[Bug 589541] [NEW] MSN seemingly silently dump messages

2010-06-04 Thread Eax
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

1)
Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

2)
empathy:
  Installed: 2.30.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.30.1-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.30.1-0ubuntu1 0

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.30.0.1-0ubuntu3 0
500 http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages

3) What I expected to happen:
I expected the message I had just sent to be delivered to my chat-partner.

4) It seemingly silently dumped the messages no matter the length.

This seems to happen after I have left empathy running for some time
without using it / using the computer.

Re: [Bug 544847] Re: cant browse/mount windows shares in nautilus 10.04

2010-06-04 Thread Michael
I can Plus One to the clean install fixing the problem, its an inconvenience
i know but it makes the problem go away..

Hope you have some success soon..

gpala...@grupo2g.comwrote:

 zxMarce,

sorry to hear it didn't work for you.

From what I see, the difference is that you upgraded. I did a clean
install. As you can see from other posts, those who made a clean
install got rid of the problem.

In 9.04 and 9.10 the problem I had was with password protected shares
only, and adding those 2 lines to smb.conf fixed it. Now in 10.04 I
could not mount any share until I added the 2 lines. I have 3 computers
now with 10.04 and all of them are doing fine with the samba shares (one
 laptop and 2 desktops).

 Good luck!

[Bug 584183] Re: Evolution crashes almost randomly

2010-06-04 Thread ubuntolo
Hi gabak, forgive me, but I'm not sure that it's a size related bug. With my
Evolution archive, approximately 400 MB of e-mails, the bug still happens, so I
think that the size is not important at all.
Forgive me, but still I have no time to produce the backtrace, I hope that you
can use the one produced by Rick in the meanwhile.

[Bug 80921] Re: No subpixel rendering

@Tobias Wolf

That's not what I meant. I did notice that there was an official,
unpatched package that was more recent than yours but I didn't install
it. I'm sure I have your patched versions installed but PDFs are still
rendered using greyscale-antialiasing. I checked with xmag.

Adobe Reader does it right (tested with the same file). Any ideas what
couldbe wrong?

[Bug 253167] Re: Rhythmnbox sort by Album Artist for guest/compilations

2010-06-04 Thread Piedro Kulman
This way of sorting is really a pain !
For people just buing single mp3s from common download locations the actual
browse by artist works allright,
though even in this case you want to get rid of the various featuring this guy
or that guy-stuff as appendix to the artist you want to look for.

if you, like me, are an album guy, then sorting by album artist gets
mandatory for the reasons stated by the op.

I believe it should even be the default setting for the browser.
iTunes does it this way for many years now and there's a lot to say against
Apple but they put a huge effort into researching the best usability. Still ALL
linux music management programs ignore this albumartist issues.

I strongly believe rhythmbox (as banshee / exaile / gmpd ...) should sort by
album artist by default (like iTunes does)
and offer an easy way (by clicking on the browserbar e.g.) to choose another
criteria like artist, composer (to be even more usable and less restrictive
than iTunes!)

This can't be that hard to do!

thx for reading,
piedro

[Bug 589141] Re: When scrolling in Totem 2.30.2 The scrollbar moves inconsistently

2010-06-04 Thread Pako
I apologize that I am late with answer. Here is the video I made so you
can see how the scrollbar jumps all over the bar when scrolling on my

can also compare with older version of Totem or even with Karmic. Ok,
maybe is not a big deal, but is remarkable from aesthetic point of view.
Thanks!

Whilst the nomodeset parameter alleviates the problem it reduces
graphics performance substantially. So, I'd only consider it a temporary

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-06-04 Thread Inox
** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: gnome-panel
+ Binary package hint: gnome-panel, nm-applet, etc...

- I'm using karmic x86_64, updated as of 2009-09-30.
+ SUMMARY:

- It's very hard to describe the bug, so a screen shot is attached.
+ After graphical logon notification area gets scrambled. Icons are in
+ terrible mess. Some of them are overlapping others. Sometimes network
+ manager icon is missing. Sometimes phantom icons show up. They can be
+ clones of any other icons in the notification area. Bug affects any
+ graphics card: ATI, nVidia, Intel...

