Why not just make it actually toggle Wayland fractional scaling?... [Bug 1825766] Re: search results don't match apt search
On 1): The metainfo/appdata file is only enough if it is complete, so, contains an icon reference and name/summary/etc. tags. If it doesn't, then you'll need the .desktop file as well and a launchable entry. On 2): All of these locations are wrong ^^ Metainfo files *must* be installed into /usr/share/metainfo in order to be valid. Refer to the AppStream specification (specifically https://www.freedesktop.org/software/appstream/docs/chap-Metadata.html#spec-component-location) for details. There's also an online tool to help people making metainfo files at https://www.freedesktop.org/software/appstream/metainfocreator/#/ now As for that existing "appdata" file, make sure it's actually an AppStream metainfo file before installing it somewhere else - maybe it just coincidentally has the same name as a metainfo file, but actually is something different. Also, google.chrome and network-manager need their metainfo locations fixed ;-) It's likely that support for the legacy location will go away soonish (almost nothing installs files there nowadays). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1825766 Title: search results don't match apt search To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1825766/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1825766] Re: search results don't match apt search
@ximion thank you for your comments. I understand the symlink issue. I'm now digging in the github/guake issues, and it looks like the solutionw as to include the appdata file. Now I have the following questions: 1. Is the apppdata enought? OR both the appdata AND symlink issues need to be solved? 2. The appdata file in the package is at /usr/share/guake/data/guake.appdata.xml I see other programs adding the appdata at /usrh/share/appdata/ like /usr/share/appdata/google-chrome.appdata.xml or /usr/share/appdata/network-manager-openvpn.metainfo.xml for example. Should the appdata file for guake be /usr/share/appdata/guake.xml? @ximion, you are right, a patch is missing, and it's time to work on that. [Bug 1864307] Re: Many apps have no icon in Software on Focal
Actually, I just realized that Ubuntu has its very own, new flavor of this bug due to shipping gnome-software as a Snap. The `appstream` package is seeded with the minimal desktop seed, which is good, but in order for the Snap version of GS to install any icons, the `apt-config-icons` package also has to be installed - GS isn't smart enough to fall back to downloading icons in many cases and expects those to be present. The `gnome-software` package depends on the icon config, but the Snap store doesn't have this on new installations. So, to fix this issue both the patch I linked in this report and a default dependency on `apt-config-icons` is needed. The reason the `appstream` package doesn't depend on the icons on its own is that the data may also be used on servers and more minimal systems (e.g. for firmware and driver information) where downloading the icons isn't required. Therefore, all software centers in Debian/Ubuntu depend on the `apt-config-icons*` package(s) they need. ** Changed in: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1864307 Title: Many apps have no icon in Software on Focal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-software/+bug/1864307/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1876937] Re: Dock location reversed in RTL
Mmhmh, I think the problem is more in control-center than in the dock, no? In the sense that the code of the dock just considers a dock set to the "left" in RTL world to be actually to the right. Uninstalling the apt version and then installing the Flatpak version didnt make any difference for me - very disappointed. [Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.
In comment #50, I said having the proprietary drivers aren't necessary. I was wrong, but I thought it was true because I had the problem on an nvidia system without manually installing the nvidia drivers. I just learned from an episode of the Ubuntu Podcast that since Ubuntu 19.10, proprietary drivers are included with the ISO, and that they're automatically enabled when you check the "install third-party software" option during install. That's interesting, because it means that the conditions for encountering this bug are: 1. Have a system with an affected nvidia graphics card. 2. Check both "enable automatic login" and "install third-party software" during install. I don't know the stats, but I would bet most people check the third- party software box, and that lots of people want automatic login. In my opinion, this makes the issue significantly more important, because people will encounter this issue without entering "Additional Drivers" and manually enabling the proprietary drivers. Especially considering there's a simple workaround available ("nvidia- drm.modeset=1" in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX) which doesn't affect any features, I think it would be good to get a hotfix out there before the upstream nvidia proprietary drivers are fixed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1845801 Title: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. If I set scaling to 125, 150, or 200%, the setting is remembered and used the next time I log in. If I set scaling to 100%, however, the next time I log in the scaling switches back to 200% automatically. I only want to use fractional scaling for external monitors. + + [ Test case ] + + - Use a multi-monitor setup + - Enable Fractional scaling under X11 (from display settings) + - Setup mixed-DPI settings in gnome-control-center + - Log-out + - Log-in again + + Settings should be preserved + + [ Regression potential ] + + It's not possible to set some scaling combinations any more with + multiple or single monitors. + + - Configuration is not restored at all. + + [ Known issue ] + + Monitor settings won't be preserved disabling fractional scaling or + enabling it in the wayland session. + + + - Background: This is on a Dell XPS 9360 with a 1920x1080 ~168 DPI screen. Pretty standard configuration. I have my DisplaySize set to 294x165 in Xorg.conf, Xft.dpi=168, GTK font scaling factor 1.0. I have been unable to find an appropriate combination of settings where 168 DPI is respected for accurate font rendering, while at the same time not scaling up the rest of the UI to unusable proportions. Fractional scaling seems to be the only way to adjust some Gnome UI elements. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1825593 Title: Display scale and layout not remembered when X11 Fractional Scaling is enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1825593/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I had this bug in 19.10, just uninstalled Nvidia driver and used nouveau, however I just clean installed 20.04, forgot about the bug and ran into it again. This time I had time to mess around, and ended up updating my bios from f40 to f50a which solved the issue for some reason.
