2010-02-17 Thread Omer Akram
Please delete all accounts in empathy and quit empathy. then remove
~/.config/Empathy ~/.mission-control and ~/.gconf/apps/empathy and
reboot your system and make an account and see if that solves the
problem. Else you may want to try the development release of ubuntu from
the ppa to install latest empathy sudo add-apt-repository
ppa:telepathy/ppa ;sudo apt-get update ;sudo apt-get upgrade I hope
that will solve the problem

this crash, though, but is also a sign of addressing invalid/corrupted

2010-02-17 Thread Mitch Towner
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information. Would you
please add the information requested from the Reporting Sound Bugs section of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems as separate attachments? If you
are running using Jaunty or Karmic, please run the command apport-collect -p
alsa-base 523050.
If you are running Karmic, please read through the following wiki page as it
resolves a lot of common audio problems.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems/KarmicCaveats
Also, can you please state whether you have no sound for CDs only in
rhythmbox, or no sound at all.
Thanks in advance.

[Bug 471251] Re: Evince has rendering artifacts when scrolling in a PDF doc

2010-02-17 Thread Robert
you are right - I switched to metacity now - and everything just works - even
faster. No artifacts anymore :-). Thanks for this advice!
for everybody who does not know how to switch: just type in the terminal:
gksudo gconf-editor
and navigate to
- apps
- metacity
 - gerneral
there choose compositing_manager.

before this it is probably a good idea to switch of Compize - just go
to the System-Menu, Appearance and at the tab Visual Effects choose
None

---
gnome-power-manager (2.29.2-0ubuntu6) lucid; urgency=low

  * debian/rules: Disable appindicator for now. The patch causes g-p-m to
crash on startup (LP: #523041 ), is very brittle (no
checks for indicator_new() failure/NULL pointers) and does not fall back
to upstream behaviour dynamically if indicator initialization fails.
This reopens LP #497870.

[Bug 523098] [NEW] Empathy not connecting automatically and the status drop down is disabled

2010-02-17 Thread Vinodkumar K N
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When adding a gtalk account, and after clicking Apply it doesn't connect to the
gtalk.
I installed Pidgin and connected to gtalk. And somehow empathy got connected
when I changed the indicator-applet-session status to available. But the
empathy status dropdown is disabled or I didn't see it in enabled state ever.
indicator-applet-session Set status is greyed. Only after starting Pidgin, it
will become enabled. Then I can close Pidgin. indicator-applet-session is in
enabled state. But that empathy dropdown is disabled all the time.

If I change the indicator-applet-session status, empathy status will
also change. But I can't add custom status.

[Bug 523099] [NEW] Glade's menu editor frozen by a bug.

2010-02-17 Thread moma
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: glade-3

Hello,

I created a small PyGTK project using the Ubuntu's Quickly.
Then tried to edit the UI with Glade. But Glade's menu editor froze and all the
hard work was gone.

This error is always reproducible on this machine. Do this

0) Create a minimal Ubuntu-project using Quickly
$ quickly create ubuntu-project sally

1) Start the glade UI editor.
$ cd sally
$ quickly glade

2) In the Glade, start the menu editor (right click the menu and choose
Edit... from the popup-menu)

3) Select a menu item (eg. File - _New ), and change its Name to
something different.

4) Then click the Type field and set the Type to something different.

Glade gladly freezes.

[Bug 522969] [NEW] Jockey doesn't add nvidia-xconfig (Nvidia X Server Settings) to menu after installing nvidia driver until you re-login

2010-02-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When you install the nvidia driver, Nvidia X Server Settings isn't added
to the System - Administration menu until you log out and back in. (And
that's after you rebooted to install the driver, and therefore already
logged in once)

Steps to reproduce:
Install a fresh install.
Use jockey to install the current nvidia driver.
Restart, as recomended by jockey.
Look under System - Administration for Nvidia X Server Settings, and observe
that it isn't there
Log out.
Log back in.
Look under System - Administration for Nvidia X Server Settings, and Find it

[Bug 392589] Re: Default setting for remembering password should be remember until logout

2010-02-17 Thread David Siegel
Yes, but which case is the 80% use case -- user wants the password to be
remembered for the duration of the session and will not be asked for
different credentials for the same SMB share, or a user will be asked
different credentials? If the latter is a corner case, which affecting SMB
shares only suggests it is, we should still consider changing the /default/
behavior so that most users benefit from a better default, while the
possibly relatively smaller population of SMB users exhibiting the use case
Seb describes should be the ones to use a non-default setting.

