Hi, I'm also on Hardy and have all the updates installed. An update that i did a couple of days back triggered this issue. Unless there's a change in the state of the battery (either plug in AC power/remove AC), there's no change in the battery state that is displayed in the batter applet in the system tray. For e.g.: I had my laptop running on battery and then plugged in to AC power. At that time 57% of the battery had been discharged and that is the state that is shown on the batter applet till now. Re: [Bug 81608] Re: Please use DejaVu Sans Condensed as the default font
I think it's a difficult issue. DejaVu Sans is a very good font, as is DejaVu Sans Condensed. The former has the advantage of being more extended, which aids readability, and the latter might be slightly more elegant and allows for more information to be shown on the screen. In any case, a consensus is necessary for such a massive change to occur. Changing the default font is not something that's decided very easily. It will affect every single user in a significant way. A font can make or break the communication with the user, after all. So maybe the right way to go about this change is to start a public debate on the issue. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 175602 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175602 *** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: Binary package hint: alacarte Hardy amd64 wanted to check the program associated with 'manage user and groups' by viewing the properties from main-menu. Here the line in 'sudoers: Defaults !lecture,tty_tickets,!fqdn,targetpw,timestamp_timeout = 0 This definitely is a severe security issue, because it is absolutely useless to ask a user a second time for his password to gain administrative rights (he already logged in with the same PW). [Bug 196464] [NEW] After gdm upgrade no X cliens can be run
Public bug reported: This is daily upgraded hardy (32 bit). It seems for me at least that after a gdm upgrade (but probably it's gdm related but something else?) no X programs can be run anymore. For example if I try to run xterm from an already existing terminal window I got: No protocol specified xterm Xt error: Can't open display: :0.0 If I try to 'strace' xterm, I see this: socket(PF_FILE, SOCK_STREAM, 0) = 3 connect(3, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path=/tmp/.X11-unix/X0}, 110) = 0 getpeername(3, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path=/tmp/.X11-unix/X0}, [20]) = 0 uname({sys=Linux, node=vega, ...}) = 0 access(/tmp/.gdmVNZW6T, R_OK) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied) So, I've checked /tmp/.gdmVNZW6T: -rw--- 1 root root 115 2008-02-28 10:32 /tmp/.gdmVNZW6T It seems something alters the ownership of this file to root, so it's not surprising I can't open it with this permission as non-root. After chown'ing back to my user, everything works. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo chown lgb:lgb /tmp/.gdmVNZW6T [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -la /tmp/.gdmVNZW6T -rw--- 1 lgb lgb 115 2008-02-28 10:32 /tmp/.gdmVNZW6T Now, I can run X programs without problem. This issue occurs quite frequently, as far as I remember after upgrades. gdm version is 2.20.3-0ubuntu5. Please note, that I'm not sure it's caused by gdm or other package though ... ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- After gdm upgrade no X cliens can be run https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/196464 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

This problem is still alive... I have just setup upbuntu 7.10 (screen = 1024x768) and evolution version is 2.12.1. The evolution windows are to big for the screen an it is not possible to down size them. Because i did not find this bug number i have opened a question (#25748 in German) yesterday. It is sad to see that this problem seems to exist since 2004-09-30, because this was the first posting? The program works fine so far and it was easy to set up a e-mail account p. e. So it is a pity that there are trouble with having the windows in a proper size. Which has nothing to do with the goal of this program... Other programs than evolution (firefox p.e.) do not has problems with the sizing of windows. I hope there will be a resolution soon, because ubuntu as well as evolution pleases me. [Bug 194725] [NEW] network-admin can only be used once
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools Setting up manual network configuration using network-manager can only be done once - the second time I try to use network-admin to change the configuration (for example - to return an interface to roaming mode), I get an error: The configuration could not be saved You are not allowed to modify the system configuration. To reproduce: 1. start Ubuntu 2. log in as a user with administrator capabilities 3. start network-admin by clicking the network manager icon and choosing manual configuration. 4. use unlock button on the network-admin dialog, and type the user's password 5. change something, save and close. 6. start network-admin again and unlock it again 7. try to change something - an error appears. This is with current Hardy alpha (updated 22.8.2008). The only way that I could find to get network-admin to work again is to reboot the computer. ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs (desktop-bugs) Status: Incomplete -- network-admin can only be used once https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/194725 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Bug 196506] [NEW] Compiz forgets plugins when disabled and reenabled
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: compiz Effects: (my) Hardy-latest To replicate: - Start with compiz loaded with some settings (wobbly windows, animations, etc). - Open up Appearance Preferences from the desktop and click the Visual Effects tab. - Change the radio to None, then back to Extra. - You should now have compiz loaded, just with no chosen plugins. I have to disable Compiz for some fullscreen applications and games so this is thoroughly annoying for me. [Bug 146288] Re: EOG can't read XMP tags created with F-SPOT
Just a comment to antistress I'm testing from the latest hardy livecd. And your keyword does not show up. It looks like your image contains this in the xmp.Subject field. $ exiftool -xmp:all DSC_0407-2.JPG Subject : vacances, Saint-Tropez If I copy the tags from this image to a copy of the same image with exiftool -tagsfromfile DSC_0407-2.JPG DSC_0407-2-copy.JPG they are visible in eog under the Keyword tag. If I just write the same tags like this exiftool -xmp:Subject=vacances, Saint-Tropez DSC_0407-2.JPG They are also visible in eog. [Bug 196506] Re: Compiz forgets plugins when disabled and reenabled
Thanks for the tip there Travis. That does indeed solve my problem, but a few questions: 1. Don't you think that implicitly wiping settings like that is a little confusing for people that don't know about it? Wouldn't a reset config button make a lot more sense? 2. Shouldn't normal and extra have some plugins enabled by default? 3. Why hide custom in its own package? It seems like it was much simpler when you just had custom there all the time and the link to ccsm next to it. Oh (and this might be known) the Appearance Preferences/Visual Effects panel never remembers that you have a custom layout - always showing Extra selected by default. -- Compiz forgets plugins when disabled and reenabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/196506 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
