I liked it a lot, and I really hope to see it as an alternative GDM theme

Thank you.

It is intended to be like that, try tango-icon-theme if you want a theme with
more green and blue in it.
Are there any particular icons you're thinking of?

2006-04-22 Thread Andreas Nilsson
jimmac suggested these metaphors for the different actions:

I think it is ok to put them in tangerine for now, and then removing them when
they get into tango.

[Bug 40713] Evolution-data-server-1.6 crashes at first launch

2006-04-22 Thread Lionel Dricot
Public bug reported:

Affects: evolution-data-server (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I just dist-upgraded a Breezy computer to Dapper beta.

After a fresh boot, the first time you'll launch Evolution, you will see
an error :

Applications /usr/libexec/evolution-data-server-1.6 has crashed.

Simply hit the close button and you can safely continue. It happens every
boot. (you can also have it without reboot by evolution --force-shutdown and
then starting evolution)

1. Go to http://kartoo.com/ with epiphany and latest flashplugin-nonfree
2. Do a search
3. In the result, click one link, wichever you want
4. Try to edit the URL bar

It seems to happens on lof (all?) of flash website. After following a link in a
flash animation, the URL bar is no more editable. You can no more type in it.

The workaround is to click on one of your bookmark (or homepage) to quit

[Bug 40719] Drafts folder marked as unread even if mails are read

2006-04-22 Thread Lionel Dricot
Public bug reported:

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Since the upgrade from breezy to Dapper, if the draft folder contains
any mail, it will be in bold with the number of mails as they were
unread.

I've observed that the user will try to mark the mail as read/unread and
other things to get rid of the unread state of the draft folder.

I believe this is a feature: the reason is that you don't forget that

looking, but it is useful!

2006-04-22 Thread Lionel Dricot
I wasn't sure about it.

Sadly, it seems perceived as a bug by users (who tried to solve the bug of a
bold folder in the list altought all mails are read)

Of course, it's not critical and we can say to users : it's not a bug, it's a
feature ! ;-)

[Bug 40732] totem-gstreamer does not support 5.1 surround sound

2006-04-22 Thread Johann Gile
Public bug reported:

Affects: totem totem-gstreamer (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Steps to reproduce the problem:

Get a file with 5.1 surround sound. I'm using the Dolby City trailer
which comes as MPEG 2 with AC-3 audio equivalent to a DVD as well a
surround ogg testing file. Both can be downloaded free of charge from
http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/media/large/dolby.vob and http://www-
personal.usyd.edu.au/%7Egmonro/download/cid_ind.ogg .

Make sure your 5.1 speaker set is correctly plugged in, a 5.1 switch is active
and volume is set to a sane value.
Activate the Gnome Mixer Applet.
Go to Edit-Preferences and make sure Surround, Surround Jack Mode, LFE, and
Channel Mode are active.
Go to Playback, set Master, PCM, Surround, Center, and LFE to 100%, then go to
Options choose Surround jack mode according to your setup and set Channel Mode
to 6ch.
Open a console and execute speaker-test -c 6 -D plug:surround51, if
everything is set up correctly you should be able hear static noise from all 6
speakers.

Use synaptic or apt-get to install these additional packages for the test, make
sure universe/multiverse are enabled:
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly (for MPEG 2/AC-3 support)
xine-ui
libxine-extracodecs (for MPEG 2/AC-3 support)
mplayer

Start totem, go to Edit-Preferences-Audio, set Audio output type to
5.1-channel.
Open the Ogg test file and observe that you will not get correct surround
output.
Open the Dolby test file and observe that you will only get stereo output.

Start xine, right click on th ui and select Settings-Setup-GUI, set
Configuration experience level to Master of the known universe, click Apply,
select Audio, set Speaker arrangement to Surround 5.1, then click Apply.
Open the Ogg test file and notice you are getting no correct surround sound.
Open the Dolby test file and notice you are getting correct 5.1 surround sound
from all 6 speakers.

Start mplayer with gmplayer -channels 6 from a console.
Open the Ogg test file and notice you are getting correct 5.1 surround sound
from all 6 speakers.
Open the Dolby test file and notice you are getting correct 5.1 surround sound
from all 6 speakers.

Start vlc.
Open the Ogg test file and observe that you will only get stereo output.
Open the Dolby test file and observe that you will only get stereo output.

