[Bug 216644] [NEW] set wallpaper via middle click from nautilus does not scale image

2008-04-13 Thread satkata
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I try to set an image as a desktop wallpaper like:
drag an image from nautilus via middle click over the desktop the image is not
scaled properly, so I have to go to the background properties and manually
change the scale option for the image (fit, scale, preserve dims., etc.). It is
not such big deal ,but it makes this option useless, as I always have to go the
background properties window and set the image properly.

[Bug 191426] [NEW] Firefox corrupts URLs in Netflix emails

2008-04-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: firefox

I got an email from NetFlix telling me a movie is on the way, and the message
contains this tag:
a
href=3Dhttp://www.netflix.com/MovieDisplay?amp;movieid=3D70068654amp;trkid=3D1767;Vitus/a

When I copy the link location in the visible email (I use Evolution) I get this
URL:
http://www.netflix.com/MovieDisplay?amp;movieid=70068654amp;trkid=1767

But when I click it and it opens the browser, Firefox winds up with this in the
location box:
http://www.netflix.com//Movie?amp;trkid=1767amp;movieid=70068654

It has added a slash before Movie and omitted the between the ?
and amp;. It's also failed to convert the amp;s to s.

This doesn't work. But if I edit the URL manually to say this:
http://www.netflix.com/Movie?trkid=1767movieid=70068654
...it works.

Either Evolution of Firefox is dropping the ball here.

[Bug 191426] Re: Firefox corrupts URLs in Netflix emails

2008-04-13 Thread Matthew Tighe
This is probably a parsing error in evolution. I know amp is actually
some sort of HTML or Javascript thing. Apparently however (from
googling), Netflix shouldn't be putting in their URLs, either. It's
not technically wrong but is not recommended.

[Bug 198111] Re: Evolution and Google calendar

2008-04-13 Thread raghav
I faced something similar. Since its really my first time, I filed a
new bug report (216123) which has aptly been marked as duplicate of this
one.

However, in my situation, it does remember the username. And its not
able to show any events at all. Basically the application just crashes.

Checking gconf-editor its visible that it has tried to store the same
info mentioned earlier.

@Michael : The workaround you suggest was working in previous version as
well, I have to say, I personally was looking forward to have the
ability to publish from evolution to google as a key thing (like the
calendar plugin for thunderbird provides). Thats been one big reason
for me to wait for the new version of Evolution.

Could one of you post the corresponding bug number or so that has been
filed with evolution team (gnome bugzilla) ? I'm rather new so I dont
really know how it works.

[Bug 204872] Re: gnome-display-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in rw_screen_list_outputs()

2008-04-13 Thread Arlen Christian Mart Cuss
Hi. Where/how can we get this latest version, 1:2.22.1-0ubuntu5? The
pool appears to have only 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 as far as I can see, but it
may be that I don't know where to look.

This problem's just run into me as I recently upgraded my hardy install.
I'm using ATI, however! Any ideas?

[Bug 216676] [NEW] gnome-display-properties crashed on opening with SIGSEGV in rw_mode_get_width()

2008-04-13 Thread Arlen Christian Mart Cuss
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I recently upgraded to the latest hardy - beforehand all was working
well; using `radeon' kernel module for my ATI card. Post-upgrade, the
screen resolution changed to 1280x768 (from 1680x1024 or thereabouts -
widescreen monitor). So, I went to gnome-display-properties.. but it
segfaulted. At first, I imagined this to be quite similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-desktop/+bug/204872, but
I am using the latest as was suggested to be the fix (1:2.22.1-0ubuntu5
is the version I'm running). Also, I'm using an ATI card as opposed to
NVidia. compiz was enabled when I started out; disabling does not fix.

gnome-control-center 1:2.22.1-0ubuntu2
libgnome-desktop-2 1:2.22.1-0ubuntu5

Anything else? This seems to be quite a problem.

[Bug 185896] Re: gnome-screensaver (and gnome-screensaver-preferences) crash upon displaying Vlechtwerk screensaver

2008-04-13 Thread Tim Besard
Another comment (sorry for the double post), I've run all screensavers on
another Hardy installation (7.10 - 8.04 upgrade, with regular aptitude
full-upgrades), and I did not come across the specific screensaver which
crashes my main PC :s
Strange, as my main system is an up-to-date installation of a Hardy beta (5 or
6)...

Could I provide more information to resolve this bug?

[Bug 216689] [NEW] gcalctool does not display sum in display field

2008-04-13 Thread HorizonXP
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

Try entering a long series of sums like '3.56+3.52+54.68+23.96+...' (I
just used a bank statement as a source), for up to 20 or so terms. The
display should start scrolling as you enter the terms in.

After you finishing typing them all in, hit Enter to compute the sum.

The display will come up blank.

If you do Edit-Copy, and paste into a separate program like Text
Editor, you will see the value computed, which is the correct value.

