[Bug 149728] [Gutsy]Socks proxy settings are ignored by Evolution and Apt
Public bug reported: I am running Gutsy Beta with all the updates until Oct. 5th on an AMD64 machine. Here's the problem: I am connecting to the internet over WLAN, using a VPN connection and a proxy is needed for the network. The proxy of the normal network blocks most ports, including POP, SMTP etc., but SSH is open. Setting this proxy in system = settings = network proxy, apt recoginzes it and I can install updates and new packages. Trying to use a SSH proxy with 'ssh -D 1080 [EMAIL PROTECTED]' and setting this as a socks proxy in Gnome (system = settings = network proxy: localhost and 1080), it doesn't work. I cannot download updates and Evolution (which uses these settings?) doesn't connect either. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 129152 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129152 I believe this bug as some others fall under the category embarrassing. There are a certain number of bugs in Ubuntu, which fall under that category and make the OS look unpolished. I believe we need to add a feature to the bug tracking system to identify these bugs, so people who want to make Ubuntu look more professional can more easily track down, what they need to lay their hands on. I therefore proposed a feature to allow the community to either add tags to bug reports or vote on the embarrassment factor: bug #149775. [Bug 129029] Re: [Gutsy Tribe-5] No Sound on Login Screen or during Login
Uploaded, pending approval now: libgnome (2.20.0-1ubuntu4) gutsy; urgency=low . * Completely rewrite debian/patches/11_aplay_fallback.patch to make it work for sound events from gnome-session (like login/logout sounds), too. gnome_sound_sample_load() now keeps a map of sound name - sound file, so that gnome_triggers_play_sound() has a chance to find the file name to call aplay on. . This still does not repair general sound events for all applications (since gnome-session preloads the sound events into esd usually, which we cannot do without esd), but for Gutsy purposes this is an unintrusive workaround. In Hardy we should either switch to pulse by default, or get upstream to drop this esound abdomination altogether. [Bug 149788] Copy and Paste does not work half the time in Gnome
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome Copy and Paste does not work half of the time in Gnome. What works even less is pasting stuff via middle mouse button. The latter is for the reason, that activating things in Gnome very often also results in certain input fields being marked by default. This usually overrides the text you have marked deliberately. KDE handles this differently! I believe the way they do it provides better usability. Texts like the URL in Konqueror are marked by default, so you can easily paste your new URL from the middle-key-clipboard to replace what is in there now. You can paste this without having to mark the URL by hand and therefore loosing your current middle-key-clipboard value, thereby rendering the middle-key functionality unusable for that matter. System-induced markings thereby do not overwrite the middle-key- clipboard, which is the correct behavior, since well, I did not initiate/want it, right? Other then that, Gnome very often looses what I CTRL+C to the clipboard. I have no idea why. Could be it is using the same clipboard for the middle key as it is using for CTRL+C. This is a bug, which I would mark as embarrassing as well, according to this: bug #149775 Some might say, this is not a bug, but the way Gnome people want it to be. But still it is a BUG since most people don't expect it to be that way! ** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Copy and Paste does not work half the time in Gnome https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149788 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for meta-gnome2 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
