[Bug 304765] Re: Evolution mail renames attached pdf's to dat's...

2010-06-15 Thread Jan Korpegård
Since nobody is paying attention to this bug, and it is still a problem
for me in the latest version of Ubuntu, I will try to re-open it and
submit the information needed.

Attached is a screendump showing two almost identical email. The only
difference is the name of the attached file. One is named meeting.txt
and the other was named möte.txt when I sent it (meeting is möte
in Swedish). After sending it from Evolution from an updated Ubuntu
10.04, the attechment is named ATT345267.txt when received in
Microsoft Outlook 2007.

[Bug 594472] [NEW] Can't select default Gnome keyboard layout different from the system default one

2010-06-15 Thread ElBastardo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

How to reproduce in 10.04 (previous releases work correctly):
1) During the installation select a default keyboard layout (e.g. USA)
2) In Gnome, add some local keyboard layout (CZ or something) and move it to
the top of the list to make it default
3) Logout a log in again, USA layout is selected by default

[Bug 589743] Re: label the photos chapter, in the help menu, isn't fully translated in italian

2010-06-15 Thread Milo Casagrande
Applications documentation is not translatable via Launchpad. This bug
should be forwarded upstream.

Keep in mind that f-spot documentation is not translated at all
upstream, so this rather then being a bug is a wishlist.

I'm marking it as invalid since there is no translation at all upstream.

[Bug 310000] Re: Keyboard shortcuts don't stick with multiple keymappings

2010-06-15 Thread surreal
For the record, my workaround involves setting system and user layouts
to be _different_ from each other.

But that might be a moot point. I don't know what caused this (I don't
remember doing anything other than installing chromium-browser and
messing around with Gnome default browser setting), but the workaround
stopped working, at least partially -- Metacity shortcuts work, g-s-d
ones don't. Logging out and in again still hides the bug, so I will turn
off autologin as another work-around for now.

Unfortunately I don't have access to the other (good) system now. At
the evening I will have.
Interestingly, I didn't have this package either and problem lived in
the system.
And installing it, didn't change anything.
Second. I did reinstall all the packages that have 'font' or 'poppler'
either in the description or in the name.
Plus I did sudo fc-cache. And the problem still persists.

But now, I did remove the package ttf-symbol-replacement from my wrong
system and the doc looks perfect.
Installed, wrong, deinstalled, good.

So thanks for the help.

[Bug 591500] Re: Gnome Screensaver Doesn't Fade Out

2010-06-15 Thread Nandox7
Hey,

Because I like the fade effect as well I made a patch for it.

It creates a new gconf key called fa_on_lock_enabled that toggles the fade
effect.
By default is FALSE but when TRUE it enables it.

This seems a better approach, if there is any interest in it I can
improve it.

I'm attaching the patch file in here ready to be placed in debian/patches
folder and to
build the package.

[Bug 593226] Re: gnome panels suddenly have a 25 second delay after session load

2010-06-15 Thread Freddie
Since this problem occurred (I don't know when as it's another user who
uses gnome and reported the issue to me) I've ran multiple full updates
and the problem persisted.

However, I had allowed her to login with no password. Using the
System-Administration-Users and Groups dialogue reported that her
account was disabled (presumably as it had no password). As root I used
passwd to set her account password to a non-null value and then the
Users and Groups dialogue reported nothing special about her account
(The dialogue always reported that the password was asked at login). On
login she was still not asked for a password (as I'd configured pam to
require no password, see below) but the problem persisted.

I'd allowed her to login with no password since before GNOME had an
option allowing this - I'd put a line in /etc/pam.d/gdm which read

auth sufficient pam_listfile.so item=user sense=allow
file=/etc/gdm/nopassusers.txt onerr=fail

(and added her username to /etc/gdm/nopassusers.txt). Commenting out
this line meant that gdm asked her for her password and the problem was
gone.

Further, I tried un-commenting this line and removing her from
nopassusers.txt and the problem stayed fixed. I then created a new user.
With the line uncommented: if the new user was in nopassusers.txt
problem occurred, if not no problem (even though the user had a properly
defined password). the option Don't ask for password on login in the
Users and Groups dialogue was greyed out for me (as root or not), and
searching gave no clues, so I can't test that.

So for me this looks as if it's arising from pam and gdm somewhere.

[Bug 594521] [NEW] I cannot install new gnome-screensaver themes

2010-06-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I've followed the instructions in:
http://live.gnome.org/GnomeScreensaver/FrequentlyAskedQuestions#How_can_I_create_a_new_theme_for_a_pre-existing_theme_engine.3F,
but I cannot get any new themes installed.

