[Bug 160410] Hangs and needs to be forcibly closed
Public bug reported: Now here's an interesting bug that I encountered when taking screenshots of specific windows and then opening my home folder where I had saved them. Nautilus completely hangs and, after a little work, I realised it was because of one of the images file names. I can confirm that a PNG with the following filename causes Nautilus to hang and that the only resolution is to rename the file in the terminal. [Bug 155732] Re: Leaving long message in gnome-screensaver locks system
Unfortunately I am unable to reproduce this bug with any reliability, so it could be dependent on a number of other factors such as free memory space or currently running programs. The screensaver does eventually return but upon exiting (by typing in password), Xorg uses 100% CPU and it's very difficult to use programs during this period. It can stay that way for a long time but can recover. I'd therefore suggest that this bug be closed as it's unlikely a user would find him/herself in this situation (unless you have colleagues who'd find it funny which is how I came across this). [Bug 160362] Ubuntu has some information for you.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Sometimes after upgrading system, an icon appears in the notification bar. A light bulb, if I recall correctly. With the icon comes the following message: Ubuntu has some information for you. (or something like that) It might have something to do with restarting Firefox after upgrade, but I cannot say for sure. I was watching a real user (not interested in hacking) use Ubuntu when this happened. The feature seems to cause a problem in user experience. - Why does Ubuntu suddenly have some information for me? - I didn't ask for any information. - (notification ignored) The feature seems to affect user as, if getting some information would be a use case. The message is similar to software that recommends you some entertainment, or advertises stuff to you. User does not realize the information is a system message or relevant in any way. It is just some information. People encounter all kinds of useless information everyday. Why would this some information be important to the user. I think this would be fixed by telling the user something like Maintenance required or Ubuntu needs your attention. That kind of a message tells user that it is Ubuntu that has a problem the user could solve. Not the other way around. Maybe an apology for the inconvenience would also be appropriate. ** Affects: notification-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ubuntu has some information for you. https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/160362 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for notification-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 3923] Re: Cannot change default character encoding
A permanent config for the character set would be very useful. It has long been a feature of PuTTY (Terminal Translation Chr Set). It would be best set in Profiles (similar to PuTTY's saved session) rather than globally, because its often required only for some specific purpose. The only way I have been able to do this so far, as suggested in http://osdir.com/ml/gnome.os.redhat/2002-10/msg00022.html, is to first setup the required locale eg: via: $ sudo locale-gen en_GB.ISO-8859-15 so that the new locale is listed by $ locale -a (as 'en_GB.iso885915'). Then I start GT like:- $ env LC_CTYPE=en_GB.ISO-8859-15 gnome-terminal ... --disable-factory But some of my Ubuntu's are resistant to enabling or using the new locale. Although it is listed by 'locale -a' as above, when I try to start GT as described above I get: gnome-terminal: 7773: ... locale not supported by C library. And yet I can select the same chr set from GT's Terminal Set Chr Encoding menu!? One of my GT's also shows its 'Current Locale' as 'ANSI_X3.4-1968' even though this is not listed by 'locale -a' at all!? [Bug 160410] Re: Hangs and needs to be forcibly closed
I followed the instructions however the problem does NOT occur when run through gdb. Odd, huh? I looked into it a bit myself though and I've discovered the bug only seems to appear in the user's home folder. I can view folders containing a file with that filename normally (including sub-folders of the user's home) provided they're not the home folder. It always occurs in the home folder though, with that filename. Try this to reproduce it. [1] Go to Places - Home Folder [2] If you don't already have a file called Screenshot-mIRC - [#zfgc (Windfyre, Solly) [20] [+nrt]: -=#=Z=F=G=C=- http:--www.zfgc.com- -=- Happy Non-Halloween! -=- Rules: http:--www.zfgc.com-chat- -=- http:--www.pp].png then rename an existing one to that now. Clusty : Some cell phones doesn't support browsing. Pairing and browsing are different things. I suggest you to look at the documentation of your cell phone or to test your cell phone on another computer to see if you can browse files on it, so you'll be sure that your problem is or isn't really a bug. Also, if you get problems with browsing, you can look if you can find another bug report which describe the same problem than yours ( because this one is more about not-installed-by-default gnome- vfs-obexftp ).
