[Bug 421141] [NEW] mixer applet addresses wrong device
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-applets When several identical USB sound devices are connected, volume changes in the mixer applet only affect the device with the lowest ALSA hw: ID. In my particular case, each participant in a podcast recording session is using an identical Logitech headset and DSP. What actually happens is that although each device is listed in the Device: dropdown of the Volume Control window, all of the entries refer to the first device, and changes made to the setting are applied to the first device, regardless of which one is selected. On the console, alsamixer works appropriately when passed each device's hw: ID as a parameter. Gnome-alsamixer also works as expected. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 11334 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/11334 The design of the clipboard isn't rocket science here. Implement it according to the way Windows does it. But most other applications are not and the selection method should therefore be disabled in the main clipboard implementation. [Bug 421177] [NEW] Units are wrong and internally inconsistent
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Nautilus continues to use the wrong definition for units like megabyte and gigabyte, following the broken Microsoft convention of units like MB = 1024×1024 bytes instead of the standard 1000×1000 bytes. The power-of-two convention needlessly confuses users, contradicts the standard meaning of the prefixes, and serves no logical purpose. (It only simplifies calculations in the context of memory, which naturally comes in powers of two. For anything else, like a file manager, it just adds an extra layer of complexity.) It's inconsistent with other apps, with the way hard drives, flash drives, DVDs, and other media are measured, and even inconsistent with itself, as shown in the attached image. A 160,041,885,696 byte hard drive should be displayed as 160.0 GB. A 4,700,372,992 byte DVD should be displayed as 4.7 GB, and you should be able to fit 1,000 4.7 MB files on it. A 328,000 byte file should be displayed as 328 kB. Even Apple has started doing it right. (http://blog.macsales.com/1852 -snow-leopard-changes-they-way-we-look-at-gigabytes-and-megabytes-and- kilobytes-as-well) This is the *file manager*. [Bug 327872] Re: Missing support for AVCHD (MTS/M2TS)
As the ffmpeg developers do not follow nor even notice bugs launchpad, and additionally have clear instructions for reporting such bugs (which are clearly not followed here), I don't see what we as ubuntu developers can do about this bug other than asking the submitters to follow the ffmpeg upstream's bug submission guidelines (i.e. submitting a proper example file). Pretend you're me for a minute (Joe User) and you think you might have a high level understanding of the process (but you most likely do not). You take the time to file a bug because you see this as a way to contribute to the Ubuntu project. Then you're told that you did it wrong, your bug is closed and no feedback given as to how to do it right. Imagine how interested you'll be the next time you see an opportunity to help make Ubuntu better. Seriously, how am I suppose to know that ffmpeg developers don't come here? How am I suppose to know _where_ to visit the ffmpeg upstream bug submission site? How am I suppose to know what the ffmpeg upstream bug submission guidelines are? Anyways, cheers. I gave up on this whole bug a few months ago, stopped donating money to Canonical, got smart and realized that if I want to have proper media support, that I'd need to purchase a Mac. -- Missing support for AVCHD (MTS/M2TS) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/327872 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gstreamer0.10 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 11334] Re: Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste
Here's a workaround for firefox: sudo apt-get install xclip Edit /usr/lib/firefox-3.5.2/firefox.sh (or equivalent) Put this line after #!/bin/sh : python /home/$USER/clipwrap.py # Save this (for example) to /home/$USER/clipwrap.py #Copy from the clipboard: import os import time s = '' while True: curs = os.popen('xclip -selection c -o').read() if len(curs)0: s=curs else: wcl = os.popen('ps ax|grep firefox|grep -v grep|wc -l').read() if wcl[0]=='0': break time.sleep(.15) os.popen('echo \%s\ | xclip -selection c' % s) #EOF #Limitations are that it only works with firefox, and if anything else in ps ax matches firefox, it won't detect when firefox ends. Yeah, this could be better, but it's a proof of concept right now. This wrapper also only starts if something is on the clipboard to begin with. And you can adjust the sleep. Right now it wakes up every 150ms. That's bad for laptops or low-power machines. This needs to be fixed higher up on the source chain. [Bug 11334] Re: Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste
People on xdg mailing list were discussing about this back in '03. the thread is rather long... I always said it was a misconception in Xwin... http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xdg/2003-August/000607.html -- Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/11334 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a subscriber of a duplicate bug. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 421292] [NEW] Wrong legend 'log in' for already-logged-in user
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Clicking on the indicator applet, New Session.. I get a logon screen (as expected). It shows a green tick next to my name showing I am logged in already. That's fine. However if I click my username to get back in, the buttons become [cancel] and [login]. Login implies to me that it will login with a new session. I don't want to do that, I want ti Switch to the existing session. [Bug 421294] [NEW] Icon for menu item 'Logic games' is a default, and not pretty one
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-games The Applications - Games menu appears to have gained a child in the form of the Logic games menu. The icon used seems to be a generic one, it is the same one used by ALT+F2 dialog, and stands out as not being 'designed' for the purpose like the other icons for games. See screenshot.
