[Bug 511603] Re: launchers in panel overlap main menu making it inaccessible

2010-01-24 Thread Draycen DeCator
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When the panel is full with launchers and/or applets, if you
(inadvertently) add another item, or if the screen is resized forcing
the panel to become smaller, the main menu may become inaccessible.
Icons that were to the right of the main menu have been moved underneath
it and are not visible anymore. However, clicks are sent to these icons
behind the menu, instead of to the menu.

For example, having a panel like this:

    Applications Places System icon1 icon2 icon3 icon4 etc.

After adding an icon for which there is no more room, or after the
screen is resized, icons are pushed to the left and the panel may look
  like this:

Applications Places System on3 icon4 etc.

(icon1 and icon2 are not visible any more; part of icon3 is also hidden)

When clicking on the System menu, the action associated with icon2,
which is behind System, is started. It is impossible to access the
  System menu.

- This happens in Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty.
+ However, this behavior happens to the left-most item, not just the Menu
+ Bar. After moving the Menu Bar to the right, the left-most item either
+ has other items (applets or launchers) move on top of or underneath it.
+ As more items are added to the panel, more items get stacked to the far
+ left. Clicking on this stack will cause only one applet or launcher to
+ activate, rendering the other items useless.
+
+ If items are removed from the panel, then the stack begins to spread
+ back out to the right, taking up the free space. In doing so, each
+ exposed applet/launcher becomes usable once again.
+
+ This happens in Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty as well as 9.10 Karmic.

[Bug 483213] Re: palimpsest crashes during startup with assertion failed in libgdu

2010-01-24 Thread timosha
In my case this bug only occurs when my Thinkpad R51 is undocked. When
my Thinkpad R51 is docked in a ThinkPad Dock II the bug does not occur.
The ThinkPad Dock II contains an additional 320 GB hdd.

IN NAUTILUS:
In the docked status hdd are listed as:
80 GB Hard Disk:80 GB Filesystem --- NTFS
320 GB Hard Disk:320 GB Filesystem --- NTFS
Filesystem --- ext4 Ubuntu

In the undocked status hdd are listed as:
sda --- NTFS
sdb --- ext4 Ubuntu

In Nautilus: when I click right on Floppy Drive or cdrom0, which are not
present in the undocked status, GDM crashes.

[Bug 47604] Re: Pictures Folder isn't configurable

2010-01-24 Thread jdjenkins
It seems that this screensaver isn't regarded as very important, but
it's one of the first things people notice when switching from Windows.
My parents use their laptop partly as an electronic picture frame, and
on Windows they can use the arrow keys to go back to a picture they want
a second look at. Also, options like displaying the filename (with or
with full path), changing the timing and type of transitions are all
useful, quite apart from just being able to choose the folder!

[Bug 511691] [NEW] Nautilus disc burner does not use specified disc name

2010-01-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

OS: Linux Mint 8 Helena
Gnome: 2.28.0
Gnome Nautilus: 2.28.1
Brasero: 2.28.2

I'm not sure exactly which package this involves, but the problem I am
facing is that when I use the CD/DVD creator method of burning to disc
with the drag and drop feature in a Nautlius window and then specify a
disc name, once the burn process has completed, the disc is named
'CDROM' as opposed the name that I had typed in.

To reproduce:
1)insert a blank CD/DVD into the disc drive
2)select the CD/DVD creator option to burn to a blank disc
3)drag a file to the drag and drop area
4)click on the write to disc button
5)enter a new name into the 'disc name' section and proceed with the burn.

[Bug 511288] Re: middle button isn't easy for dragging the document

2010-01-24 Thread Jérôme
Below are the solutions I can imagine :

A. key pressed as mode selector

When pressing the shift key, the mouse cursor changes from a hand to a
caret cursor. Next the mouse can be used for selection and automatic
copy like it is currently doing.

B. button mode selector in the toolbar

2 buttons in the toolbar could display the current mode and allow to
change it as well. One button could select the dragging mode and stay
depressed until the user click on the second button which could select
the copy mode. The second button would stay depressed while the copy
mode is active.

C. Simultaneous operation of 2 previous solutions

When the mouse cursors comes over the copy mode button, an help ballon
could display that this mode is accessible with the shift key too. When
pressing the shift key, then the copy mode button state change to
depressed and comes back to inactive state when the shift key is
released or the user pressed the dragging mode button.

dialog. Scaling works (e. g. 120 percent) but there's still the same
offset on the left as with scale set to 100 percent. What's the Page
Handling tab of the print dialog?

