I did have it unchecked. I didn't feel that I needed power management

If I have this problem again, I will post back.

[Bug 208111] [NEW] When two users are logged in at the same time and one logs out, gdm drops back to the locked-screen dialog of the other user, which works only to unlock the session.

2008-03-27 Thread Iandefor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When two users are logged in at the same time, and one logs out, gdm
drops back to the locked-screen dialog of the other user. However, this
dialog box only works to unlock the screen- nothing happens unless a
password is entered and and "unlock" clicked. If another user wants to
log in while keeping that other session locked, they can't.

I can replicate this behavior on two different machines, but I'm not
sure what all information I should attach. Help, please?

[Bug 123955] Re: Can't drag menu items into the root System menu

2008-03-27 Thread alexforcefive
This still occurs for me in ubuntu 7.10. If you try to add an item to
the system menu, it simply doesn't work. No error message or crash or
anything. However if you look at the help page for alacarte it says
this:

You can modify the contents of the following menus:
  Applications menu
  System ▸ Preferences submenu
  System ▸ Administration submenu

So this behaviour is probably by design or omission.

2008-03-27 Thread Martin Gerdzhev
I am attaching a backtrace. I'm not sure how helpful it is but if you
need anything else I'll try to help as much as possible. What basically
happens is Rhythmbox stops responding completely. No music, no buttons
work anymore, it cannot be used at all. With compiz it grays it out. It
doesn't exit on its own and i'm guessing that's why it doesn't report
anything with apport. That is why I have to kill the process.

[Bug 208096] [NEW] Add support for MS Access 2007 Format - Needed for OOo

saving and used gvfs-info to report what it thought about each file. It
appears that the MS Access 2007 format itself is not supported yet. I
will attach a zip file with all formats MS Access 2007 can save out to:

This one needs to be improved:

example - Microsoft Office Access 2007 Database.accdb : application

[Bug 208092] [NEW] Add support for MS Excel 2007 Formats - Needed for OOo

2008-03-27 Thread Chris Cheney
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: shared-mime-info

I saved out test files for every format that MS Excel 2007 supports
saving and used gvfs-info to report what it thought about each file. It
seems that most of them are not supported for detection yet. I will
attach a zip file with all formats MS Excel 2007 can save out to:

These need to be improved for certain:

example - dif data interchange format.dif : text/plain -
application/octet-stream
example - excel 2007 add-in.xlam : application/zip - application/octet-stream
example - excel 2007 binary workbook.xlsb : application/zip -
application/octet-stream
example - excel 2007 macro-enabled template.xltm : application/zip -
application/octet-stream
example - excel 2007 template.xltx : application/zip - application/octet-stream
example - formatted text space delimited.prn : text/plain -
application/octet-stream
example - single file web page.mht : text/plain - application/octet-stream
example - xml spreadsheet 2003.xml : application/xml - application/xml

The following could be improved by subclassing them, but it might not
really be too big of a deal...

example - web page.htm : text/html - text/html

I will also have additional bugs for Access/PowerPoint/Word file
formats.

Thanks!

if you want to have all available colors in the world try any other
linux distribution and if you want to have more colours than that, buy
kindergartenized windows vista. more colours doesn't make things more
clear for users. if there is something important going on in the panel
the notification window pops up. i think there's no need to have
different colours on icons and symbols which are seen all the time on
the user interface. i think, we shouldn't follow microsofts windows
which has been checkuerd and varicoloured from version to version. in
contrast to microsoft apples os x has lost colours over the years. in
the new leopard version frames and the upper menu bar are almost gray
and symbols black or dark-gray.

would help. Also, is it one particular MIDI file or all MIDI files?

Also, try running totem from the command line. Attach any output before

The specific menu is "Tools" and the menu item is "Manage Certificates".
You then press "Add Exception" and re-input the URL. (This information

better handling, I agree that there should be both.)

[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2008-03-27 Thread MountainX
Peter Wuertz has made some good suggestions. Why haven't they been
considered?

Peter said:
(a) if backup enabled:
- copy, not move the original file to a backup file
- reset file pointer, overwrite the original file in-place

(b) if backup disabled:
- reset file pointer, overwrite the original file in-place

or just tell the user that gedit is not able to backup the file and proceed
with method (b) anyways if the user agrees

My opinion is that the developers don't like the idea of copying the
complete file as a backup because copying isn't "efficient." However,
that is a poor reason for not resolving this bug. Just do as Peter
suggests and make a copy of the file! Many, many editors do that already
and the performance hit is not noticeable at all. (Other editors give
the user config options, as Peter also suggests.)

