[Bug 542809] Re: all mp3 songs removed from que on start of music player

2010-03-28 Thread GnuShoes
I am only concerned because one PC did not require me to mount the drive
first while the second PC required me to mount the drive. The simplicity
of Ubuntu (Not having to go to the terminal as often as some of the
other Linux releases) is one of it's outstanding traits.

[Bug 550101] [NEW] Export of keys and keyrings is not available

2010-03-28 Thread Tranzistors
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

When I try to export key or keyring, the menu is grayed out. Thus I
cannot make backups of my keys.

That would be only a inconvenience, if I could just backup keys by
copying seahorse configuration directory. I guess I can do that, if only
I knew, where it actually is. It is certainly NOT .gnupg, because when I
delete it (in recovery mode, as root), the keys are still there and
.gnupg folder is as good as new.

It would be very nice to do something about this. When I made a keyring
and put all my brand new passwords there, the seahorse somehow managed
to lose all keys in it.

This is a regression on earlier functionality nothing more.

This is not a new feature. This is a reimplementation of an existing

[Bug 433651] Re: no text wrap when typing in the message entry

2010-03-28 Thread Tom Verdaat
I can confirm this bug in Lucid Beta 1.

Text wrap works as it should if the IRC room contactlist is disabled
(uncheck Conversation Show contactlist). If you enable the
contactlist, the window automatically grows (width only) when typing
texts longer than the window width. It does not wrap text in the input
field anymore.

Also, I noticed that the window already starts widening before you've
reached the end of the input field. Looks like the right part of the
input field that remains blank is about the same width as the default
width of the contactlist. Can't confirm that though, because I had
already made it smaller.

This bug is really annoying, especially on small screens like netbooks.
The window is able to grow beond the size of the desktop itself. I've
tried maximizing the window, but even then it still widens further. A
part just drops off the screen. This makes it a real usability bug so I
think the importance should be higher than the current 'low'.

[Bug 550118] [NEW] Opening new tabs in nautilus loses focus for typing file names

2010-03-28 Thread robket
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Middle clicking a folder/bookmark in nautilus opens it as a new tab. In
lucid it switches automatically to that tab (useful). However, somewhere
in this process focus is lost as if one is to start typing, in order to
jump to a specific file, it does not react at all. Clicking doesn't help
either and in order for one to fix this one needs to switch back to the
original tab, click a file/folder and then switch back to your new tab
and then type-jumping should work again.

@Devin Walters Yes, and I fundamentally disagree with pretty much every

So what? He's response to all users is his billions of dollars invest in
something that is given to you for prize ZERO!
You know what a real democracy is? When you go to the Microsoft site and
complain about your unstable system, than in a very democratic way you'll gonna
be kicked off in a less than second, telling you that you are responsible for
your unstable system. Now that's the real democracy!

[Bug 506404] Re: System menu in top panel also shows logout/shutdown when using indicator-applet-complete

2010-03-28 Thread Conscious User
Ted, I like to move the clock to the middle of the panel, and therefore
using indicator-applet-complete makes more sense because with it I can
benefit from full mouse scrubbing. I don't consider moving the clock to
be serious tweaking, and having partial mouse scrubbing despite all
indicators being together feels very strange

[Bug 550118] Re: Opening new tabs in nautilus loses focus for typing file names

2010-03-28 Thread Stefano Rivera
I can reproduce this.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

- Middle clicking a folder/bookmark in nautilus opens it as a new tab. In
- lucid it switches automatically to that tab (useful). However, somewhere
- in this process focus is lost as if one is to start typing, in order to
- jump to a specific file, it does not react at all. Clicking doesn't help
- either and in order for one to fix this one needs to switch back to the
- original tab, click a file/folder and then switch back to your new tab
- and then type-jumping should work again.
+ Middle clicking a folder/bookmark in nautilus opens it as a new tab.
+ In lucid it switches automatically to that tab (if there are files within
that directory, which is a bug in its own right).
+ However, the focus moves from the content to the tab bar, so typing a
filename won't locate that item until the user changes focus to the content
pane.
+
+ In fact, the focus can't be changed with the mouse, but you have to
+ press the Down key.

