[Bug 36544] Re: suggest to install the proper package if a plugin is missing

2008-01-14 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
I would say that Firefox is now Fixed.

Epiphany is not. I just tested Hardy Alpha 3. Gobuntu uses epiphany by
default, so I tested this. Epiphany still exhibits this bug ( also
mentioned in Bug #32294 - that bug has an upstream link to
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=301465 ).

The goals of
http://live.gnome.org/Epiphany/FeatureDesign/PluginInstallation would
seem to be achieved by creating an epiphany add-on that provided the
equivalent functionality to that already present in Firefox.

[Bug 182799] Evolution: Messages aren't deleted from POP mail server with SSL encryption after specified number of days

2008-01-14 Thread Amit Tendulkar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution doesn't delete an email from the POP3 email server (with SSL
encryption) after a specified number of days and the mailbox quota on
the server gets full.

Steps to reproduce
- Configure a POP3 email account with
  - Server type: POP
  - SSL encryption
  - Auth type as password
- Under Edit-Preferences-select account name-Edit-receiving
options-Message storage
  - Keep Leave messages on the server as ON
  - Keep Delete after X days as ON and put say 5 days in place of X
  - Keep Disable support for all POP3 extensions as OFF
- Make sure that the server name and account details provided in the above
setup contains more than five days old emails and the server also has a
web-interface (or IMAP interface) to cross-check the presence of emails on the
server
- Do a send-receive of emails from the account
- Make sure the old emails are fetched in your local Inbox
- After send-receive, log on to the web interface or connect through an IMAP
interface to check whether the emails older than 5 days are deleted from the
server

Expected result
- The old emails should be deleted from the server

Actual result
- The old emails are not deleted and remain on the server.

Evolution version used: evolution 2.12.1
OS: Ubuntu 7.10
uname -a output: Linux lap432 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Dec 18 08:02:57 UTC

[Bug 182805] Memo previews are blanked every minute

2008-01-14 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

The preview of a memo is blanked every minute. This is really annoying
when you have a memo that it takes more than a minute to read. You'll
have to select the memo in the memo list for it to be visible again, but
then you've spent some time already, so once you've opened it again and
found the place in the text where you were cut off, it's blanked again.
This happens every minute at the same second.

[Bug 155935] Re: do not print by transparent printer esc[5i and [4i

2008-01-14 Thread corrado22
How do I do Transparent or pass-through printing (slave printing)?
Many terminals, and just about all terminal emulators, have the ability to do
local printing. It's sometimes called transparent printing or
pass-through, but the idea is that if the terminal sees a special key
sequence, it will start sending the data out some other port (parallel or
serial) until it sees some sequence that tells it to stop.
You can find the start-stop sequences in /etc/termcap: PN is the sequence to
start local print; PS is the sequence to stop. For example, if you look at the
vt100 entry, you'll see:
:PN=\E[5i:PS=\E[4i:\
If you have a graphical printer on the linux lan, you can print the text file
by ( for example ) gtklp program called by gnome-terminal!!!.
I hope this is more clair.
Thank you.

[Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup

2008-01-14 Thread Romano Giannetti
Hi all,

I have a very similar problem. After a bit of digging I found an entry
for 127.0.1.1 (notice: .1.1, not .0.1) in my /etc/hosts. I commented it
and now the gnome starts fast like in Feisty.

But: why that entry is needed? localhost is on 127.0.0.1, no? Since
1986, no :-)?

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2008-01-14 Thread Manuel Iglesias Alonso
I think nautilus has done its thing in front of my very nose!

First I want to confirm I have noticed all the symptoms mentioned here:
-Occassionally nautilus grabs almost 100% CPU.
-When I kill it, trackerd in turn grabs CPU.
-There are more chances nautilus goes berserk if it is run as root (gksu).
-Nautilus writes enormous nautilus-debug-log.txt files with the useless message:
0x8177510 2008/01/14 11:18:03.2623 (USER): debug log dumped due to signal 11
Note: My system also has dual processor (Pentium IV hyperthreading) and, when
nautilus grabs the CPU, it alternates using both CPUs.

Let's go to the crime's scene:
-I had two nautilus' windows open one as normal user (manolo) and another as
root using my own version of gksu: XSu.
-One of the windows was showing /home/manolo/.local/share/applications, the
other (running as root) /home/manolo2/.local/share/applications.
-I had copied a file from first to second window.
-In a console (running as root), I then ran 'chown -R manolo2:manolo2
/home/manolo2/.local' to change ownership of the file just copied.
-Immediately the root-running nautilus' window went blank.
-I ran gnome-system-monitor and nautilus was using 80-90% CPU alternately from
each CPU.
-I found a nautilus-debug-log.txt in /root with current date-time.
-In the root console, I killed the berserk nautilus instance with 'kill -9
29473'.

So are you saying that the reason we don't ship the help for Gimp is that
it's too big to fit on the CDs?

It's unfortunate to ship such a complex application without its
documentation. Perhaps we should change Gimp to link to the online version

I just tried it, and it does seem to have the capability to fall back, but
displays a confusing dialog first.

Re: [Bug 182744] Re: unable to play DVDs or view movie clips in mozilla

2008-01-14 Thread barbara
I go to www.blockbuster.com and click on the movie, just like I always
do on my windows computer. I have tried several movies and none of them
will show. Here is a URL of the first movie showing that I clicked on:
http://www.blockbuster.com/catalog/movieDetails/34642
Then this is the message it gives me when I check on any of the
connection speeds:
Please update to the latest player version
for best performance (It has Windows media player and Real Player as
choices listed there)
My goal is to transition from Windows to Linux, but I am trying to make
sure that I can do all the same things before making a final transition.
I just installed this recently. I have some other issues too. Should I
repost them or mention it in a follow-up email to you? Thanks for your
help.

[Bug 182381] Re: 8 of hearts 8 of diamonds 2 of clubs dont equal 21

2008-01-14 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Well, it has not happened ever since, but then again I have not had a
quick mp3 browsing session again since that time.

I will try with hardy alpha 3 one of these days.

[Bug 44874] Re: auto smbfs mount in /etc/fstab causes hald hang at boot

2008-01-14 Thread wbaguhn
replacing smbfs with cifs in fstab seemed to help for me. Long
waits at boot time went away and the filesystem seems available.
Manually mounting the filesystem every boot wasn't an option, because
servers are supposed to be available automagically. (Dapper under
VMWare)
