[Bug 44756] Calculator wont turn on "Thousands Separator".

2006-05-14 Thread Martin Sondergaard
Public bug reported:

The calculator, Gcalctool 5.6.31, has a minor bug.
The menu option "View, Show Thousands Separator", often doesn't work.

Its a bug in toggling this option on and off. As well as often failing
to turn this mode on, it also can fail to turn this mode off. If I use
the keyboard shortcut, ^K, this also fails to work.

No, on second thoughts, perhaps its not a bug, it just looks like one.
It just doesn't behave the way I expected it to. I've had a further
look at this, and now I'm not sure if its a bug, or just unexpected
behaviour.

If I enter a number, then select the option to Show Thousands Seperator,
it doesn't change how the existing number is displayed. So I thought
that the "Show Thousands Separator" mode was not working.

But if I press the "=" key then it correctly shows commas in the number.

This may not count as a bug. But I had difficulty turning on this mode,
because I saw that the existing number had not changed, (commas were not
added to it), so I thought it was not working.

I realise that when the user enters a number, the program can't add
commas yet, because it doesn't know the user had finished entering the
number until he presses "=" or some other operator key.

But when I selected the option to "Show Thousands Separator", I expected
the number currently being displayed by the calculator to change, at
once. Perhaps it should be changed to do so.

Your comments are welcome on this. Should the calculator have this
small change made to it?

Oops sorry, I misinterpreted the terminology... I thought "rejected"
meant "We don't want to fix it and/or we deny the problem", and "Fix
released" meant, well, "problem solved".

Not very easy for non-developers to know what the terminolgy exactly
means and how to use it. I guess it's safer to let the devs change the
status for me.. less mistakes ;-)

[Bug 36647] Re: dnd to a directory owned by an another user should default to copy (fix dnd to setgid shared directory by example)

2006-05-14 Thread Matthew Wright
I have just tested with Flight 7 and when I drag and drop to a g+s
directory it now defaults as a copy which is a great solution

However

If I do a cut and paste the file goes from
/home/me/touchedfile me.me **Cut**

*paste*
ls /shared/touchedfile me.me

when it should ideally be me.shared
as /shared is chmod g+s

Can this be fixed please, and I really appreciate the work done that has
made the environment a hell of a lot easier for end users.

Regards,

Mat

[Bug 44770] HAL bootup command is wrong (falls back to -h)

2006-05-14 Thread Nirvana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

When my Kubuntu/Ubuntu loads up, and the Usplash screen starts loading
processes, I noticed after a dist-upgrade and the removal of Klaptop for
Kpowersave (which doesn't work either because of this HAL problem), HAL
no longer loads properly (My guess is one of the switches is wrong
because it falls back to what I believe is the --help screen. When I
start "/usr/sbin/hald start" manually it runs (shows up in Ksysguard,
actually, two show up, one is 12K and the other bigger and actually
shows the command that I run to start hal (/usr/sbin/hal)). It runs for
about 5-10 minutes (I'm guessing, not actually counting) then it
disappears from ksysguard, and I'm back to the normal, typeable terminal
where I chose to "/usr/sbin/hald restart" and it showed up in ksysguard
for another 10 mins then it went. Then I did "/usr/sbin/hald stop" and
it's now showing up in ksysguard again. Oh wait, it just stopped (not
showing up anymore). Any suggestions? I use synaptic to reinstall hal,
libhal1, and still it's broken. Any more info you need? I made a thread
on UbuntuForums (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=176308) but no
one likes me there I guess, theres only 10 views.

[Bug 32643] Re: [Bug 32643] Re: unmounting of removable drives should show a progress dialog

2006-05-14 Thread John Dong
Windows recognizes the difference between a USB mass storage device that's a
smaller removable device (i.e. flash drive) vs a larger device (i.e.
external hard drive). It sets sync on smaller devices and async on larger
devices. I feel we should do the same, also.

I would rather lose some of my life on a thumb drive rather than having to
remember to sync it periodically to avoid losing data in case of a system
lockup/crash/poweroff.

Why should we have a different way to handle large removable devices
than we do internal static drives? The scenario you show would also
happen to a normal disk drive, because they are async by default
(however, things like journaling help this a lot).

I don't think this scenario should dictate the resolution of this
problem.

Thanks Daniel ! :-)
I did that, and no problem anymore ! :o)
I tried it with both totem-gst and totem-xine, and both start and play just
fine even if rhytmbox is already playing a song.

What I don't understand, is that I did check in System->Preferences-
Sound, and the "default soundcard" option at the bottom of the dialog,
was properly set to 'nForce' (the on-board sound chip). So maybe the
sound preference dialogue has a bug and fails to select the selected
sound device ??

You tell me... in the meantime, I am marking the present bug as "fixed"

why do we need this perceieved speed up? if sync causing it to be

only faster if you make multiple changes to the same files in a

[Bug 44728] Re: Gaim doesn't include SILC support

2006-05-14 Thread Luke Schierer
there have been two silc toolkit packages for debian. I do not know
which has made it into ubuntu.

