[Bug 138726] Re: gnome-appearance-properties tabs don't work/display

2007-09-23 Thread sinecure
For me, this problem started not with the upgrade to Gutsy, but sometime
within the last two weeks. For me, however, it's not that the
appearance dialog doesn't work, it's display just doesn't update to
reflect what you are doing to it.

For now, my workaround is to run:
gnome-appearance-properties
--show-page=(theme|background|fonts|interface|effects)

Note that 'effects' is not in the man page. I can make changes I need
to make using that, but I have to remember not to click on a button that
would bring another dialog box up. Any dialog box that shows up as a
child of the gnome-appearance-properties one is empty, so I can't tell
where the buttons are.

but by the second one it crashes.

[Bug 144199] keyboard stops responding after some zoom in/out's with shift+mouse scroll

2007-09-23 Thread przemkus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Kubuntu 7.04 i386

gimp 2.2.13-1ubuntu4.3

Keyboard stops responding after doing some zoom in/out's on image with
shift+mouse scroll. It happens randomly, especially while using crop tool.
While keeping pressing shift and moving scroll on image, it sometimes works for
while (keyboard not responding at the same time).
Re-login in KDE brings back keyboard.
As it happens randomly, it's hard to reproduce on demand. Maybe there is
something I can do to diagnose problem after the keyboard stopped responding?

[Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup

2007-09-23 Thread yatul
I also have similar problem on my Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop with Intel
integrated video. But it takes more than 10 minutes between entering login
credentials and showing gnome panels, if I previously removed .gnome2, .gnome,
.gconf, .gconfd.
If I hasn't cleaned up configs than it only shows background and thats all.
Alt-F2 doesnt'works, Ctrl-Alt-F1/F6 works fine.
Gutsy fully updated, network-manager was removed (works incorrectly with my
WiFi).
Disabling ACPI doesn't help.

[Bug 144232] iCalendar files recognized as vCalendar

2007-09-23 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

evolution 2.12.0-0ubuntu1

My university produces iCalendar files for the lessons calendar, as the one
attached.
When importing them, the dialog automatically selects vCalendar (anyway
iCalendar remains selectable) and if I go Next nothing is imported. I have to
select iCalendar to get the entries to be imported.

Evolution should automatically recognize that the file is a ics and not
vcf

[Bug 117482] Re: Screensaver locks up when using molecules

2007-09-23 Thread Jerry Schaefer
Evidently this bug is a duplicate of Bug #106060, as all the symptoms are the
same, and the hardware software are the same.
Anyone looking for more information should be able to find it in that bug
report. It showed up in updates distributed 04-10-2007.

I don't know about everyone's workload, but I would think that after more than
5 months since this crasher bug was reported,
someone could have removed or blocked the Molecule module so at least it won't
bother users until it can be fixed to work. Not
everyone is capable of using the gconf editor to de-select Molecule so they
don't have to re-install their operating system. :-)
It's like leaving a live bomb lying where kids play. Couldn't we at least put
it away somewhere until we can defuse it? It's not
an essential part of the system - it's just an optional frill - so removing the
option to choose it seems like a good workaround.

Maybe g-p-m could send the 'xset -dpms' command when it starts as a
workaround. This should really be fixed.

[Bug 144273] transfering songs to iPod incorrectly modifies the year id3 tag

2007-09-23 Thread Zachary Berry
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I'm using Ubuntu 7.04, RB 0.10.0, and I have a 4G iPod 40GB. When I
attempt to transfer songs to my iPod using RB (either via firewire or
usb 2) the year information is changed.

For example, with the following songs in my library:

* Title, Genre, Artist, Album, Year
===
* 1 - Vaka, Alternative, Sigur Ros, ( ), 2002
* Intro, Hip-Hop, De La Soul, 3 Feed High and Rising, 1989
* Vertical, Electronic, 4mat, 8BP050, 2006

Once transfered on my iPod they become

* 1 - Vaka, Alternative, Sigur Ros, ( ), 9955
* Intro, Hip-Hop, De La Soul, 3 Feed High and Rising, 5207
* Vertical, Electronic, 4mat, 8BP050, 11416

This happens to every song. I believe that it doesn't happen every
time, but its been a while since I last transfered music and I can't
completely remember if I have seen it work correctly before.

I can supply whatever additional info is needed.

Thanks, I heart RB.

[Bug 112518] Re: Switch User freezes at blank screen

2007-09-23 Thread iblackburn
I'd like to confirm this bug on Gutsy amd64 (nvidia 6100) with compiz-fusion
running. This looks like a compiz-fusion issue
as this simply does not occur with metacity. With compiz-fusion running it is
simply not possible to work with multiple users. The only option is a hard
reboot.

[Bug 144276] file chooser: cannot copy, cut, paste, dragdrop, rename, delete

2007-09-23 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
Public bug reported:

gtk2.0 2.12.0-1ubuntu1

some really important features are missing in the gtk filechooser. These
are the use case:

Mr. X is saving/opening a file and this might happen:
1) he needs to rename an existing file because he wants to save the new file
with the same name, but does not want to loose the old file (SAVE ONLY)
2) he sees a file, in the current view, that is no more needed, and he wants to
delete it
3) he sees a spelling mistake in a filename/dirname
4) he wants to create a directory to save the new file, but he gives the wrong
name to it, and wants to rename it (SAVE ONLY)
5) he sees a file that is not in the correct directory
6) he creates a new directory to rearrange the current dir, because he has lots
of files that can be grouped

now if this happesn, Mr X has to open nautilus to do all these things.
This is in my opinion not acceptable.

