Well that was silly of me. I set a fixed height for performance reasons,
didn't really think about what would happen if you had large fonts. :/

This is annoying - it didn't work properly and there seems no way to

just want to delete this and not bother about using it. Better just do
everything manually B-)

[Bug 379659] [NEW] gnome-screensaver causes system hang

2009-05-23 Thread daf
Public bug reported:

This is not a re-post of 341129 or 107504 (I've checked them out). One
refers to a problem during system suspend (my problem is on a desktop,
no suspend) and the other refers to bad NVidia drivers, which the rest
of my report should cancel out.

Gnome-screensaver was working OK for me with blank screen. Switching
to blinkbox, a fairly undemaning GL-pbased screensaver, causes the
system to hang completely when the screensaver is automatically invoked
at the timeout. Note that the setup and preview screens for this
screensaver worked fine. The problem is reproducable -- but it's quite
difficult to get any kind of logging when the only recourse was a
altsysrqb reboot. Other GL-based apps work fine, and I'm running
Compiz. Also, replacing gnome-screensaver with xscreensaver and
selecting the same screensaver (blinkbox) does not reproduce the
problem. The issue must therefore be something in gnome-screensaver.

The issue is a show-stopper. I can't seem to get out of the problem
without a hard or altsysrq reset.

Re: [Bug 272587] Re: Resuming from Suspend cause power button action to be called

2009-05-23 Thread PhilT
Yes it's still happening in Jaunty. Tested it just now. This is on an
upgrade however rather than a clean install. As a workaround I went into the
gconf-editor and under gnome-power-manager in apps changed the power button
to nothing. There doesn't seem a way to select this option in power
management preferences.

2009/5/22 Scott Howard showard...@gmail.com

Thanks for the report and the detective work. Does this bug still exist
 in Jaunty?

The report demonstrates the power button event and this bug is described
in the description of bug #44058, so I'm marking it confirmed.

The description of bug #44058: When manually choosing for suspend
(through System - Logout), this works fine (although I keep getting the
logout window when I resume, but that might be a different bug).

[Bug 379662] [NEW] gnome-panel sometimes cannot launch a program correctly

2009-05-23 Thread Ryan Li
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu 9.04, with gnome-panel 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7:
I have an application launcher of firefox on the panel, but sometimes I cannot
launch firefox through this launcher, instead, when I use Alt+F2 or the
terminal to initiate it, it always works.
This also applies to BOINC, hence I think it's probably not an issue linked to
firefox.
The commons between these two software is that I get the pre-compiled bin files
from the internet, but what used to run firefox is a sh script.
I assume that gnome-panel doesn't run the applications like when I run them
directly from Alt+F2 or nautilus, is it so?
I hope to provide more accurate information on this, but I don't know how to,
could anyone give a suggestion for me to collect information?

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

2009-05-23 Thread sten
Thinkpad X32. Upgraded-from-Intrepid-to-Jaunty. Gnome Power Manager
correctly detects the battery state, correctly issues a low battery
warning but doesn't initiate hibernation until 0% battery is reached.
Additionally, the normal battery light starts flashing orange at the
appropriate time...but still no automatic hibernation. What happened?
This used to be one of the most reliable and supported laptops *ever*!
Manual hibernation and resume still work great.

Which logs do I need to attach to debug this?

Thanks,
Nick

[Bug 379670] [NEW] totem-gstreamer stops playback when stream name is updated

message. My research has shown that it happens when stream changes it's
name. If run in CLI, it reports this:

$ totem-gstreamer Plocha/ddur_maxogg.m3u

** Message: Error: Interní chyba toku dat.
gstbasesrc.c(2330): gst_base_src_loop ():

For comparison, CLI mplayer reports this:
Demuxer info Name changed to Cesky rozhlas D-dur (Antonio Vivaldi: Dixit
Dominus D dur. Zalm 110 Vyrok Hospodinuv memu Panu. )

I'm assigning to totem-gstreamer, but it's likely to be a bug in some

[Bug 217551] Re: Password prompt freezes system during presence of a drop-down menu [hardy]

2009-05-23 Thread Karl Larsen
 1. What is a key ring? Why is the key ring called when I try to turn on WiFi
on Jaunty?
  2. I click on the WiFi symbol for my WiFi router and it should connect. But
it does not.
 3. It brings up every time now a key ring panel that says there is an error in
/usr/bin/nm-applet which wants to use the default keyring, but it is locked.

When I first had Jaunty working it made me give a key ring a password. I gave
it karl as a password because it was stupid. This worked for about a month. Now
it is wanting my system password to I gather, unlock the default keyring,
whatever that is

The changes will lead to not being able to get WiFi working.

[Bug 192629] Re: Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately? on NTFS / VFAT partitions

2009-05-23 Thread touristguy87
Sebastien, then please include a link to the bugzilla bug in your
comment.

That will help people to negotiate the issue in a more productive way.

re:
Security concerns dont really exist with trash folders on shared drives:
If you delete a file that was public on an ntfs drive, you expect it to go to
your trash, and will expect it to still be public, and if you really want to
get rid of it you will know you have to empty your trash

I don't agree with this. As a user I don't want my files becoming public just
because I delete them.
Of course that may be what happens (and if so then I should be made aware of
this due to the security implications) but still.

