Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34855

Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)

Starting with an empty trash, if I drag a single file to it or 'touch
~/.Trash/foo', the trash icon immediately becomes full. Hovering over
it with my mouse, however, reports 5 Items in the Wastebasket.

2 files will report 10.

[Bug 34800] new login with same user results in gnome using another theme

2006-03-14 Thread Marius Gedminas
Public bug report changed:

This was a limitation of gnome-settings-daemon: it refused to start more

I upgraded my Dapper today, and among the changelogs noticed that gnome-
settings-daemon is now registered per $DISPLAY. I just tried it, and I
can log in more than once on different X displays, and get the correct
GNOME theme.

[Bug 34858] Edit Clear does nothing

2006-03-14 Thread Dana Olson
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34858

Affects: xchat-gnome (Ubuntu)

Description:
Selecting Edit Clear does not clear the channel buffer (equivalent to
pressing CTRL+L), nor does it clear the text input box. If it has a
function, it is clearly not visible.

I assigned CTRL+L to this menu option (I have the global GNOME option
enabled to change accelerators), and then CTRL+L stopped functioning
properly as well, even after clearing the accelerator.

[Bug 34203] smb access almost unusable slow in Dapper compared to Breezy

2006-03-14 Thread rubinstein
Public bug report changed:

Comment:
What can I do to debug this problem? It often takes 10, 15 seconds to
display the contents of a new folder in nautilus and system monitor
shows a lot of network traffic (it seems it takes longer if there are
more files in this folder) whereas konqueror displays the same folder in
under a second, so I assume the smb network is correctly configured
(with shares-admin). Preview in nautilus is only local, so that should
be no problem.

[Bug 31596] [Dapper] Text is not rendered properly

2006-03-14 Thread edschofield
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31596

Comment:
Adding the following lines to fonts.conf solves the problem:

!--
Alias well known Type1 font names to metric-equivalent TrueType fonts
--
alias
familyTimes/family
acceptfamilyFreeSerif/family/accept
/alias
alias
familyHelvetica/family
acceptfamilyFreeSans/family/accept
/alias
alias
familyCourier/family
acceptfamilyFreeMono/family/accept
/alias
alias
familySymbol/family
acceptfamilyStandard Symbols L/family/accept
/alias

I think these fonts are metrically equivalent to the Adobe fonts. The
alias for Symbol is necessary for some PDF files that use Times-
compatible math fonts without embedding them.

After this change, the command
fc-match Times
gives:
FreeSerif.ttf: FreeSerif Medium
instead of:
VeraSe.ttf: Bitstream Vera Serif Roman.
Then the svn-book.pdf file that Vincent Trouilliez identified as a problem
looks fine under evince, as do the others I've tested.

I don't think it's necessary to substitute the Microsoft equivalents of
these fonts (like SUSE does), even if the msttcorefonts package is
installed. Substituting Times New Roman for Times, in particular, look
worse than substituting FreeSerif in my humble opinion. See attached
screenshots.

[Bug 34883] Bad UI design in 'View as' button

2006-03-14 Thread LKRaider
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34883

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
The big View as (Icons/List) button is a good example of a bad case of
UI design. Apart from being text-only, the functionality it offers could
be easily replaced by one smaller, graphical, switching button that
would work for every click.

Currently, you have to make two clicks to change the view, and it always
shows two options, when you really just can select one of them that will
have any effect at all.

This shows how much the UI team is tied to old historical UI design
ideas.

Please forward this upstream for consideration.

