[Bug 189509] [NEW] Desktop Appearances Properties crashes repeatedly - gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in XSetCloseDownMode()

2008-02-06 Thread Motin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

This is a fully (for me at least) reproducable crash. Steps to
reproduce:

Right-click on desktop - Change wallpaper - Crash within a minute or
some seconds

This bug invalidates Bug #187337 which is the same but for which I
wasn't sure what I was doing when the crash happens. Turned out that
nothing needs to be done but wait after having launched gnome-
appearance-properties.

[Bug 189514] [NEW] [Hardy Alpha3] Auto mount points of disk partitions changing with each boot

2008-02-06 Thread Slash123
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hi,

Am using Ubuntu Hardy (Alpha 3 through updates) and the nautilus version
is 1:2.21.90-0ubuntu3.

My hard disk is partitioned into 3 other partitions apart from the
ubuntu and swap partitions. These get mounted by nautilus automatically
and appear on my desktop labelled as 'disk', disk1' and 'disk2' along
with their sizes. The problem is that these labels change arbitrarily at
each boot. This became a problem when I pointed transmission to download
a torrent to a location on one drive, and on the next boot, transmission
started from scratch and started downloading to another drive.

I understand that I should have labelled these drives, but didnt have
any problems with this until now.

My suggestion is that nautilus should mount these drives according to
the appearance in the partition table (/dev/sda1 - disk, /dev/sda2 -
disk1, /dev/sda3 - disk2, and so on, skipping the ubuntu and swap
partitions of course).

Thanks!

[Bug 189487] [NEW] thumbnails are not generated for all flv files

2008-02-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Currently using Hardy, some flash files (.flv) do not have thumbnails in
nautilus. Also, those files that fail to thumbnail take a long period
of time before they are skipped. This is a regression, as in previous
versions of Ubuntu these same files would have thumbnails in nautilus.

I don't think there is anything special about the files in general, they
_are_ flv's saved from youtube.

I can provide this if its of any use:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gst-launch-0.10 -t filesrc location=/media/hdb5/My\
Videos/YouTube/Nirvana\ -\ basement\ jam.flv ! decodebin ! fakesink

If a copy of a flv is required to find the cause i would be happy to

[Bug 189517] [NEW] Open/save file dialog places wrong

2008-02-06 Thread David Balažic
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

Ubuntu 8.04 alpha 4 i386 desktop CD

In gparted, after performing an operation, I clicked save Details in the
Applying pending operations dialog.
The Save Details file dialog offered root and the filesystems in the Places
list on the left.
No Desktop, Documents and such.

I saved the (HTML) file to root.

Then I wanted to open this file in Firefox, by selecting menu File / Open
file... in firefox. Its Open File dialog had the following items in Places
:
Search
Recently Used
Desktop
rofs
cdrom
(the filesystems: disk partitions and one USB key)
Documents
Music

Videos

No root. Not even under Recently Used. Or any other item. (I did not try

[Bug 189540] [NEW] Drive rename and change icon operations always fail in Nautilus

2008-02-06 Thread Irios
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Reporting a problem found in Nautilus 2.20.0 in Ubuntu 2007.10

RightClick-Properties on a drive icon in the Computer view, and a popup
pops up offering the drive name in an editable field already selected.
Seemingly, changing the name there should change the name of the drive
or partition. However, whatever name is set, when the popup is closed,
the user is offered another popup with the following message:

The element could not be renamed. Sorry, it was not possible to rename
Absurd preset name to Sensible descriptive name

And, of course, the drive name remains as it was before.

Similarly, clicking on the icon offers a file chooser to select the
icon. After following the *tortuous* way to finding and choosing an
alternative action, clicking on open also fails, with the chooser
closing with no error message but Nautilus still showing the original
icon.

Using Nautilus as the superuser with gksudo nautilus does not improve
the situation.

[Bug 189537] [NEW] Change file icon action opens file chooser far from icons

2008-02-06 Thread Irios
Public bug reported:

All naive (and most savvy) users will find it extremely hard to find
icons to customize the appearance of an entry in Nautilus.

When the entry is right clicked, the properties popup shows the present
icon as a button that has to be clicked on in order to choose a new
icon. Whether that is obvious enough or not is not the problem, however.
The problem is that clicking on the button, far from offering a sensible
set of icons to choose from, simply opens a file chooser poiniting at
the user's home page.

I'd venture than less than 1% of the users will be able to find that the
alternative icons hang in a confusing jumbled tree from
/usr/share/icons.

Possible solution:
The file chooser should open on the relevant subdirectory of the
usr/share/icons tree, if possible in a pictorial view of the icons instead of a
dry list of files.

[Bug 189541] [NEW] Nautilus will not open directories

2008-02-06 Thread Geoff Kaniuk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 7.10 - Gutsy Gibbon mainly
successfully.

I have suddenly started seeing the following problem:

1. Launch Nautilus via PlacesHome Folder
2. As expected I see the top level of the file system.
3. Double click Home Folder - it expands showing my list of directories.
4. Double click any directory - it expands but won't show any files at all.
5. On the status bar at the bottom of the window it correctly reports the
number of files in the directory.

The Nautilus version is 2.20.0

I have checked that the files are listed in Terminal and I can get to
them via applications. Rebooting failed to cure the problem.

Re: [Bug 188288] Re: NautilusMenuItemDetails not defined in header file

2008-02-06 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
2008/2/6, Sebastien Bacher [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Could you mail the nautilus-list to get their comments on the change?

Hello dear Nautilus masters :-)

I have recently opened a bug on Launchpad and Gnome Bug tracker which
is more a code organization issue than an improvement.

Here is the description of the bug :
quote
Hello,

I wanted to patch nautilus-action to add submenu support to it and I
noticed that the struct _NautilusMenuItemDetails is not available in any
of the nautilus extension headers. A search on the web showed me that it
has been defined in the nautilus-menu-item.c source file. So we need to
move it from this file to the header file. Otherwise it's not possible
to use this struct in an external code.

I have already made a patch.
Best Regards
/quote

So basically, Sebastien wanted to know what you think about this bug
and patch before applying it to Ubuntu.
I have attached the same patch to the Gnome Bug .

Gnome bug : http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=513854
Launchpad bug : https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/188288

So basically the patch is just a move of a struct out of the source
*.c file to the header.
There is another struct that is defined in that source file but that
is commented as Private in the header, so I didn't move it.

Longing for your answer ...
Best Regards
Aziz

[Bug 189561] Re: [Hardy] Nautilus crash during Google-Earth installation

2008-02-06 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
