This comment may not be useful anymore, but I've just noticed that if I
click on each part of the menu, instead of waiting for the hovering
mouse to activate the submenu, then it works opening a picture with Gimp
from the context menu.

[Bug 136665] Installer not navigable from keyboard

2007-09-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I was attempting to install 7.04 on my HTPC using the graphical
installer. It has no mouse. When selecting my desired city on the Where
are you? page, I found that I cannot move focus away from the city
combo box, and my install is stuck until I dig around in the closet for
a spare mouse.

Tab does nothing.
Enter opens the combo box.
Spacebar opens the combo box.
Right and left arrow do nothing.
Up and down arrow move up and down the city list.

[Bug 136665] Re: Installer not navigable from keyboard

2007-09-17 Thread Colin Watson
I seem to recall this coming up before, though I can't find the report.
In any event, ubiquity is just using a GtkComboBox here; if it isn't
possible to tab out of it, then IMO that's a GTK bug.

On a bottom panel (orientation bottom), click on properties, uncheck the expand
option.
Log out.
The panel orientation is top and you can't change it unless you change the
expand option to true.

2007-09-17 Thread Ferdaus
Hi

If panel prperties is selected to be in the Middle (on
Application, Place, System) and then one switches off.

Next time one starts in Ubuntu, this panel comes in
the middle.

I fix it by going to properties..
--then selecting EXPAND
-- then again selecting MIDDLE

Thanks

[Bug 114885] Re: Notifications won't work. Error After Logout/In again Ubuntu 7.04

2007-09-17 Thread Franck
Hi,

I want to mention the problem still occurs on Gusty... In fact I didn't
encounter this bug in Feisty, but since I made a fresh Gusty install,
every time I log in a second time, I get this 'Notification Daemon Error
: notifications won't work error'.

Other symptoms are that my desktop settings are not takien into account
for the new session (icon theme, compiz effects, ...)

Is the bug still worked on ? This is quite annoying oner month before
Gusty release.

[Bug 139986] Re: image resize dialog doesn't support image size larger than 10000

2007-09-17 Thread Michael Chudobiak
A sample image isn't necessary. A limit of 1 is indeed set in the
glade files.

Would a boost to 12000 or 15000 work for you? We don't want to set it
too high - gThumb is not optimized to handle huge images.

[Bug 139761] Re: gnome startup problem with initialization

2007-09-17 Thread Ryan Hurley
I'm seeing the same problem after this morning's update (I'm running
Tribe 5, and my previous update was on the 14th). I get the same error
as Andrew. Furthermore, if you run gnome-settings-daemon in a terminal,
you get:

$ gnome-settings-daemon

Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System
error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 1260 error_code 2 request_code 147 minor_code 35)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
aborting...
[1190035719,000,xklavier.c:xkl_engine_start_listen/]The backend does not
require manual layout management - but it is provided by the applicationAborted
(core dumped)

Running gnome-settings-daemon --sync gives the same error.

Oh, and Andrew, I think the theme you're seeing is just the gnome
failsafe, not a crossover from kubuntu, because my theme changed from
what I was running to something that looks like a blocky win98.

[Bug 139986] Re: image resize dialog doesn't support image size larger than 10000

2007-09-17 Thread dmig
12000-15000 is not a solution, actually. I think, it should be set to max size,
which may be handled by gThumb.
It handles 16kx4k JPEG pretty well. So, 2^15 - 2^16 should be enough, if you
don't want to set it to very large values.

[Bug 138277] Re: Gnome settings daemon doesn't work

2007-09-17 Thread Guido Conaldi
Today, after the latest updates on my gutsy i686 gnome-settings-daemon
stopped working. I get the same message as in the screenshot.

Calling g-s-d from the command line I get:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gnome-settings-daemon
The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 915 error_code 2 request_code 147 minor_code 35)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 50318] Re: manpage rendered wrong

2007-09-17 Thread Colin Watson
Christian, there is no error in the source of the xorg.conf(5) manual
page. groff is a typesetting language with its own syntax that you need
to know if you intend to read the source directly. At the top of the
page it declares:

.\ shorthand for double quote that works everywhere.
  .ds q \N'34'

This causes groff to replace \*q with \N'34' whenever it sees it, which
in turn expands to the ASCII symbol. (It would be more usual to use
the predefined \(dq named character instead, but I suspect yelp might
have trouble with that too so who cares.)

There is no character set problem here, nothing to do with complicated
encoding matters or anything; the problem is simply that yelp doesn't
use man or groff to format manual pages and instead tries to do it
itself. Naturally it gets it wrong from time to time. This is a
fundamental design error in yelp and the best that can probably be done
in the short term is to crudely patch around it.

[Bug 136702] Re: nautilus 'replace file' dialog box could give more information

2007-09-17 Thread Stephan7
In additional to above.. I found myself in a bad situation while I was copying
thousands of files
from several sources to the same destination with the idea to merge all files
in one directory.
Several had the same name, although they might or might not be the same kind.

The above dialog appeared with only the choices skip all, replace all,
skip and replace.
Several problems I have with this:
- At that moment I was not able determine if I want to replace or skip, so I
wanted to investigate these files.
But opening any other (new) nautilus window is prevented from exploring
files/directories. It seems the dialog is
blocking all nautilus user actions of every other window. It would be nicer
if you could still work in other nautilus
windows while the dialog is displayed for one.
- When I found that out I wanted to abort the action.. however there is no
button for that.
The close button does also not do anything, so the only possible approach
seemed to kill nautlius.
- Also instead of skip or replace, I would like to have the option to rename
the file to distinguish them.

Note that I like the option skip all, as most filemanagers are limited
to only three: replace yes,no,all.

For those interested.. my workaround I used to overcome above problems.
For each source directory (many cdroms in my situation):
- first copy every source file (using select all) to an empty temporary
directory
- secondly move all files from that temporary directory to the real destination
directory and
upon a conflict choose skip all
- if there was any conflict, the source files are still left in the temporary
directory which I can
then delete, rename or do some other action with.

[Bug 139761] Re: gnome startup problem with initialization

2007-09-17 Thread elyk
I can confirm this bug as well - after installing the updates this morning and
restarting gsd no longer works. Running it in a terminal gives a similar error
to Ryan's.
I suspect that this may have something to do with the capplets update - some
poking around online reveals that its updates have broken g-s-d before. This
does not appear to be an issue with the kernel update - I tried with a previous
version and got the same result.

The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 1478 error_code 2 request_code 147 minor_code 35)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 140487] session lasted less then 10 seconds ...

2007-09-17 Thread MichaLu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Without knowingly changing anything, I'm hit by the 10 seconds bug, working a
month or more with ubuntu 7.04. As far I have seen there is no general solution
and because my .xsession-errors log is different from all others I've seen here
and there, I'll report it again. System ubuntu 7.04, clean install, all updates
applied.
My .xsession-error log is this
---
/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with wtmp and utmp
/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/X11R6/bin/sessreg -a -w
/var/log/wtmp -u /var/run/utmp -x /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xservers -h -l :0
