[Bug 464458] Re: Music Stops Playing Randomly
This is probably not related to my bug submission so I don't know how relevant this information is. But, one change I noticed after changing my sound Profile is that now when I use the mouse to move the primary volume bar on the sound icon in the system tray my audio actually changes this time as before it didn't. [Bug 464458] Re: Music Stops Playing Randomly
I was able to forcefully reproduce the error instead of waiting for it to happen on it's own. Of course I was running Banshee at the time I did this. I'll need to try this in Rythmbox and Songbird later to confirm a theory. What I did was I started up Banshee and started playing some music. I right clicked the speaker icon in the system tray and clicked Sound Prefernces. Under the Hardware tab I changed the Profile from "Analog Stereo Duplex" to "Digital Stereo (IEC958) Input" just to see what would happen and simultaneously causing the error to happen in Banshee. I just changed the Profile to "Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output + Analog Stereo Input". I'll have to see how long my music remains playing. I'll report back if it freezes or not. Right now my belief is that the bug isn't in Rhythmbox but in the new sound system 9.10 is using as this issue effects not just Rhythmbox but also Banshee and Songbird. These 3 programs are the only ones I've tested so far so I can't speak for other music programs. As for Totem it seems totally unaffected by the issue. -- Music Stops Playing Randomly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/464458 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 467868] [NEW] No sounds played with headphone nor speaker during testing
Public bug reported: I got ubuntu 9.10 installed on my laptop. Whenever a headphone plug in to the jack, there's no sounds from both built in speaker and headphone. I follow the steps below and it aggravate the matter that no sounds at all even the headphone unplugged. I'm totally new to linux system. I'm seeking your kind help. ukyo...@yahoo.com [HOW TO] Enable Sound in LG LW65/LW75 As detainer of this laptop model, you already should know, this LG laptop model always had some issues to enable speakers over linux. So, and after try many diferent ways, and searching in to many forums, this included, i found a working solution to the problem. I tried this on a ubuntu clean instalation, but it should work in every linux instalations. First of all you should download some alsa archives, the essential ones, are alsa-driver and alsa-lib: Code: wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.21.tar.bz2 ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/lib/alsa-lib-1.0.21a.tar.bz2 Then, you need some packages from ubuntu repositories, i needed this ones (libncurses5 libncurses5-dev xmlto) but you could need some more, use google and some good sense to find them: Code: sudo apt-get install libncurses5 libncurses5-dev xmlto patch Now, we need to unpack the tarballs dowloaded and install it: Code: tar -xf alsa-driver*.tar.bz2 && cd alsa-driver*/ && ./configure && make && sudo make install && cd .. && rm -r alsa-driver*/ tar -xf alsa-lib*.tar.bz2 && cd alsa-lib*/ && ./configure && make && sudo make install && cd .. && rm -r alsa-lib*/ You should get no errors. Now we need to use alsaconf, alsaconf doesn't come anymore with ubuntu, so we need to compile it. To do that, you need to compile alsa-utils as before: Code: wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/utils/alsa-utils-1.0.21.tar.bz2 tar -xf alsa-utils*.tar.bz2 && cd alsa-utils*/ && ./configure && make && sudo make install && cd .. && rm -r alsa-utils*/ Now just run alsaconf: Code: sudo alsaconf This normally is a normal next, next, next instalation, but you could always change some parameters, if you know what you're doing. Now, you should add your model to alsa configuration file, in lg lw series, the model is minimal, because they use c-media cards, instead realtek: Code: sudo echo -e "\noptions snd-hda-intel model=minimal" >> /etc/modprobe.d /alsa-base.conf After configuring all, and running alsaconf, you should run alsamixer, and place all volumes unmute, shourtcut is 'm', after change to desired channel. Code: alsamixer After that, test speakers, if everything is ok, you should hear now your speakers again like in windows old times (Ctrl+C to stop): Code: speaker-test -c2 If it doesn't work, reboot your system, and repeat the last 2 steps. Some issues more, use this post to get your answers. Tested in Hardy, Intrepid (with some issues compiling alsaconf), Jaunty and Karmic. Last edited by bluryfusion; 15 Minutes Ago at 11:05 PM.. Short on ideas, but here is an interesting fact. When logging into my account for the first time, this error popped up. After a restart there was no indicator in the Notification Area still, but the Indicator Applet which I added was there and working. Hope it helps to narrow the search somehow. P.S. Probably not, given that "paper cut" doesn't include things involving you breathing near the system. Great! Using the info submitted by Milan, I've found a create a patch which solves the user deletion problem for me.
