[Bug 72209] Re: wrong size after showing the playlist

2006-11-27 Thread David Prieto
I'm sorry, I was quite in a hurry when I wrote the bug and I just
figured you would understand what I was talking about. I'll try to make
myself clearer:

In Totem versions prior to 2.16, opening and closing the sidebar would
result in the window suddenly becoming narrower. The 2.16 version seemed
to fix this, as you could open the sidebar as many times as you wanted
-which would of course make the window wider- and then close it, and the
window would return to its original size.

This behaviour seems to have reverted in 2.17.3, however, since now
opening and closing the sidebar totally messes the size of the window.

*I have to say I haven't read the how-to yet, I will print it and give it a
thorough read at home. I think, however, that the bug is clear now...

There is a similar bug open upstream:

report a such bug with the Ubuntu package and upstream can't reproduce
the bug. It works fine for me and we would probably have receive other

[Bug 73440] GDM does not accept Windows domain logins

2006-11-27 Thread Trent Waddington
Public bug reported:

1. Install Ubuntu on a windows network
2. Configure GDM, there is nowhere to enter domain controller information
3. Try to login with MYDOMAIN\myusername and mypassword, login is refused

In a corporate environment it is unacceptable to expect administrators
to create individual accounts for every user on every machine. It is
also unacceptable to expect administrators to run a unix alternative.

[ok, devils advocate mode disengaged]

Is this a real concern to some people? Or am I just being silly? Would
it be hard to support Windows domain logins if some people do want it?
Obviously modifications to gdm would be required, even if it is just to
spawn an external program to create a local account or synchronise the
account with the domain controller if the login details entered are not
acceptable.

[Bug 32194] Re: no way to set order of startup programs

2006-11-27 Thread Nikolaus Filus
The proposed workarounds are not even short-time solutions, as there are
multiple side effects of the missing startup order.
From my bug report (marked as duplicate):

Especialy the notification area is much to late available, causing different
effects:
- kadu (KDE gadu-gadu IM client) doesn't start in the tray, but shows its icon
on the desktop
- gaim starts in window mode and not minimized as configured
- different notifies (network manager, power manager, updates) are shown at
various inconsistent places / corners

Is there a way to push the upstream developers / upstream priority?

[Bug 71892] Re: no cancel option on shutdown with open applications

2006-11-27 Thread Nikolaus Filus
Automatic session saving works for most gnome applications and gedit is a very
good positive example. But it shouldn't be forced on the application to support
automatic session saving or at least a fallback should be provided, if
unsupported apps are to be closed on logout/shutdown from gnome.
Currently there appears a dialog box saying session saving unsupported by
app1, app2, with only one button - close. This continues the logout
process and the user has no chance to cancel the shutdown and save his data by
himself.
I've recently seen this problem with a java application: JabRef, a bibtex
manager, running minimized on another virtual desktop, which I forgot to close
manualy and lost some entries.

[Bug 73451] Fluxbox versus Gnome/GTK : Epiphany's window resize itself

2006-11-27 Thread Stanislas Zeller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Hello,

I use Ubuntu since 1 year with Fluxbox as WM. This bug I report works
with Fluxbox official package and Fluxbox compiled by myself (last
1.0rc2 for this example). I am under Ubuntu Dapper. Here is I notice :

When I do a right-click and 'Save link as' with Epiphany, I can see two
situations :
- First, all is ok : http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/5121/fluxgtkor7.png
The window size displays correctly for me.
- Second, problem : http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/8087/fluxgtk2cv6.png
The window resize itself in the 'folders' area. You can see it's more smaller
than the first printscreen.

I must resize myself with alt+mouse. This problem doesn't appear all the
time. If you ask me when, which frequency, I can't answer. Sometimes yes
sometimes no. It always is with Epiphany. I don't notice any problems
with others software under Fluxbox. I tested under Gnome to be sure and
I didn't notice this problem.

You say feisty package fix the bug, but it's a pre-beta and too early
for me to move to it.

Do you think we'll have a backport regarding this? in that case I can
 wait for a while!!

The patches were not meant for users, that's the standard procedure to
get a backport for edgy-updates accepted, you can read about it on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates
The fesity comment was to point that the patch has got some testing to
the people who look on uploads to edgy-proposed

[Bug 72200] not a bug on gnome-applets, but in linux-image-686

2006-11-27 Thread Jörg Höhle
I'm sorry. The bug has nothing at all to do with gnome-applets.
I should file a *usability bug* to launchpad: it always confuses me as to where
the bug eventually gets submitted. :-( :-(

When submitting the bug, I choose from the pop up window the package
linux-image-686, because it's a kernel bug (as seen in my Dapper 2.6.15-27
image).
I don't know why my choice of this package does not show up in launchpad.

Another launchpad feature which confuses me is initially uploaded to:
Ubuntu Feisty in the left hand bar. I'm using Dapper and cannot comment
on Feisty.