[Bug 549810] Re: Newly created groups don't show up in users-admin

2010-03-28 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 475974 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/475974

Actually, I think that's a duplicate of bug 475974. What happens is that
the first time you open the group settings dialog, the GID is set to 0,
and group creation fails. Just close and launch the dialog again, and it
works. This is fixed for a long time with users-admin 2.28.2, but Karmic
only has 2.28.1.

Sadly, I don't think somebody is going to work on a backport of the (trivial
fix) now. Quoting Martin Pitt on the other report:
If we have another g-s-t SRU in karmic, this can be slipped in,
but I think it's not serious enough to warrant the effort of an SRU by itself.

Thanks for testing anyway, I believe that in Lucid users-admin will be
much more reliable.

2010-03-28 Thread zszoet
Hi! To better help you with the problem, please answer the following questions
aside from what's asked above:
1. How did you set the screensaver and what are the settings?
2. Do you have a specific screensaver to be activated?

I have my machine set to have blank screen after an hour of idleness.
Checked the Lock screen when screensaver is active, which will require
me to enter my password to activated desktop again for use.

2010-03-28 Thread ejetzer
I do not know if it occured on other computers (if that is what you mean
by reproducible), but it happens every time I let the computer idle and
the screensver goes on. I can also freeze the computer by locking the
screen, or by suspending activity.

I had set the screensaver in Karmic before the upgrade, and haven't
touched the settings since. When I tried to go deactivate the
screensaver because of the freezing, it froze the computer. I have the
fireworks display screensaver (I don't remember the name, and I cannot
go check it).

[Bug 390001] Re: Gnome visual effects not retained after reboot

2010-03-28 Thread Russel Winder
Isn't the problem actually in GConf?

Ever since switching from Metacity to Compiz in Jaunty, the state of the
Compiz systems has failed to be stored on logout. In particular, Gnome
thinks it is supposed to be using Metacity but Metacity fails to start
so no window manager. This means manually setting Compiz and waiting
for it to scan the device drivers. The Compiz state is also reset so I
have to manually switch of the Snapping Windows which I really dislike.
Fianlly the state of the workspace switcher has to be reset to what I
want as that fails to be remembered across logins.

The upgrade from Karmic to Lucid hasn't helped so I guess this is not a
distribution thing, just a configuration thing that doesn't get altered
across upgrades.

[Bug 549654] Re: no keyboard indicator applet

2010-03-28 Thread marmuta
which displays automatically when you configure multiple keyboard layouts
 Why is it bad?
I have multiple keyboard layouts setup all the time but I'm only occasionally
switching between them for example. There is no reason for me to have the
layout switcher cluttering up precious panel space. I've been desperate enough
to track down and look through the source code in gnome-settings-daemon for a
toggle, but the logic seems pretty hard-coded. There really needs to be a way
to hide the layout switcher, at least with a gconf key.

[Bug 535322] Re: no gui options to switch title bar buttons back to right side

2010-03-28 Thread A. Richard Miller
Our thoughts:
1. We find this irksome (inconsistent with most other computers, illogical and
demanding of extra attention, particularly on netbooks). We want to encourage
converts to GNU/Linux (our clients and more), not discourage them.
2. Keep the Close button at extreme upper right, like the Delete key on a
well-designed keyboard.
3. Do not experiment with the DEFAULT layout. Certainly, not in a LTS release.
4. Thanks for all your good work. We want it to succeed!

