Update: that didn't quite do it. I got the secondary profile up and running
perfectly, but the primary still gives the errors. I get to a terminal in
the primary profile by waiting for a window to popup, asking me to update my
encryption passphrase (which I never had before). It lets me run
"ecrypt

I've also noticed that the screen doesn't lock in the following
circumstance:
1. Open a right-click menu.
2. Suspend the machine.
3. Wake the machine.
The right-click menu will still be open, and the screen will not be

patching of gpm, I think this patch is wrong:

As an additional anecdote, I would point out that I've had worse luck
with burning large images (iso to DL disks) with growisofs as a backend,
and in the end I resorted to using wodim which worked perfectly. So,
not all alternatives are ideal.

menu on panel. With upgrade to lucid lynx, the problem is solved.

Just performed a dist-upgrade (20-03-2010 21:50 EET).
Nautilus is still crashing but now it gives a more interesting message:

I patched it to use icedax and it works now for me.
Maybe brasero should depend on icedax by default as rhythmbox also uses brasero
to copy audio CDs.
(which doesn't work, it creates a new CD with sr0 as a file to copy)

While the patch fixes the issue where Xsession was writing a LANGUAGE
variable with incorrect syntax, now we've got a situation where:
• GDM can only write LANG (and the LC_xx categories)
• language-selector can write LANGUAGE
• That effectively means that the language one selects in GDM is useles
