[Bug 31596] [Dapper] Text is not rendered properly
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31596 Comment: Adding the following lines to fonts.conf solves the problem: !-- Alias well known Type1 font names to metric-equivalent TrueType fonts -- alias familyTimes/family acceptfamilyFreeSerif/family/accept /alias alias familyHelvetica/family acceptfamilyFreeSans/family/accept /alias alias familyCourier/family acceptfamilyFreeMono/family/accept /alias alias familySymbol/family acceptfamilyStandard Symbols L/family/accept /alias I think these fonts are metrically equivalent to the Adobe fonts. The alias for Symbol is necessary for some PDF files that use Times- compatible math fonts without embedding them. After this change, the command fc-match Times gives: FreeSerif.ttf: FreeSerif Medium instead of: VeraSe.ttf: Bitstream Vera Serif Roman. Then the svn-book.pdf file that Vincent Trouilliez identified as a problem looks fine under evince, as do the others I've tested. I don't think it's necessary to substitute the Microsoft equivalents of these fonts (like SUSE does), even if the msttcorefonts package is installed. Substituting Times New Roman for Times, in particular, look worse than substituting FreeSerif in my humble opinion. Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34894 Affects: gnome-vfs2 (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: since new upgrade all mounted partition are shown in mount disk applet, desktop and Places. On a system with different partitions for system (/home, /usr, etc) and many partitioned disks, these policy leads to an incredibly crowded desktop and a mostly useless mount applet, that spans through all panel's width. I think this policy must be seriously reconsidered because it looks terribly, it is not easily configurable and turns out to be a quite violent approach towards users. besides it doesn't make any sense to see an internal partition of the system (e.g. the /usr partition) as an independent disk, and can be confusing to a new-user. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 23644] Gnome volume control applet doesn't work anymore
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/23644 Comment: I don't know whether its worth adding further comment to this or not since it's been forwarded upstream, but I encountered the same issue today. I have been using the 'Kresky Lines' icon theme for a number of days and the volume icon was visible. I downloaded a number of updates today and then after they were installed I noticed the disappearance of my volume applet. Some searching on the Ubuntu Forums turned up someone with a similar problem and they described how they had changed themes and 'rediscovered' their volume applet. Following this advice I was able to find mine again. I'm a little mystified as to why it worked for a week and then stopped working. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 34896] Tango orange icons might not be HIG compliant
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34896 Comment: While we do respect the Gnome HIG on applications, there is clearly a need for some more modern work on icon style guides and a need for a palette that fits well with Ubuntu. The Tango icon style guidelines are very well written, and Lapo is attempting to follow those. Our own Human style is a work-in-progress, and will likely incorporate Tango elements and Gnome elements. While I appreciate that we need to preserve compatibility and ensure usability with good icon theming, I don't believe we should be limited to the Gnome HIG on icons. If you would like, I would invite you to help define a Human Icon Style Guide once this first draft round is done, and we are in a position to see what worked and what did not. subscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED] status rejected -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 34917] dmraid devices not shown in Computer in 2.14.0-0ubuntu1
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34917 Description changed to: Now all partitions are shown in Computer as removable drives, I guess to provide a place to mount/unmount them easily. Well, this does not work with dmraid volumes: the individual partitions are shown (for example /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1) but not the dmraid volume (/dev/mapper/whatever1). It is likely that the useful partition to show is the dmraid one. So i think that: - dmraid partitions should be shown - Individual partitions forming the raid should be hidden by default and/or an option should be given to hide/show individual partitions in Computer. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