[Bug 548891] [NEW] keyboard input broken at gnome login prompt after package updates

2010-03-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

VMWare Player 3.0.1 build-227600
Host OS: Windows XP
Guest OS: Ubuntu 10.04 Beta, Kernel 2.6.32-17-generic

After installing a slew of Ubuntu updates on 3/26/2010 keyboard input at
the gnome login prompt no longer works. The mouse does work and I am
able to use the 'on-screen keyboard' accessibility tool to input my
password and gain entry. After logging in, there does not seem to be
any problems using the keyboard, I experience the problem only at the
gnome login screen.

I suspected that after updating that possibly some of the vmware drivers
may not be working correctly, so I ran vmware-config-tools.pl to
recompile the tools, which didn't work. I've tried a couple of cycles
of rebooting the VM and restarting vmware player, which hasn't resolved
the problem either.

I've attached the portion of the apt history.log showing the packages
that were applied during the update.

[Bug 550198] [NEW] LVM bugs in Grub2 (Ubuntu 10.04 B1)

2010-03-28 Thread A. Richard Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Yes, it's a beta. And we're just learning LVM. And it's on a 9 netbook.
But a short WARNING MESSAGE, that your current LVM implementation has a
known shortfall in Grub2, would have saved days of wasted effort.

Promise: LVM promises to add space to this Asus 901 netbook, which has
no hard drive; instead, it performs nicely with a fast 4GB SSD and a
slower 16GB one (with its RAM upped from 1GB to 2). We run / on the fast
drive, /home on the slow drive, and wanted to use LVM to spread /usr
across the spare space on both drives.

The GUI looked smooth - after we found good Fedora documentation. All we needed
to know at the outset, was:
NOTE: This Beta has faulty Grub2 support for LVM, which should be corrected in
the next Beta.

Thanks for all you do.

This bug is about how there is no gui option to switch the buttons back

whether the window button positioning should be kept. Appropriate
comments regarding the new window buttons are welcome at bug #532633.

[Bug 544095] Re: System BIOS Date Time Change

2010-03-28 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Thanks for you report. I think you should read more about how to write a
useful report before we go on trying to fix your problems. First, you
should never report several unrelated bugs at the same time. For each
bug, we need a precise procedure about how to reproduce it, and many
details, which may involve a few technical steps. Also, you second point
about webpages is more of an help request: please go to the Ubuntu
forums for this. Developers and triagers don't have the time to help all
users!

Please see:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs
and especially:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Writing%20a%20useful%20report
and then open a new report. Thanks!

[Bug 550054] Re: Power Manager Not putting Monitor to Sleep

2010-03-28 Thread Todd Morgan
Additional Info:

I noticed that when I set the power monitor to put my monitor to sleep,
that after the appropriate time has elapsed, a new icon appears in the
indicator area. When I move the mouse to see what it says, it
immediately goes away. After having looked through the icons in the
default Lucid theme, the icon is the view-full-screen icon. The screen
is not being powered down, but it would appear that there is an event of
some kind happening in correlation with the time that I set the monitor
to power down.

[Bug 544084] [NEW] date and time applet mix up and turns unreadable

2010-03-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm using the 10.4 beta 1 on a laptop. Sometimes date and time mix up on
the top panel (I'v got them on the top - right corner, as default), and
the system show the date two times, instead of date + time.

Actually, since the room is poor, it shows only 1 date and a half, like
this: Mon 22 March Mon 2, instead of Mon 22 March 11:25.

It happened 3 times yesterday, and next time it happens I will take a
screenshot.

It's always fixed by doing a restart.

[Bug 532844] Re: Lucid: White symbols on light panel and Ubuntu Logo are difficult to see

2010-03-28 Thread paradoxheart
The correct package for this bug is ubuntu-mono, as this is where the
icons for the login screen actually reside at the moment. I have
attached a suggestion for replacement icons which are the existing icons
recoloured using the same dark grey colour from the Radiance theme
icons. Note that if you decide to install these icons manually, you'll
have to remove /usr/share/icons/LoginIcons/icon-theme.cache or you will
continue to see white icons on the login screen.
