Re: [Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup

2007-12-19 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
That's what I have too, but I think if you comment out the part where it
picks between ccp and gconf, and you use ccp, then you don't get any of the
advanced configuration stuff. Actually, if you don't let either load, it'd
probably just freak out and not load because it wouldn't have any settings.

On Dec 19, 2007 4:34 AM, shz [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

COMPIZ_PLUGINS=$COMPIZ_PLUGINS ccp
 elif [ -f ${PLUGIN_PATH}libgconf.so ]; then

[Bug 176822] Re: unable to login after updates

2007-12-19 Thread Tero Tilus
Could be dupe of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/150471 .
However, I'm not quite sure, because 150471 was about nautilus not
shutting down properly after session. I get it hanging on first login
and it is not occasional, it is constant (well, 150471 is for many too).

I currently have a clean working gutsy and am running updates almost
one-by-one to find out what exactly blows it up. When I blow it up
again, I'll be able to compare to symptoms reported on 150471 and try
out the patch.

[Bug 177246] Re: Play time for Mahjong is wrong.

2007-12-19 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 176318] Re: X applications crash after upgrade

2007-12-19 Thread min
I removed the symbolic link /usr/local/lib/libfreetype.so.6, which is
added by the package libfreetype6. Should this symbolic link perhaps be
removed from libfreetype6? Or perhaps only the path is wrong
(/usr/local/lib/libfreetype.so.6 - libfreetype.so.6.3.2, note: no path
to libfreetype.so.6.3.2). But changing the link to
/usr/local/lib/libfreetype.so.6 - /usr/local/lib/libfreetype.so.6.3.2

Re: [Bug 150334] Re: Workspaces only in 1 row although set to be in 2 rows

2007-12-19 Thread Sylvain
Yes I can reproduce the same with another user. It thought it began with the
setup of brightside. But when I don't use it, neither does it work
correctly. It was quite unstable at some stage and the two rows
configuration was working from a reboot to another. But now it is completely
stable: I can't have the two rows whatever I do.

I'll try again with a new user, step by step, and see what happens, and
when...

2007/12/19, Pedro Villavicencio [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Can you tell us a few steps in order to trigger the bug? May you test if
you can reproduce the same with another new user on your machine?

[Bug 177455] Wishlist: baobab: network drives show user quota if available

2007-12-19 Thread Jan Groenewald
Public bug reported:

General usability comment in a multiuser network-fs environment:

In a network quota environment, users are confused when they have
500M quota but Disk Usage Analyzer says 555G free.

Can baboab check whether the command quota exists, and use its output
for the current user if it does, and if it refers to /home/?

Also:

Scan home *always* shows a full red bar at the top if sorted by size.
Even if a user is using 1% of their quota. The red looks like they are already
over quota or using up all the quota.

2007-12-19 Thread P G Francis
Public bug reported:

After installing English, UK language support, the year value in the

[Bug 177460] Re: Invalid date value

2007-12-19 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 164804] Re: Gnome Login Error

2007-12-19 Thread karlward
I had a similar problem on Fedora 7, which I worked-around by adding a
line to /etc/gdm/PostSession/Default . The line I added is:

[ -d /tmp/orbit-$USER ] rm -Rf /tmp/orbit-$USER

Basically, the /tmp/orbit-username/linc-* files were persisting after
the X/GDM session had ended. This was causing the problems with GNOME
applets.

This is a workaround, not a fix. It may cause unexpected behavior when
you have concurrent logins as the same user.

After installing English, UK language support, the year value in the

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a
new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic
retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 132612] Re: memory leak in evince?

2007-12-19 Thread tweedledee
In regards to Jesse's comment: I tested a few files on my computer and
noticed the same sort of pattern using Gutsy. If I use a PDF that has
embedded fonts, Evince works fine; a 7 MB PDF uses 20-40 MB of RAM as I
scroll many times throughout the document, depending mostly on when
figures are loaded in memory. This is still much higher than xpdf, but
Evince is also much faster, so that's fine. If I open pdf files that
are scanned, the problem is much worse: a 10 MB file starts at a minimum
of 50 MB and spikes to 100 MB as a I scroll a little. Moreover, as I
scroll many times throughout the document, the memory use starts to
creep up, and I kill evince and reload when it reaches ~700 MB (which
required scrolling between two distant (100 pages apart) points maybe 50
times). I keep a memory System Monitor on my panel and close Evince
before it starts to page too badly, so I've not noticed the lockups
others have reported.

This was not a problem in Feisty - the memory usage on similar files was
in the same initial range, but this gradual creep to fill all available
RAM did not occur. As a great many pdfs do not have properly embedded
fonts and I regularly scroll multiple times through files, this is a
major problem. I'd like to find a solution other than installing
Acrobat Reader. (kripkenstein: unfortunately I'm only using my primary
machine at the moment, so don't want to test your patch in the event of
a major side effect.) Keeping multiple copies of Evince running on the
same file solves the memory creep problem, but if I need more than 3-4
copies open at once to view different locations, then the total memory
usage is still very high.

For what it's worth, I'm using the open source ati driver on a fresh
Gutsy install with 1 GB RAM and same size swap.

[Bug 129396] Re: new windows are put in the background

2007-12-19 Thread Paul James
I think I've come across the same bug (without focus-follows-mouse, with
using compiz).

Open a Nautilus window to a directory of images, open one in eog. Eog
launches and gains focus as expected. Then re-focus Nautilus and open
another image, a new eog window appears behind Nautilus (presuming
Nautilus is in the centre of the screen). This only occurs if an
existing eog window is open and it does not appear to occur when not
using compiz.

If I experience the loop again I will update this report otherwise I