Use synaptic or apt-get to install the totem-xine package in order to
get the xine backend for totem, totem-gstreamer will be deinstalled
automatically.

Start totem, go to Edit-Preferences-Audio, set Audio output type to
5.1-channel.
Open the Ogg test file and observe that you will not get correct surround
output.
Open the Dolby file and observe that you will now also get correct 5.1 sorround
sound with totem.

Conclusions:

totem-gstreamer does neither play Ogg surround nor AC-3 surround sound
correctly.
totem-xine does play AC-3 surround but not Ogg surround sound correctly.
xine plays AC-3 surround but not Ogg surround sound correctly.
mplayer plays AC-3 surround sound as well as Ogg surround sound correctly.
vlc does neither play Ogg surround nor AC-3 surround sound correctly.

totem-gstreamer is the default media player and should support 5.1
surround sound.

Guilty parties involved:

A fresh install of the Ubuntu Dapper Beta from 04/20/2006, no
modification except the ones described here.

[Bug 40719] Re: Drafts folder marked as unread even if mails are read

2006-04-22 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Lionel, the useful information for the draft folder is probably that you
still have some mails you are on working on to that box, having a read
count doesn't really makes sense for it. Now it could perhaps use an
another visual indicator (color or something) to make it different from
an unread count, but I'm not sure that's worth forwarding it since
upstream already doesn't cope with the load of bugs and wishlists they
get. I'm tempted to just reject it as NOTABUG but marking it Needs
Info for now. Let me know if you have some good idea on how it should
be or if we should just assume that users have to get used at the
feature with a detail anyway

[Bug 40274] Re: Feature wish: Adjust volume with mouse scroll wheel

2006-04-22 Thread felix.rommel
Flight 5 + updates 2006-04-20:

OK - bug is fixed. I'm able to change volume with my mouse wheel, too.

But the volume slider isn't synced with gnome-volume-applet. If I scroll down
above Rhythmbox volume button, it shows a muted speaker although I can still
hear sound.

And the volume change lags a little behind. If I move the slider volume changes
with a little delay.

It would be nice if Rhythmbox volume slider would be synced with
gnome-volume-applet.

[Bug 38431] Re: Gnome clipboard manager ?

2006-04-22 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for your bug. I'm rejecting it since it has nothing to do with
gnome-panel and that's not a bug. If you want to open a specification on
launchpad or the wiki about that you are welcome

Some notes about that though:
- gnome-settings-daemon has a clipboard manager
- apps have to use it, you can try with gedit by example. Open it, type some
text, use Ctrl-C, close gedit, use Ctrl-V to some other application or reopen
gedit and hit ctrl-V the text is copied
- a clipboard applet similar to klipper would be nice but that's a request for
a new software, not a bug

The select, middle click copy might not use the clipboard though as explained by
the bug Daniel pointed that's the way xorg clipboard management is done

I would suggest to mark the number of mails in the folder as it is now but

Bold is the metaphor for unread, IMHO.

So, simply removing bold would be perfect.

the right place and talk to the right people to get something fixed

[Bug 40719] Re: Drafts folder marked as unread even if mails are read

Bold is the metaphor for unread, IMHO.

I disagree with you, it's the metaphor for something is waiting on you or
you have some work to do with it rather but let's wait for upstream opinion

[Bug 39057] Re: Can't view all album songs when an artist is selected

2006-04-22 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Thanks for the reply. Sorry about the ambiguous doesn't work in the original
report.

The select album option works, but doesn't move the artist selection to all
artists, so on compilation albums you don't get the whole album.

The upstream bug does look relevant, although it would probably be easier just
to move the artist selection to all artists when the user selects select
album.

By the way, the Finnish translation of select album is more like browse
album, which gives a stronger impression that you'll get _all_ the songs on
that album, not only those by the currently selected artists. Select album
doesn't give quite as strong an impression.

Moving the artist selection to all artists and renaming the rightclick action
to browse album might be a good fix, although it'll remove the functionality
to browse only the current artist's songs on that album. The smart VA handling
would be good here.

Ok, this is likely to be a bug in the VIA video driver. If you edit

Driver via

Driver vesa

does X start? If so, it's certainly a buggy driver.

