[Bug 530191] Re: Incorrect timezone selected in gnome clock applet
No I have not filed any upstream bugs. My search lead to this page: https://launchpad.net/libgweather and I couldn't find where to go further. I am afraid, I don't think I can contribute a quality patch myself yet. -- Incorrect timezone selected in gnome clock applet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/530191 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 575159] Re: Rhythmbox eats a HUGE amount of memory on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (even if no music is running)
I installed and ran Valgrind, and tried to follow your instructions. Rhythmbox does not crash, so I just let it run for a while and then closed the program. I also started a song and stopped it. The log grew to 2.5 GB... I then killed rhythmbox and restarted it, just letting it idle over night. The process explorer showed somewhere about 4GB memory consumption... Note that on my old home PC, I was not able to reproduce this behaviour. Maybe this older machine is 32-bit and the machine where the faulty behavior can be noticed is 64-bit? ** Attachment added: Valgrind rhythmbox - log - idle program most of the time http://launchpadlibrarian.net/47846319/valgring-log-rhythmbox.tar.gz -- Rhythmbox eats a HUGE amount of memory on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (even if no music is running) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 531173] Re: New Lucid keyboard layout indicator does not indicate current layout
Karmic, up through any current updates, uses icons with numeric subscripts indicating variants of the basic keyboards for a language. Eliminating that feature (actually in a redesigned program) is a definite regression. By the way, I designed the original US-International layout for Windows 2.11 in 1987, for Olivetti and Microsoft. This was redesigned the next year for Windows 3.0, with the advice of a Nokia engineer, to provide Nordic language support. Visually indicating variant keyboard selections has been an issue ever since. Recent XP versions use one icon or other indicator to indicate the base language, and another to show variants, when more than one variant is enabled. Also XP provides a keyboard switching option something like control- shift+number key to select various layouts, instead of toggling or cycling through the enabled combinations. It's too easy otherwise to enable the wrong keyboard, without the icon showing definitely which layout is being used - this leads to confusion and typos. There is a KDE keyboard indicator program, which I haven't tried - it apparently has user-configurable icons. I don't know if that covers this situation. -- New Lucid keyboard layout indicator does not indicate current layout https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531173 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 553162] Re: Unset $LANGUAGES if the user picks a different locale in gdm
This was just discussed in #ubuntu-desktop. The basic problem here is that language-selector now is able to set system-wide locale settings which gdm does not understand. gdm is only able to set a locale (i. e. $LANG), while language-selector can set a locale and additionally a language list (which overrides LC_MESSAGES from $LANG) in $LANGUAGE. I think a reasonable compromise would be: * As long as the locale picked in gdm matches the system locale, keep $LANGUAGE, since it's explicit configuration that the admin did for this machine, and we need to respect it. (cf. bug 407300) * Once the user selects a different locale, $LANGUAGES should be unset. This can be one of: - $LANGUAGES is set system-wide, and $GDM_LANG != the system wide locale - $LANGUAGES is set in ~/.profile, and $GDM_LANG != $LANG set from ~/.profile or ~/.dmrc This needs to be done in /etc/gdm/Xsession. ** Changed in: gdm (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Triaged ** Summary changed: - Unset $LANGUAGES if the user picks a different locale in gdm + Unset $LANGUAGES if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing -- Unset $LANGUAGES if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553162 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I don't know if this is the problem the OP is facing, for me I went to the settings for startup applications in the GNOME control panel and checked the Empathy entry. Then I reboot. When the desktop comes up again, empathy is started up, but the status is offline. I have to manually select the online status, then it connects. The Automatically connect at startup is checked in the Empathy settings. For me the problem appears to be that the command in the startup settings is empathy --no-connect. [Bug 488048] Re: keyboard layout needs to be reset after each login
Ooh, I see what's wrong. I think you _expect_ to have us altgr-intl and bg phonetic. However, in gdm (the login manager) you selected us alt-intl instead of us altgr-intl (which can be seen in ~/.dmrc in the Layout= line). An explicit selection in gdm adds the new layout unless it was already configured. So all you need to do is to fix the layout in the login manager once. ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- keyboard layout needs to be reset after each login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488048 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Even the same issue with lenovo y410 with 10.04, brightness keys are not getting captured in any input/eventX All other features work fine. including automatic brightness control. There is a crazy issue with this laptop. brightness value varies from 0 - 5 and 5 - 10 where 5 being the least and 0 or 10 being the heighest. to calrify more, if I use the brightness applet, the brightness is least when the slider is in the middle and increases on either side. [Bug 574067] Re: Network Admin Tool Missing Connection Tab
I can't help myself, but I have to comment here. If this is a design decision, it is really a very poor one. So now: a) Documentation is misleading users. b) There's no sensible way to connect using a modem.
