[Bug 123495] Re: OpenOffice.org files do not open over SSH Gnome VFS share

2007-12-01 Thread Calvin Priest
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 41985 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41985

This bug has been around for a while, and I think it ought to be bumped
up a notch in priority, and here's why...

If it wasn't for this bug, I could recommend mapped gnomevfs-ssh folders
as a simple file-sharing arrangement that would work well for most
people most of the time. Setting up Samba can be complicated,
especially if you want to give write access for specific people to
specific folders, whereas mapping a gnomevfs-ssh connection is an
incredibly simple, secure, and even elegant solution...if only it didn't
crash Openoffice.

Thanks!

[Bug 173212] mixer applet cannot be unmuted in new session

2007-12-01 Thread James Westby
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Hi,

If I leave the mixer muted (with the mute control, rather than zeroing the
volume)
when I logout, when I next log in I cannot unmute the volume.

The icon shows muted, and the checkbox in the popup menu for mute is
selected. However selecting the checkbox to unmute it does not have
any effect: the sound is still muted, and the icon and checkbox still
indicate that.

I am able to unmute the sound by raising the volume using the slider
or the mouse wheel.

Thanks,

James

[Bug 165039] [suggestion] allow to pick non anti-aliased fonts un GNOME terminal

2007-12-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

1/ In the GNOME terminal settings, it is not possible to select a non
anti-aliased font by default.

I personally find this very annoying. Anti-aliased fonts are great for plenty
of things,
but for a terminal, I very much prefer a crisp, small, non anti aliased font.

OK, after tweaking a bit, it is possible to set up a non anti aliased font, but
it's definitely
not easy for newbies. I managed to use the MiscFixed font by looking at
information
posted here:

http://izumi.plan99.net/blog/index.php/2007/04/15/non-antialiased-fonts-
in-gnome-terminal/

I can't remember now exactly how I did it (it was a while ago) but I think I
needed
to reconfigure a font rendering package to allow for non anti aliased font.

With the non antialiased MiscFixed font, the GNOME terminal is also faster, and
allows
to chose a very small fonts (so I can put more terminals on the screen).

This is not a bug, but something on the wishlist. I think it's fairly important
though
because the GNOME terminal is one of the most important application of Ubuntu.

2/ As an additional remark, when selecting a font in the GNOME terminal, most of
the available fonts are non fixed size. I think it does not make much sense to
use
a non fixed font size in a terminal. It's also hard to spot the fixed font
size among
all the variable size fonts. Perhaps fixed font size should be somehow
highlighted,
or variable size fonts should perhaps even be filtered out by default (with a
checkbox
to allow them)

[Bug 74360] Several compose key combinations don't work

2007-12-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This is a Dapper bug.

While several compose key combinations do work (e.g. i + period for
idotless or c + comma for ccedilla) there are many that don't.

Bug #74344 (open and close double quotes) appears to be one example of
this.

In addition I have not been able to produce anything with a caron, breve
or ogonek, nor that L-slash thing you get in Polish, nor any fractions,
nor an emdash or an endash - at least not by the combinations listed at
http://webcvs.freedesktop.org/xorg/xc/nls/Compose/en_US.UTF-8?view=co
(e.g. 'a' + 'v' | 'g' + 'u' | 'u' + 'a' | 'L' + '-' | '1' + '2' | '-' +
'-' + '.' ). Most of these combinations don't produce any character at
all (only a brief flicker on the screen), except for the endash and
emdash combinations, which produce '-.' and '--' respectively.

I have tried a number of fonts, including arial and gentium. I know that
at lleast one of these characters works in these fonts because I was
able to paste a g-breve from a webpage into Abiword and change its font.

The problem occurs equally in Abiword and SeaMonkey.

I'm using Ubuntu Feisty in zh_CN locale. The Gnome panel clock does
provide an option to change the clock type between 12/24-hour, but it's

choose 12-hour as the clock type in Preferences of the panel clock. The
time is still represented as 23:45. Restarting X doesn't help.