[Bug 31441] disk space warning: show mount point in addition to label

2006-03-14 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31441

Task: ubuntu gnome-volume-manager
Status: In Progress = Fix Released

Comment:
 gnome-volume-manager (1.5.15-0ubuntu1) dapper; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream version:
 - Install autostart .desktop file into /usr/share/gnome/autostart instead
   of /usr/share/autostart.
 - Reduce 'low disk space' warning to threshold to 5%. (Malone #33770)
 - Remove percent_freed gconf value and usage, so that low disk space
notifications do not stop at 97.5%. (Malone #33058)
 - Small bug fixes.
   * debian/rules: Adapt moving of the autostart file to /etc/xdg/autostart.
   * Adapted patches to new upstream version:
 - 02_pmount_crypt.patch
   * Add debian/patches/07_low_disk_space_no_media.patch:
 - Do not notify about low disk space on mounts below /media (usually
removable drives) since they are just annoying and not critical for
   system stability. (Malone #32370)
   * Add debian/patches/08_low_disk_space_no_readonly.patch:
 - Use statvfs() instead of statfs() since the latter is deprecated and
statvfs() additionally tells us mount flags.
 - Do not notify about low disk space for read-only mounts. (Malone #34618)
   * Add debian/patches/09_low_disk_space_always_show_mountpoint.patch:
 - Always show the mount point in low disk space notifications to avoid
confusion with ambiguous labels (but only if the label is different from
   the mount point). (Malone #31441)

[Bug 33967] A way to disable low disk space warnings

2006-03-14 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33967

Comment:
The recent gnome-volume-manager 1.5.15-0ubuntu1 has a lot of fixes for
the notifications and should behave a lot better. However, it still does
not allow you to selectively disable notifications for particular
drives. I will ask upstream about that.

[Bug 34888] Cannot print multiple copies of documents

2006-03-14 Thread Brendon Gleeson
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34888

Affects: evince (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I am unable to print multiple copies of PDF (other formats also?)
documents from evince.

When I select to print more than 1 copy in the gnome print dialog in
evince, Evince will just print a single copy -no matter what.

This is a MAJOR showstopper for breezy's default document viewer as it
means I have to use an alternative such as xpdf instead.

[Bug 34889] Please re-enable mini-commander

2006-03-14 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34889

Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
gnome-applets 2.14.0-0ubuntu1 disables mini-commander applet and
recommends deskbar-applet instead. I dont think it's a good idea :

desbar-applet is not really a good replacement for mini-commander:
 * it has a huge memory footprint
 * it doesn't auto-complete application names like mini-commander does.
 * it does a lot of things that users of mini-commander don't need (or they
wouldn't be using mini-commander)
Could you please consider re-enabling mini-commander ?

Thank you,

[Bug 34894] useless volume management policies

2006-03-14 Thread hva
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34894

Affects: gnome-vfs2 (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
since new upgrade all mounted partition are shown in mount disk applet,
desktop and Places. On a system with different partitions for system
(/home, /usr, etc) and many partitioned disks, these policy leads to an
incredibly crowded desktop and a mostly useless mount applet, that spans
through all panel's width. I think this policy must be seriously
reconsidered because it looks terribly, it is not easily configurable
and turns out to be a quite violent approach towards users. besides it
doesn't make any sense to see an internal partition of the system (e.g.
the /usr partition) as an independent disk, and can be confusing to a
new-user.

[Bug 23644] Gnome volume control applet doesn't work anymore

2006-03-14 Thread Mustard
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/23644

Comment:
I don't know whether its worth adding further comment to this or not
since it's been forwarded upstream, but I encountered the same issue
today. I have been using the 'Kresky Lines' icon theme for a number of
days and the volume icon was visible. I downloaded a number of updates
today and then after they were installed I noticed the disappearance of
my volume applet. Some searching on the Ubuntu Forums turned up someone
with a similar problem and they described how they had changed themes
and 'rediscovered' their volume applet. Following this advice I was
able to find mine again. I'm a little mystified as to why it worked for
a week and then stopped working.

Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When the track changes in Rhythmbox, a notification bubble is shown.
This bubble tends to be mis-shapen at the bottom, depending on the
length of the track/album/artist name being displayed.

the notification bubble, stretching the left edge of the bubble.

[Bug 34896] Tango orange icons might not be HIG compliant

2006-03-14 Thread Mark Shuttleworth
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34896

Comment:

While we do respect the Gnome HIG on applications, there is clearly a
need for some more modern work on icon style guides and a need for a
palette that fits well with Ubuntu. The Tango icon style guidelines are
very well written, and Lapo is attempting to follow those. Our own Human
style is a work-in-progress, and will likely incorporate Tango elements
and Gnome elements.

