2008-04-06 Thread Konrad Paumann
The xulrunnerpatch didn't fix the bug for me. I had to disable the offscreen

Can there be any downsides in disabling this xaa option?

My hardware is an IBM Thinkpad R60. Ubuntu 7.10 and Sound Juicer 2.20.1

What is funny in this, i tried another CD now, and now I have lost the
choice to make MP3 again. I will have another look at it later today, if
something new shows up I will let you know.

[Bug 118974] Re: No sane error message when downloading from invalid certificate SSL connection

2008-04-06 Thread Miek Gieben
The bug is bigger than this. Going to any page with a self signed
certificate fails. This is on Hardy with an AMD64 processer.

When doing the same in firefox (3), it asks if you want to create an exception
for the self-signed certificate for this site. Epiphany otoh does no such
thing and just refuses to load the page.

Seems like a sane security measure, but it would be handy if epiphany would
allow you to also add such certs to a list of trusted one. OR at least
would give a sane warning.

2008-04-06 Thread encompass
Public bug reported:

[Bug 176614] Re: split dual screen in movie player

2008-04-06 Thread mufeng
I encounter the same bug with his. The movie player splits vertically
down into two displays, the upper one is fully black, the lower one only
can be seen of one cm height at its top, most image of which is below
the screen. And the sound is not stable. When plays a song of mp3, it
has to pause for half a sec several times to wait the cpu to catch up.
And my cpu is not so bad PD805 (by the way, would you please make a
program, such as fan conditioner on Windows, made by BIOSTAR, to fix
that huge noise the original fans brings?

In my perspective, I download every updates in the software manager I
can get, with a wish I could be able to see most kinds of movies. But
only brings this bug or conflict, without enjoying the success of
watching movies on Ubuntu.

[Bug 212739] [NEW] regression: desktop launcher with empty TryExec line does not work anymore

2008-04-06 Thread Michael Vogt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I created a launcher back in the feisty days (maybe even before) for
firefox. I created it with create launcher (no manual editing) on the
desktop. It worked fine in gutsy, but after my upgrade to hardy this
stopped working and I only get a pretty generic error that the app can
not be started: There was an error launching this app.

When I remove the TryExec= line in this starter, it works fine again. It
should probably just ignore empty lines like this or give a more
meaningfull error.

Nautilus is probably not the right package, so reassign at will.

Thanks,
 Michael

[Bug 187153] Re: [Hardy] Totem doesn't load the subtitles

2008-04-06 Thread Guillaume Desmottes
I think there is a bug here. When I switched to Hardy, I was confused
because subtitles weren't automatically loaded anymore. I first thought
about a bug and then checked in the preferences dialog. This option
wasn't there before.

I think we should automatically enable this option as most of users are
use to have their subtitles just work. I know some of my friends were
confused too when they switched to Hardy.

That shouldn't be too hard to fix. Just change the default value of the
/apps/totem/autoload_subtitles to true in the schemas.

2008-04-06 Thread abilash0101
I was going through ubuntuforums and came across a solution that worked for me.

I'm reproducing it here. It's easy...
In Nautilus,
Edit -- Preferences -- Preview tab.
There, choose Never for Preview sound files. Done !

[Bug 212789] [NEW] gvfs fuse mount is not functional after logout and subsequent login

2008-04-06 Thread Nick Frolov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

GVFS-backed mounts are working perfectly on fresh OS boot. After logout
and following login every attempt to access $HOME/.gvfs (i.e. with ls or
df) results in 'Transport endpoint is not connected' error message. At
the same time $HOME/.gvfs is present in /etc/mtab. Also GVFS-mounts are
accessible through FUSE when /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-fuse-daemon is called
with some other directory as argument.

Branch of Ubuntu involved is hardy (with all current updates installed),
version of gvfs, gvfs-backends, gvfs-fuse and libgvfscommon0 packages is

you can mount any smb share so gvfsd-smb is ran, use 'gdb --pid $(pidof
gvfsd-smb)' to attach gdb to it and then type 'continue' on the gdb
prompt and note gdb stops on an error then while using the share

[Bug 212837] [NEW] [Hardy] gnome-volume-properties should also manage CDs

2008-04-06 Thread Dave Gilbert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

The menu item System-Preferences-Removable Drives and Media Preferences
seems to run gnome-volume-properties however this doesn't handle any removable
drives
or media for me; it has 4 tabs; Cameras, PDAs, Printers Scanners, Input
Devices

I eventually found what happens to CDs in Nautilus's preferences - but that
means the preferences
menu item is wrong - and IMHO there shouldn't be two places which deal with
these things - or
possibly the menu item is just running completely the wrong thing since none of
the items
shown are actually media or volumes.

