[Bug 70705] Totem doesn't use .asx playlists correctly

2006-11-07 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Dutch public radio is available online, using some kind of windows audio
stream. Usually, this works correctly in Totem, but today it didn't.

Nothing has changed in the asx files, but one of the listed servers
seems to be down. Instead of failing over to the next server, totem pops
up an error claiming Connection refused (which is wrong, it's 500:
Internal server error).

If I use the Windows mediaplayer, or play the alternative directly, it
works correctly.

[Bug 70706] ASX parsing isn't very robust

2006-11-07 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

The public radio stations in The Netherlands are streamed as Windows
Audio streams. There's only one problem: the ASX files are not quite
valid XML (''-signs aren't escaped).

This breaks Totem's playing of URLs with ''s in them.. which sucks :)

[Bug 70724] gedit should be able to spellcheck latex documents

2006-11-07 Thread Kim Nguyễn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

It seems that gedit spellcheker does'nt know how to skip latex commands while
the underlying tools (ispell, aspell) can.
This is rather annoying as gedit is the default (and suposedly unique) editor
used by a new user. It should provide that feature. This could also be valuable
for html or xml documents in general where tags could be skipped by the

[Bug 70727] Moving shortcuts - disappear icons

2006-11-07 Thread Pawel
Public bug reported:

In short:
1. Creating shortcut on Desktop, moving them by drag'n'drop to gnome-panel and
delate shortcut on desktop cause that that shortcut on panel is disappeaer
after next login.

2. Moving shortcuts between 2 panels via drag 'n'drop method cause that
this shortcut disappear (no icon, no other informations, only gnome-
foot-qestion is showing).

More informations about this bug:
When you click right button on shortcut and choose move then you can simply
move this icon e.g. to other panel without any problems.
But when you catch this icon by drag'n'drop method - you can move this shortcut
to other panel, but when you drop - then instead of default icon there will be
gnome foot icon (no shortcut).

There is also one thing: when you try to move one shortcut form desktop to one
panel and after that move it to another panel - then it works...but once again
move to another panel shows the same problem.

Pawel

[Bug 61381] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashes at login

2006-11-07 Thread kaptengu
I have the same problem. It takes 5 minutes to login. During login I see
a white box in the top left corner, after awhile it displays the error
message:

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correctly.

The last error message was:

Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application
did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply,
the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log
in.

When I manually start gnome-settings-daemon I get:

Rrdb: *Label.background on line 243 overrides entry on line 170
xrdb: *Text.background on line 249 overrides entry on line 211
xrdb: *Label.foreground on line 255 overrides entry on line 171
xrdb: *Text.foreground on line 261 overrides entry on line 212

The problem started after updating to Edgy. I am on a IBM X41.

I would like to assist with more information if someone could guide me.

[Bug 60277] Re: Windows Network entries use a text icon instead of a computer one

2006-11-07 Thread Panagiotis Issaris
I tried the posted patch and I rebuild the gnome-
vfs2_2.16.1-0ubuntu2.dsc package. The result now is that I do not see
the blank icons anymore, but I still cannot really use the network. Only
two hosts show up, while there really are many hosts... Initially I
thought the blank icons (the hosts which are not recognized/accessible)
just were not visible anymore, but after thinking it through, that can't
be the case. Without the above patch applied, clicking refresh showed
different hosts being accessible on every new click. With the patch
applied, clicking refresh changes nothing. The same two hosts appear,
with the rest of the network being unaccessible.

2006-11-07 Thread Alex Sutcliffe
Hi,

I've got one of these too and I've got a couple of questions about it.

1. On my Ubuntu system, there's already an entry in 10-usb-music-
players.fdi commented !-- Foston 256MB -- for this
vendor_id/product_id combo while my device is 512MB. Are the
vendor_id/product_id combinations meant to be unique?

1. Mine can only play songs if they are in the root directory or one dir
down. Should any entry in the fdi specify this through the
portable_audio_player.folder_depth key?

[Bug 70490] Re: Some SystemAdministration menu entries no longer works

2006-11-07 Thread Jonh Wendell
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 59946 ***

The problem is: In warty there was not an admin group. In edgy, many
tools require that group exists.

This bug report is duplicate of bug 59946. If you wish, read that bug
report and you'll understand more about this issue.

[Bug 70760] system crashes when totem plays a file

2006-11-07 Thread Tim Cashin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

My system completely freezes when totem plays a file.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Type Alt-F2
2. enter totem '/usr/share/example-content/ubuntu Sax.ogg'
3. click run

A second or two of sound output is heard and then the system freezes.

