[Bug 151787] epiphany: "Save as" vs. "download"

2007-10-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When trying to download a .deb file using Epiphany, it prompts:

File Type: “Software package”.
It is unsafe to open “filename.deb” as it could potentially damage your
documents or invade your privacy. You can download it instead.

It then gives the options "save as..." and "download". To me, there is
no difference in meaning between these options. However, "download" has
no apparent effect aside from popping up a window for a split second,
while "save as..." prompts for a location in which to save the file.

I just now realized that "download" saves the file to the desktop, but
this is definitely not clear from the prompt. Both options are doing
both "downloading" the file and "saving" the file...so the different
words are not at all helpful.

In addition, I should be able to do what I want with the file; epiphany
should not second-guess my judgement by making it annoying to install
software.

I have reinstalled the operating system several times. After as few as

Public bug reported:

I have a FAT32 partition that I share on my home Samba network. It's

Unfortunately, Nautilus apparently cannot search in FAT32? I changed the
option to tell it to search for zip files in a folder on my partition
(the folder I told it to search was about 100 zip files), and it came up
with no results. So, this leads me to believe that Nautilus cannot

[Bug 149224] Re: Gedit windows shrink each time the session is saved

2007-10-11 Thread Patrice St-Gelais
I searched a duplicate with the Launchpad search tool before submitting
the bug, and after your first reply, without success.

This is my first bug report (I'm new to Ubuntu, I switched a few weeks
ago from another distrib). I was interested to follow it up, because I
prefer to keep gedit as my main editor for simple text files.

Your statement about the duplicates seemed to be based on an immediate
knowledge, or maybe, on an "educated" Launchpad search. This is what I
was looking for.

I wouldn't mind about assessing this bug as minor. However, I have
reservation discarding it as a duplicate on a "hearsay" basis, given the
unsuccessful attempts to find an alleged original. This is a matter of
rigour.

[Bug 150513] Terminal window black when maximized

2007-10-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Note: This might be a duplicate of Bug #112568.

I've just upgraded from Feisty to Gutsy and now when I open my gnome-terminal
window, which is done through my keyboard shortcut of Ctrl+Alt+X, the window
opens perfectly.
But when I maximize the window, both through Alt+F10 and via the Maximize
window button, all window content goes black.
I can see the menu and window frame and stuff, but not the command prompt.

To make the terminal visible, I just have to left clock somewhere in the
window, but I can't find a way to do it with the keyboard only.

A very disturbing behavior to me who like not to use the mouse more than
necessarily.

I'm using "Normal" Visual Effects.

[Bug 66104] Re: scim: input freezes in various applications under XIM mode

2007-10-11 Thread Arne Goetje
OK, I have put a patched libx11 package on my PPA.

[Bug 33068] Re: [shares-admin] NFS/SMB not restarted once shares are added - require manual restart

2007-10-11 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Another comment: current behavior is to kill *all* the connections when
samba is restarted, and this is the only way to securely unshare a
folder. Now may be this is a proper samba bug, in the sense that it
should be able to reload its configuration but killing only those
connections that are no longer allowed. It can be hard to implement but
it's the correct solution.

[Bug 33068] Re: [shares-admin] NFS/SMB not restarted once shares are added - require manual restart

2007-10-11 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
I think that in this case security should matter more than posix
semantics, and if a folder is unshared, then all connections reading
that folder should be killed. However, this problem should perhaps be
discussed on the development mailing list, or with somebody who is
committed to ubuntu security.

[Bug 150346] Re: gnome-panel gutsy crashes when switching workspace

2007-10-11 Thread Gladstone
Ok, after following the wiki, I installed yelp-dbgsym (also installing
the firefox and yelp dependancies - I really wish yelp didnt depend on
Firefox - I have no use for firefox on my system).

I've re-attached a backtrace, although it doesn't look any different
than before. What am I doing wrong?

More notes on this: I'm guessing mouse wheel now changes workspace? I
can successfully change workspace using this method, although the window
switcher doesn't update to the current desk. It also doesn't update if I
change the amount of desks in the preferences.

Re: [Bug 151632] Re: No way in Rhythmbox to refresh/update music library after moving/renaming/updating tags in songs

2007-10-11 Thread Omegamormegil
Pedro,

I was referring to the ID3 tags, but I was totally wrong about them not
getting automatically updated. When you change a tag (with Listen, for
example) it is updated immediately in Rhythmbox. You are correct, that
after renaming a folder containing music, that Rhythmbox has the correct
information after restarting the program - I don't know how I didn't notice
that that worked.

The songs are still duplicated in the library, if the folder is renamed
while Rhythmbox is open, and you try to view the songs, and half of them
don't work. I guess this is what I origionally noticed, although it isn't
nearly as large an annoyance as I originally thought. Sorry for the bad
info.

[Bug 151701] permissions altered while saving over sshfs mount

2007-10-11 Thread Nthalk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

gEdit alters permissions when saving a file over sshfs.

