[Bug 199960] Re: error starting GNOME Settings Daemon

2008-03-17 Thread Ryan Steele
Hi Zaki, you need to add the ddebs.ubuntu.com repositories. The
instructions are here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash.

In reading https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace I noted that I neglected to
do an info registers. I've done one more backtrace following those
instructions and attached it.

+ Adjust build-depends and depends fields as per configure.in
+ Fix watch file to work again, and fix GNOME_DOWNLOAD_URL in

10_intltools-merge_fix.diff as no longer needed any more.
  * Refine debian/copyright to have copyright holder and text.
  * Follow Debian Python Policy to avoid residues after purge. Details:
+ Bump cdbs build-depends to = 0.4.49.
+ Add python-support to build-depend in control file.
+ Add XS-Python-Version and XB-Python-Version fields in control file.
+ Run 'dh_pysupport -pgdesklets' in binary-post-install/gdesklets

[Bug 198531] Re: Connecting to SSH or Samba server gives The specified location is not mounted error

2008-03-17 Thread Gavindi
I personally wouldn't want a bookmark for a one-time open of a remote location.
I know that bookmarking is what we have to do as the momentary fix but we need
this fixed upstream. If you look at the upstream activity
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=520390), there has been some
movement and some suggestions but no solution as of yet.
Having a 'Connect to server' function is nice but without it working without
enabling the bookmarking option and then entering a name is quite
counter-intuitive and a step back.

[Bug 203108] [NEW] [hardy] Brightness level on battery is not consistent with user adjustments

2008-03-17 Thread Alexey Balmashnov
Public bug reported:

Hardy, pre-beta, up to date.
Dell Inspiron 640m https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/DellInspiron640m

Steps to reproduce behavior:
1. Switch to battery power (brightness of the display reduces to the level of
approx 1/3)
2. Adjust brightness as desired (lets say 1/2)
3. Switch to AC (brightness - 100)
4. Switch to battery. It looks like the brightness drops to the same value as
in 1.

Another sequence:
1. 2. as above.
3. Wait till monitor dims out.
4. Do something to wake up the system. Brightness again adjusted to some
strange level (As in 1.).

Expected behavior: Once set for particular mode (AC power or Battery)
brightness level should remain consistently on the same level upon mode
switch.

[Bug 203117] [NEW] HTML validator (Error Viewer extension) broken

2008-03-17 Thread litemotiv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-extensions

System: Xubuntu Hardy

epiphany-browser 2.22.0-0ubuntu5
epiphany-extensions 2.22.0-0ubuntu1

When enabling the Error Viewer extension in Epiphany, the Check HTML
function is greyed out in the Tools menu. Disabling and re-enabling the
extension (under Extensions) makes it active, but throws this error when
trying to validate a webpage:

Error viewer: No valid doctype specified.

This happens on every webpage that is validated. Maybe a required
package is not installed?

Terminal output gives back an error as well when Check HTML is invoked,
but i'm not sure if this error is related:

[Bug 187383] Re: System monitor causes Xorg to consume 100% CPU

2008-03-17 Thread kripkenstein
I can also confirm this bug. 100% CPU usage on the 'Resources' tab.

I have a theory about it. It appears that the update interval is not
obeyed correctly. When I have it set at 1, I get 100% CPU usage, and it
is updating *much faster* than 1 time per second. When I set it to 3 I
get 50% CPU usage and it updated about once per second. When set to 10,
it updates around every 2 seconds at 25% CPU usage.

That is, it seems to try to update much faster than the user requests,
which leads to extreme CPU usage.

[Bug 203102] [NEW] [Hardy] gnome-terminal occasionally gets scrambled

Public bug reported:

gnome-terminal on Hardy occasionally gets scrambled (see attachment)
during normal usage. Redrawing the terminal by pressing Ctrl-l gives you
a correct screen.

This is a compiz effects enabled desktop so I do not know if this might
be related to desktop effects, but gnome-terminal is the only

[Bug 198857] Re: nautilus does not show existing sftp connected servers

2008-03-17 Thread Lionel Dricot
Sébastien I think I understand your point. In order to be more
constructive, I created 4 bugs that should summarize what I think :

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=522917
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=522918
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=522920
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=522922

The first one is the one I consider critical and that should be, IMHO, solved
before Hardy. (not solving it would be a big usability drawback from a end-user
perspective)

Thanks for your comments, it helped me to make things clear in my mind.

[Bug 202814] Re: Resume from standby works with pm-suspend but not with standard ubuntu/gnome actions (with fglrx-driver from restricted modules)

2008-03-17 Thread FrejSoya
So after messing around it seems that it's because acpi-support isn't used and
pm-utils is.
pm-suspend works fine since it's called with no quirks, but hal on my machine
set quirk.vbe_post = true.

In hal I had
'power_management.quirk.vbe_post = true' because of 20-video-quirk-pm-apple.fdi
changing it to false fixes resume/supend from System-Quit.

So this bug is not in gnome-power-manager but in hal (!).

[Bug 172759] Re: USB storage not automatically mounted

2008-03-17 Thread Martin Pitt
manager.c/1783: mounting /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_272E_5E9F...

manager.c/2603: Removing ripped out
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_272E_5E9F from mounted list

This shows that g-v-m correctly mounted your drive, but some time
afterwards (the log does not have timestamps) it says that the device
suddenly disappeared. Did you actually pull it out, or was it plugged
in all the time? In the former case I don't see the bug, it was
correctly mounted and seemingly working (check the output of mount).
In the latter case it might be an electrical problem with the USB port
or the stick; can you please attach /var/log/kern.log after this
happens?

[Bug 161763] Re: gvm doesn't work for remote sessions

2008-03-17 Thread Martin Pitt
Yes, there are reaons for this. Primarily, because it usually does not
make sense to mount hardware on a different machine, since you do not
have physical access to it. The more important reason, though, is to
prevent a race condition between the local foreground user session and
other sessions. If the other sessions are faster than the local
foreground session, their g-v-m would catch the newly plugged in USB
stick faster and thus assign it to someone else. Very bad if you keep
sensitive data on it.

[Bug 155109] Re: Erratic volume control behaviour with different USB audio devices

2008-03-17 Thread bayger
As someone noted above this bug is also present when using creative
xmod. It seems to be some kind of race condition, where maybe two pieces
of code try to change volume to the response of changing volume using
the knob or +/- on the keyboard. This is only my guess. Anyway, bug
still exists in Hardy. It is very annoying, because I must use mouse to
change the volume. Even changing the volume using mouse causes a lot of
problems (sometimes I must mute/unmute using the keyboard). So please,
try to investigate this before releasing next Ubuntu. I know that a lot
of people are using external usb audio devices. This is very important
for me. If you need any assistance in hunting this bug just drop me an
email. I'll try to help as best as I can.

Regards.

change to black, strange because it was white, last time i saw it. The
only alternative is to close the system monitor but again when reopening
the same problem.