Was experimenting with Gnome-Shell

menu on the screen there was a horizonal line running through it, and all the
words were in the wrong place, could not highlight anything

exited out of terminal to end the gnome shell, and system did not return
to normal...

about to do a hard reboot, and purge shell from my system.. (Looks

bug also produce an annoyng problem, because when the length is wrong

[Bug 511894] [NEW] cd/dvd icon disappears when blank medium inserted

2010-01-24 Thread David Balažic
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I booted Ubuntu live from a CD (USB key actually) and then I noticed
that when I insert a blanked DVD-RW , the CD/DVD drive icon in nautilus
disappears. When I eject the DVD, the icon reappears.

Non-empty DVD media of same type work without error (they are mounted,
the icon appears on desktop and I can browse the contents).

[Bug 497334] Re: I cannot copy or move contacts between Personal and Ubuntu One address books

2010-01-24 Thread Viktor
Hi!

I tested it today morning. The result of the test case is similar but in
this case counchdb was running.

It can be different question why coushdb process was broken down during
the previous test occasion.

bact to the test case. Detected log rows to this test case are...

It might be something in the dragdrop implementation in evolution. Especially
around the address book GUI controls and objects.

[Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB flash key (pendrive) are slowing down with time

2010-01-24 Thread Simon Holm Thøgersen
RishiRamraj:

You can see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DiskPerformance for
general advice on testing performance of a disk and reporting your
issue. Your snip from dmesg tells that you plugged in a USB 2.0 device,
but that is about what can be said from that information, so further
performance tests are certainly required.

Murz and Digital5700:

Your issues with noop as a much better scheduler than cfq are very
interesting, but I'm not sure what the best way forward is, bug #381300
and #131094 already exists without really going anywhere. If you can
make a good report with dstat numbers etc. and with the newest upstream
kernel compiled from git there should be a good chance of getting Jens
Axboe looking into the issue (he's the upstream kernel developer that
maintains the I/O scheduler subsystem).

alex123:
You should verify that your front panel USB connections are not USB 1.1, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DiskPerformance.

Have you tried your device with another OS with different performance results?

From your lsusb output is does not look like your device is listed? Was

If that doesn't turn up anything obvious you should probably see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DiskPerformance and test whether the
raw device performance is better than when formatted. Backup your data
on the device first.

dd numbers with bs=1M in addition to the bs=32 would also be
interesting.

[Bug 445100] Re: karmic gnome-display-properties hangs for external monitor mode 1280x1024

2010-01-24 Thread Alessandro Arrichiello
Same here on Asus eeepc 1005HA on Ubuntu 9.10,

a solution is:
*) Connect VGA cable before login
*) If you're already logged in, connect VGA cable, logout an then login again

After that you can easily edit resolutions of your screens with
gnome-display-properties, but compiz doesn't seem to work properly because my
gnome-terminal has lost trasparency and mplayer shows white windows when
playing video with -vo xv,
I'm able to watch video only with -vo x11 driver.

Note: removing VGA cable and restarting gdm solves all the problem
related to compiz.

Hope that someone can fix this.

Bye.

[Bug 511945] [NEW] nautilus does not handle fonts:/// folder

2010-01-24 Thread Igron
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hi, I don't know if it's a bug in nautilus or in gnome.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 alpha2.

When I'm trying to open fonts:/// location in nautilus, i get
following error:

 Не удалось показать «fonts:///».
Nautilus не может обрабатывать адреса «fonts».

I don't know how this error sounds in english exactly, but (due to
http://www.mylinux.com.ua/i18n/i18n/nautilus/nautilus-2.12.1.ru.po) I
think it's something like this:

 Couldn't display «fonts:///».
 Nautilus cannot handle «fonts:///» locations.

So, I can't control my fonts in user-friendly way (add fonts, remove
fonts, view installed fonts).

actually lead to this kind of trouble. I've reproduced the problem once

Could you reproduce the bug once again, running the commands:
sudo killall /usr/bin/perl system-tools-backends;
sudo /usr/sbin/system-tools-backends -d ~/stb.log
sudo /usr/share/system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/SystemToolsBackends.pl -m

before launching time-admin? Please also use
time-admin ~/time-admin.log
so that we can check everything goes the same. Thanks!

