It's a bit hard to increase the max open files limit as an ordinary user
when the default hard limit is 1024.
ulimit/limit is builtin in the shell, so you have to check the man page
of the shell.

I use a modified dvorak keyboard (as a non-english speaker) to avoid keyboard
switching (with xmodmap). My password uses the same keys on both that and the
default dvorak layout, which is the system default.

I have seen this as well. However, it is problematic to generate a
backtrace from at-spi-registryd, as it drops to T state (in ps aux)
whenever you attach to it using either gdb or strace, and kill -CONT'ing
it does not help, and it actually makes Gnome in general not respond.

I had the same problem with the HP Fax showing, only I have an Deskjet
840C. I pointed my web browser to 127.0.0.1:631 (the CUPS interface) and

I can confirm it too in edgy. If I login just after it is possible all
goes ok. But if I wait for some time I get such problem. On dapper I had
this problem too.

2hansen, your report seems to be really different from the one of the
original poster. So I recommend you to start a new bug report.
Do not worry about the output of cupstestppd, its result is PASS and

i use xcompmgr under gnome without any problems, but if try to logout
(menu: system-logout), the screen freezes. No more action is possible,
excepted kill xserver with ctrl+alt+backspace. The bug exists in gnome

Has anyone had this on a clean Edgy install? I had this when I upgraded
from Dapper, but now I've done a clean Edgy install, and the problem
disappeared. So I think it may be a problem with upgrading.

Yes, only users who are inside the admin group may change the network
settings this way. I guess this is a nice feature for people who migrate
from windows, but it scares the heck of of me... ;)
BTW: The same thing affects users-admin an all other tools out of gnome-
system-tools
