[Bug 1825766] Re: search results don't match apt search
@stuardo: The reason for Guake being missing is that the `guake.desktop` file in `/usr/share/applications` is a symbolic link *and* the application doesn't ship a metainfo file. This is forbidden: https://wiki.debian.org/AppStream/Guidelines The .desktop file being a symlink results in Guake basically not being seen by the metadata generator at all. To fix this, either the .desktop file needs to be an actual file, and not a symlink, or a metainfo file[1] has to be shipped with this package. Ideally both. The reason this package is missing is simply a result of nobody caring enough to submit a patch or do a bit of work to make this app show up for a few years now (it never was in the catalog, as far as I can tell). Maybe a good case for a patch submission? ;-) [1]: https://www.freedesktop.org/software/appstream/metainfocreator/#/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1825766 Title: search results don't match apt search To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1825766/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1825766] Re: search results don't match apt search
Still an issue in Ubuntu 20.04. Following @ximion's explanation, Guake IS a GUI application that should be listed in gnome-software. "Ubuntu Sofware", when searching for "guake" shows - electerm ("guake" in description) - guake-cl (change colour) - guake indicator So, if it lists related apps but not the app itself, it confuses the user. The fallback was to open a term and `apt install guake`. [Bug 1876346] [NEW] Documents cannot be opened in desktop UI on storage device
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have an external storage that I access by my local network (Datatank Gateway - Freecom). I had Ubuntu 18.04 version and I could access to this external device without problems. I could move all files from-to the external device and open and execute them properly. I upgraded to 20.04 Ubuntu version and it stopped to access to this device. Then I changed smb.conf file adding the line: "client min protocol = NT1" and then I got access to the device. I can see the folders and subfolders, but all icons are folders, even the .xls or .doc or .pdf are shown as folders. I cannot transfer them from external device to any of my internal folders in my pc. I can read some of them, like .doc, but I have to select manually what program I need to execute to read it. .pdf files can also be read. But .xls or .pgn or .mp3 cannot be read. An error message appear saying "Content cannot be shown. It is not a folder". In summary I have access to me external device but I cannot manage normally any of the files inside my external device, as I did before with ubuntu version 18.04. [Bug 1874262] Re: User session does not start: Problem with chrome-remote-desktop
There's only one GDM greeter in this case. The bug is that if there's *any* other PAM/loginctl session for the user of type "x11", GDM will fail to log the user in without the above patch. When Chrome Remote Desktop starts at boot, it creates such a user session (via PAM) under the user who has configured it. This session is used to run the Chrome Remote Desktop host process, an instance of Xvfb, and, if the user hasn't configured a custom CRD session script to run at boot, a very simple session chooser. Even if the session only contains sleep 5000, however, its mere presence is enough to break GDM for that user. I experimented with setting the session type used by CRD to "unspecified", but that ended up breaking programs running with the CRD session, so fixing the GDM bug seems to be the only path forward. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874262 Title: User session does not start: Problem with chrome-remote-desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gdm/+bug/1874262/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1876352] [NEW] App Grid icons out of alignment when opening from overview
Public bug reported: Affected version: Ubuntu 20.04 Gnome Shell Version 3.36.1 Only tested on xorg Bug summary: When opening the App Grid (aka "Show Applications) from the window overview (I don't know the technical terms) the icons shift out of alignment. This gets worse if you have multiple pages of apps (as I do), and it gets even worse the more you open and close the App Grid in this manner. I cannot see the same bug if you just open the App Grid from the desktop. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open the overview window using the Super Key 2. Click the "Show Applications" icon 3. You will see the icons in the App Grid shift downwards 4. Scroll down to see the icons move further out of alignment What did GNOME Shell do that was unexpected?: Display the App Window icons out of alignment when accessing the app grid via the window overview (pressing the Super key) What did you expect to happen: I expected the icons to display properly. [Bug 1876308] Re: in GIO 2.64.2 (Ubuntu 20.04) smb file attributes corrupted
It seems to be the same problem as bug 1872476, but there it seems to affect samba. I found that samba 4.11.7 alone works fine and that the bug only occurs if the samba shares are mounted with gio mount. Therefore I suppose it is a gio bug. [Bug 1854403] Re: Need updated libimobiledevice and dependencies to access iOS 13 devices
Ok, so this is progress. Building against gnutls fixes the trust pairing, but breaks file transfers. I rebuild the same source with openssl vs gnutls and that's exactly what I see. With openssl I have to re-pair every time I plug in but with gnutls, the file transfers don't work. The official ubuntu build uses gnutls so that's why we see the behaviour we do, and why the git version ubuntu uses should be new enough - it is with openssl. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to libimobiledevice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1854403 Title: Need updated libimobiledevice and dependencies to access iOS 13 devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libimobiledevice/+bug/1854403/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I've upgraded to 20.04 and have checked out the installed versions. For now, I was able to get it working "just" by upgrading libimobiledevice to the latest git and building against gnutls (using openssl resulted in it needing to re-trust every time I plug in because the TLS information it is saving is wrong, somehow). gtk2 and python2 are obsolete. ... and so is anything that uses them. virtaal in focal uses gtk3 and python3, and does not depend on python- glade2. The rest are not shipped in focal. How or why did you generate this list? Ubuntu ships modern, maintained software, that is security supportable. When things no longer meet basic maintenance criteria, they get removed. If and when software gets ported to supported stacks, they do come back. If you want any of that software, do work on porting it, or publish it elsehow (i.e. as vendorized confined snaps). ** Changed in: pygtk (Ubuntu) Status: New => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to pygtk in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876276 Title: Consider to include python-glade2 package into 20.04 LTS (focal) repositories as it is a dependency of many other packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pygtk/+bug/1876276/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1876308] [NEW] in GIO 2.64.2 (Ubuntu 20.04) smb file attributes corrupted