[Bug 40773] Nautilus crashes when certain .swf files are navigated to

2006-04-22 Thread Melissa Draper
Public bug reported:

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
nautilus version: Nautilus 2.14.1
ubuntu version: Dapper (up to date as of Apr 23)

Nautilus crashes when certain .swf files are navigated to. Can be replicated
and occurs every time. Seems to have something to do with thumbnailing, since
some .swf files hang on a icon of a clock on a blank sheet of paper. I can
provide copies of a 'good' .swf and a 'bad' .swf

Steps to replicate:
-open nautilus
-navigate to a directory that contains .swf
-may need to perform some action within the directory (eg. click a file)
-watch nautilus crash

[Bug 40739] gdm crashes when clicking on username label

2006-04-22 Thread zanonmark
Public bug reported:

Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When you click on the Username or password label in GDM, X crashes
(and then tries to reload itself, sometimes failing and loading another
login manager). This does not happen in Ubuntu 5.10.

Thanks,

[Bug 40784] Keybord shortcuts make unusable key used in combination

2006-04-22 Thread Paulo Cesar Ferreira
Public bug reported:

Affects: control-center (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When I set a keyboard shortcut for multimedia actions, like play music
or play next music, with a shortcut like CTRL-X, X key get's unusable.

I tryed to use these keys to simulate the funcionality of xmms in
banshee. When I press CTRL-X it was supposed to play or pause music
playback, but after configuring gnome-keybinding-properties, if I press
only X, without CTRL, it play/pause the music.

This is very bad because it makes unusable the key used in key
combination.

I'm using gnome-control-center 2.14.1-0ubuntu2, with Ubuntu Dapper.

And I can't see a workaround for this.

[Bug 40785] copy and past a task in calendar view doesn't retain the original calendar of the task

2006-04-22 Thread Ariel Vardi
Public bug reported:

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
On dapper up-to-date

Steps to reproduce:
1) open the calendar view in evolution
2) make sure you have several calendars (create new calendar if not the case)
3) create a task in a different calendar than the default one.
4) copy/cut and paste this task from its original place to another
5) notice the pasted task is not in its original calendar but in the default
one.

Expected result:
Copy and pasting a task should copy all the properties of the original task,

[Bug 38955] Re: blank location in database entry causes abort

2006-04-22 Thread Phillip Calvin
I'm using Ubuntu 6.06.

The circumstances were somewhat rare, but yes, a blank location can be written
during normal use. I added a file and Rhythmbox crashed while adding the file,
presumably part-way through, hence the missing location element.

However, since Rhythmbox will not start at all until the database is fixed, I'd
say patch it -- newer users that don't know where to look or what to change
could be very bewildered.

If I can reproduce the situation in which Rhythmbox writes the blank location,
I will open a bug for that.

2006-04-22 Thread John Doe
Public bug reported:

   Severity: Normal

 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I am using the Ubuntu 6.06 Beta Live CD. On it, I went to System,
then Administration, then Printing. I, then, double-clicked New
Printer. On Step 1 of the Add a printer dialog (Printer
Connection), I chose Local Printer for the printer type and Use
detected printer and selected my printer model which is a Canon S600.
Then, I clicked the Forward button. On Step 2 of the Add a printer

S600, driver bj8pa06n.upp, and then I clicked the Apply button.
My printer never shows up in the Printers window, even after waiting

[Bug 39821] Re: [Dapper] Minor rendering issue on path buttons

2006-04-22 Thread Dave Gilbert
Hi,
  1) Hmm it doesn't seem to happen with other themes; I've never setup my own
theme, and I think it is the theme that has been on the machine since Hoary.
However when I went to choose theme it called this one 'custom theme' - I've
saved it and included the theme file as an attachment.
  2) The videocard is an ATI Radeon 7200; default Ubuntu drivers (no closed
source stuff), running at 1600x1200.
  3) I don't think I've seen it on other apps - but while I was fiddling
changing the theme I thought I managed to get it onto one of its buttons; but
certainly I haven't noticed it on anything else repeatedly.

Description:
Hello!

When setting some keyboard shortcuts (e.g. CTRLALTn for next track under
Sound) the letter (in this case n) will not get written when writing
commands in Terminal, text in OpenOffice, URL in Opera etc etc.
Some shortcuts act perfect (e.g. CTRLALTg for opening a Terminal). I
noticed the problem under Sound- previous, next and play/pause)

Procedure:
1. System - Brukervalg (norwegian for User Settings) - Tastatursnarveier

2. Sound
3. Setting previous and next track, play/pause
4. Open a Gnome Terminal
5. Try writing the letters used by the shortcuts
