[Bug 151188] Rhythmbox crashes X if in visualization mode

2007-10-09 Thread Antonio Lopes Sampaio

Rythmbox doesn't work at all if I turn visualization mode on. It makes X

Steps to reproduce:

1. Play a song
2. Toggle the visualization mode on

I'm using an ATI card with fglrx.

[Bug 151145] Evince print fails with Postscript driver

2007-10-09 Thread Matt Vickers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Printer: Brother HL-1850

Driver: Foomatic/Postscript (Recommended)

Problem: Printing a pdf from evince results in data being sent to the printer
(as evidenced by status light on printer), but the file is never printed. There
is an eventual timeout where the job disappears from the queue and the printer
data light stops. This occurs with numerous settings (duplex on/off etc) and
running evince as root makes no difference.
However, with the same driver and settings, no such problem occurs printing a
document from OOo Writer or Impress presentation.

Selecting a different driver from the list such as hpijs or HL1250
allows printing with evince, but not exactly as desired (duplex and
resolution problems). The BRScript-3 (for HL1850N) driver displays the
same problem as the Postscript driver.

Postscript is the recommended driver and has worked perfectly under
previous releases.

I'm unable to tell whether the problem is with evince or the driver, but
since it works from other programs I'm assuming evince.

Only one error in the logs, but this occurs even when a job does print
so seems not relevant to the problem.

[Bug 151133] [Gutsy] desktop shows after a mouse click.

2007-10-09 Thread Rysh
Public bug reported:

Hi

When I upgraded the kernel and did a reboot to load this kernel I went
to get some coffee, to expect my desktop back by the time I returned to
my computer. But when I was back the desktop showed only the background
colour (I have auto login enabled). After I click 1 time in the empty
desktop space the panel and the icons I have on the desktop showed.

[Bug 151134] Semantics of 'Open' and 'Close' when an extraction finishes confusing

2007-10-09 Thread Mary Gardiner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

When Sound Juicer successfully extracts a CD, a dialog box appears,
reading: "[album name] has been copied successfully."

This dialog box has two buttons, "Open" and "Close". Since this pair of
verb antonyms is presented without different noun objects, I expected
that they will do the exact opposite of each other, the Open button
opening X and Close closing that same X. But then since there's no
obvious candidate for X, I then thought that the "Close" button must
close the entire program, which I didn't want. I only worked out what
they actually did by testing them both ("Close" just closes the dialog).

Ideally it would be clearer than this: "Open extracted music files" and
"Continue using Sound Juicer", or something of the kind. Or maybe "Open
music files" and "OK"/"Continue". I suspect the GNOME HIG calls for
"Close" here, but when contrasted with "Open", the user (assuming I'm
typical) expects it to do exactly the opposite of "Open", which is
utterly confusing.

[Bug 150815] save-as PDF produces human readable but not machine readable PDFs

2007-10-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: abiword

To reproduce:

1. Create new document in Abi, type something like "test" as save the document
as a pdf
2. Open the document in a PDF reader (eg, evince), copy the text to the
clipboard
3 Paste the clipboard somewhere

Actual results:

The pasted text is some string that was not what was entered into the
document or displayed in the PDF.

Expected resulst:

The pasted text is the same string what was entered.

Reproducable: every time.

This seems to be a bug in Abiword as if I open for example the same MS
Word document and save as a PDF (this is my main use case for this
feature), OO.o saves it correctly while Abi does not. It's not a problem
with importing the MS Word document itself however, as the steps to
reproduce above illustrate.

I'll file this upstream as soon as the send me my bugzilla account
details.

[Bug 150940] Print range does not default back to "all" for each seperate document resulting in blank pages being printed

2007-10-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager

To reproduce:

1. Open a document and go to print. Select a print range of some random
page(s). Not sure if you have to click print for the settings to stick.
2. Close that document and open a new one. Now if you go to print the print
range still specifies the same range to be printed as the last document even if
the new document does not contain enough pages. This results in a blank page
being printed.

2007-10-09 Thread kim wally
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

i multiple email accounts -i have forums feeding into them and they are
organised. in evolution
i cannot go to an individual email account and see my new mail. i tried to set
up a search folder but this is unreliable. it worked to some extent for one
sender but then refused to gather mail from others -it seems there is some sort
of limit to one
i have just installed the latest ubuntu and evolution is the default mail
client.
When i used thunderbird (for years ) the left hand pane contains all my email
accounts from which i can choose one -easy.Surely evolution does something
similar?