Public bug reported: If the samba protocol is reduced to SMB-1 (option client max protocol = NT1 in smb.conf), in all samba shares mounted with gio mount, the mounting used by file managers like Nautilus or Thunar, ordinary files are displayed as empty folders and therefore not usable. The problem seems to be new in Ubuntu 20.04 (samba 4.11 and GIO 2.64.2) because it did not exist in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (samba 4.7 and GIO 2.56.4). In a shell opened by smbclient or in samba-shares mounted via mount.cifs, in Ubuntu 20.02 all files are displayed correctly and usable, even when the protocol is reduced to SMB-1 (client max protocol = NT1 in smb.conf or mount-option vers 1.0). [Bug 1876272] [NEW] GTK + Wayland: Keyboard shortcuts not adapting non-Qwerty keyboard layout (Dvarok)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi, I recently started using Dvarok full time, and some (all GTK) software in Ubuntu fails to identify the changed layout when shortcuts (Ctrl + C, Ctrl + X, Ctrl + V etc) are pressed. For example, Ctrl + X makes text bold in Geary, as X is positioned where B would be in a Qwerty. In all GTK software Ctrl + V offers me to input emojis, but doesn't paste anything. Other software where I notice the same behaviour is Nautilus, the Gnome terminal, Ubuntu Software, Gnome Maps, Gnome Weather, Gnome Calendar, and the default Calculator. All non-gtk software behaves normally (such as Rstudio, LibreOffice, Atom, and FireFox). I'm currently running a Flatpak version of Geary installed in 18.04, while the rest are from default repositories. The behaviour is the same. Ctrl + Shift + C enters "^C" in the terminal, while Ctrl + Shift + J copies. I have rebooted the computer many times since switching to Dvarok. EDIT: The issue is connected to Wayland - after switching to X all applications behave normally. Sorry for not knowing the appropriate place to lodge this bug, or if it's a duplicate. Thanks for your work! [Bug 1865337] Re: Gnome 3 keeps adding VLC in Alt+Tab
Hi! Sorry for the late answer. Here is the return for `vlc --version`. The issue is relatively difficult to reproduce: I have a set of mkv/webm files that do it all the times, but if I set-up VLC with other files (mp3), the issue does not appear. ```bash $ vlc --version VLC media player 3.0.8 Vetinari (revision 3.0.8-0-gf350b6b5a7) VLC version 3.0.8 Vetinari (3.0.8-0-gf350b6b5a7) Compiled by buildd on lcy01-amd64-014.buildd (Sep 11 2019 11:39:37) Compiler: gcc version 7.4.0 (Ubuntu 7.4.0-1ubuntu1~18.04.1) This program comes with NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by law. You may redistribute it under the terms of the GNU General Public Licence; see the file named COPYING for details. Written by the VideoLAN team; see the AUTHORS file. ``` I was also able to reproduce the issue with LibreOffice: I launched LibreOffice, then switched workspace. Once LibreOffice was ready, it appeared “by surprise” in the Alt+Tab menu of another workspace. VLC and LibreOffice are both large softwares: maybe they both launch some kind of global instance in addition to the windows, and it is this global instance that trigger the Alt-Tab notification? I can’t tell, apart from the fact that each time this happens, I’m being caught by surprise 😅 I attaching the logs. At the time 11:50, it was VLC doing the Alt+Tab appearance in another workspace, and at 11:54, it was LibreOffice. I will try to reproduce the issue in a newly created session. ☺ Have a nice day ☺ Martin. ** Attachment added: "result of ` journalctl -b 0`" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1865337/+attachment/5364333/+files/log3 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1865337 Title: Gnome 3 keeps adding VLC in Alt+Tab To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1865337/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1876267] Re: Audio settings strange behaviour with ASUS STXII sound card
apport information ** Description changed: What happens: If an Asus STXII 7.1 sound card is installed and another output device is present, there is a strange behavior in the Gnome audio settings. After the first start of Ubuntu the Asus soundcard is not the default device. This can be selected in the Gnome settings. If a different speaker configuration is selected now. E.g. stereo instead of 5.1 or vice versa, the selection jumps from the Asus output device back to the original output device. The Asus sound card can then be selected again and the corresponding speaker configuration will fit now. If 5.1 is selected as the mode, there is a second problem. Moving the balance slider (left / right) moves the slider (front / back) slightly as well. + The slider for lfe is grayed out, even when I enable the lfe remixing in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf + In the speaker test, all 5.1 channels work fine, including the lfe. For better illustration I made a screen video. (see attachment) This is probably a general bug in Gnome - it has been occurring since Ubuntu 18.x and affects all distros that use Gnome since then. Unfortunately I was not able to make a report in Gnome, because the registration on the Gnome site does not work anymore... Maybe you have a good contact to the Gnome team? Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Release 20.04) Package: gnome-control-center (1:3.36.1-1ubuntu5) - Expected behavior: It should be possible to select the sound card and the setting should be retained even if the speaker configuration is changed. [Bug 1876262] [NEW] dismissed keystrokes after retyping the password in lockscreen
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, and gnome-shell 3.36.1-5ubuntu1 : On the lock screen: - enter an incorrect password - get message that its incorrect - the password field gets the focus and visually signifies that you can type again - the first couple of keystrokes (~700ms?) aren't buffered but dismissed, so the password is likely to be incorrect I expected the same behaviour as on Ubuntu <= 19.10, where no keystrokes get lost. Is this due to security measures? (Other than that i really like 20.04, great work!) ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876262 Title: dismissed keystrokes after retyping the password in lockscreen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1876262/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