I had a look at /usr/share/i18n/locales/zh_CN, and saw a line like this:

[Bug 173244] Gnome not logging out with Edubuntu LTSP as a thin client

2007-12-01 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

I log in into Gnome via LTSP client, no problem. I can execute applications
perfectly. I have been always able to log out then, and session ended with no
problem. But since I updated Edubuntu 7.10 with the latest patches, I couldn't
do it anymore.
When I press log out, nothing appears. Then, I'm not able to open any
application other than Firefox, as far as I know. No error message is printed
out. I have to manually switch off computer. It doesn't work, no matter which
user is selected.
Then, if I switch on computer again, I'm able to log in again using LTSP, but
the same error appears when trying to exit.
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace works stopping session, but then GDM is not starting again,
so that's the reason why I posted bug here.
Thanks!!

can you check if gdm is running on the server, and if gnome-power-manager is
running in the users session ?
the gnome logout dialog queries gnome-power-manager first for suspend hibernate
capabilities and also uses gdm-signal. if neither answers that can cause the
logout dialog to not appear.

2007-12-01 Thread Oliver Grawert
hmm, actually reading over what i wrote above seems a bit confusing so
let me rephrase that:

ltsp itself doesnt use gdm anywhere on the thin clients, logging in is
done via ldm which runs on the client.

gnome which runs in the session ldm has spawned *on the server* has some
functions that talk to the local gdm running on the server.
gdm itself has nothing to do with ltsp ... but with gnome and its session
handling in some areas.

[Bug 102495] Re: 'Always perform this action': Ignore for photo card option doesn't work.

2007-12-01 Thread Henrik Nilsen Omma
Ignore probably just cancels the whole action. I agree that the correct
behavior would be to remember that choice. Perhaps a separate Cancel
button should be provided for 'Do nothing this once'.

This bug was nominated for Gutsy but does currently not qualify for a 7.10
stable release update (SRU) and the nomination is therefore declined.
According the the SRU policy, the fix should already be deployed and tested in
the current development version before an update to the stable releases will be
considered. With 7.10 now released, that policy applies to this bug. See:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates .
The bug is not being closed as work will continue on fixing it for the next
release, Hardy Heron (8.04). If the state of this bug should change such that
it qualifies for the SRU process, please contact the person who originally
declined it and ask them to re-evaluate it. To help improve the state of this
bug see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToTriage .

[Bug 173282] Bookmarks : inconsistent behaviour

2007-12-01 Thread Trouilliez vincent
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I noticed in Gutsy, that depending on whether I am in a Nautilus browser
window, or a File chooser dialog, that the action required to open a
bookmark located in the Places area, is not the same. This
inconsistency obviously hurts usability.

In the file chooser, it takes only a single click to open a bookmark,
whereas in Nautilus it takes a double click.

I must admit that I quite like the single click, as it's faster and less tiring
for my finger to produce a single click than a double click (not to mention
that it produces less noise... I like silence ;-)...
Regardless of my own liking, I think it ought to be made consistent in any
case, whichever behaviour is decided on, single or double click.

[Bug 173285] Emblems of Human theme is too small

2007-12-01 Thread Pramod Dematagoda
Public bug reported:

The emblems of the Human theme are too small. While I do know the
solution for this, this would not really work well with a person who is
a real beginner to Ubuntu. So since the solution is rather simple, I
urge that the Ubuntu developers try and fix this small problem as it
could blotch Hardy Heron's reputation if it affected all the beginners
to Ubuntu.

[Bug 93396] Re: File save dialog delets filename when changing directory

2007-12-01 Thread Trouilliez vincent
Hi there, yet another victim of this bug speaking ! ;-)
Just to add my voice... I experienced that problem first time in Feisty, still
there in Gutsy, and yes... very annoying it is.
Everytime I want to save a file from the Web using Epyphany (my typical use
case), I have to first copy the file name into the clipboard, then browse to
the directory where I want to save the file... file name gets deleted, then I
can restore the file name from the clipboard.

[Bug 173298] totem avi playback over sshfs becomes scrambled if you pause and then resume playback

2007-12-01 Thread Jim Robert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I was watching an avi video file located on a file server, mounted using
the connect to server... option under the places menu. The server is
an ssh server (openssh) and is connected to my local network. It works
fine for normal operation, but if I pause the video playback and then
resume, the video becomes scrambled, though the audio continues
normally.