2008-04-06 Thread antistress
EoG can't read XMP tags created with F-SPOT whereas Nautilus can

[Bug 212846] [NEW] [Hardy] sound-juicer should include disc number in filename

2008-04-06 Thread Dave Gilbert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

sound-juicer: 2.22.0-0ubuntu1

Sound-juicer has gained knowledge of the disc number in a multi-disc set (in
2.21.3 according to NEWS.gz)
unfortunately it doesn't include this in the extracted filename; this results
in a very strange ordering; i.e.
I have it set to create files as Artist/Disc Name/TrackNumber - Trackname -
e.g.

Stallman/Free songs/01 - Free Software Song.ogg

Now lets say that was the first track of the first CD, when I extract
the 2nd CD I would get

Stallman/Free songs/01 - Guantanamero.ogg

So the two discs merge together and aren't seperable; the disc number needs to
be included somewhere in the
file name - e.g.

Stallman/Free songs [1]/01 - Free Software Song.ogg

the machine suspends and resumes back. I read a lot of threads on Ubuntu

something happens when she is done using the computer and closes the

I also have this problem. the nfs server log gets flooded by mount

[Bug 193617] Re: Hardy rhythmbox stops screen from blanking on laptop lid close

2008-04-06 Thread Mike Rooney
Hi Ted,

The patched g-p-m seems to fix the issue of the screen not blanking and
no policy action dialog appears! The strange thing is that if I set the
laptop to do nothing on closing the lid, it correctly does nothing, but
the policy action prevented dialog still appears. I wonder what it
thinks it is preventing!

However, the user is still unable to shutdown/restart/etc with the
Rhythmbox power plugin enabled. Should that be opened as a separate bug
and perhaps this patch released to fix this issue?

If you took a look at the patches, you'd see that hacks already
existed in the theme engines' code (in Murrine and Ubuntulooks, at
least) specifically for Firefox 2. Removing said hacks fixes the problem
with button borders (GtkButton) but not text boxes (GtkEntry) in Firefox
3.

Since Firefox 3 will be the default for Hardy (an LTS release), I can
see the necessity to fix this cosmetic issue, even if it requires
another hack (that can be well-commented, and removed in the future).

[Bug 211358] Re: Disable auto-popup of xsane

This bug was fixed in the package gnome-volume-manager - 2.22.1-1ubuntu5

---
gnome-volume-manager (2.22.1-1ubuntu5) hardy; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/01_set_defaults.patch: Disable autoscanner command by
default, it is too intrusive and has never worked until recently anyway
(due to a bug). Leave autoscanner_command in place, so that users which
want it can enable xsane auto-popup with an easy click. (LP: #211358)

[Bug 212884] [NEW] [Hardy] two screensavers do not function properly

2008-04-06 Thread Pramod Dematagoda
Public bug reported:

There are two screensavers that do not function properly:-
1) Floating Ubuntu
2) Braid

1) In this case there is no screensaver at all, just a blank screen with
no activity going on, perhaps Floating Ubuntu is misplaced.

2) In this screensaver there is something more serious, when you try and
preview the screensaver you suddenly get a massive increase in CPU
usage(not the amount normally associated with GL screensavers) which in
turn causes the PC to slow down so much that it makes you think it got
stuck, you can return the PC back to normal by closing the Screensaver
window as normal but a new user may not think like this.

[Bug 14774] Re: [shares-admin] Shared folders requires a login

2008-04-06 Thread jclemon
Something I discovered from trying to setup sharing in both Ubuntu and
Fedora:

An easy way to setup sharing is to install the system-config-samba
application, which I think should be installed by default along with
Samba. With that utility I was able to setup users for Samba sharing as
well as easily defining my shares. I did have to log-in as root to
change the permissions on the share (in my case /data), so that everyone
had read/write access, but that's because I'm not proficient w/ using
chmod as a sudo command. After that, I was able to map the network
drive from a Windows laptop and successfully access the shared folder.
My MacBook on the other hand, still cannot access it...

[Bug 201762] Re: [hardy] Battery brightness slider gone

2008-04-06 Thread Walter_Wittel
I would like to respectfully disagree with this being invalid / file a
wishlist for the following reasons:
* The feature was available in 7.10 along with the confusing and unpredictable
way it worked, but it was usable and better than nothing. As an end-user
upgrading I would be very disappointed if I lost this functionality in an
upgrade. As far as is possible I don't think upgrades should burn people or
this will foster the kind of inertia widspread in the Windows world.
* I find the ability to adjust laptop brightness essential (see Alex's use case
above, and add battery life).
* 6.1 Screen Dim Brightness in help has been revised to remove the (I expect
planned but couldn't make it into Hardy) task bar slider, but the existing text
is entirely inadequate. There should at least be pointers to how to find the
laptop specific (in my case sudo /etc/acpi/sonybright.sh) scripts so that
advanced users can control brightness from terminal.

To summarize this should be left as an open bug against Hardy and fixed
ASAP. If a correct fix is too hard to provide in the next couple of
months the old behavior should be reverted as an interim fix.
