[Bug 276603] Re: crashed while listening to a mp3 podcast

2009-02-05 Thread martin
Derek,

the gvfs-http leak you mention is not fixed by this SRU but it has been fixed
upstream already so it will be fixed in jaunty for sure. The patch that fixes
the gvfs-http memory leak is available here:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20351735/gvfs_leak_fix.patch

Indeed you can use the same repro steps as on this bug to trigger the
leak. If you download 20 podcasts of 2MB each you're likely to see 40MB
leaked memory in the gvfs-http process (check VIRT/RES columns in top
for example).

[Bug 276603] Re: crashed while listening to a mp3 podcast

2009-02-05 Thread martin
petski,

I just ran the repro again on my intrepid box to make sure it still
repros and it did. After that I enabled -proposed and I installed your
updated package and ran the repro again and now the bug is gone.

I'm not a big rhythmbox user myself so I won't do any extensive testing
like duanedesign did, but I can assert that the bugfix is working on my
system for sure. I think it can be safely moved from -proposed to a real
update.

[Bug 321402] Re: disk mounter applet shows nfs and davfs mounts only when they are mounted

2009-02-05 Thread Jens Gräf
I can confirm this.

OS: Intrepid amd64

Steps to reproduce:

fstab-entry:
nfs-server:/nfspath /mountpoint nfs user,noauto 0 0

Result:
Current version of drivemount-applet does not show an icon to mount that share.
Earlier versions (I think until hardy) did show an icon.

After mounting the share using
mount /mountpoint
an icon appears allowing me to unmount the share.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information (it's not really clear what problem
you are having). You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd
be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the
problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Happens also to me, very often on my EEE Pc, and sometimes on my Acer
laptop. There is an option to shutdown anyway, but if I close the laptop
lid it is easy to not notice the dialog and accidentally leave the

as a permanent selection, or something. It would also be nice to find
out which program is causing this problem by failing to shut down, but
the dialog says only unknown program.

[Bug 187848] Re: volume control/mixer interface unusable

2009-02-05 Thread era
My concrete problem is that the front panel mic input doesn't seem to
work. While troubleshooting this, I have read enough to actually almost
understand the interface jumble that is the gnome-volume-control applet,
but nowhere near enough to understand whether the actual problem is
already reported.

In any event, I feel that one of the things which makes this
inordinately hard to sort out is that the g-v-c user interface hides
away relevant controls and displays irrelevant controls. If it were
better designed, I would not have to Google to find out which controls I
can ignore, and which ones I will need to enable in the Preferences so I
can twiddle them.

[Bug 23220] Re: Closing lid should not turn off external LCD

2009-02-05 Thread Helmers
Works fine for me in Ubuntu 8.10 (although it's not the 'default'
behavior...)

I have set When laptop lid is closed = {Do nothing} in [ System
Preferences Power Management On AC Power ]. When I close the lid,
then my laptop monitor is turned off (and stays off) and the external
monitor is still active. Isn't that exactly the way it should work?

Who would ever want the laptop monitor to be active when the lid is
closed (regardless the settings in Power management) ?!

[Bug 301174] Re: Annoying system beep plays instead of alert sound

2009-02-05 Thread Pete Goodall
I am seeing this problem on Jaunty, and it is *EXTREMELY* annoying (even
more annoying than people who feel the need to write in all caps). I'm
surprised my ear drums have not burst yet (I'm not kidding). This sound
is what I imagine I would hear if I were to stick my tongue into a 240V
socket, except that might hurt less.

This same laptop worked fine with Intrepid and Hardy. All other sound
seems to work, but I don't dare use it for fear the system might decide
to beep. Please let me know what information might be useful.

[Bug 203782] Re: [Wishlist] Vinagre is very bandwith demaning and should support using lower color depth

2009-02-05 Thread Philip Wyett
Philipp,

xvnc4viewer does handle a remote with password. Have you checked the
remote is not set to require connections be authorised locally and that
is blocking it.

Best thing to do here as it is not related to this bug is ask a question
on answers.launchpad.net

I'm not sure how to check; this always happens more or less randomly, so

I still get bug #317237 regularly, I'm not sure about this one. (I
suspect Apport doesn't catch everything: I've had several types of
crashes that I've only seen reported once or occasionally by Apport
despite the crash itself happening repeatedly.)

Could you please do the following:

1. Please run sudo lspci -vvnn lspci.log and attach the resulting file
lspci.log to this bug report.
2. Please attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log, /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old,

[Bug 278654] Re: gnome-system-monitor doesn't run in user

2009-02-05 Thread Photon
I have a hint about this issue. gnome-system-monitor is crashing only
when opening as user the Filesystems tab. Change the following key in
gconf and you'll be able to use at least the other tabs:
/apps/procman/current_tab. It is set to 3 per default (the Filesystems
tab). Change it to some value between 0 and 2 to open one of the three
other tabs per default and it won't crash any more unless you open the
Filesystems tab manually.