If i boot up my computer it doesn't work.

But if i logout and I relogin it work, because compiz and gnome-panel

[Bug 151079] Remember and reuse "Save a Copy..." path

2007-10-09 Thread Pander
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Evince does not remember or reuse "Save a Copy..." path.

When having multiple instances of evince open for viewing different PDF
files, it does not reuse the "Save a Copy..." path which was set by one
of the other instances. Also it does not remember that path after
closing all the instances and creating a new instance.

Implementing this functionality will enable saving copies more
efficiently.

[Bug 147943] Re: [MASTER] broken initial stacking (was: compiz hides quick loading windows at login)

2007-10-09 Thread Gavindi
I have three PCs, two desktop with nVidia cards and one laptop with
Intel 945 and the last Compiz fixes have not helped. I noticed that in
todays updates that there is new gnome-panel patches and I was hopeful
that it may have helped the situation. But alas, the problem still
persists on all three machines.

As an aside:
We are getting very close to Gutsy's release date, does an executive decision
need to be made on Compiz (eg rollback to last known good or disabled by
default)?

[Bug 147943] Re: [MASTER] broken initial stacking (was: compiz hides quick loading windows at login)

2007-10-09 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
Surprisingly, with the update today of the package nvidia-glx-new the
bug has been fixed for me. I am using a Nvidia GeForce 7300. Well, I
have also updated to kernel 2.6.22-14, but I don't think this is
related.

Re: [Bug 67307] Re: EDGY RC, USB storage devices no longer mounted

2007-10-09 Thread DavidMandala
Well I just installed this a week ago Tuesday on my laptop and updated
it everyday since. Given how hard it was to install it then, I'm loath
to try that again, I lack a full days time for that trick. The beta
image from last week would not install, I had to install 7.04 and
upgrade, no other way. (That was reported.)

However the bug has changed a bit more. I used the device for something
else so I had to reformat it. I used fdisk and put a fresh partition on
it using the entire device as the first partition, and then formatted it
vfat with mkfs.vfat. Now it attempts to mount the device and fails with:

[10394.36] usb 5-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and

So what is the proper thing to do here? Open a new bug, leave it here.
I'm not sure what is the correct thing.

Cheers,

David

But it was never assigned a device.

I rebooted the machine and it now was recognized as a storage device,
but not mounted, when attempting to mount it manually I did:

 sudo mkdir /media/sdb1
 sudo mount -t auto /dev/sdb1 /media/sdb1
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
 Then I did
 sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /media/sdb1
 and it mounted normally.

I am a local user on my laptop, it's an IBM T43

[Bug 147943] Re: [MASTER] broken initial stacking (was: compiz hides quick loading windows at login)

2007-10-09 Thread Mr Freeze
So.out of curiosity.I enabled compiz and tried the latest fix.
Expectedly, the fix did not work.
I hope this thing doesn't spoil the official release of Gutsy Gibbon. It
wouldn't look so good if I'm showing a Windoze user the newest release of
Ubuntuand he asks me why I had to click the desktop to get that bottom
panel to show on the screenLOL. Geezethat would make a Linux skeptic's
day, now wouldn't it? Today is the 9thI think the Gutsy release date is
the 18th.time's running out !!!
I'll disable compiz again and wait for the next fix try. Good luck developers,
because IMO the longer this goes, the harder it will be to find after it's
buried beneath more and more updates to the whole system.

Re: [Bug 22930] Re: Newly-sensitive button ignores clicks until cursor re-enters it

2007-10-09 Thread whorush
sure, there is a balance.

and there are more important bugs to fix. thats why this one has been open
for 5+ years. still, i believe that maybe theres a better way to do it?
this bug can easily be fixed in 15 minutes by the person who wrote this code
in the first place. is that who would normally fix it? can't we just track
him down or something?

maybe thats a way to move the bugs along a bit better, to have people fix
their own code? that way, maybe we won't just be skimming off the top of
the priority list all the time?

[Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup

2007-10-09 Thread Christoffer Sørensen
Deskbar is really slow to load, I guess it has to do with python being
slow.