This means that gcalctool is computing it correctly, just not displaying
it correctly. I suspect that it just isn't scrolling the textbox back
correctly.

Done on Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04, with compiz/desktop effects enabled.
Let me know if you need more details, but this should be easy to
reproduce and fix.

[Bug 216702] [NEW] totem sends surround sound to wrong channels

2008-04-13 Thread Matthew Vermeulen
Public bug reported:

Using hardy with latest updates, I see the following problem (also
present in gutsy iirc)

Totem will output surround sound to the wrong channels. I have a 5.1
surround speaker system, and can confirm that it is set up right (ie by
using the volume control applet I can adjust the volume of each speaker
and they match what the volume control applet tells me.) However, in
totem, sound is coming from the wrong channels - eg I hear all the sound
from the center channel (all the speaking etc) coming out of the rear
left speaker, and LFE seems to be sent to rear right etc.

[Bug 208467] Re: Camera Device button Open F-spot Photo Manager doesn't work

The problem seems to be fixed now.

GThumb picks up the camera when it is plugged into the computer
using this command in
gnome-volume-manager-gthumb %h

The camera doesn't get mounted in the Computer section. Even when
ignore is selected when Gthumb asks if you want to import the photos.

When you open Fspot and choose import photos, it is able to access the
camera.

Thanks for the fix.

[Bug 216685] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon segfaults

2008-04-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 108623] Re: totem isn't buffering correctly

2008-04-13 Thread HaMF
I've got the same behaviour here
* Buffering every few seconds
* Setting apps/totem/network-buffer-threshold to 10 (or whatever 3)  also
causes that buffering fails and the playback does not start properly.

Imho Totem really needs a setting where you can adjust the buffersize (in MB
oder in secs) manually; ideally just below the connection settings.
Btw. what effect has the setting Connection Speed? I did not notice any
difference after setting it from Intranet/Lan to 14.4 Kbps Modem.

[Bug 151536] Re: Hangs on login and uses 100% cpu

2008-04-13 Thread hggdh
Added a note upstream.

@all: we have never been able to zero in the cause. I cannot reproduce
it, so I am sort of limited. If you are hit by this:

(1) please install the debug packages for E-D-S, libc6, glib, bonobo and
orbit. As of right now these are the packages for Hardy (adjust as
needed between i386, AMD64, etc):

libbonobo2-0-dbgsym_2.22.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.ddeb
libc6-dbgsym_2.7-10ubuntu3_amd64.ddeb
libglib2.0-0-dbgsym_2.16.3-1_amd64.ddeb
liborbit2-dbgsym_1%3a2.14.12-0.1_amd64.ddeb
evolution-data-server-dbgsym_2.22.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.ddeb
libegroupwise1.2-13-dbgsym_2.22.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.ddeb
libedata-cal1.2-6-dbgsym_2.22.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.ddeb
libecal1.2-7-dbgsym_2.22.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.ddeb
libedata-book1.2-2-dbgsym_2.22.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.ddeb
libebook1.2-9-dbgsym_2.22.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.ddeb
libedataserver1.2-9-dbgsym_2.22.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.ddeb

Of course, the equivalent .dbg can also be used.

(2) please do not post GDB backtraces if the above debug packages are
not installed. Without debug symbols there is *nothing* usable in a
backtrace.

(3) this is a loop condition, I guess everybody agrees with that. A GDB
backtrace provides a *static* view of where the code was at the moment
GDB interrupted it. Unfortunately, this is helpful, but not enough: I
still do not know if a single thread is looping, or threads are being
created and destroyed. Some backtraces show actual E-D-S code in (for
example, pete's comment above, thread #3), others do *not* show Evo
code. It would be helpful if one of you went through GDB in a series of
(interrupt, bt full, thread apply all bt) -- this might give us more
details on what code paths are being used.

(4) What we need is a commonality, something similar to all. By some
comments, this seems to affect people using calendars. I set myself with
a google calendar, and still I cannot reproduce it. It would also be
interesting to know what architecture you are running under.

(5) finally, you should consider commenting on the upstream bug.

[Bug 150187] Re: [gutsy] [regression] Evince has very bad quality when printing pdf files.

2008-04-13 Thread Mark Jovalekic
@Benjamin Redelings:
I can reproduce it on gutsy.
I have noticed that your PDF includes T1 and T3 fonts. After printing into a
new PDF (or preview) the file becomes unusable - all fonts are gone (and the
filesize gets 1,2 MiB).

Swistak gave me an idea: I create a perfect PDF with pdflatex with
embedded T1 fonts. The file is shown in evince in good quality. When I
print into a new PDF - the fonts are changed to T1C Cairo-fonts. The
original ones are lost. The quality is still okay, but here we definitly
see that there are some font handling problems.

What do you think?