I've removed all the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications/screensavers/,
but the themes persisted, even after reboot. Only after a system update the
themes were deleted. I copied them back, but they don't appear.

Here they mention a workaround,
http://ohioloco.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9463283#post9463283, but the
screensaver configuration is not working as claimed in the faqs.

[Bug 594521] Re: I cannot install new gnome-screensaver themes

2010-06-15 Thread Mitch Towner
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in gnome-screensaver.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 594521] Re: I cannot install new gnome-screensaver themes

2010-06-15 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

No, we don't want to add a gconf key for it. The X server bug that this
change works around affects every driver with the exception of the
proprietary NVIDIA driver. We're not going to provide a key to allow for
most users to break their systems.

2010-06-15 Thread Duncan Clough
Swell Foop crashes with the essentially the same libclutter-
glx-1.0.so.0.200.4 message in /var/log/messages. The crash happens
almost every time I quickly move the mouse outside of the Swell Foop
window. It doesn't always crash is the mouse is already near the
border, but always happens if the mouse is nearer the centre of the
window.

I haven't experienced a crash while playing if I've kept the mouse
inside the Swell Foop window.

Unfortunately this is on Lucid and not Maverick.

Ok this should be fixed with nautilus 2.31.X, now a transparent icon is
presented to the user so they can determine easily which files were cut
there, marking this as dup of bug 194213

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: nautilus

The moved file remains by looking
at, but the cutpaste was successful in fact. The following steps
 shows how to reproduct.

 - Create ~/tmp1 and ~/tmp2
 - Open those directories with nautilus.
 - Create files named foo, bar and baz, respectively in tmp1.
 - Search files with keyword ba and cutpaste it to tmp2.
 - Then, you will see both bar and baz remaining in the tab in which
 you firstly opend tmp1.

I cannot see if this is a bug or a proper spec. I encountered this
when I was laying out my photos. Since I assumed that the tab used for
search would behave in the same way two tabs without search operation
does, I misunderstood that the file was still there.

 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10

[Bug 538612] Re: cursor blinks even when terminal doesn't have focus

2010-06-15 Thread Giannis Papaioannou
This is a valid bug. I have upgraded lucid to the latest updates.

In a screen with 10 gnome-terminal windows, a random half of them have a
blinking cursor. Some windows behave normal, which is no focus no
blinking. When I open a new gnome-terminal, the cursor in that window
blinks only when it has focus. But after a while, without apparent
reason, some cursors blink permanently, even in windows I never typed
anything.

I have no idea what triggers the bug, it seems totally random.

[Bug 594527] Re: evolution-data-server-2.28 crashed with SIGSEGV

2010-06-15 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
I do not know if it is because of the above crash, but later I wished to
contact a firm and the website apparently sent a request to the default email
client. No doubt when I tried-out Evolution the other day, it made itself
default. I must change that...
Anyway, it brought up an Evolution window for email composing. Since that
contained information that I needed to write the email myself at the aol site,
I tried to cut-and-paste the address into my browser searchbar (just somewhere
to put it - I've often found it a useful place to stuff things I will need
sooner or later, when I don't have an editor/wordprocessor up. But I
digress...), but cut-and-paste did not function, so I had to write the address
down by hand. (Bug? I don't know. In my opinion, everywhere there exists
text that is text, it should be cut-and-pasteable.)
Anyway, Evolution put up a window saying it wanted a password to unlock some
keyring or other. I did not want Evolution to do anything with anything, so I
said Deny. It went away, and came back. Repeatedly. I got rid of the
compose window (I don't know if it was cancel or close window) The
password window kept coming back, and I kept denying it.
Finally, I had to put up a terminal, type htop, and search for processes
having to do with Evolution. I was surprised to find that there was still a
process with details about the email-compose window. I selected it, hit F9,
and selected SIGKILL. I think that did it. So far, no more password window.
The above terminal process was not as quick as it looks, as the password window
kept coming back and eating keystrokes intended for htop or terminal, and
trying to make a password from them.

If I was unlikely to use Evolution before this incident, guess what the odds
are now...?
Any more issues, and I will remove the package (after dealing with my poor
captive emails, of course...)

This may or may not be a separate bug from the one that crashed E-data-
server. I have no idea. It is reasonable to suppose that the crash
caused problems.