Logging in again is fast maybe caused by caching.

Logging in twice in edgy is really fast also (about 7 seconds here).

[Bug 151040] Desktop starts to load but fails to load completely upon login/logout

2007-10-09 Thread Marc Zuverink
Public bug reported:

Gusty, all updates installed as of 14:51 EST, i386

If a user logs out from a session then either the same user or another user
attempts to login, the desktop(gnome) fails to completely load.
The desktop background color, panels and such load, but the wallpaper does not
and you get no results from right clicking on the desktop and clicking on any
icon placed on the panels do not respond either.

The menu(Applications, Places, etc... work, or they pull down and you
can start an app that way), but thats about it.

When logging in into Gnome the Gnome panel "remembers" the applets and

[Bug 149716] Re: cuando detengo la música y c ierro, se activa y sigue tocando y se cierra la apliacio n cuando la vuelvo abrir se rompe y se cierra

2007-10-09 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

"Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'.

effect. This could indicate a problem with Bonobo, or a non-GNOME (e.g. KDE)

That's not really directed at you.. I'm just pissed that they haven't
fixed this (or even commented).

"This" is specifically about LDAP users not being able to mount USB
devices. I'd guess your issue is a new bug, if it's reproducible with a
fresh install.

[Bug 149942] Re: Keyboard shortcuts in workspace switcher do not work

2007-10-09 Thread M
In the 7.04 version of Ubuntu CTRL-ALT-arrow was a global keyboard
shortcut to switch workspaces; I've tried using that shortcut from many
different contexts but none have worked, whereas it used to work no
matter what in 7.04. I have four workspaces configured, and the only
way to switch between them is to click in the workspace switcher. I
tried using the desktop effects option but it crippled the workspace
switcher even more - I could not even see multiple desktops in my
workspace switcher - so I uninstalled it. It seems that if desktop
effects is installed, it takes over workspace settings from the
workspace switcher panel applet.

2007-10-09 Thread Charlie Schluting

If people keep replying with unrelated issues, the devs will ignore this
even longer. At least, it'll make it harder to see at a glance what the
real issue is. Perhaps there's multiple issues in this bug, but _I
believe_ it the majority of the focus is on people who have LDAP users.

It has been over a year.. it's unfortunate that this problem isn't
impacting the single-user experience.

It seams that a lot of people have no sound, no audio group and no /dev/dsp/
and /dev/esd directory depending of the version of linux kernel, width Intel
audio card (and other cards, if i read this topic...).

Is this bug a knowing bug ? I don't understand why is on a Low
Importance, with status incomplete and no assigned because you can find
this bug repport on many board at many date.

mon lspci : Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio

Aparement un nombre important de personnes n'ont pas de sons, pas groupe audio,

used to be. IT is still not fast enough, but when I do a ctrl+alt+bkspc
and then login again, it takes about 10 seconds. So it may have little
to do with Gnome itself. I still think those two items or whatever
they're a frontend for is the problem.

[Bug 149716] Re: cuando detengo la música y c ierro, se activa y sigue tocando y se cierra la apliacio n cuando la vuelvo abrir se rompe y se cierra

2007-10-09 Thread Kees Cook
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Your bug report is more likely to get attention if it is made in
English, since this is the language understood by the majority of Ubuntu
developers. Additionally, please only mark a bug as "security" if it
shows evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries or to
directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any
other bugs you may find.

** Visibility changed to: Public

** This bug is no longer flagged as a security issue

[Bug 67307] Re: EDGY RC, USB storage devices no longer mounted

2007-10-09 Thread DavidMandala
When I plugged in my USB storage device it was recognized as a USB
device but not recognized as a storage device, it was never assigned a
device.

I saw messages like:

[ 154.708000] usb 5-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
[ 154.852000] usb 5-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

But it was never assigned a device.

I rebooted the machine and it now was recognized as a storage device,
but not mounted, when attempting to mount it manually I did:

sudo mkdir /media/sdb1
sudo mount -t auto /dev/sdb1 /media/sdb1
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
Then I did
sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /media/sdb1
and it mounted normally.

I am a local user on my laptop, it's an IBM T43

[Bug 150103] Re: Apparent corruption after ripping Sony/EMI copy controlled CD

2007-10-09 Thread Kees Cook
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