Note the crash will also occur when initiating file playback with any
other method (such as double-clicking in nautilus, or open from within
totem).

I have tried other ogg files with the same result but have not tested
any other file format.

Usually the system just appears frozen and no mouse or keyboard input is
recognized. But on a couple occasions the system rebooted and once it
shutdown.

My system:
Dell D620 laptop running edgy and totem 2.16.2

lspci -vv and system trace output to be attached.

[Bug 70690] Re: webdavs opens firefox in nautilus

2006-11-07 Thread greenhunter

davs://192.168.3.1/(w/o foldername) [enter]
https://192.168.3.1/(w/o foldername) [enter]

this opens mostly firefox or gives me an error message can't find ...

or

connect to new server: . webdavs/ip/name/...

I'm using ubuntu 6.10-386.

Btw: Nautilus can't connect to my vsftp server, too. Firefox with

Yep, it's still there on Edgy. I don't know what's so hard about fixing this
bug, I mean this is low hanging fruit after all and should take about ten
minutes to fix.
FWIW, I'm attaching the dia.desktop file I made. Just drop it in
/usr/share/applications until this bug gets fixed.

Thank you for your bug report.

Can you run the program from a konsole/terminal and post the output?

Did you notice the python freeze in other applications too (i.e.

What kind of computer do you have and which versuion of ubuntu do you

[Bug 69894] Re: gnome-volume control crashes (preferences)

2006-11-07 Thread R Volgers
Hi, sorry for the late reply. Luckily, this doesn't happen every time I go to
prefs. In fact I haven't been able to reproduce it since.
My alsa config is now fixed after deleting some (trivial, or so I thought)
custom config files left over from dapper (/etc/asound.conf and .asoundrc).
Symptoms were all kinds of strange behaviour, esp. relating to multi-channel
output (stuttering, refusing to play, non-working volume controls etc.).

[Bug 70779] volume-slide controls wrong channel

2006-11-07 Thread ubunturox
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

hi,

my volume-control-slide changes the volume on the wrong channel on my
laptop Dell Inspiron 9200.

This is my soundcard:

Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM
(ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 01)

The problem seems to be that the notebook has 4 speakers - 2 for high and 2 for
low frequencies.
The Master-slide in gnome-valume-control changes the 2 speakers for the high
frequencies. The low frequencies are changed by the Master-Mono-slide.

So if I want to change the volume I always have to change both slides or
use the PCM-slide.

Is there a way to define that the slide in the gnome-panel should map to
the PCM-channel?

Is using the PCM-slide the intended way to use my soundcard or is the
real master-slide not detected?

thanx.

[Bug 69894] Re: gnome-volume control crashes (preferences)

2006-11-07 Thread R Volgers
Ah, just to clarify, the custom changes I had made to my config files
were an extra pcm to duplicate stereo to 5.1 in my .asoundrc and some
code in asound.conf that made sure the correct sound card was used IIRC
(I have onboard audio and a separate card). I no longer have the old
asound.conf unfortunately.

[Bug 70786] Username field contains nonsensical tooltip

[Bug 70798] Randomly incomplete renaming of categories

2006-11-07 Thread Milka Jinka
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu Edgy (upgraded from Dapper, but it was a Kubuntu), with
French language :

- I launch the menu editor Alacarte from the System menu
- I right-click on a category (eg: Games), then Properties to edit its name
- I delete the existing name and write a new one (eg: Entertainment). As i
type, on the background, the name seems to be edited properly.
- When I click on Close to accept the modification, the category's new name
appears randomly half-edited. Sometimes (rarely) the editing goes well,
sometimes I end up with Ent, or Enterta, and I have to edit the name again,
and the same bug occurs repeatedly : the modifications I bring to the name are
only saved few letters at a time.

This bug doesn't occur with the apps' menu entries.
I am the owner of the .local directory and all the files inside it, so it can't
be the problem.

By launching Alacarte in a terminal, it printed the following message
several times - precisely I get a copy of this message for each letter
in the category's new name :

[Bug 66239] Re: Patch to add HAL FDI info for MPMan MP-Ki 128

2006-11-07 Thread mibus
1. I think so. I didn't have one, I probably had an old fdi file? My
device was also 512MB, the '128' is just from the USB ident string.

2. Mine is the same. I didn't see that option - if there is one, it
would be good to add it in.

(FWIW, mine won't actually work as an MP3 player any more - either
dd'ing images on and off of it upset it, or it's been through the
wash... I'd really like a YP-U1 or something similar, which can play my
existing Vorbis files)