Please fix this! Like many people have said, ALL my documents are on
Windows shares. So this is a big deal for me and a lot of people like
me.

[Bug 208071] [NEW] Add support for MS PowerPoint 2007 Formats - Needed for OOo

2008-03-27 Thread Chris Cheney
Public bug reported:

I saved out test files for every format that MS PowerPoint 2007 supports
saving and used gvfs-info to report what it thought about each file. It
seems that most of them are not supported for detection yet. I will
attach a zip file with all formats MS PowerPoint 2007 can save out to:

These need to be improved for certain:

example - office theme.thmx : application/zip - application/octet-stream
example - powerpoint 2007 macro-enabled show.ppsm : application/zip -
application/octet-stream
example - powerpoint 2007 macro-enabled template.potm : application/zip -
application/octet-stream
example - powerpoint 2007 show.ppsx : application/zip - application/octet-stream
example - powerpoint 2007 template.potx : application/zip -
application/octet-stream
example - powerpoint 2007 xml presentation.xml : application/xml -
application/xml
example - single file web page.mht : text/plain - application/octet-stream

The following could be improved by subclassing them, but it might not
really be too big of a deal...

example - web page.htm : text/html - text/html

I will also have additional bugs for Access/Excel/Word file formats.

Thanks!

[Bug 208061] [NEW] PolicyKit authentication dialogues sometimes appear behind the windows that spawned them

2008-03-27 Thread Mark Pokorny
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: policykit

Description:Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release:8.04
Packages:
policykit: 0.7-2ubuntu5
policykit-gnome: 0.7-2
gnome-applets: 2.22.0-0ubuntu1

As the summary field indicates, when performing an action requiring a
PolicyKit authentication, the authentication window sometimes appears
behind the window that spawned it. As the spawner window is now
inactive, it cannot be moved, and the PolicyKit dialogue's title bar is
obscured, resulting in the user not being able to move it either (to see
the text it displays). The 'Cancel' and 'Authenticate' buttons are
visible and still be used.

Steps to recreate:
Right click on the clock
Click on 'Adjust Date & Time'
Click on 'Set System Time'
Click 'Cancel'
Click on 'Set System Time' again

[Bug 208058] [NEW] Dragging a list view file across the view causes the view to flash blue/white with Clearlooks and Composite

2008-03-27 Thread Alexander Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Clearlooks has new code that causes the tree view to turn light blue if
it has keyboard focus. When dragging an icon, it seems to trigger a
weird bug where it draws with focus and without as you move it across
the view.

[Bug 208056] [NEW] SSH Mounts working very unreliable

2008-03-27 Thread René Brandenburger
Public bug reported:

I use the "connect to server" feature of nautilus a lot to move stuff
between servers. After upgrading to Hardy Beta, ssh mounts don't work
reliable anymore, transfer just stops after a certain time (after about
5 to 6 MB). If than I try to open a folder on the remote Host, all I get
is a dbus error and restarting nautilus is the only way to get it
working again.

[Bug 206212] Re: Cannot enable desktop effects without ati restricted driver

2008-03-27 Thread Rocko
Yes, this seems to happen for all ATI graphics cards now.

It must be because although the open source ATI drivers support compiz
on many cards (actually it supports it much better on my card than the
proprietary driver, which has all sorts of problems), ALL ATI cards are
now blacklisted by compiz (see bug 201330).

You can enable compiz by editing /usr/bin/compiz and removing the check
for ATI drivers, but gnome-appearance-properties *still* forces you to
install the restricted drivers before it will run compiz, which I think
goes against the Ubuntu philosophy.

There should be a way to configure gnome-appearance-properties so it
does one of the following:

1) For whitelisted ATI cards, it should just run compiz.

2) If it's unsure about the card, it should warn that there may be
problems and ask if you want to try anyway. If it works, it should
remember this for next time so it doesn't have to keep asking.

