[Bug 33002] Re: logout dialog UI objections

2006-04-21 Thread Tony Yarusso
Now, I will first agree that there should be some work on making icons
match other things, and having them be themable would be great, but it
sounds like a lot of people are on that already. The main thing that
irked me about the dialogue was the sheer size. I mean, it takes up
what, 25% of the total screen area? I find that a bit excessive, and
not what I would expect from a simple dialogue window. If some of the
space between icons were removed, space around the border shrunk down,
and maybe the icons themselves made just a tad smaller if necessary.
Basically, my impression when the window popped up was that it was huge.
So, just some trimming would be great in my opinion.

[Bug 38694] Re: No XChat in Dapper

2006-04-21 Thread Brian Burger
I'm re-opening this, because I'd really like to here from some of the
developers or packagers about leaving XChat or XChat-Gnome out of Dapper.

I've just spent a couple of hours using Gaim in Dapper Beta (LiveCD) and for
basic IRC it has a fairly bad UI, and seems worse than XChat-Gnome would be.

Having all the options menus spread over several windows (three, usually)
isn't very useful; it's difficult to find a basic channel listing, and while
I'm not a great fan of XChat-Gnome, isn't an app that's actually designed for
IRC better than one that tries to do everything?

[Bug 33002] Re: logout dialog UI objections

2006-04-21 Thread Trouilliez vincent
The GNOME upstream solution provides an organized, HIG compliant
way for the user to select between the various ways to end a session.

For the reasons outlined above, I feel that the upstream session dialogs will
provide the most polished experience for users and I urge Ubuntu devs to at
 least reconsider their adoption.

so, i set a root password with sudo passwd and entered that when it prompted
me. this time, it began to work, but immediately crashed the X-server. future
attempts produced the exact same result. this needs to either be fixed, or have

[Bug 40511] location bar cannot manage folders with long name

Public bug reported:

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal

Description:
The new location bar (breadcrumbs) stops working if I enter a folder
with a long name, like

[Bug 39098] Re: thinkpad: volume button weighting

2006-04-21 Thread Matthew East
This is not a bug! Changing the volume down quickly is extremely useful,
because often you want to tell the computer to JUST SHUT UP!! However, changing
the volume up in a hurry is not useful in the same way. We discussed this on
irc and I remember at least 3 or 4 of us all agreeing that this is a feature
rather than a bug, and a couple of those were core developers, so I'm marking
this bug as Rejected for now. Please reopen it if you strongly disagree, and

[Bug 39086] Re: Can't add new address book

2006-04-21 Thread Jerome Jolidon
Seems that we've got a winner: disabling Exchange Operations solves the
problem.

Actually, I've got another problem after this disabling, but it has maybe
nothing to do with this bug... Here is the trick: When I create an address book
without Exchange Operations, it says:
Cannot open this address book. Check that path
~/.evolution/addressbook/local/[EMAIL PROTECTED] exists and that you have
access rights. As this has been translated from french, the english text is
maybe somehow different. Then when I try to add contacts to this address book
or delete if, it's ok, so it's a minor problem.

If anyone has the same, please let us know...

[Bug 40532] Naming of preferences not consistent

2006-04-21 Thread Paul Cooper
Public bug reported:

Affects: control-center gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
1. Plug in a usb audio device (e.g. Plantronics 400 DSP)
2. A message pops up with a link to (Breezy) or a button (Dapper) to 'Open
audio preferences'
3. However in the text it suggests opening System-Preferences-Sound (this is
what the link or button opens)

So the link/button says audio preferences but then that is opened says
Sound - either the link/button needs to be changed to 'Open sound
preferences' or the 'Sound Prefrences' capplet needs to be changed to
'Audio preferences'.