I don't know how this bug can be reassigned to the kernel package
instead. Maybe only you can do this as an administrator?

I'm sorry for the confusion.

Thank you for your help,
 Jörg Höhle

Re: [Bug 60277] Re: Windows Network entries use a text icon instead of a computer one

2006-11-27 Thread Ian Jackson
gerard writes ([Bug 60277] Re: Windows Network entries use a text icon instead
of acomputer one):
The patches solution seems a bit too complicated for me.

Expanding on what Sebastien Bacher said:

The purpose of bug reports is to help us improve the software.

It's is nice if the information in reports helpful to users too, but
if you really want help you should use support mechanisms - for
example, the Launchpad support request tracker, at
 https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/edgy/+sources/firefox/+addticket
and similar URLs.

So, comments added to bug reports are generally aimed at improving the
software (for example, by trying to understand the problem better) and
not directly at solving your specific problem. And your own comments
should serve that purpose as well.

Thanks,
Ian.

[Bug 69009] Re: Session management does not work and does not agree with ubuntu documentation

2006-11-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 46675 ***

 - Ok to report one issue by bug (and sorry for the mistake) but I
didn't find the other points in other bug reports, do you know where
they are, if I don't suck too much of your time?

Basically session management is known to not work correctly and have all
sort of issues. There is different bugs open upstream (and on the
distribution side too) and I closed that one because one extra bug is
not useful for that, it just make the list of bugs longer and harder to
work with

 - Since the manual is plain wrong, where can I find information to
explain people how to make their programs start automatically at next
login?

The best way is probably to fix the documentation

I understand there must be workarounds (since the
session-management-properties dialog does not work) I personally tweaked my
.config/autostart, but is this the _only_ way ATM?

The gnome-session-properties capplet is supposed to work correctly

[Bug 73513] GNOME panel unresponsive after upgrade to Feisty

2006-11-27 Thread Matt Zimmerman
Public bug reported:

After upgrading a desktop to Feisty, my panel became unresponsive.
Workrave continues to update, but the window list, clock, menu, etc.
don't respond to mouseovers or clicks. This will presumably be fixed by
restarting the panel, but this can't happen during an upgrade. The user
needs to be able to use the panel to log out or restart after the

To use apport for GNOME applications too you can unset the /apps/bug-

it by default because we don't have enough bug triager to handle bugs

[Bug 64516] Re: Keyboard Properties launch bug

2006-11-27 Thread johnaman
Hi to all:

I was recently bitten by the Dapper update bug which caused me to lose
access to X. In trying to fix it myself ( with a dodgy hard drive ) I
basically lost access altogether. When Edgy came out, I waited a little
more until I installed. Here are my issues:

1. I installed OEM - no sound - fixed by [sudo chmod 755 /dev/snd/*].
2. All of my icons in the menus are missing. Installed menu / menu-xdg, ran
update-menus, Debian shows up also with no icons.
3. Keyboard - Alt Tab doesn't work, also - the key repeat does not work at
all. Very frustrating during edits ( have to press arrow keys repeatedly ).
4. I tried to use SystemPreferencesKeyboard when I got the Failed
Unexpectedly / Report Bug dialog.

I am running on an AMD Duron 1250 Mhz but Device Manager says CPU
unknown.

Attached is the crash file

[Bug 71689] Re: Edgy: no audio for mp4 files

2006-11-27 Thread Kevin Kubasik
Since this is a public file (or so it seems, a conference on Blender)
can you hook me up with a link to the file? I'd like to try it on my
(test) 100% vanilla edgy install and see what I need to get it to work.

For the record, if you need this stream soon, vlc should have no issue
playing it, and vlc is in universe.

[Bug 73414] Re: notification area plugin is not working

2006-11-27 Thread Caspar Adriani
some more information, I think there are actually two bugs.

Bug 1 - the notification area plugin is not working
Checkbox:
Enabling and disabling the checkbox by clicking on it (the checkbox) does
switch the checkbox state but does not load the plugin nor gives any output.

Bug 2 - something in the plugin loading/unloading mechanism is wrong
Crash:
I can't reproduce the crash anymore, yesterday I could reproduce it every time
by double clicking on the plugin (another way of (de)selecting the checkbox).
Also I would like to know how I can get the stacktrace for next time. I don't
have any output in my terminal and I can't successfully start xchat-gnome
through gdb (just did file and start).

Error message:
Double clicking wasn't really the problem. Just loading and unloading the
plugin twice (load-ok-unload-ok-load-ok-unload-error) give me the error
(this is also where it previously crashed). I discovered all the plugins give
me this error but the others do (un)load though. Closing the settings window
and starting it again let me (un)load all the plugins again, two times again.
-
Plugin Unload Failed
An error occurred unloading /usr/lib/xchat-gnome/plugins/x.so

I do have my settings(xchat+gnome directory) migrated from a dapper box
but I don't think this is the problem.
