[Bug 379659] [NEW] gnome-screensaver causes system hang
Public bug reported: This is not a re-post of 341129 or 107504 (I've checked them out). One refers to a problem during system suspend (my problem is on a desktop, no suspend) and the other refers to bad NVidia drivers, which the rest of my report should cancel out. Gnome-screensaver was working OK for me with blank screen. Switching to blinkbox, a fairly undemaning GL-pbased screensaver, causes the system to hang completely when the screensaver is automatically invoked at the timeout. Note that the setup and preview screens for this screensaver worked fine. The problem is reproducable -- but it's quite difficult to get any kind of logging when the only recourse was a altsysrqb reboot. Other GL-based apps work fine, and I'm running Compiz. Also, replacing gnome-screensaver with xscreensaver and selecting the same screensaver (blinkbox) does not reproduce the problem. The issue must therefore be something in gnome-screensaver. The issue is a show-stopper. I can't seem to get out of the problem without a hard or altsysrq reset. Ubuntu release: Jaunty (9.04) 64bit Package version: gnome-screensaver 2.24.0-0ubuntu6 ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-screensaver causes system hang https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379659 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 272587] Re: Resuming from Suspend cause power button action to be called
Yes it's still happening in Jaunty. Tested it just now. This is on an upgrade however rather than a clean install. As a workaround I went into the gconf-editor and under gnome-power-manager in apps changed the power button to nothing. There doesn't seem a way to select this option in power management preferences. 2009/5/22 Scott Howard showard...@gmail.com Thanks for the report and the detective work. Does this bug still exist in Jaunty? The report demonstrates the power button event and this bug is described in the description of bug #44058, so I'm marking it confirmed. The description of bug #44058: When manually choosing for suspend (through System - Logout), this works fine (although I keep getting the logout window when I resume, but that might be a different bug). ** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- Resuming from Suspend cause power button action to be called https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272587 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. [Bug 379662] [NEW] gnome-panel sometimes cannot launch a program correctly
Public bug reported: Using Ubuntu 9.04, with gnome-panel 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7: I have an application launcher of firefox on the panel, but sometimes I cannot launch firefox through this launcher, instead, when I use Alt+F2 or the terminal to initiate it, it always works. The commons between these two software is that I get the pre-compiled bin files from the internet, but what used to run firefox is a sh script. [Bug 192629] Re: Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately? on NTFS / VFAT partitions
Sebastien, then please include a link to the bugzilla bug in your comment. That will help people to negotiate the issue in a more productive way. re: Security concerns dont really exist with trash folders on shared drives: If you delete a file that was public on an ntfs drive, you expect it to go to your trash, and will expect it to still be public, and if you really want to get rid of it you will know you have to empty your trash I don't agree with this. As a user I don't want my files becoming public just because I delete them. Of course that may be what happens (and if so then I should be made aware of this due to the security implications) but still. I agree that this is not a straightforward problem from a security standpoint. But there is a straightforward *solution* from a security standpoint. Just create a trash folder for each user. To raise the old how is it done in Windows? hairshirt, think about that. Just what happens if a person with user priviledges deletes a file? It goes into a *common* trashcan. Does that change the privileges of the file? Probably not. If that's not an issue but the OS crowd doesn't want to follow that model, then just create separate trash cans for each user. Be consistent. -- Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately? on NTFS / VFAT partitions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192629 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Here is some fixes for Jaunty and Intrepid. In both with a terminal erase the keyring in the file /home/your-name/.gnome2/. When you reboot your computer will not know how to start NetworkManager but you can train it again, like it is a new computer. You can keep it away from keyring by hitting deny every time a stupid keyring panel comes up. But now You must use the password for your Wireless Router every time. [Bug 205999] Re: Attachments names using ç are not correctly sent by Evolution (ATTnumber .dat)
I'm having the same problem. Attachments using ç, ö, á, etc are sent by evolution as .dat format. [Bug 280505] Re: deskbar-applet crashed with EOFError in prompt_user_passwd()
I think that the crash is gnome bug 569260, which should be fixed in gnome 2.26 (ubuntu 9.04). However, the fix does not let the networking extensions authenticate to proxies when they couldn't before. It just prevents a crash in that situation. So I suspect that in 9.04 the networking extensions will not crash but still will not work. -- deskbar-applet crashed with EOFError in prompt_user_passwd() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280505 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is the registrant for deskbar-applet. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 379711] Re: Rhythmbox used to play my mp3s but not anymore, i just can't hear some crackle instead.
I did some changes and installations, but i think the problem came when i installed Skype. I didn't check right away after the installation if the sound was ok or not. One thing is sure, the problem was resolved by: -removing Skype -removing Rhythmbox -removing VLC -re-installing Rhythmbox -re-installing VLC Everything work just fine now -- Rhythmbox used to play my mp3s but not anymore, i just can't hear some crackle instead. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379711 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 369092] Re: Ubuntu Jaunty. two seconds delay on incoming voice with ekiga
Same here! Ekiga 2.0 works fine on my previous ubuntu 8.10, but Ekiga 3 on ubuntu 9.04 is not fine. I'm feeling 2 seconds delay. Actually I'm not sure if this problem is related with ekiga or ubuntu 9.04 because I did some tests with another sip client (zoiper) that use to be ok on my ubuntu 8.10 box and on my 9.04 has 2 seconds delay as well. -- Ubuntu Jaunty. two seconds delay on incoming voice with ekiga https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369092 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to ekiga in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