I'm running 9.10 on a Fujitsu laptop. The CD / DVD drive on this laptop

CDs and DVDs work fine, but it can't see audio CDs. I get Unable to

drive. The rest of the message is: DBus error

[Bug 523121] [NEW] Menu entries should show the application name *before* the description

2010-02-17 Thread Alessio Gaeta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-menus

I'm reporting this bug here, but it is a general issue with each program's
.desktop file.
When navigating menus, I expect to find my applications by their name, but
often (almost ever) they are ordered by their generic description. I don't know
if this is an issue that affects all Ubuntu translations, though, but so is for
the Italian localization.
To be clear, an example: if I wanted to launch Empathy, I would do

Applicazioni - Internet - Empathy [- Messaggistica istantanea]

but I find instead

Applicazioni - Internet - Messaggistica istantanea Empathy

That's could be fine the first time I use Ubuntu (maybe I don't know
what Empathy is...), but next times it is really annoying: I just look
for Empathy, because Empathy is what I want (on white pages you look for
Smith, John, not for Plumber/Fireman/Whatever-work John Smith).

There are good examples too, like Rhythmbox and Gwget, but they are the
minority.
Marking this as a papercut.
Thank you.

source item for each person in your contact list who has not sent you
new messages, but who has connected in the past minute and is still
online. It should not do this unless it is also configured to display a
notification bubble notifying you that the person has connected ... For
someone who has connected in the past minute but not sent you new
messages, time should be set to “connected”.

So in the case of Empathy, I think the required changes are (1) add
those items only when Enable notifications when a contact comes online
is checked, and (2) set time = connected for them.

Re: [Bug 392589] Re: Default setting for remembering password should be remember until logout

2010-02-17 Thread David Siegel
If more than 80% of users would benefit from the remember until session
ends options, and the remainder of users would still be able to accomplish
tasks involving different credentials for the same share, and it doesn't
pose a significant security risk, then I would favor changing the default. I
think the issue is more complex than I understand so I am going to defer to
those who understand SMB use cases better.

[Bug 311614] Re: If DPI in X != DPI in Gnome, document dimensions are not true at 100% zoom

2010-02-17 Thread Kiri
Dimitrios, I think the latter: x.dpi=gnome.dpi' .
Or at least, the user should be able to configure GNOME to use the X Windows
DPI at any time, without manually looking up what the X Windows DPI is and
entering the same number into the GNOME configuration.
A GNOME DPI setting should really be for emergency use only, not normal use.
The window system, whether X or MS, should normally be the authorative source.

I agree, it was my first sentence... ;)
Nevertheless, I think there is a need of some kind of guidelines in
writing/translating menu entries to avoid confusing end users (-
usability issue).
And of course fix translations accordingly before Lucid is released...

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

- This bug seems to be wrong translations by the Italian empathy translations

[Bug 523203] [NEW] GTalk chat status not synce'd with Empathy

2010-02-17 Thread piratemurray
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

This could be a limitation of the API Empathy is using to connect to
GTalk but it would strike me that if I have a single tool to coordinate
my chats across different accounts (GTalk, MSN) then a single change in
that tool should ripple out across the any other clients.

For example: I sign into GMail in Firefox and leave the window open so I
can easily see new emails. This means that the GTalk chat client
embedded in the browser on the left of my inbox is a running instance of
GTalk. I also sign into my accounts (MSN, GTalk) using Empathy which
means a second instance of GTalk is running via Empathy. Now if I change
my status in the browser's instance I can understand why I might not
want to change my status in Empathy (because my MSN status would also
change? And Empathy currently doesn't support different statuses for
each account?). However if I change my status in Empathy I want that
change to be reflected globally. That is to say I expect my status to
change in the browser instance. And if I install and load Pidgin then I
expect the status of GTalk to be changed there too.

