Do you have some smb shares mounted in fstab?

Otherwise it could be this bug:

[Bug 48955] gnome-volume-control cannot distingusih between capture and output bass/trebel control

2006-06-08 Thread Andrew Pilley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

Hey,

I've noticed this bug in kde in the past, but only recently started
using ubuntu (and thus, gnome).

Basically, I've got an Audigy 1 ES:
$ amixer info
Card default 'Audigy'/'Audigy 1 ES [SB0160] (rev.3, serial:0x521102) at 0xb880,
irq 66'
  Mixer name: 'SigmaTel STAC9721,23'
  Components: 'AC97a:83847609'
  Controls : 199
  Simple ctrls : 33
using alsa for the drivers.
In recent 2.6 kernels, the alsa drivers provide separate, but similarly named,
controls for the capture and output bass control, trebel control, and the tone
switch.

Unfortunately, gnome-volume-control in the gnome-media package can't
distinguish between the capture and output versions of this control, so you get
multiple indistinguishable entries in the preferences dialog.
Additionally, since the controls are indistinguishable, it only adds the first
one to the slider/switch views, and capture seems to come 'first' in most
cases. This means that one cannot reliably modify the tone controls using
gnome-volume-control.

This is really an upstream issue, and it's hardly a major one, but it is
mildly irritating, particularly since i've already helped one audio tool
fix it once. :)

Basically, the controls really need a flag saying whether they're for
capture or output (where there's multiples) for clarity as far as the
user's concerned and the ability to remember which is which, so it can
control them properly.

Thanks
Andrew

[Bug 48959] Can't run two GNOME sessions in the same machine on two X servers

2006-06-08 Thread Patrice KARATCHENTZEFF
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

Run two X servers on the same machine by adding the following line in
the gdm.conf:

[servers]
0=Standard
1=Standard

Run first session GNOME in the VT7 (by default) and try to run on the
VT8 an other GNOME session (with an *other* user than on VT7).

You have strange behaviour from that. The main error you can extract is
the approximative error message:

gnome-panel already running: can't run an other one

If I check, the only gnome-panel program running is the one of the user
of the VT7 session.

I was able to run this config (two X servers with two GNOME sessions
with two different users) in the previous Ubuntu version (breezy).

Current version: Dapper. Upgrade from 5.10 and 5.04).

[Bug 48665] Cannot drag and drop to a window listed on stacked taskbar entry

2006-06-08 Thread agro1986
Public bug reported:

When dragging an item (for example a selection on gedit) and then
hovering a taskbar entry, the corresponding window will be shown.
Obviously this is done so that the user can drop the item into the
window.

However, when some taskbar entries are stacked (for example 5 GIMP
windows), dragging something and then hovering the stack label on the
taskbar will not trigger anything.

I propose that hovering the mouse on a taskbar stack entry while
dragging an item should list all windows in the stack. The user can then
hover on a list entry to make the corresponding window appear (and then
finally drop the item into the window).

Thanks Danny. After changing from the default in Alt/Win keys to a
different setting also marked default - not to be confused with the
third setting marked default) I can now set mod4+l to lock my screen.

Like Demon, this doesn't actually work. Thankfully the upstream bug
explains it.

There are two bugs here:
- A default that is different to what we expected in the keyboard defaults; and
- Gnome not carrying out some functions set using the Windows key.

[Bug 48977] When using switch-user feature screen not locked on hibernate

2006-06-08 Thread C-JiPH
Public bug reported:

To produce:

1. Login to a gnome session [Session 1]
2. Switch users from the logout dialog
3. Login to another gnome session [Session 2]
4. Hibernate (or close laptop lid etc.)
5. Unhibernate

After unhibernating you will be presented with the X server for [Session
2] which will have a screensaver lock enabled. However if you switch to

[Bug 36581] Re: gam_server consumes lots of cpu time

2006-06-08 Thread Rocco Stanzione
I now know why this is happening, at least to me. All my music is on a
remote samba share, mounted under /mnt. AmaroK monitors the directory
for changes using gamin. Gamin expects things under /mnt to be
temporarily mounted, so instead of the MUCH more efficient kernel
dnotify method of watching for updates, it actually polls all the files
in the mounted directory every second. In my case, it probably can't
even list all the files in one second, so it's constantly working as
hard as it can, in userspace, to do its thing. I'm going to request
(upstream) a compile-time option to specify the directory or directories
to poll without dnotify, so we can package it as /media, where we expect
our temporary mounts to be (the gamin author, I think, is a redhat guy,
and expects them under /mnt). Changing to needs info because I wonder
how many of the rest of you have a similar setup (directories with lots
of files under /mnt) that would allow us to close this bug if we get the
new compile-time option and a new package for it.

During the installation of Dapper I created 2 new partitions of which
one should have been formated as XFS and the other as ext2. The

again once my system is reconfigured. Thanks for the tip with
nautilus-dbg; will get back to this likely on the weekend.

[Bug 49039] Cannot click back/forward buttons without pointer leaving button

2006-06-08 Thread Brian Erickson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

This is a UI issue.

The buttons on the install can't be clicked unless you move the mouse
off of the button and then back on.

Repeat Steps:
- Boot from the Ubuntu 6.06 desktop i386 cd.
- Run install from the desktop.
- On the language screen, use the mouse to click the forward button, don't
move the mouse pointer after clicking.
- The screen will change to the location / time zone screen, wait for the
screen to come up completely and the forward button to enable.
- Without taking the mouse pointer off of the forward button, try to click it.
The click isn't recognized.
- Move the mouse pointer back away from the forward button, then back onto the
button and click. This click will be accepted.

The behavior applies to both the forward and back button and on the
other pages of the install.

[Bug 44101] Re: [Dapper] gnome-sound-properties always defaults to first card

2006-06-08 Thread Neilen Marais
I have a similar problem with up to date Dapper. I have two sound cards
(snd_via82xx onboard and snd_ens1371 PCI). gnome-sound-properties shows
both cards, and let's me select both. However it does not activate the
selection, and if I run it again, it's back to the first card. Example

1) run gnome-sound-properties

The first sound card is selected (which one this seems to shuffle around
when booting)

2) Select the second card

3) Close gnome-sound-properties

Sound still plays out of the first sound card

4) run gnome-properties again

The first card is shown as selected

For some reason the re-install routine described above only worked for a
few days then started hanging again. I noticed that it only hangs with

the panel that is causing the trouble. Will investigate further.