The problem persists even if I close totem and reopen the file, and it
is reproducible with all the other divx encoded avi files in this batch.
Not all DivX MS-MPEG-4 Version 3 files will do this though. I heard DivX
support on linux has problems (because it's reverse engineered) so maybe
that is the problem. I posted a screenshot at http://mixtake.com/images
/Totem-avi-problem.png

Here is some data on the specific file I was playing:

[Bug 173297] after update XVID won

2007-12-01 Thread ShavedMyDog
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Last week my Ubuntu installation was able to play xvid (like the whole
last year).

Now after several updates it is not possible anymore.

Totem: Video codec 'XviD' is not handled. You might need to install additional
plugins to be able to play some types of movies
Other video-players like kaffeine, gxine and mplayer are having the same
problem.

Avidemux is still able to read xvid.

w32codec and xvid are installed.

[Bug 173298] more details

2007-12-01 Thread Jim Robert
after more testing, I noticed it only happens if you leave it paused for
a while... a few minutes at least. I think it may have to do with the
connection timing out. if you close totem and wait ~the same amount of
time and then reopen the file from nautilus the problem doesn't reoccur.
I guess that's a result of caching.

I attached the screenshot from my last post

sometimes keeps running until console completly fills but it'll run
extremely slow. It'll sometimes recover after game ends. My swap was

[Bug 173297] Re: after update XVID won

2007-12-01 Thread ShavedMyDog

some additional infos:
- tv playback in kaffeine works
- mpeg2 playback works

- reinstalled w32codec / xvid / gxine / kaffeine / mplayer = no result
- installed gstreamer*xvid*something = installation worked = xvid playback
still does not work

this looks really strange to me, it seems like only xvid is broken. It
would be nice if someone figures out what I can try to fix this - I have
recorded a lot of stuff from tv and converted to xvid - which can't be
watched any more

[Bug 160984] Re: gdm should not use locale settings from /etc/environment

2007-12-01 Thread Henning Moll
The problem ist, that at the moment it is neccessary to have the locale
definition in two different places:

/etc/environment
/etc/default/locale

This is redundant and confusing.

the first is used by gdm (and therefore for the whole gnome-session), for
example.
the later is used by /etc/pam.d/login (in addition to /etc/environment, but
/etc/default/locale wins). If you login in a tty, for example.

So the problem is, that LANG has to be adjusted in both places to
successfully switch from one locale to another.

Now, that debian policy says not to use /etc/environmnt all programms
should use /etc/default/locale instead, shouldn't they?

197,198,... works here. It is the same problem with Acrobat reader.
Maybe it is a driver problem ( I have an HP Laserjet 4L and use the
recommended HP LaserJet 4L Foomatic/ljet4 driver ).

2007-12-01 Thread Benjamin Roch
I tried now to first print the selection to a PDF file and then print
that file (which just contains the selected pages) - It works this way.
Hope this can help

[Bug 173349] if a pop up appear when resizing a window, the mouse is unusable

2007-12-01 Thread KRS
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

If a pop up (or another app window) appear when you are dragging another window
border (like resizing window or resizing a column) the new window take the
focus but the cursor still keep the double-arrow mode. So you cant do
anything with the mouse.
The only way to recover is to close the new window with keyboard shortcut,
retrieve the origin window, finish dragging, then the cursor return to the
normal arrow state.

This happen with Feisty and Gutsy.

[Bug 165271] Re: Keep displacement bars when changing pages

2007-12-01 Thread Nanday
Ok, I'll try my best to make myself understood (english is not my mother
tongue, so please, be patient with my not-so-fluent english).

A lot of times I'm skimming through laws, and they (in Spain at least)
use to be printed in the same layout: two columns, with broad margins o
both sides. (See attachment one).

I use to read them zooming in, so I can keep the window with Evince
quite small. It usually looks like that. (See attachment two). The
scroll bar of the bottom is nearly on its right most position, and when
I hit the Next page in Evince, the scroll bar gets displaced to the
left-most position. (See attachment three). It is obviously useful in
some kinds of documents, but in others, it can get really annoying.

I think that a checkbox, where you can select the behavior of the
scrollbars as you switch pages would be a great addition in future
versions of Evince. At least, I'd love it. :)

I hope this time I explained myself better. :) Apologies for any mistake
with english.

P.D.: Can I write this reports in spanish?