[Bug 55270] Re: Double-click timeout is not applied to X

2010-01-24 Thread mishagam
Double-clicking still doesn't work for ubuntu 9.10 and netbeans 6.8.
changing in ~/.Xresources fixed it - thanks
I now believe that change in /etc/X11/Xresources/X11-common would fix it also.
I wonder why it takes several years to change this flag in mouse preferences
dialog - may be because /etc/X11 changes things for ALL users and mouse
preferences are presumably for ONE user?
May be, but in my opinion making double-click time same for all users is
preferable to double-click not working for Java applications like Netbeans.

[Bug 509652] Re: evince shrinks pages on printer

2010-01-24 Thread madbiologist
I've just printed your document from Karmic 9.10, using the same version
of Evince (evince 2.28.1-0ubuntu1.2) as you. The document looks the
same on screen as it does when printed, including having the same size
margins.

If your issue is visible in Evince's Print-preview, could you attach a
screenshot of that? Can you also attach a screenshot of the Print-
preview in Adobe Reader and/or xpdf?

The Page Handling tab of the print dialog seems to be an evince
2.29.5-0ubuntu1 thing (I was using Lucid Lynx 10.04 alpha 2 at the
time).

[Bug 511980] [NEW] gnome-panel on autohide shows below application window.

2010-01-24 Thread Grzegorz Śliwiński

 Description: Ubuntu 9.10

Here are the details of what's going on. Some time ago I installed
awant-window-navigator from repositories, removed bottom gnome panel, and set
up top one on autohide, as well as awn. I'm working on laptop, and this
configuration uses screen more efficient.
Point is, that from time to time (more often lately), gnome-panel was comming
from hiding behind application window, and awn wasn't showing (probably same
bug) at all. I had to restart awn, but clicking gnome-panel was enough to make
it behave correctly.
Yesterday I've updated awn to the one from awn-testing ppa repository. I no
longer seem to have problems with it, however problem with gnome-panel stayed
or even gone worse. It no longer comes behind even if clicked. Funny thing,
that it works correctly on other virtual desktop, at least till I activate that
window instead of panel, I have evolution turned on.

provided by Ubuntu, and doesn't export the missing symbol there. Closing
this, as it's not a bug but rather a local configuration issue

[Bug 505371] Re: Usability: .RUN files, terminal, and privileges

2010-01-24 Thread James Laine
@Bruce: If you would be so kind to move this into an issue of its own,
that would be great (file it upstream right away, not in Launchpad
please)

As this is my very fist piece of feedback for the Ubuntu Linux operating
system, I am very unfamiliar with the tools and methods of managing
this. Can you explain to me how to file it upstream, not in launchpad
please? This original feedback was submitted simply by clicking on the
'help' menu, followed by 'report a problem'.

[Bug 431147] Re: Cannot Unlock System Administration Login Screen

2010-01-24 Thread David Andersson
Me too. Nothing happens when klicking the Unlock button.

Behaviour:

When gdmsetup is started from the SystemAdministration menu, locally, the
button becomes gray when pressed and resumes normal appearance when released.
When gdmsetup is started from a terminal with ssh X11 forwarding, the button
becomes gray when pressed and resumes normal appearance when released.
When started with sudo gdmsetup and gksu gdmsetup from a terminal with ssh
X11 forwarding, the button becomes gray when pressed and stays gray/inactive
when released.

User-admin behaviour, for reference:

When users-admin is started from a terminal with ssh X11 forwarding, the
unlock button is already gray and a text (in swedish that translates to) Not
authorized to make changes.
When users-admin is started with sudo users-admin there is no unlock button,
and operations are allowed.

Ubuntu 9.10 was installed from scratch but /home was copied from a 9.04
system.

No process polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 is running.

you can print to a file from Evince and AR to see the difference. I'll

[Bug 257713] Re: No thumbnail for .svgz file

2010-01-24 Thread Gaz Davidson
I can't see thumbnails for svgz files either. Not sure if this is a
regression or a different problem, because opening in EoG no longer
fixes the thumbs.

If I rename a svg file to svgz it does re-render the thumb, if I rename
a svgz file to svg then it doesn't re-render it. librsvg appears to be
built with --with-svgz, but I'm not sure.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10

[Bug 279938] Re: log out switches to other account without password

2010-01-24 Thread Charlie Kravetz
In testing this using Xubuntu 9.04, the screensaver is installed by
default with the option Lock screen when screensaver is active
unchecked. After checking this option, using the Blank screen
screensaver, the password prompt is given to log back into user1 after
user2 logged out.

I was unable to reproduce this issue after checking Lock screen... in
Applications - Settings - Screensaver. Is this still an issue for
you?

Thank you in advance.