While I appreciate that we need to preserve compatibility and ensure
usability with good icon theming, I don't believe we should be limited
to the Gnome HIG on icons. If you would like, I would invite you to help
define a Human Icon Style Guide once this first draft round is done, and
we are in a position to see what worked and what did not.

2. The size of the different hard-drives are very different/incompatible

like for other icons - this is consistent and leads to a more
homogeneous look and feel.

[Bug 31402] gnome-session properties hangs, when writing to files it doesn't have permisions to modify

2006-03-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31402

Task: ubuntu gnome-session
Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released

Comment:
That upload fixes the issue:

 gnome-session (2.14.0-0ubuntu1) dapper; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream version:
 Session Manager
 - Support old directory for autostart .desktop files
 - Fix leak
 - Fix enabling/disabling of autostart services (Ubuntu: #31402)
 Misc
 - New splash screen
   * debian/patches/01_fix_autostart_path.patch:
 - fixed with the new version
   * debian/patches/01_fix_autostart_edition.patch:
 - patch from Vincent Untz, fix the autostart edition

Now removing doesn't hang but doesn't do anything neither for non-user
.desktop, that's an another issue. The hang is fixed and the enable toggle
button works fine too so it makes possible to desactivate a .desktop for the
user which fixes the issue. I'm closing the bug, feel free to reopen if you
disagree

[Bug 34917] dmraid devices not shown in Computer in 2.14.0-0ubuntu1

2006-03-14 Thread jalonsom
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34917

Description changed to:
Now all partitions are shown in Computer as removable drives, I
guess to provide a place to mount/unmount them easily.

Well, this does not work with dmraid volumes: the individual
partitions are shown (for example /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1) but not
the dmraid volume (/dev/mapper/whatever1). It is likely that the
useful partition to show is the dmraid one.

So i think that:
  - dmraid partitions should be shown
  - Individual partitions forming the raid should be hidden by default
and/or an option should be given to hide/show individual partitions in
Computer.

of Eclipse without having to run it first. Also, this will allow the
entry to conform with the style of other Applications Menu entries.

My suggestions are these:

Name: Eclipse [IDE|Development|Development Environment]
Tooltip: Develop applications in a variety of different programming languages

Thanks

[Bug 25653] Synchronization with Palm Zire31 not working.

Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/25653

Comment:
Aah, that explains a lot. Indeed /proc/bus/usb is deprecated. The USB
devices are now managed with udev, and thus /dev/bus/usb (which should
be fully compatible) should be used.

Francois-Denis, could you attach the deb-file you've created with dpkg-

packages :)

BTW: control-center 2.14.0 is available, but still contains the bug.

2006-03-14 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/25653

Comment:
Argh, it additionally scans /proc/bus/usb/devices, how ugly.

Thus, the visor_devices_timeout() function needs to be rewritten to
parse sysfs instead to find out about devices; or even better, use
/dev/tty* instead of the raw devices. Too bad that gnome-pilot is not
maintained upstream any more. :/

[Bug 29402] Downloading files of unknown size in Epiphany uses too much CPU time

2006-03-14 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29402

Comment:
I will test this soon (I'm currently booted in to Breezy). I have seen
the problem recently, but I have not tested it with the latest Epiphany
version in Dapper.

When the problem occurs though, the CPU usage goes to ~100% for the
duration of the download even with nothing else running in the
background, and CPU usage drops back down to normal (0-3%) after the
download completes.

Public bug report changed:

I just tested this with the latest Dapper updates, and Epiphany does
still do this.

According to top, during the download epiphany is using ~70% of the CPU
while xorg is using ~24.2%. When idle, these don't even show up on the
list, or stay below a few percent.

[Bug 33087] gedit crashes when restart after update is forced

Public bug report changed:

Comment:
Thanks for the report.

It might be tricky to get a backtrace for this one. Could you run gedit
in a terminal with the following command and reproduce the crash,
please?

gedit ~/gedit_output.txt

If gedit produces any output relating to the crash, hopefully it should
be captured in 'gedit_output.txt' in your home directory. If it is,
please attach the file.

What version of the gedit package do you have installed?

Thanks
