I personally wouldn't want a bookmark for a one-time open of a remote location. I know that bookmarking is what we have to do as the momentary fix but we need this fixed upstream. I can also confirm this bug. 100% CPU usage on the 'Resources' tab. I have a theory about it. It appears that the update interval is not obeyed correctly. [Bug 161763] Re: gvm doesn't work for remote sessions
Yes, there are reaons for this. Primarily, because it usually does not make sense to mount hardware on a different machine, since you do not have physical access to it. The more important reason, though, is to prevent a race condition between the local foreground user session and other sessions. If the other sessions are faster than the local foreground session, their g-v-m would catch the newly plugged in USB stick faster and thus assign it to someone else. Very bad if you keep sensitive data on it. ** Changed in: gnome-volume-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New = Won't Fix -- gvm doesn't work for remote sessions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/161763 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-volume-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Bug 155109] Re: Erratic volume control behaviour with different USB audio devices
As someone noted above this bug is also present when using creative xmod. It seems to be some kind of race condition, where maybe two pieces of code try to change volume to the response of changing volume using the knob or +/- on the keyboard. This is only my guess. Anyway, bug still exists in Hardy. It is very annoying, because I must use mouse to change the volume. Even changing the volume using mouse causes a lot of problems (sometimes I must mute/unmute using the keyboard). So please, try to investigate this before releasing next Ubuntu. I know that a lot of people are using external usb audio devices. This is very important for me. If you need any assistance in hunting this bug just drop me an email. I'll try to help as best as I can.