[Bug 208038] Codepage / Encoding issue

2008-03-27 Thread Carl-Erik Kopseng
In the strace there was a mention of some files with the name of Sigur
Rós in them. The file system is UTF-8, but for some reason these files
names have ISO8859-1 or Windows 1252 encoding. This usually makes ls and
other command line tools just show "?" for the non-latin characters. I
tried moving this directory out of the path, and Rhythmbox no longer
segfaults!

So the main point is that Rhythmbox obviously chokes on bad input (not
correctly encoded file names). Remember: All input is evil :-)

Hope that helps clear things up!

[Bug 208038] [NEW] Rhythmbox + SSHFS = SEGFAULT

2008-03-27 Thread Carl-Erik Kopseng
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Description:Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release:8.04 (updated per March 28)
Rhythmbox 0.11.5-0ubuntu1

I mount a directory through sshfs like this:
sshfs $MUSICSERVER:mnt/mp3 /mnt/timbuktu_mp3/ -p $SSH_PORT
I then open up Rhythmbox.

I would expect Rhythmbox to ignore the directory (since I haven't
imported it, and it's not a subdir), and show me my library.

What happens is that it segfaults.

Almost exactly the same behavious was experienced on Ubuntu 7.04 with
the use of mp3fs - another FUSE file system, but this was fixed (or at
least works) in Ubuntu 8.04.

[Bug 208026] [NEW] gnome-appearance-properties asks for reboot if you cancel ATI driver install

2008-03-27 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

gnome-appearance-properties can't tell if fglrx drivers were installed
correctly or not, and asks you to reboot if they weren't installed.

To reproduce:

1. Run gnome-appearance-properties on a system with an ATI card.

2. Select 'normal' effects.

3. jockey asks 'do you want to install the fglrx drivers'.

4. Select cancel.

5. gnome-appearance-properties says that you should reboot the computer
and try again when the new drivers are available.

Note that this *probably* also happens if you have Synaptic open and
tell jockey to install the drivers (as reported in bug 202898). jockey
will fail since another package manager is running, but gnome-
appearance-properties still thinks the drivers were installed.

Version: Ubuntu 8.04 beta, gnome-control-center 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu3,
jockey 0.3.3-0ubuntu1.

[Bug 208002] [NEW] Evolution Conduit Selection Required For Palm Synch

2008-03-27 Thread cmnorton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu 7.10
Evolution 12.2.1

No special configurations have been added.

In order to synch my Palm Trio m150 with Evolution I have to do one of
two things.

1) Either start Evolution; select Edit -> Synchronization Options;
select the conduit; and close

or

2) Select System -> Preferences -> Palm Devices, and select the conduit
and close.

The synch works in either case but won't unless I "prime the pump".

I believe this is a bug, because once the conduit has been set up; the
synch should happen, and it certainly should happen if Evolution is

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4599879#post4599879
At that post another person said it did not happen in earlier versions.

Even using the keyboard layout utility to assign the capslock light as
the alternative layout indicator didn't make it stop responding to the
capslock key.

I just used the workaround and now my capslock light is permanently on :S
Maybe it will get resolved when I reboot

[Bug 178671] Re: Login screen does not have the option to run without hinting

2008-03-27 Thread Murat Güneş
Andres, there's no need to close the bug; as a triager you should
forward it upstream instead.

[Bug 203668] Re: [Hardy] Selecting "Quit" causes Gnome to stop responding

2008-03-27 Thread IM.tehk
Did you uncheck Power Manager in the Sessions menu? I had the same
issue, then I checked that and on the next restart pushing the button
worked fine.

[Bug 49127] Re: Long file names are truncated without warning

2008-03-27 Thread Johan Walles
Note that the default CD burning application in Hardy is Brasero, and
this isn't a problem in Brasero.

So while nautilus-cd-burner is apparently still broken, one workaround
for this would be to go with Brasero instead.

[Bug 207974] [NEW] Screen doesn't blank on lid close

2008-03-27 Thread Brian Starkey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Similar (or same) as bug #187524 however on a Dell Inspiron 6400. Screen turns
off momentarily then turns back on when power manager is set to "Do Nothing" or
"Blank Screen" on lid close.
My problem has not gone away as with #187524

[Bug 61237] Re: Drag 'n Drop in list view doesn't work

2008-03-27 Thread Goswin
Ah, finally I get what you are saying (pardon me being slow ;-)). Yes,
that is not possible now. I've grown a habit of working around this
behaviour but it sure is annoying and unintuitive.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
