[Bug 395313] Re: gdm 2.26 kills or switches away from active X sessions on upgrading

2009-07-04 Thread Philip Muskovac
My 2 cents:

The first upgrade gave me a new login screen and I stayed logged in like
everybody else.

Now for the second one... I don't think It killed the session but simply logged
out. At least aptitude that was running in yakuake didn't get killed until all
updates were processed and firefox had time to close itself (Didn't tell me it
had crashed).
What I actually saw was getting kicked out to tty7 without X - and after a few
seconds gdm came back up.

[Bug 270238] Re: F-spot should remember if I want to copy photos to the Photos folder when importing

2009-07-04 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
The duplicate bug was declined for One Hundred Paper Cuts without
precise explanation. I think that's wrong: this bug will hit any new
user, it can be a real annoyance if the default is not what you want,
and is easy to fix. It's just a matter of adding a GConf key and link it
to the state of the checkbox, not really a pain to do in an already
working Mono project.

[Bug 395460] [NEW] [Karmic] upgrading to gdm 2.6.1-0ubuntu2: double login, wrong screen resolution and unable to console

2009-07-04 Thread Eduard Sanchez Biete
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Yesterday I did upgrade from gdm 2.20.10-0ubuntu5 to gdm 2.26.1-0ubuntu2
on my HP2133 netbook.

Ubuntu 9.10
Kernel: 2.6.31-1-generic
GNOME: 2.27.3

After rebooting erratic behavior is observed:

1) login is asked in correct resolution (1024x600). I'm able to switch
to console with CTRL+ALT+F2.

From here I've found 2 possible scenarios:

A) after login correctly I'm redirected to gnome desktop with correct
resolution, and an error Metacity window is shown: These windows do not
support save current setup and will have to be restarted manually next
time you log in, referring to Class: Login Window, Window: Gdm-simple-
greeter. Still in the correct resolution 1024x600. I'm able to open
console with CTRL+ALT+F2 and operate normally until something breaks the
resolutions (for example running package manager)

B) after login correctly it switches screen mode to a greater
resolution, non supported (1024x768) but partially visible and ask to
login again. gdm-simple-greeter error window appears again. From here
I'm not able to open a console using CTRL+ALT+Fn, the screen is crewed
if I try.

I'll attach gdm logs on the next post. Is there a way to be back to
v2.20?

Thanks

[Bug 270238] Re: F-spot should remember if I want to copy photos to the Photos folder when importing

2009-07-04 Thread mac_v
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper
cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is
quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.

A bug in the program is Not a papercut. Especially there seems to be no
easy fix.

A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would encounter
on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu 9.10.
Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as invalid ONLY in the papercuts
project.

@Milan Bouchet-Valat:
For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut
Pls read the wiki , and also the *notes* at the bottom.

If you follow the upstream report in gnome-bugs , you can see that this
problem existed since 2006! there is a patch since 2007 , but that patch causes
F-spot crash! So there seems to be no easy fix for this. Hence not a papercut.
Hope it is clearer.:)

[Bug 223421] Re: Computer hangs after switch user or lock screen

2009-07-04 Thread JayeshBadwaik
Well, I'm sorry...
but i think it needs to be opened again

I am facing the same problem again.
though it occurs only when i give a keyboard input to get back to desktop
moving the mouse to get back to desktop works well
and when the keyboard works it takes a little longer (may be not really due to
the same thing)

blank screensaver doesn't cause any problem
and the problem is there only when i activate lock screen when screensaver is
active option in
System-Preference-Screensaver
and when i lock screen manually

[Bug 395103] Re: Gnome doesn't have my configured keyboard layout after login anymore

2009-07-04 Thread Sebastian Keller
This patch causes gdm to crash when I select my default user.

After selecting the user, the window resizes, the user-list resizes,
the language selector in the bottom panel gets shown, the window has no
password-entry or ok button though - then the screen goes black and gdm
restarts. (Thats all barely visible, since it happens very fast)

I then created a new user who can login without these problems.

If there is a good way to get a backtrace of this, please let me know,
so I can provide one. I already tried gdb /usr/sbin/gdm-binary or
attaching gdb to gdm-simple-greeter or gdm-session-worker.