[Bug 593477] Re: Use VP8/WebM as the default video codec/format

2010-06-15 Thread Dominic Evans
I think you'll find that the official ffmpeg trunk has only had vpx
encoding for around 12 days, and webm muxing for about 8 days. Maverick
is still on ffmpeg 0.5.1 (0.5.2 is latest official release) and Ubuntu
tracks releases rather than svn snapshots.

I'd hence hypothesis that the bugs you've raised again 'project
(Ubuntu)' packages are all invalid until a) (at the very least) ffmpeg
and gstreamer have made official releases with vpx and webm support and
b) the upstreams for each of the projects have similarly made releases
with support for vpx and webm either through their own direct linking
against libvpx etc., or via ffmpeg/gstreamer prereq

[Bug 370990] Re: Some files and folders problems in Ubuntu 9.04

2010-06-15 Thread 836v
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Hi,

Sometimes when I drag and drop a file from desktop to my personal folder
it does not move it from the original location but it is just copied to
the destination folder. So, then I get 2 files in 2 locations. Only
opening the destination folder and trying it again it moves correctly
the file (i.e., copying it to new location AND erasing it from the old
location). This also happens moving files from and to other folders.

Otherwise, sending to the USB pendrive a folder with other files and
folders into it, it just copies the folder to the USB memory. . But it
is empty, without any of the files or other folders included on it.

  Ubuntu version: 9.04, hardware: laptop HP 6735b, ZM80, 2Gb / 160Gb.

  Regards,
  Victor

[Bug 594600] [NEW] empathy conversation window jumps desktops on xmonad

2010-06-15 Thread grimborg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When I double click a contact to open a conversation, if there is
already a conversations window open, that window jumps to another
desktop. When I receive a message that would start a conversation and
click on it (in the messaging menu), the conversation window also jumps
to another desktop.

Enabling or disabling Show incoming messages in the messaging menu
setting doesn't affect this behavior.

Using Empathy 2.30.1 with gnome and xmonad 0.9.1 on Ubuntu 10.4.

[Bug 545062] Re: [lucid] icon in status bar not correctly transparent

The package gajim_0.13.4-0divius2~lucid0_i386 by divius fixes the
background issues in lucid. However it will get overwritten by an
upgrade if not kept explicitly.

Works like a charm for me, though. Thanks Divius.

Should be merged, if no severe problems found, imho.

[Bug 594135] Re: Automatic Playlist creation doesnt allow for partial ANDs or ORs

2010-06-15 Thread Blaine Whited
I should clarify, this is a request for an enhancement. As far as I can
tell, the current functionality is not broken, but rather incomplete.

I installed Lucid to a VM and saw the same issue, which leads me to
believe I failed at explaining my issue, for this I am sorry. The
problem is the GUI for creating an automatic playlist allows you to use
all ANDs or all ORs.

Ive posed the following example. (Screen-caps included)

Example assumptions:
I've added 4 fake songs to my library:
Title/Genre/Rating(out of 5)
Song1/Rock/4
Song2/Alternative/5
Song3/Punk/4
Song4/Rock/1

Desired result: An automatic playlist that allows me to add all
Rock/Alternative/Punk songs of rating 4 or greater...

Observed result: None. Creating a playlist in this way is not possible
currently because of limitations of the automatic playlist creation pop-
up.

Further info:
What I'm saying is, using the provided GUI for automatic playlist creation, I
can, at best, create a playlist that has all 4 fake songs using the settings
set in the automatic playlist creation pop-up. This is incomplete as I can
think of several cases where the gui fails to allow me to create specific
profiles.

Ideally, I would like to create a playlist with several different Genres
but only with the best songs. Or rather in this example, an automatic
playlist with Song1, Song2, and Song3. (and therefore, more good songs
as I add them...)

Additional comments:
I understand the desire to keep things simple/intuitive for users but that
doesn't mean functionality should be hindered as a result. I hope you agree.

Thanks for all your time and effort. It IS much appreciated.

[Bug 594625] [NEW] nautilus leaves the copy dialog in the indicator applet even if the transfer is completed

[Bug 534985] Re: Gnome print dialog box poll for printer info every time it's opened

2010-06-15 Thread Alex_L33
I have a local printer connected directly by USB (Epson sylus CX6600)
and the process still takes about ten seconds or more, so it can't be a
problem only with network-connected device.

A timeout option somewhere would be nice as most of the time i am quite
happy for it to just print with my default settings and not tell me any
information anyway.

Additionally, attempting to close the gnome-print dialogue should abort
the fetching printer information task rather than causing the program
from which one was attempting to print to hang while you wait.
