_c7b6ee8a
touch 20190428_ec90884e

They sort correctly with "ls -l", but not with Nautilus.

I haven't tried a more recent version of ubuntu. Should I report this
somewhere else?

[Bug 1826266] Re: Nautilus no longer copies file path when a file is marked then copied

2019-04-29 Thread florin
I am also one of those who want this. It was very useful to upload files
in emails/browser, to open certain files in any program without browsing
for the file. Hope it comes back, soon.

[Bug 1812527] Re: [bionic][regression] gnome-shell crashes with SIGSEGV in meta_window_actor_is_destroyed(self=NULL) called from _switchWorkspaceDone() [windowManager.js:1787]

2019-04-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears we still get crash reports for this from the latest gnome-
shell version 3.28.3+git20190124-0ubuntu18.04.1

So it's interesting the bug still doesn't exist in 3.30 and later.

It's also interesting there is one crash report from version:

  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/3.30.1-2ubuntu1.18.10.2

from bionic. Not from cosmic where that version was targeted. That
suggests to me the problem might actually be in some other package more
related to bionic than to the gnome-shell version.

[Bug 1826944] Re: green bars in ubuntu videos

2019-04-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please:

1. Attach a screenshot or photo of the problem.

2. Tell us which video player apps are affected.

3. Try this:

   sudo apt install mpv

and then use 'mpv VIDEOFILE.mp4'. Does it have the same problem?

4. Run:

   vainfo > vainfo.txt

and send us the resulting file 'vainfo.txt'.