[Bug 216738] [NEW] gnome share folder gui seriously flawed

2008-04-13 Thread Fredrik Stagling
Public bug reported:

Right-click a folder in nautilus - Share folder. The tool that pops up
is seriously flawed. Trying to use it during only one minut I discovered
three bugs...

- When I deleted the share name and wrote something else in there, it marked
the input box red and showed a message on the bottom saying the name couldn't
be empty. Because I deleted the name first? ...
- When the tool popped up it asked me if I wanted to install the necessary
utilities to use the tool. I pressed install, but even though it failed (I have
no internet connection at the time) it unlocked all of the window's
functionality, which would probably lead to several new bugs seeing how
undeveloped this program is...
- When I had installed the necessary utilities I couldn't create the share
anyway. It displayed the following message on the bottom of the window:
net usershare returnerade fel 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare
directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error Åtkomst nekas
You do not have permission to create a usershare. Ask your administrator to
grant you permissions to create a share. Åtkomst nekas = Access denied. I
tried to share a folder in my /home folder, so this was kind of unexpected...

[Bug 216752] [NEW] Brightness applet ineffective for HP nx6320

2008-04-13 Thread Dave
Public bug reported:

Laptop specs:
HP nx6320
Intel Core2 Duo T5500 1.66GHz
1GB DDR2 SDRAM
60GB SATA HDD
Intel 945GM/GMA950 Onboard graphics

Brightness applet does not work.

Fact: Windows Vista can control brightness of the screen depicting that
the laptop supports software control of brightness.

Adjusting the brightness through keyboard works but changing the
brightness slider has no effect. Plus the brightness applet has a red
cross on it despite of the fact that the laptop supports software
control of brightness.

[Bug 216756] [NEW] Impossible install Gnome starting from ubuntu netboot installation

2008-04-13 Thread Leo Iannacone (L3oN)
Public bug reported:

I've installed Hardy from netboot iso. If I do:
sudo apt-get install gnome

I receive this:
The following packages have broken dependences:
  gnome: Depends: gnome-desktop-environment (= 1:2.20.2.2) but it's not marked
for installation

So:
sudo apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment
  gnome-desktop-environment: Depends: gnome-keyring-manager (= 2.20.0) but
it's not installable

In fact: gnome-keyring-manager is not exist on Hardy.

[Bug 216644] Re: set wallpaper via middle click from nautilus does not scale image

2008-04-13 Thread satkata
well, it scale it with tiles option as default and this way, you see
only a part of the wallpaper. This is normally, when the wallpaper has
higher resolution than my notebook screen.

In my understanding the wallpaper should be scaled to fit screen
resolution.

screenshot-1 shows my desktop-wallpaper as set per middle click.

screenshot-2 shows the zoomed wallpaper fitting the screen borders.

[Bug 216250] Re: contact-lookup-applet freezes - not working at all (Gutsy Hardy)

2008-04-13 Thread mlaverdiere
I don't think this bug is related Compiz, since I experience it without
using Compiz...

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: contact-lookup-applet

I'm on Ubuntu Hardy (Beta) and I use the 0.16 version of the contact-
lookup-applet with the regular Gnome/Evolution address book, with data
  in it.

Here's the problem: when I add the contact-lookup-applet on my taskbar,
- nothing happens, i.e. it seems freeze and doesn't allow me to enter
- anything.
+ nothing happens, i.e. it freezes and doesn't allow me to enter anything.

Previous to my upgrade to Hardy, with Ubuntu Gutsy, the applet was
working for a while, but would freeze sooner or later. So in some ways,
  this is a regression...

[Bug 198857] Re: gnome-vfs network servers are not migrated to gvfs on upgrade

2008-04-13 Thread Jim Braux-Zin
I think there is a problem with how nautilus handles those gvfs
bookmarks :

1) Open a gedit window, and navigate through remote ftps with the
sidepanel : you can open and save all files as if they were on a local
drive, no mount icon appears on the desktop.

2) Open the same ftp with nautilus : it does create a mount icon on
the desktop.

That's weird and inconsistent but the real problem is :

3) Go back to the gedit window : you can't access the files on the
mounted server anymore until you unmount the server.

As a side-effect : double-clicking on a remote file in nautilus opens
gedit but gedit can't access the file...

[Bug 214637] Re: gstreamer-properties does not affect music audio sink

2008-04-13 Thread Chris Coulson
Note, the default setting for 'audiosink' and 'musicaudiosink' is
'autoaudiosink'. They should really be set to the default, and your
sound should work fine without having to change either of these values.
The upgrade broke because they were not set to the defaults. They are
fairly advanced settings and most people won't change them. Have a look
at the comment from Scott James Remnant in 2004 regarding the reasons
for hiding gstreamer-properties from the Preferences menu:
http://osdir.com/ml/ubuntu.devel/2004-09/msg00012.html.

I can confirm the behaviour you describe with gstreamer-properties, but
I don't know if it is a bug or is intentional.