[Bug 40562] totally unusable with busy imap servers

2006-04-21 Thread Andrea Garbarini
Public bug reported:

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Hello, I am accessing my imap mail server through evolution and all I
can say is this program is totally unusable if the server happens to be
busy, the problem seems to be related to timeouts being improperly set
up: quitting the app, opening a mail, whatever... evo will stop
responding and will keep pinging the mail server ad nauseam... there's
been a lot of talk on the forums of late and a lot of users are unable
to use evolution because of this issue. Evo behaves in such an
inpredictable manner that the only way to use it in such a scenario is
force-quitting it all the time, the only workaround i can think of as of
now is place the force-quit button besides evolution's icon. Forgive
this bug report for being a little too generic but I felt I had to
take the problem I'm having to the devs' attention. Best regards, andre

[Bug 40259] Re: unrealistic shadows

2006-04-21 Thread Lapo Calamandrei
These are the original tango folder with different colors and some tweaking
here and there, which are not imported pngs, but pure svgs. Believe me we care
about shadows a lot and had a lot of discussions on the topic, but the current
solution is actually the best possible for the tools we use at the moment,
Jakub is experimenting with cvs inkscape which is starting to support the mask
feature, but it is not that usable atm. I personally don't consider your
solution any better than the current one.
Jakub usually hangs on #tango on freenode if you want his opinion.

[Bug 29809] Re: Window size (mayby placement) is not saved on logoff.

2006-04-21 Thread Luke Schierer
correct, it does. This is something that we in upstream gaim debate fairly
frequently. Saving possition is, or at least should be, the responsibility of
the window manager and/or session manager, not of each application. For this
reason, we have been very tempted to remove the possition saving for the buddy
list entirely.

Still, not saving possition for chats and conversations would not be a bug, but
at best a feature request, as gaim, by design, makes no attempt to do so.

[Bug 39412] Re: Cannot add a serial printer in Dapper

2006-04-21 Thread Bart Hartgers
Okay, I used an editor to just copy the new ui bits into the old
gnome-cups-ui-connection.glade file. I probably should have done that in the
first place. Anyhow, this actually made the patch a little smaller.

The IPP/SMB switch problem is gone, and the dialog box now has the same width
as the original one. It is a little taller, but I need some space for my new
dialog items ;-).

[Bug 40314] Re: Themable logout dialog

2006-04-21 Thread Michael Monreal
Including in the tangerine theme, all nice... but the main problem is that
gnome-session doesn't use themed icons ATM. Is this going to change soon?

Even if it will, including fitting icons in Tangerine is not enough,
gnome-session is still required to install fallback icons (current set or
better yet: generic Tango icons which I could also provide) into hicolor!

So the main question is: will the logout dialog be cahnged to support icon
themes?

[Bug 40565] Re: Rhythmbox 0.9.3.1 crashes at start

2006-04-21 Thread Manuel Martín Salvador
I found the problem when I run with -d option.

[0x8143970] [rb_metadata_load] rb-metadata-gst.c:846 (18:21:48): failed to go
to PAUSED for file:///media/sdb1/backups/images/buttons/usa-firefox.png
libpng error: Not a PNG file
Violación de segmento

And when I do the command file to this file I get this:
/media/sdb1/backups/images/buttons/usa-firefox.png: PNG image data, 110 x 32,
8-bit colormap, non-interlaced

Anyway it was my error. I'm going to select only the music folder to re-explore
at start. Thanks :)

rather than a 'Utilities' category.

[Bug 40586] espresso partitioning defaults to ext2, not ext3

Public bug reported:

Affects: gparted (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When creating a manual partition, the default file type is ext2

This is a bit silly, IMHO, should be ext3 :)

Does work fine if you do an auto-partition.

[Bug 39624] Re: Graphical glitches on Muine/Totem buttons using new Human theme

This is definitely related to the new Human gtk theme, I tried it with
many icon themes and all of them show the same glitches, but only with
Human controls, it doesn't happen with Clearlooks or Glider for example.

[Bug 33002] Re: logout dialog UI objections

2006-04-21 Thread Thilo Six
I also have problems with the logout window.

I have tried that:
People who want to use the upstream dialogs are free to do so,
you just have to change /apps/panel/global/upstream_session
 key to true with gconf-editor

But this works only when clicking on the logout button.
I use a shotcut to logout.

The second and more confusing thing to me is the little save the session box
disappeared on logout window.

I get used to set up my session as i liked it, then loged out and saved it.
How do i do that now?

Here is a quote from the online Help window for Setting Session Preferences:

Automatically save changes to session:
[...]
If you do not select this option, when you
end your session the Logout Confirmation dialog displays a Save current setup
option.

So that Save current setup option is missing.
