[Bug 149709] Re: (evolution:7983): camel-CRITICAL **: get_message_info: assertion `folder-summary != NULL' failed

2007-10-06 Thread Pirx
Additional information:

The delayed start may be a Gnome issue, which does not affect all apps,
e.g. Firefox and OpenOffice 2.3 (AFTER COMPLETE RE-INSTALL) do not have
this issue, while Evolution (EVEN AFTER COMPLETE RE-INSTALL), gedit,
terminal etc. do have this problem.

[Bug 149728] [Gutsy]Socks proxy settings are ignored by Evolution and Apt

2007-10-06 Thread der_vegi
Public bug reported:

I am running Gutsy Beta with all the updates until Oct. 5th on an AMD64
machine.

Here's the problem: I am connecting to the internet over WLAN, using a VPN
connection and a proxy is needed for the network. The proxy of the normal
network blocks most ports, including POP, SMTP etc., but SSH is open. Setting
this proxy in system = settings = network proxy, apt recoginzes it and I can
install updates and new packages.
Trying to use a SSH proxy with 'ssh -D 1080 [EMAIL PROTECTED]' and setting this
as a socks proxy in Gnome (system = settings = network proxy: localhost and
1080), it doesn't work. I cannot download updates and Evolution (which uses
these settings?) doesn't connect either. If I set exactly the same thing in
Firefox, I can browse the web without a problem and Thunderbird works, too.

[Bug 149747] evolution does not start when no web connection

2007-10-06 Thread Andrew Frank
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

when the web is not connected (but last time evolution run it was
connected) then evolution does not start. it shows 'starting evolution'
but seems to wait for the web connection. (and 'starting evolution'

i think the correct behaviour were to start evolution as 'not connected'
and connect automatically when the web appears.

(by the way: apport used to report a bug with a web connection which
changes goes to 100% cpu. it seems to do an busy wait it cannot be

[Bug 149745] Gutsy: Nautilus can't access to windows network (running well before)

2007-10-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I cant get Nautilus to 'find the windows network' probably since a
recent distrib-update (Gutsy) because that was ok a few days/weeks (?)
ago using Gutsy.

On the other hand I can access to my windows shares so it is not a
physical network problem.

Re: [Bug 147447] Re: configure workspace Gutsy beta

2007-10-06 Thread elias
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 129152 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129152

I believe this bug as some others fall under the category
embarrassing. There are a certain number of bugs in Ubuntu, which fall
under that category and make the OS look unpolished.

I believe we need to add a feature to the bug tracking system to
identify these bugs, so people who want to make Ubuntu look more
professional can more easily track down, what they need to lay their
hands on.

I therefore proposed a feature to allow the community to either add tags
to bug reports or vote on the embarrassment factor: bug #149775.

If any of you believe this would be a healthy feature for Ubuntu, please
add your comment to bug #149775.

[Bug 129029] Re: [Gutsy Tribe-5] No Sound on Login Screen or during Login

2007-10-06 Thread Martin Pitt
Uploaded, pending approval now:

 libgnome (2.20.0-1ubuntu4) gutsy; urgency=low
 .
   * Completely rewrite debian/patches/11_aplay_fallback.patch to make it
work for sound events from gnome-session (like login/logout sounds), too.
gnome_sound_sample_load() now keeps a map of sound name - sound file, so
that gnome_triggers_play_sound() has a chance to find the file name to
 call aplay on.
 .
This still does not repair general sound events for all applications
(since gnome-session preloads the sound events into esd usually, which we
cannot do without esd), but for Gutsy purposes this is an unintrusive
workaround. In Hardy we should either switch to pulse by default, or get
upstream to drop this esound abdomination altogether. (LP: #129029)

[Bug 148291] Re: Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'.

2007-10-06 Thread Thom Pischke
That seemed to work. Updated, uncommented the Synaptics entry in
xorg.conf and rebooted -- This time login proceeded without any
gllitches. Of course, the mouse cursor now moves slow as molasses with
the touchpad now when it was fast before, but that's a different issue,
and a minor one.

Thanks!

[Bug 149788] Copy and Paste does not work half the time in Gnome

2007-10-06 Thread elias
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

Copy and Paste does not work half of the time in Gnome. What works even
less is pasting stuff via middle mouse button. The latter is for the
reason, that activating things in Gnome very often also results in
certain input fields being marked by default. This usually overrides the
text you have marked deliberately.

KDE handles this differently! I believe the way they do it provides
better usability. Texts like the URL in Konqueror are marked by default,
so you can easily paste your new URL from the middle-key-clipboard to
replace what is in there now. You can paste this without having to mark
the URL by hand and therefore loosing your current middle-key-clipboard
value, thereby rendering the middle-key functionality unusable for that
matter.

System-induced markings thereby do not overwrite the middle-key-
clipboard, which is the correct behavior, since well, I did not
initiate/want it, right?

Other then that, Gnome very often looses what I CTRL+C to the clipboard.
I have no idea why. Could be it is using the same clipboard for the
middle key as it is using for CTRL+C.

This is a bug, which I would mark as embarrassing as well, according
to this: bug #149775

Some might say, this is not a bug, but the way Gnome people want it to
be. But still it is a BUG since most people don't expect it to be that
way!

[Bug 32089] Re: Non-i18n date formatting in Evolution time edit fields

2007-10-06 Thread Runar Ingebrigtsen
Screenshot of new appointment in Evolution.

Correct formatting in Norway would be: 06.10.2007 11:00

** Summary changed:

- Can't create appointment (select date problem) in Evolution
+ Non-i18n date formatting in Evolution time edit fields

** Description changed:

- Trying to create a meeting or an appointment in Evolution gives an error
- when saving.
+ [Was: Can't create appointment (select date problem) in Evolution]

- Validate error: Start date error.
+ There's a six year old bug in the evolution calendar component where the
+ date formatting of time edit fields isn't following international ISO
+ standards. The bug causes problems for non-US-users. I experienced
+ invalid date value - which prevented saving the appointment, when I
+ was using Dapper. The saving part was fixed in Dapper, the formatting
+ problem still persists.

- (Actually, in Norwegian: Valideringsfeil: Startdato er feil.)
-
- Then it says Invalid date value and whatever I try to change the date
- or close the window gives the same errors.
+ I'm now using Gutsy. The time fields of new appointment in Evolution
+ shows US-formatted dates, the interface is Norwegian bokmål.