I agree that this is not a straightforward problem from a security
standpoint. But there is a straightforward *solution* from a security
standpoint. Just create a trash folder for each user. To raise the old
how is it done in Windows? hairshirt, think about that. Just what
happens if a person with user priviledges deletes a file? It goes into a
*common* trashcan. Does that change the privileges of the file? Probably
not. If that's not an issue but the OS crowd doesn't want to follow that
model, then just create separate trash cans for each user. Be
consistent.

user on this computer (me) stopped getting crash reports. However, the
other users (including an administrator) still get them every time. I
think this latest crash report is a dupe or near-dupe of the above, but

Yup, same here on 9.04. I was just coming here to report this since it's
getting really annoying, the speed difference in extracting RARs between
file-roller and Winrar is amazing.

It should detect right away that an archive is passworded and prompt for
that rather than attempting to extract it -all- first

[Bug 217551] Re: Password prompt freezes system during presence of a drop-down menu [hardy]

2009-05-23 Thread Karl Larsen
Here is some fixes for Jaunty and Intrepid. In both with a terminal erase the
keyring in the file
/home/your-name/.gnome2/. When you reboot your computer will not know how to
start NetworkManager but you can train it again, like it is a new computer.

You can keep it away from keyring by hitting deny every time a stupid
keyring panel comes up. But now You must use the password for your
Wireless Router every time.

You can use keyring by giving it a real simple password like do and then
whenever you login you just tell keyring do.

[Bug 379796] Re: MM

2009-05-23 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 379725] Crash report cannot be processed

2009-05-23 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate an useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

libsqlite3-0: installed version 3.6.10-1ubuntu0.2, latest version: 3.6.10-1

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Bug 379659] Re: gnome-screensaver causes system hang

2009-05-23 Thread daf
My most humble apologies. The problem is NOT specific to gnome-
screensaver. XScreensaver exhibits the same problem -- it just took a
little longer.

Blank Screen still works. Bouncing Cow appears to work on a short
trial -- I'll leave it overnight to see if I can get it to fail as well.

At the moment, however, it seems that there is perhaps something wrong
with blinkbox for Jaunty 64bit. I'll update here when I have more info.

[Bug 192629] Re: Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately? on NTFS / VFAT partitions

2009-05-23 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Re: NTFS files becoming 'public' when deleted. The NTFS file system does
not recognise the concept of file ownership. So any file, no matter who
'owns' it, can be seen by all users if they know where to look. (I
believe some windows versions have file ownership implemented from the
operating system level, but this is of course meaningless if you're not
running windows when you access the file.)

Why is this bug a dupe of bug #372384? Bug #372384 is a duplicate of
this one and is filed under the wrong package. vino is the culprit and
not vinagre since other vnc clients have the same problem connecting to
vino.

[Bug 379860] [NEW] Tray opens closes when finalizing CD copy

2009-05-23 Thread Richard Duke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Copying audio disc, everything progresses as expected until status
indicates 99% done and finalizing. After several seconds, the tray
opens by itself and then closes. Brasero continues to run, and next
shows status at 100% with a successful copy. System reports the disc is
empty. Ran correctly the first time I ever used it (recovering Windows
user) but then failed 4 times in succession. Using Ubuntu 9.04, Brasero
2.26.1.

[Bug 208111] Re: When two users are logged in at the same time and one logs out, gdm drops back to the locked-screen dialog of the other user, which works only to unlock the session.

2009-05-23 Thread Teej
I can confirm this in Jaunty. If 2 users are logged in, and 1 logs out, the
locked screen dialog only allows you to type a password to unlock it. The
buttons are locked, i.e. Leave Message, Unlock, etc.
Marking as Confirmed - Medium Importance - medium severity with core
application.

[Bug 366408] Re: Documentation inconsistent with behaviour required to move a gnome-panel.

2009-05-23 Thread Motin
After upgrade to Jaunty I cannot move the panel in any way except for
making when they are not expanded automatically (which is not an
acceptable workaround). No combinations of mouse clicks, ctrl and/or alt
keys held down has been successful. Since this is prevalent on two
different machines only after Jaunty-upgrade others ought to be affected
by this as well. Is this the same issue or am I better off opening a new
bug item about it?

[Bug 280505] Re: deskbar-applet crashed with EOFError in prompt_user_passwd()

2009-05-23 Thread Vincent Povirk
I think that the crash is gnome bug 569260, which should be fixed in
gnome 2.26 (ubuntu 9.04). However, the fix does not let the networking
extensions authenticate to proxies when they couldn't before. It just
prevents a crash in that situation.

So I suspect that in 9.04 the networking extensions will not crash but
still will not work.

2009-05-23 Thread Michel B.
I did some changes and installations, but i think the problem came when
i installed Skype. I didn't check right away after the installation if
the sound was ok or not. One thing is sure, the problem was resolved by:

-removing Skype
-removing Rhythmbox
-removing VLC
-re-installing Rhythmbox
-re-installing VLC

Everything work just fine now

[Bug 369092] Re: Ubuntu Jaunty. two seconds delay on incoming voice with ekiga

Same here! Ekiga 2.0 works fine on my previous ubuntu 8.10, but Ekiga 3
on ubuntu 9.04 is not fine. I'm feeling 2 seconds delay.

Actually I'm not sure if this problem is related with ekiga or ubuntu
9.04 because I did some tests with another sip client (zoiper) that use
to be ok on my ubuntu 8.10 box and on my 9.04 has 2 seconds delay as
well.