[Bug 144279] file chooser: missing icon (text, image, video) preview

2007-09-23 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
Public bug reported:

version 2.12.0-1ubuntu1

I think that text, image and video preview is an essential feature that is
missing in gtk filechooser. It only displays the mime-type icon.
It should also display the real file preview, as nautilus does.
moreover gtkfilechooser only has list view: it needs a new icon view (the same
as nautilus) to have a bigger image preview.

Appending a box with a preview of the current selected file is not a
solution (the user needs to view all previews at the same time, to
quickly find the file he needs)

I also realised that it happens mostly after I've cold booted the system

And most of the time, if it finally works, I can log in and out or I can

me tot the idea that it's something network-related. Does anybody know

[Bug 144292] overfilling iPod crashes rhythmbox

2007-09-23 Thread Zachary Berry
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Ubuntu 7.04, RB 0.10.0, iPod 4G 40GB.

When moving a large number of files to the iPod via RB, if the iPod runs
out of space a pop-up error window will open on every song that still
needs to be transfered over. This caused X to crash (since I still had
probably 20 GB to go!), resulting in a sudden restart of my system.

[Bug 102921] Re: Moving the mouse cursor over the gnome-system-monitor temporarily causes network and disk usage to become zero

2007-09-23 Thread Adam Dunn
I took a video of the problem with Istanbul.
At 7-12 seconds I move the mouse around inside the network graph to show that
moving the mouse inside the graph is not sufficient to create the problem.
At 15-25 seconds I move the mouse in and out of the graph area a couple times
to show the reproduction of the problem.
At 25-32 seconds I move the mouse over the other graphs in gnome-system-monitor
applet to show that popping the mouse over any graph will cause the network
graph to go down.
At 35-40 seconds, a demonstration that tooltips in other Gnome Panel icons
don't reproduce, nor does partially covering the graphs with a tooltip.
Finally, at 40-46 seconds I move the mouse in and out of the graph area
repeatedly (though it's hard to tell in the video), to show that this can
create a long valley in the graph.
Note that System Monitor is running below to show what the graphs should
approximately look like. I tried screencasting just the relevant portion of my
screen, but Istanbul's area recording isn't working at the moment, so you get
the entire desktop instead.

[Bug 144318] Context menus showing configuration options of panels should be improved to avoid a user to suppress an applet by mistake

2007-09-23 Thread antistress
Public bug reported:

(NB : This bug is basically a GNOME one, but as Ubuntu decided to
place the trash can on the panel, this bug is more present in Ubuntu)

To empty the Trash can, i can right-click on the trash-icon of the panel and
select empty the trash can but i can also suppress the icon from the panel in
the same move !
If i want to mute the system volume i can right-click on the loudspeaker-icon
of the panel but i can also suppress the icon from the panel in the same move !
etc.

Quite dangerous : i can imagine the disapointement of the user who
doesn't know how to repair its mistake...

The same matter occurs if i want to eject an audio CD, i can right-click
on the icon on the desktop and select eject but i can also change the
icon size.

The matter is that in the same move (right-clicking an icon) you can choose an
action (eject the CD, mute the VOLUME, empty the TRASH CAN) as well as a
configuration option (change THE ICON size, suppress THE ICON from the panel).
Action concerns the object (CD, volume, trash can) whereas configuration
options concern the icon that represents the object.

We can imagine different ways to improve the situation :

I - Concerning specifically the panel, if the icon is locked on the
panel, the suppress icon from the panel should appear in grey (not
active)

II - An entry in SystemPreferences menu should allow to configure
theses options

III - Configuration options should appear in a sub menu :
Here is an exemple with the trash can applet context menu :
1. Open
2. Empty
3. Configuration options
3a. Suppress the icon from the panel
3b. Move the icon
3c. Lock on the panel

IV - ...

As far as i'm concerned, I prefer # IV : that idea can apply to all
situations (panel icons and desktop icons) and solve the problem
(configuration options are not directly accessible anymore and therefore
there is less risk for a bad manipulation. Also the presentation of the
options is more logic with a clear separation between actions
configuration options) without having to tweak options of each icons on
the panel.

Thanks for having read this message in spite of my bad english

[Bug 144325] [Gutsy] Face browser missing faces

2007-09-23 Thread Matthew Gregg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Using Human List theme when GDM starts for the first time after a boot the
first user in the list shows the correct image for the user, but the other
users show the default image. Images have been choosen for users using the
About Me utility.
If GDM is restarted (ctrl-alt-backspace) all images are displayed correctly in
the face browser.

** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 144330] Using funtion key to change volume of rhythmbox sometimes causes linux to freeze

2007-09-23 Thread Afkpuz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

The title pretty much says it all. Sometimes, if I use the function
keys on my keyboard to change the volume of rhythmbox, it locks up the
whole system. I've never had the problem using the slider volume
controls. I'm running a gateway m680 laptop with fiesty.
