[Bug 195705] [NEW] Hardy Alpha5: Totem crashes when switching between streams (radio channels )
Public bug reported: Hello, I have some Norwegian radio channels which I listen to via the Totem media player. Sometimes Totem crashes when I switch to a new radio channel (stream). I normally use the Streamtuner application to keep track of radio channel names their URLs. Streamtuner also starts the Totem media player to play the stream when I select a channel. See picture picture_1: http://www.futuredesktop.org/images/gutsy/picture_8c.jpg and picture_2: http://www.edbl.no/tmp/hardy/alpha5/streamtuner.png The error is: Totem crashes when I switch from radio URL NRK Alltid Nyheter ( http://radio.hiof.no/nrk-alltid-nyheter-172.ogg ) to Kanal 24 ( mms://live.alleredge.com/AE_Kanal24_High ). If I restart the Kanal 24 couple of times, Totem will most likely crash and disappears from the desktop. It just quits without error message. Streamtuner is totally irrelevant here. So I created a tiny shell script that feeds two URLs to the Totem media player. It makes Totem crash repeatedly (every time). Here is the script: http://www.edbl.no/tmp/hardy/alpha5/radio1.sh Get it: $ wget http://www.edbl.no/tmp/hardy/alpha5/radio1.sh Run it $ sh radio1.sh Totem will most likely crash when the script sends it the URLs. The question is: Why does not Totem tolerate fast switching from one stream URL to another? This is a very tiny bug (if bug at all), but it still needs an explanation ;-) Additional information: Here is my streamtuner settings (files) with some radio streams to test with. Do $ sudo apt-get install streamtuner streamripper $ cd $HOME $ wget http://www.edbl.no/tmp/hardy/alpha5/streamtuner.tar $ tar -xvf streamtuner.tar Start it $ streamtuner # Note: Streamtuner is old and hardly maintained anymore. 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem: Rhythmbox is left on pause for 1-2 hours in the middle of a file played from an sftp-server. 2. the behavior you expected: I expect Rhythmbox to continue playing the file and continue with the next one, and otherwise behave normaly. 3. the behavior you actually encountered: First i notice that Rhythmbox starts using all available cpu. [Bug 190366] Re: Nautilus does not identify partitions, except by size
Think it comes down to how ugly we want that specific piece of code to be and it's pretty ugly now. Once we start querying for hardware device names and such in there it's only going to get even uglier, as we'll have to start dealing with lots of special cases on top of what it does now. I believe the HAL key that returns a name like Corsair USB Memory is info.product on the relevant volume, however, this is even more ugly for internally mounted drives (with the key giving us something like Volume; imagine instead of having a bunch of links to Volume instead of 500.1GB Media, you'd be playing Roulette every time you needed a file, not that this isn't the case now if you've got lots of like-sized drives). I wouldn't be totally against it checking to see if we could get a better name from the info.product key, but in all likelihood it's not going to be very helpful as the USB key companies like to set the volume labels on their devices (though you're out of luck if you've reformatted it), and you'd still need to guard against displaying e.g Volume which is worse than 500.1GB Media. It would also be nice if Nautilus exposed some way of modifying the volume label, but there are way more important things on the schedule right now to be fixed, so this is probably an Ibex goal. It would also be a rather complicated and nasty fix, and would require lots of utilities that don't ship with the regular install (as seen on the Renaming page above), being a super-user, and unmounting the volume, or faking it via a .autorun/.desktop file (my preferred way, as you could give the volume an icon and decide whether or not the mount should be shown by Nautilus, etc), or something else I can't think of. -- Nautilus does not identify partitions, except by size https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190366 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 194540] Re: Gnome-panel eats about 80 percent cpu
I figured out what's going wrong. I found some other bug reports which addresses the same issue. The problem starts when you create a panel on the left side. Per default the panel is only 23 dots (pixel), but you can't see the Images. In this case all is OK. But you want to see the Images, to know which apps are open. So you change the properties to minimum 30 pixel, you can see all apps are opend with a fancy icon in th panel. When you open more than 7 applications the gnome-panel freezes. Killing the task didn't help until you reduce the count of apps to max = 7. Btw, : how can I install the sources to fix this problem directly, When enabling the sources check box in synaptic I can only install the gnome- panel-dbg but no source code. -- Gnome-panel eats about 80 percent cpu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194540 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 195672] [NEW] When I save a file a second file is created
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi I am fairly new to Ubuntu and this is my first bug report. I find this ubuntu forum very difficult to navigate and perhaps this bug is already known - I tried to search for this bug and cannot find one listed so I am opening this one. Here is my problem : Every time I open a text document and I want to type something in it, I can do so. But when I then decided to type something new into my file, I of course want to save the info , so I go file -save. The file IS saved; but it also creates a second file in whatever folder I am in, and now I have two of them. If I go into either of these two files, and type anything , and then hit save , I will end up with THREE files! It is highly annoying and I keep having to delete the duplicate files. Can some one please tell me how to solve this problem, I think I am using release 7.1 of Gutsy Gibbon thank you ,Kev ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- When I save a file a second file is created https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195672 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 195672] Re: When I save a file a second file is created
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report and subsequently we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at [WWW] https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs.