- As seen on the screen shot, after start up the notification area gets
- scrambled, it shows, in case of this screen shot, two volume control
- icons, one of them is the actual volume control icon, and the other one
- is just a copy of it, it just sits there, clicking on it doesn't do
- anything, and right clicking on it will bring the standard notification
- area sub-menu. Also missing here is a network manager icon.
+ WAY TO FIX IT FOR THE CURRENT SESSION:

- However:
- The phantom icon can be a clone of any other icon in the notification area.
I've seen already phantoms of bluez icons, network manager icons and so on. And
the missing icon, can also be any of the other icons, there is no rule or
consistency :)
+ When you get your icons distorted right-click on the affected panel (not
+ icons) click Properties. In Panel Properties change panel
+ orientation to Left or Right and back to Top or Bottom. In my
+ case all icons are displayed properly, but one (nm-applet) is missing.

- Also, killing the application with a missing icon will remove the phantom
icon, starting the application afterwards will show a correct functioning icon.
- In the case of this screen shot, the missing icon was of a nm-applet, so
after I killed the nm-applet, one of the volume icons (the phantom one)
disappeared, I then started the nm-applet again, and the correct icon for it
appeared and worked as intended.

- I haven't seen any related messages in the logs for this.
- If you need more information and/or some additional testing,I will be glad to
do it.

2010-06-04 Thread Teej
This bug has been marked Triaged and has been assigned to the Ubuntu
Desktop Team to work on. Inox is correct in that there should be enough
information here, and we're pretty sure it's a gnome-panel issue.
Upstream has been notified although it appears that it only affects
Ubuntu at present.

All affected users: Please refrain from changing the description on the bug
report, that is for BugSquad/BugControl/Original Reporter to do. You can edit
your own duplicates as much as you like, we have access to them and the
debugging information (if any) contained therein. If you must do something
constructive, add yourself to the Affects me option at the top left of the
bug report.
Thanks guys :)

[Bug 589636] [NEW] Typing monitor normal icon shouldn't be green

2010-06-04 Thread Alexey Kotlyarov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

In the default Ubuntu themes - Ambiance and Radiance, the indicators are
all gray when they do not draw attention to themselves. Typing break
indicator is an exception - it is drawn green in normal (lots of time

[Bug 80921] Re: No subpixel rendering

2010-06-04 Thread Tobias Wolf
Did you try a number of PDF files? It seems that some types of PDF are
always grayscale by virtue of how the fonts are embedded in them. PDF
documents generated by OpenOffice are among those for instance.

I don’t feel terribly confident with these patches at all to be frank.
It would be good if a person who knows what she is doing were to take a
look at this and have a go at a proper solution.

[Bug 589605] Re: rhythmbox crashes when modifying an automatic playlist

2010-06-04 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 589607] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast()

2010-06-04 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the
developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack
trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your
problem.

[Bug 589656] Re: help - report a problem doesn't work on Maverick

Noticed that /proc/pid/exe , /proc/pid/cwd and /proc/pid/root are not
longer accessible for the user they can only be seeing by root. Linux
issue perhaps?

[Bug 587830] Re: While playing any song in rythmbox, status bar not respond!

2010-06-04 Thread Daniel Glassey
I mean install (or reinstall) gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly. You don't need
to downgrade to the earlier version of rhythmbox.

sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly

[Bug 587658] Re: problems with long messages

2010-06-04 Thread Frederico Costa Galvão
I'm having a very similar problem with Empathy on Lucid right now.
Realized that a long message sent by others to me, appear in the preview
upper-right-side translucid popup, but wont show on the chat window at all.
It is not recognized as an error by the debug tool. Instead it leads me to the
log of the chat, where the message appears correctly.
One thing to note is, there is a pattern for msgs that does not appear or
seems to have been received:
They are the ones with a breakline between the start and the end of the tag
message.

[Bug 575410] Re: clock-applet freezes when clicking on time

2010-06-04 Thread Marc L. de Bruijn
Strangely enough, it's just started working for me this week. (ie. not
crashing on click). I had assumed that whatever was causing this was
fixed during one of the Update Manager's routine updates.

Regards,
