[Bug 208467] Re: Camera Device button Open F-spot Photo Manager doesn't work
I did a bit of digging, and wrote a systemtap script to work out what was happening ... and I think I know what's going on. Nautilus is launching f-spot, this is configured in from System-Preferences-File Management, then the Media tab. There is a drop-down next to Photos, which lets you choose what to do when photos are found. On my system there are five options, ask, do nothing, open folder and Open F-Spot Photo Manager and Open F-Spot Photo Manager. The trick is that you need to use the second option - it corresponds to /usr/share/applications/f-spot-import.desktop, which passes the --import option. So problem number one is that /usr/share/applications/f-spot- import.desktop and /usr/share/applications/f-spot.desktop, both have the name F-Spot Photo Manager - so there's no way to determine which is which in the Nautilus configuration. That is an f-spot bug. It's fairly easy to fix just by changing the name to F-Spot Import or something. The second bug is that f-spot --import with a file:// URI doesn't seem to work. I can see this from my stap script: 17432 exec f-spot /usr/lib/f-spot/f-spot.exe --import file:///media/disk Which does open f-spot, and even opens the import window, but no directory is selected. I have to manually select my disk from the drop- down menu. Using f-spot --import /media/disk works fine. That also seems to be a bug in f-spot. ** Attachment added: Patch to change name of f-spot-import.desktop http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14569027/f-spot.desktop -- Camera Device button Open F-spot Photo Manager doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208467 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 192629] Re: Cannot send files to trashcan from an ntfs partition
I have seen this bug in a few places and I have not found a simple solution to post in the Ubuntu forums. I am having. the same problem. I understand how to edit the fstab entries. But before I post a reply to this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=774426 in the Ubuntu forums, I would like to make sure that I have the fix correct and easy enough to follow for just about every body. You need to determine the partition and device that contain the ntfs partition. #sudo fdisk -l Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 1 60801 4883840017 HPFS/NTFS You then need to open the fstab file in /etc/fstab and add and entry to mount the ntfs partition with the correct mount options to ensure that it is mounted as the correct user. First create the directory to mount the ntfs partition to. sudo mkdir /media/[myntfs_part] #gksudo gedit /etc/fstab then add the following lines to the fstab file. /dev/sdb1 /media/[myntfs_part] ntfs defaults,umask=007,uid=1000,gid=1000 0 1 Is this the correct solution. I am not sure if I should use the /media directory or the /mnt directory. What is the standard. I see Rocko using /c. I also feel that the user should always have the default option of sending data to the trash directory even if it is insecure. The average every day desktop user is not interested in performing all the above steps just to be able to have files got to a trash can. If it is a security risk the the user should be told this in the delete prompt as a warning. Only having a permanently delete option as has been stated will cause some frustration when people realise later that they can't get their files back. If Ubuntu is designed as an average every day desktop system the security risk when heaving a multi-user work station would mean that it has already gone to beyond the average every day desktop system where in the majority of cases only a single person uses a computer. On a multi- user work station the user should be told that their files, when deleted and moved to trash will be available to other users on the system. Josh Smith and Rocko have made this point quite well. 2.6.24-17-generic #1 SMP i686 GNU/Linux Ubuntu Hardy -- Cannot send files to trashcan from an ntfs partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192629 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 145015] X freezes, hogging CPU
Maybe the bug has metamorphosed. At any rate, the following is similar, but I cannot work out the appropriate heading under which to report it - if you know, please redirect my report as appropriate. I now have Xubuntu 8.04 (from the 24 April CD image) on the same machine. On several occasions it (probably the X server) has frozen. This collection of log files comes from the first such occasion. The update-manager was doing its stuff in the background (fixing the SSL vulnerability), although that hangs too, and I think I had XDVI running, maybe Firefox. I was mainly using Emacs22-gtk. I deleted a line in a file, the lines either side appeared superimposed, then the mouse cursor disappeared. I managed to login remotely using ssh. I found that the X server was taking 98% of the CPU, so I killed it, but it resurrected itself and again hogged the CPU. This happenned several times. However, I managed to save these files from /var/log. I have had two more similar experiences, without being about to save the logs. Similar reports on other Linux web sites have said that X hogs the CPU when there is a remote session, but that I cannot see how to do diagnosis without having a remote session. ** Attachment added: /var/log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14570432/pt.xcrash.080515.var.log.tar.gz -- Gnome session restarts spontaneously https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/145015 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