Kate and Quanta both do not do this.

1. sshfs -o uid=1000,gid=1000 myhost.com /media/mymount

2. $ls -l /media/mymount/ | grep myfile
-rwxrwx--- 1 me me 7912 2007-10-11 13:37 myfile

3. gedit /media/mymount/myfile

4. Edit the file.

5. Save

6. $ls -l /media/mymount/ | grep myfile
-rw--- 1 me me 44275 2007-10-11 13:40 myfile

Notes:

I tried mounting the sshfs folder with umask=007, and the same thing happened.
I tried making a brand new file after mounting the folder, and that file's
permissions stayed ug+rw.

It's only when opening a previously existing file on the mount that the
permissions somehow are modified with ga-rw.

This was reported on GUTSY, with the package gedit_2.20.1-0ubuntu3_i386

[Bug 151697] evolution calendar date bug

2007-10-11 Thread Laestrygo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This is a new bug in evolution 2.12.0-0ubuntu5 and seems to be similar
to

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/32089

, but #32089 relates to previous versions of ubuntu.

It is also similar to bugs reported in gnome bugzilla:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=329356
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=205137

, but again these bugs seem to affect much older versions of evolution.

Bug description:

When creating an appointment in evolution calendar two error messages
pop up saying "Incorrect date" and "An error has been detected while
verifying the proper date: The starting date was incorrect" (the
messages are translated from Polish - original messages can be seen in
the screenshot http://www.laestrygo.pl/zrzutekranu.png) and it is
impossible to save the appointment.

The same bug is present in the latest final release of openSUSE 10.3, so
I assume it is an upstream gnome bug.

I also checked if the same problem appears in other language versions of
GNOME environment, but the bug affects only the Polish version. I
verified German, Spanish, US English and British English GNOME
environments of 2.20 version of Gnome and none of them seems to be
affected by this bug.

The same problem appears when trying to edit or create contacts with
birthday.

I confirm that samba automatically reload its configuration file if it
has been modified.

However, the new configuration won't be applied to clients already
connected. samba needs to be restarted (and thus break/close all
existing connections).

So if you're connected to a share, unshare it on the server, and keep
the connection open, it will still work. New connections won't succeed
though.

Could people experiencing the bug please test:

If that's the case, what's your alsa driver? (lsmod | grep snd)

sizes as returned by snd_pcm_format_physical_width().

[Bug 116990] Re: Rhythmbox sound problems (clicking/snapping/crackling) when not using crossfading backend

2007-10-11 Thread Loïc Minier
@Martin: but then people would still get the bug when augmenting the
output volume. The issue is caused by 32 versus 16-bits samples on the
output device, so I think a hack that helps prefer a mode and still
allows for the other modes to be selected is better than one that keeps
the bad mode but reduces the volume.

I'll attach some test cases for us to track whether this is really an
ALSA bug or perhaps a GStreamer bug.

Of course, most people aren't Dvorakists. If you're looking at a
regular US QWERTY keyboard, when you do your Dvorak input test, you want
to hit the keys labelled ^a^v - this will actually input ^a^k.

[Bug 147495] (Gutsy?) Gnome keyboard layout switcher (Querty->Dvorak->Qwerty) not fully reversible (fails on ^D, ^E)

2007-10-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm running the latest (as of 20:00EST 30Sep07) Gutsy build on an IBM
Thinkpad T40.

I use a software-mapped Dvorak keyboard, and switch to QWERTY when I
want to play nethack, which is where I first noticed this bug. It seems
to effect all terminal applications, and may effect others as well. In
short, software-mapping to Dvorak, and then switching back to Qwerty,
doesn't fully remap the keyboard, and while I haven't exhaustively
examined every key combination to see what doesn't get remapped, the
ones I've found are pretty annoying.

Reproduction:
Create a new, clean user. Go to System/Preferences/Keyboard.
Layouts tab.
Keyboard model: Generic 101-key PC (not sure if this is important)
Press Add
Layout: U.S. English
Variant: Dvorak
Press Add
Now drag "U.S. English Dvorak" above "U.S. English" in the keyboard layout
list. It's the new default.
Press Close.

Now, add the Keyboard Indicator to one of your panels.
Log out. Log in.

The keyboard indicator should say "USA", and if you open a terminal and
strike left-to-right along the home row with your left hand, you should
read "aoeu". Hit ^a^k to kill this line.

Click on the keyboard indicator. It now says "USA2". When you type
along the home row again, you should see the familiar "asdf".

Here's where you should see breakage:
Hit ^A. The cursor will jump under the 'a'. Hit ^e. Where it should jump to
the end of the line, you'll probably see it insert a dot, or some other
nonsense. Hit ^d, and you'll see the cursor jump to the end of the line.

So clearly, everything's getting swapped in the remap back to Qwerty
except ^D and ^E, which are still in their Dvorak positions.

I don't know whse fault this is.