Bug or as designed?

Steps to reproduce:
1) Log into GMail with the GTalk box on the left enabled with a status (any
status will do)
2) Log into Empathy
3) Change your status in Empathy

Expected result:
Statuses across accounts and across clients are synch'd

Actual result:
GTalk in the browser window has my original status and is not updated when I
change my Empathy status

[Bug 71030] Re: Lock Screen blanks screen instead of showing screensaver (on external monitor)

2010-02-17 Thread SkullBurner
Hi, I have noticed following behavior regarding gnome-screensaver and
gnome-power-manager on my laptop.
If I switch from internal display to external one and then close the lid of the
laptop then screensaver only shows blank screen instead of selected theme. If I
open the lid while screensaver is still on then the selected screensaver theme
is activated and stays on after I close the lid. If I stop the screensaver by
moving mouse and let it start again while lid is closed only blank screen is
activated. Also Gnome-Power-manager doesn't switch off external display after
the idle time set in the parameters, the external display stays always on if I
close the lid of the laptop or/and I switch off internal display. There must be
some logic in gnome-screensaver and gnome-power-manager that looks if laptop
internal screen is off or if the lid is closed and then it does not activate
screensaver or DPMS features because they are not needed. Problem is that if
one uses external display with internal laptop display swithced off or lid
closed screensaver should be activated and DPMS should still work for external
display. I think gnome-screenasver and gnome-power-manager code should be
changed to become aware of the display that is being used and if the external
display is used they should ignore on/off status of internal display or lid
position.
I have noticed that if I switch the internal display to external display while
my laptop lid is closed and after external display is activated then I kill
gnome-screensaver and start it again then screensaver is working properly on
external display despite the fact that laptop lid is closed. I have tried same
procedure with gnome-power-manager but it doesn't help with it.

I use ubuntu 9.10 on Samsung Q35 laptop.

[Bug 521759] Re: desktop appears blank

2010-02-17 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 497875] Re: Support Application Indicators

2010-02-17 Thread Jan Arne Petersen
Currently the libgnomekbd functionality used by the gsd keyboard plugin
is mixed into a GtkStatusIcon subclass (GkbdStatus), I extracted that
all into a singleton GkbdConfiguration class, which makes it possible to
use it with an application indicator.

It would probably make sense to reimplement GkbdStatus and
GKbdIndicatorWidget in terms of GkbdConfiguration, but that can still be
done later.

[Bug 523236] [NEW] Translation problem in Nautil us (French version): 21ère

2010-02-17 Thread JF
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Bonjour.

Martin, you are right, it's not a time issue and I was also able to
consistently reproduce it when hitting the number '2' key (or @ key as
described in your bug) on my keyboard.

[Bug 521794] Re: Tilted text in PDF document causes CUSP error

2010-02-17 Thread madbiologist
Unable to reproduce on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx alpha 2, with evince
2.29.5-0ubuntu1.

I followed your steps but the PDF file with tilted text was displayed in
Print Preview and printed out fine.

Marking as fix released. You may wish to see if the problem occurs
using the 9.10 Karmic Koala Live CD, but if you do this make sure to
use Synaptic to update evince after boot-up.

** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Fix Released

[Bug 486960] Re: Brasero disk burner won't get past Preparing to write.

2010-02-17 Thread wizodd
I think that Marty (#14) is right in my case.

And it seems to be related to the bug which prevents ejection after
burning, in that when that happens I often have to resort to the
paperclip to eject, which then leaves the image mounted, even though an
empty burner is added to the list.

[Bug 523250] [NEW] CD in drive causes Nautilus to crash

2010-02-17 Thread cmnorton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Please do not mark this bug invalid. It is reproducible. If media is
inserted in my CD/DVD reader/writer, and I try to use Places on the
Ubuntu menu (nautilus), then Nautilus crashes pretty quickly. I did look
at other bugs, and one with CD/USB in the title was marked invalid;
otherwise I would have attached to that bug.

Here are my logs:
