[Bug 422110] Re: stickynotes_applet crashed with SIGSEGV

2009-10-22 Thread André Barmasse
Hi

After yesterday's update stickynotes works again like a charm. Thanks
for the fix. As a reminder: please keep stickynotes as part of the
desktop applets, because they are wonderfully tiny, and thus you can put
a lot of them on the desktop. Don't even think about replacing them with
the clumsy tomboy!!

Keep up the good work! André

[Bug 446191] Re: System / Shut Down Suspend does not lock screen

2009-10-22 Thread Rocko
Yes. It's a new 'feature' in Gnome - but Chris has logged a bug for it
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=598118), so I guess we'll
just have to wait.

I've changed over to using the indicator applet to suspend, but the
applet takes up valuable real estate so it's not a good workaround.

[Bug 457970] [NEW] epiphany-webkit tries to open pdf in okular (which fails) instead of default pdf viewer

2009-10-22 Thread Keywan Najafi Tonekaboni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-webkit

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a website with links to PDF (e.g.
http://twitter.com/lcuk/statuses/5007265408)
2. Click on the link to download or view the PDF
(http://wouwlabs.com/blogs/jeez/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/presentation_pov.pdf)

Expected outcome

Depend on the settings
a. It opens automatically the in nautilus defined default view for PDF and load
the document
or
b. It opens a dialog and ask where to save or for which program should be used
to open the file.

Actual outcome

It opens Okular which reports: Error - Could not open file:///tmp/WKPR4KR2U
Indeed, I couldn't find a file WKPR4KR2U neither in /tmp or ~/.gnome2/epiphany

Additional comment:

If I open a PDF with nautilus, then the file opens in evince. I couldn't
figure out any other place (e.g. update-alternatives)

It doesn't matter, if I turn on or off automatic downloads. It always
open Okular.

[Bug 457985] [NEW] poppler 0.10.5-1ubuntu2.4 regression since -1ubuntu2.2

2009-10-22 Thread gspr
Public bug reported:

After the poppler 0.10.5-1ubuntu2.4 security update on 20 Oct 2009
(USN-850-1), Okular segfaults on certain PDF files. If poppler is
rebuilt without the three patches introduced by the security update
(30_security_CVE-2009-3605.patch, 31_security_CVE-2009-360x.patch and
32_security_CVE-2009-3607.patch) correct behaviour is restored, pointing
to one of these patches as having introduced the regression.

I have not tested the Karmic version, but I will if I can find the time.
The mentioned patches were not introduced to Karmic, though, as it uses
a different upstream version, so I suspect it does not suffer from the
same problem.

By the way: Should this be marked as a security bug to notify the right
people, since a security-related patch introduced the bug?

[Bug 77010] Re: Overuse of system beep without volume control

2009-10-22 Thread David Kågedal
I know have the pcspkr blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
(automatically, I didn't add it myself), and I don't have the pcspkr
module loaded. But, after a suspend/resume cycle I still get the system
beep!

So, apparently the system beep works even without the pcspkr module.

This is after manually running

$ pactl load-module module-x11-bell sample=bell.ogg

to get the PulseAudio bell sound working.

What seems to happen is that after unloading and reloading the PA
module, the system beep stops and the PA beep takes over. After
suspending my laptop and resuming again, something strange happens. When
I press ctrl-G in a termal (for example) I hear the system beep again,
but I also hear the PA beep. And I don't hear it only once. The PA beep
goes into an endless repeat loop.

To stop PA from repeating the beep, I can simply start pavucontrol (just
starting it is enough).

To get rid of the system beep I have to use pactl unload-module and
then pactl load-module as above.

So my particular problem is probably related to pulseaudio.

We're going to revert to the Jaunty behaviour for locking the screen on

release?

(9:33:11 AM) pitti: chrisccoulson: read LP and upstream bug now
(9:33:28 AM) pitti: chrisccoulson: if we keep this gconf key disabled by
default, we should revert, yes
(9:33:48 AM) pitti: chrisccoulson: I'm just not sure whether we shouldn't
enable screensaver lock as well by default
(9:34:08 AM) pitti: chrisccoulson: my feeling is that it makes sense (as much
as locking screen on suspend)
(9:34:33 AM) pitti: chrisccoulson: but at this point of the release cycle it's
bad to change behaviour like that, so I agree to just reverting to jaunty g-p-m
behaviour
(9:34:38 AM) chrisccoulson: yeah, i'm not sure about the default. i've always
found it a bit strange that we turn the default to off
(9:34:48 AM) pitti: chrisccoulson: what would that mean technically? change
gnome-session to not look at the screensaver gconf key when suspending?
(9:34:59 AM) pitti: seb128: ^ any opinion?
(9:35:09 AM) chrisccoulson: i'll work on a patch later to revert back to the
jaunty behaviour then. it will involve the same logic to what is already in
g-p-m
(9:35:17 AM) chrisccoulson: (i'll probably just copy and paste;))
(9:35:54 AM) chrisccoulson: that will mean that the behaviour follows g-p-m
policy, which is how it used to work
(9:36:06 AM) seb128: chrisccoulson, is there a summary of jaunty and karmic
behaviours?
(9:36:18 AM) seb128: I'm not sure what it used to do and what it does now
(9:36:41 AM) pitti: chrisccoulson: yes, that makes sense; so it will read
g-p-m's gconf key instead of g-screensaver's?
(9:37:02 AM) chrisccoulson: seb128 - in jaunty, suspend used to be proxied
through g-p-m, and the decision to lock the screen was based on g-p-m settings,
which are independent of the screensaver settings in Preferences - Screensaver
(9:37:05 AM) pitti: chrisccoulson: that's at least consistent with
indicator-applet etc., so let's do that
(9:37:17 AM) chrisccoulson: cool, i'll work on that. thanks!
(9:37:55 AM) seb128: agreed with pitti
(9:38:04 AM) pitti: chrisccoulson: many thanks
(9:38:05 AM) chrisccoulson: excellent, thanks:)