However, in current debian (again, I'm unsure of ubuntu), the only silc package
is libsilc-1.0-2 for which I see the following:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/doc/gaim/gaim.my$ dpkg -L libsilc-1.0-2
/.
/usr
/usr/share
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/libsilc-1.0-2
/usr/share/doc/libsilc-1.0-2/copyright
/usr/share/doc/libsilc-1.0-2/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/libsilc-1.0-2/changelog.gz
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/doc/gaim/gaim.my$

It thus contains nothing except a changelog and a copyright. To this the
-dev package adds several READMEs, a TODO, and a credits file.

log out of GNOME and back in. Your audio should work properly hence-

[Bug 44764] Conflicting Keyboard Shortcuts with Inkscape

By default, Inkscape uses the keyboard combination Alt+Mouseclick.
Metacity also, by defualt, uses alt+mouseclick for move window. These

It looks like there are 2 solutions to this problem:
1) Change the default conflicting keyboard shortcut in Inkscape, and change

[Bug 40473] Re: Wacom support almost there... add some udev magic?

2006-05-14 Thread Neil Woolford
I'd not worry too much about serial Wacoms; I've got one, but every
other one I've ever seen (apart from years ago) uses USB. And I kind of
don't expect the same level of magic for serial as USB if I'm honest;
USB is meant for hotplugging and multiple devices, whereas serial plugs
have little screw lugs to fix them in place and are always round the
back of the box, covered in dust and cat hairs ;)

[Bug 39050] Re: Totem crashes on startup.

2006-05-14 Thread Scott Robinson
Yes, I still have the issue and with help from the gstreamer guys I
tracked it down.

Essentially, on a bunch of Xorg drivers, allocating a XVideo surface
larger than the available memory will return a BadAlloc. gstreamer
doesn't handle this, and therefore the crash.

Some developers in IRC noted it was a bug on their side, but I haven't
had time to report it. However, it can be demonstrated easily with the
following pipeline:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ file leaftag-gimmie.avi
leaftag-gimmie.avi: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 1024 x 768, 25.00 fps,

[Bug 44744] Places>Removable Media has got no icon

2006-05-14 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

(Note: I was not sure whether I should report this to nautilus instead)

On the GNOME main menu, when going to Places>Removable Media, where the
list of removable volumes is shown, there is no icon next to "Removable
Media".

Since all other entries in the GNOME menu have icons next to the text, I
think it would make sense for the Places>Removable Media entry to be
consistent with the other menus.

[Bug 24937] Re: please improve the bootsplash artwork

2006-05-14 Thread Sander van Loon
I recently (April 2006 or May 2006) posted a message about this issue to
the ubuntu-devel mailing list, and I was told that it's not possible to
use a high resolution framebuffer because that would break compatibility
with certain older hardware. Too bad, but we can probably manually
install Upower - http://nanofreesoft.org/ - as a solution when that
becomes available for Dapper.

[Bug 35423] Re: System clock reverts to GMT at boot

2006-05-14 Thread Sander van Loon
I was about to report a bug about the time going haywire as well, but I
*think* the problem described in this bugreport is identical to my
problem.

Previous releases of Ubuntu didn't have the Ubiquity Live CD installer.
Those installers used to ask me a question about whether the time was
set to local time or GMT (if I recall correctly). My most recent Ubuntu
install was done with a recent Ubuntu Flight of Dapper, with the
Ubiquity Live CD installer. The Ubiquity installer does not ask the
question.

My timezone is set to Europe/Amsterdam, my time zone is GMT + 02:00
(http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/europe/european-union/the-
netherlands/time.htm). However, my clock is displaying GMT + 04:00.
Maybe Ubuntu thinks my time zone is GMT, and adds another 02:00 to it
for some reason? That's my suspicion, I have no idea.

My Windows XP install - I have a dual boot - is also affected, and is
displaying the incorrect time as well.

[Bug 11753] Re: Arabic support severely broken

2006-05-14 Thread منذر طه
First, the bug is also available in ubuntu but with different fonts. e.g
in gedit change the font to KacstOne and you see the same bug.

Second, yes this happens with all the fonts from ttf-arabeyes package
which is in main repository, e.g: ae_AlMohanad

Third, font handling shouldn't be restricted to main repository fonts
only. I can understand that universe packages are not officially
supported but for fonts ubuntu should work with all the fonts as far as
those fonts work in other linux distributions and other operating
systems. Otherwise, a rumor would spread that arabs are not considered
"human beings" here. Just kidding ;)

[Bug 44715] [Dapper] Adder plugin doesn't work

2006-05-14 Thread Sami Haahtinen

[Bug 42187] Re: Debconf asks to choose from one option

2006-05-14 Thread Gary Coady
The GNOME frontend shows questions even when there's only one, because
Debconf::Element::Gnome::Select inherits first from
Debconf::Element::Gnome, and then from Debconf::Element::Select - the
second one has the correct definition of visible().

However, Debconf::Element::Gnome inherits from Debconf::Element, which
has a basic 'show everything' definition of visible(), so this is used
instead.

[Bug 11753] Re: Arabic support severely broken

2006-05-14 Thread Daniel Holbach
I have to reassign the bug to the Kubuntu team - see attached screenshot
for gedit with 3 dad characters. Furthermore, I was not able to find the

[Bug 44339] Re: Regression in usplash artwork

2006-05-14 Thread Athurva Gore
The minimalistic theme looks amazing. I think that should be the
default as well, maybe with a message saying "Press CTRL-ALT-F# to see
details" or something like that.

If not that, the old one should be brought back; the new one looks
terrible IMO.

There's a poll in the forums about it now as well, and the majority of people
that have voted so far want the old one back.
