Actually, that error should only happen when you try to change your
*own* name. The fact that the name seems to change while it doesn't is
an unrelated bug that should be easy to fix.
I'd need deeper debugging to understand what's going on. Could you install the

Not the same as 384304 suggests it doesn't think it's on battery at all,
where as on my netbook for example it will charge the battery up, and be
happy at 100% but then:
At 100% charge, gnome-power-manager does not correctly update if AC
power is disconnected to return to battery operation, and

I am using VPCYS1E (Y Series) Sony Vaio notebook, I am using Ubuntu 9.04 with
2.6.31-20-generic kernel. I am also experiencing same issue, i couldn't control
screen brightness with any of gnome and linux tools . I have tried disabling
Acpi from kernel also tried acpi_backlight=vendor but