[Bug 458004] [NEW] gnome-power-manger does not work in karmic ppc

On Karmic (9.10) , PPC, (G4 15 tibook) gnome-power-manager

* The Icon is always the 'wall plug' regardless of power state;
* The Icon does not not change when power is removed;
* There is no tool-tip on mouse-over;
* Closing the lid does not suspend the machine.

If one takes the Jauunty deb, extracts 'data.tar.gz' and as root,
extracts that to /, then it all works again :-)

[Bug 458003] [NEW] gvfsd-smb copies directory as empty file (sles10 cifsd)

2009-10-22 Thread Mick K
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

Problem occurs ubuntu 9.04 (i386 amd64) 9.10 beta (i386 amd64)
(1.4.1-0ubuntu1)

When copying a directory from a gvfs smb mount , destination is created as an
empty file with the same name as src directory
Both nautilus copy and gvfs-copy create an empty file with the name of the src
directory
However using: cp -r ~/.gvfs/share\ on\ server/folder /tmp it does work
correctly

smb share is on a novell sles10 server (novell patches applied as of 1 october
09)
Have no problem with other samba shares - only seems to be with novells cifsd .
It might be their broken implementation, however there is no problems when
copying folders using cp or when share is mounted using mount.cifs so I am not
too sure

Please let me know if there is any further information I can provide at
all.

[Bug 458007] [NEW] evince does not show texts in this pdf documents

2009-10-22 Thread Ermengol Bota
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I have a couple of pdf files that can be read on acrobat reader, but evince
(either xpdf, epdfviewer...) doesn't show the text. I've attached an example
file.
The problem is that the text of a pdf file is not shown, I think that probably
is the same problem reported for poppler at:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6609 (but it is opened
since 2006)

versions
- Ubuntu : Ubuntu 9.04 - the Jaunty Jackalope - released in April 2009
- Evince: Document Viewer 2.26.1
- poppler 0.10.5

I've installed the last version of poppler 0.12 from source but evince
still says i'm using 0.10 :-/

When opening the file from terminal the output is:

[Bug 48146] Re: Poor font rendering in okular

2009-10-22 Thread Diego

Just wanted to say that I just updated my kubuntu 9.04 (64bit), because there
were some
poppler patches. Well, now okular just crashes after opening pdf files. The KDE
Crash
handler is unable to create a valid backtrace for this bug.

Fortunately evince works, and has better font rendering.

Needless to say, all this doesn't help my enthusiasm for KDE.

I got this bug while browsing websites. I notice the apport system

[Bug 458022] [NEW] seahorse-agent assert failure: ERROR:iop-profiles.c:606:IOP_generate_profiles: assertion failed: (obj (obj-profile_list == NULL) obj-orb)

2009-10-22 Thread Brian Knoll
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse-plugins

I got this bug while browsing websites. I notice the apport system
created a description mentioning seahorse-plugins but I was actually
using Firefox; I'm not sure what caused that.

I am on an AMD64 system, as specified in the tags. That's why I filed
this bug, rather than simply referencing 429322, which is an i386 bug
(which seems to be the same thing but is tagged as i386).

Re: [Bug 424237] Re: gnome-system-log menu missing selection

2009-10-22 Thread jorma.olavi
Dear Sebastien,
sorry my late response because of my travelling.

2.) From date format YEAR numbers (like 2008, 2009) are missing ! from
log output (=png-file).

In my computers log dislay... I had records more than one and half year.
How can I be sure that the record I am looking is from the date of right
year if the year is missing ?

I was tracking another problem for long time, before I realized that I
was reading wrong records (one year too old).

3.) a next question is, how or where can I change the date format which
is used in these logs ?

4.) second new question is extension to 2.),
date format in the left part of display (= subtitles like debug,
messages) should include THE YEAR also ?

My experiences are, that analysing problems year- month-day-time(24h)
are more important than those starting with day of week.

yours,
jorma veijanen

[Bug 458007] Re: evince does not show texts in this pdf documents

2009-10-22 Thread Ermengol Bota
great, i'll upgrade... :-)
Two more questions related to it...
- Which version of poppler use evince at Karmic? May be is a newer one...
- I have another document that I can not read with evince but acrobat does. but
the errors generated are different. It's more than 1MB, so I d'on't attach it,
but the url is:
http://www.mnat.es/new/09/trobaset/Troba%20set09.pdf ,

When opening it with acrobat reader 8 it says something like it's not
possible to extract the embeded font. Some characters will not be
displayed correctly (I'm not working with an English locale so I've
translated the message)

[Bug 438203] Re: Unable to play downloaded youtube videos

2009-10-22 Thread Sebastien Bacher
If we install Linux we need to have internet connection to listen to a
MP3 song even though it is a widely used format. I dont remember
Microsoft giving such an option.

the mp3 decoding is patented and can't be shipped without paying the
right to use those, you do pay your microsoft os so they can use some of
this money to buy your mp3 decoder, you don't pay ubuntu though so this