[Bug 395313] Re: gdm 2.26 kills or switches away from active X sessions on upgrading

2009-07-04 Thread Max Bowsher
OK, I just upgraded another machine from gdm 2.20 to 2.26, and can
confirm that for that upgrade, the new gdm is erroneously started on vt8
/ X screen :1 whilst the previous session remains happily alive on vt7 /
:0.

I am attaching apt-term.log from that upgrade - in particular I find it
suspicious that there is first an attempt to reload gdm, which fails,
followed by an attempt to start gdm afresh, with is presumably
responsible for the extra spurious gdm.

[Bug 362647] Re: Fails to register ekiga.net account

2009-07-04 Thread Yannick Defais
Hi,

Thank you Andy.

To other reporters: there several possible issues which prevent to register. To
understand what is going on for your particular setup, can all of you provide a
debug output as explained above:
$ killall ekiga
$ ekiga -d 4 -u 4 2ekiga.log
And attach ekiga.log to this report (-d 4 is enough to get the SIP protocol)

To andy: can you reproduce this issue? It it a 100% winner or does it
appear randomly?

Best regards,
Yannick

[Bug 385935] Re: google contacts: error loading address book

2009-07-04 Thread Łukasz Góralczyk
Seems like there's a problem with authentication as debuging output indicates
(see attached log file /stripped/). Here's how to reproduce debug output:
1. Shut down all evolution services:
evolution --force-shutdown
2. Start evolution-data-server with special debuging option (check for a proper
version):
GOOGLE_BACKEND_DEBUG=1 /usr/lib/evolution/evolution-data-server-2.26
I'll see if I will be able to pinpoint the problem.

[Bug 395536] [NEW] Had to force reboot after opening PowerPoint. this is the result

2009-07-04 Thread PhartPhart
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Something to do with Nautilus
I have the latest updated june 30th I think, version of 9.0.4 remix on a Acer
Aspire One with 8 gig SSD. Everthing has been running very well since the
latest update until I opened up a PowerPoint presentation that took forever to
launch. It played through but would not quit. It reported a freeze and was
forced to restart after waiting quite a while. ( Sometimes things are just slow
and patience has it own rewards) Upon restart, no more desktop menus. My SD
card shows up and I can open and view it's contents but the windows it opens
are not moveable, resizeable. If a window opens and covers a window, that's it,
your screwed. I would like a fix without having to reinstall the system

[Bug 226216] Re: Clock applet consistently displays different timezone after reboot

2009-07-04 Thread era
I'm still seeing this on a laptop running Jaunty. I have for a long
time observed that my time zone gets reset to Europe/Mariehamn. The
speculation that this might depend on access to wireless during boot
might be significant sounds like it could fit my situation, too,
although I have not been paying close attention to that aspect so far (I
rarely reboot anyway; I'd guess this might also be related to wireless
availability on wake up from suspend / hibernate as well, or instead).

Sorry, not yet prepared to offer repro steps, but I have been seeing
this on multiple installations and so consistently as to believe
everyone would trivially be experiencing this.

[Bug 395540] [NEW] evolution recieves, but won't send

2009-07-04 Thread Megan McGee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I am running Ubuntu 9.04 and Evolution 2.26.1. I'm using it with my
msn/hotmail account (I have an msn address from when I was a premium
member with Verizon, no longer premium member). It worked until 2 days
ago when I began to get errors. At the bottom it will say that the
message is 100% complete, but it never leaves my outbox. At first the
error I received was

Error while Storing folder 'Outbox'.

Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

Now it is saying that my connection with smtp.live.com had timed out. I
am online.

I've searched for solutions, but nothing seems to have worked. My

[Bug 275353] Re: [Enhancement] Add a flexible spacer in the panel objects

2009-07-04 Thread mac_v
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper
cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is
quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.

A feature request is not a Papercut.

A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would
encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu

Actually, even without NTP in the equation at all, I see the same here.
In a Jaunty Live CD instance, open Preferences Time and Date and

observe that /etc/timezone has been correctly updated. Still, reopening
Time and Date displays the location as Europe/Mariehamn.

... and no matter how many times I try to correct it, it's reset back to
Europe/Mariehamn in the Time and Date applet next time I open it (sorry,
this is in System Administration, not System Preferences). This is
