[Bug 188732] Re: Blinking cursor can not be deactivated anymore

2008-04-15 Thread Bjørn Lindeijer
Me too! Cursors SHOULD normally blink in my opinion, it's just that in
the terminal the cursor is a large block which is really annoying when
it blinks all the time. The rather large response in favour of a non-
blinking cursor at the referenced bug makes me a bit mad at the people
who pushed this change through.

So it seems now they're waiting for a patch which only makes things more
complicated... some combo box option with values System default,
Always, Never. I call for a revert since that would bloat the UI
even more than before.

[Bug 134313] Re: pdfimages produces inverted image for black white image

2008-04-15 Thread Yves-Antoine
Hello Greg,

Thanks for looking into this issue.

No, everything works now fine with the pdfimages program on uptodate
Hardy.

I had added poppler because the package poppler-utils, is the one
hosting the pdfimages command on a vanilla Ubuntu system, so it is no
longer an issue with poppler as well : I have just tested on a system
with poppler-utils installed.

I confirm the bug is still there on uptodate Hardy with the GIMP.

Regards
Yves-Antoine

[Bug 216953] Re: Feature request: Gphoto2 plugin in gvfs-0.2.3u1 missing

2008-04-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
You seem to not understand what I'm writting. It doesn't freeze, it
takes a lock on the device in the sense of exclusive access. It means
that only one application can access to the device, when this one is
gvfs then other photo management software are not able to download
pictures. That's not a bug but a design decision from libgphoto. The way
to resolve that is to have reliable unmount for gvfs and make all the
software using libgphoto to use the unmount call before accessing the
device. Is it clear?

[Bug 208467] Re: Camera Device button Open F-spot Photo Manager doesn't work

2008-04-15 Thread Martin Pitt
I just discussed this with Sebastien. nautilus relies on the gvfs gphoto
backend for camera detection, but that does not work properly yet and we
disabled it. Thus we'll switch back to using g-v-m for photo cameras,
which fits better into the current g-v-m dialog anyway. We'll disable
the photo app selection widget in nautilus.

[Bug 217577] Re: desktop.ini

2008-04-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 217645] [NEW] system monitor reports last 58 seconds, rounding error?

2008-04-15 Thread David Scotson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

When I look at the System Monitor it reports Memory, CPU etc. over the
last 58 seconds. This seems odd since the display is split into 6
sections. This would work for exactly 1 minute as each section would be
10 seconds long. Instead they are 9 4/6 seconds long and the X axis is
marked as follows: 58, 49, 39, 29, 20, 10, 0. I would have expected
60,50,40,30,20,10,0.

ProblemType: Bug

---
xorg-server (2:1.4.1~git20080131-1ubuntu8) hardy; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/165_fedora_xserver-1.5.0-xaa-option-inversion.patch:
- Turn XAA Offscreen Pixmaps off by default, and use
XaaOffscreenPixmaps true to turn them on. This setting was an
early pre-EXA HW optimization attempt that didn't pan out; upstream is
deprecating XAA in favor of EXA generally, and for situations where
XAA is still in use recommends NOT using this optimization hack, since
they found it often just made performance worse, and sometimes created
visualization bugs. People wishing to gain added performance should be
experimenting with EXA anyway, not this setting. (closes LP: #182038)

are unsanctioned workarounds but will fix your system.

[Bug 172332] Re: Nautilus DVD creator hangs when trying to write files to disc

2008-04-15 Thread Nick Demou
I've seen the same behavior when I was witting a lot of files (last time
~2000 files)

following is an strace for nautilus-cd-burner and
nautilus-cd-burner/mapping-daemon during the bugy behavior. I've waited for at
least 3-4 minutes with no response (btw total CPU response was ~1% for all this
time). If you need backtrace please let me know what trick I should use in the
special case of nautilus. I've tried
killall nautilus gdb nautilus 21 | tee gdb-nautilus.txt
but it captured nothing at all

[Bug 191027] Re: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument

Hi everyone

I hope this helps, but updates are very important. When I downloaded and
installed Hardy Beta, PulseAudio didn't work on my laptop, with audio
issues and volume control issues. These have all been fixed in the weeks
following. So, can I suggest that you install all updates (incl the
kernel ones, which I think is now 2.6.24-16) and try it all again?

Hope this helps :-)

[Bug 59616] Re: keyboard not working after logging in via gdm

2008-04-15 Thread Martin von Wittich
I just had the same problem and I can confirm that the slow keys
feature was the reason for this. As the option Allow to turn on
accessibility features on and off from the keyboard was set, I guess I
accidentally enabled it with some obscure key combination (the help
doesn't state which key combination would enable slow keys, though).
It's not a bug, it's a feature :)

Seeing the amount of confusion this has created, there is apparently a
need for some kind of notification bubble that informs users that are
desperately hitting keys about this.

Can anyone else reproduce this? I have a pretty stock install. Purging

After search like hell, I found some debugging help for mono (mono

[Bug 215751] Re: doesn't handle when edid data can't be parsed [gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in configuration_new_current()]

2008-04-15 Thread Robert Bernecky
This, and several other gnome-ly failures, no longer occur on my system after
I installed recent updates over the weekend. So, that's good news, and we
can close this bug. Thanks!

My system still fails to initialize properly unless I run gnome in failsafe
mode: (the Application/Places/System...) buttons do not appear
in normal gnome mode, and gnome grumps at startup
if I enable assistive technologies.

I'll file separate bug reports on the remaining problems.

Thanks again.

Re: [Bug 67129] Re: notification-daemon using 237MB of memory

2008-04-15 Thread bfallik
I was recently able to reproduce the symptom from the comment I posted
on 2007-07-27 using n-d trunk, so I don't believe it's fixed
upstream. Using valgrind I tried to identify the leak but was unable.

Anything I can do to help further?

[Bug 191475] Re: [hardy] media tab in file management preferences missing applications

2008-04-15 Thread reassuringlyoffensive
Sebastien,

Thanks for the clarification. I would love to help add the feature, but
I have no experience in writing code (only left Windows behind a year
ago). I can see this kind of feature will be added at some point and I
respect the fact that the devs have much work to do. I also respect the
fact that it's not an urgent matter.

Thanks again,

Nathan
