Hello!

I followed my own prcedure from the How to reproduce in Post Nr.6.

* F-Spot does not crash anymore.

Imho this Bug can be set to fixed, also #450456 seems to be fixed.

[Bug 578582] Re: timer doesn't go past 57 seconds.

2010-06-16 Thread johnmcd
The games I was playing were sudoku easy and hard. Ubuntu version 9.10.
After each game is completed it gives the time taken as well as the time
not active. There may be a lot of clever people out there who can do a
sudoku puzzle in less than a minute but I am not one of them My times
are more in the region of 25 - 30 minutes. Maybe the time field in the
program code is not large enough, Maybe the counter is in the wrong
place in the code and gets skipped over under certain conditions. For me
this is no big deal it's not as if there is some monetary reward for
tyhe fastest time however if I were the programmer there would be some
pride in knowing the program worked properly.

[Bug 594960] [NEW] Evolution hangs while filtering inboxes w/ IMAP setup

2010-06-16 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Unfortunately, I don't have much more at this moment than an expansion
of the summary.

Frequently, daily, actually, Evolution will hang while accessing IMAP
mailboxes and the status message usually hangs at:

0% Filtering New Messages

It'll sit that way for hours if I allow it to (I let it sit overnight
once just to see), and if I try to exit (via the X window button) the
window dims and still hangs forever. I usually have to pkill -9
evolution to get rid of it and start over.

This behaviour ALSO seems to occur sometimes when it's trying to access
an IMAP contact list as well (I have it configured to use Canonical's
IMAP directory for e-mail completion.)

So the common theme is IMAP usage.

I currently have it configured to use two IMAP mail servers, one for
work and one that is privately hosted by me in a remote datacenter.

[Bug 594967] [NEW] Cannot reload in presentation mode

2010-06-16 Thread Xavier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I'm designing pdf slides with pdflatex+beamer, so for better navigation
I view the document in presentation mode.

In the normal viewing mode, every time I modify the pdf file, evince
automatically reloads it (that's neat).

In presentation mode, evince does not automatically reload the document,
moreover typing Ctrl+R (Reload command) does not make evince reload the
document. I have to go back to normal mode (Esc), then the document is
automatically reloaded, and go back to presentation mode (F5).

I'm on Lucid Lynx, evince 2.30.1. To reproduce this bug:
1. create a latex file (possibly using beamer, not necessary)
2. compile it to pdf
3. open the pdf file with evince
4. switch evince to presentation mode (press F5)
5. modify the latex file
6. compile again to pdf
7. In evince, reload the document (Ctrl+R)

Expected result : evince displays the latest version of the pdf file
Actual result : evince displays the initial version of the pdf file

Importance : 3/5.
Disabling automatic reload in presentation mode could be considered as a
feature.
However, Ctrl+R must work, it looks like this feature has been forgotten.

[Bug 40872] Re: Desktop icons are allowed to overlap

2010-06-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
I subscribed the guy from the nautilus-elementary ppa just now -
maybe he/they are willing to incorporate this patch for easier testing.

the right way is to open a nautilus-elementary bug task, I've done that
now

But ... any idea, why the patch is not incorporated into upstream?

not sure, somebody should email it to the upstream mailing list for
review with an explanation of the change, the issue with changing the
grid is that most of the changes suggested over years fix a scenario to
break another usecase

Should be a simple fix, but I lack the know-how of the applet
internals and build system to fix it myself nor the time to figure it
out.

If somebody wants to send a patch the fix would be welcome, usually when
such bugs are open for a while that's because the code changes are not
as trivial as you could think

[Bug 594970] Re: Rhythmbox crashes into segfault with last.fm plugi

2010-06-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 572577] Re: some gnome-games fail to start upgrade to 10.04

2010-06-16 Thread DimXanthis
I didn't have any luck with running the games from the terminal neither
by using the name on its own, nor by the use of the full path. The
results where the same. Although it was much more easy to shut down the
not starting games, by closing the terminal and eventually killing the
process. When I tried to shut down the games after executing them
through the gui it took much more time, bringing my computer to it's
knees..

Can I post any report more useful than the ones i sent above? Please let
me know and help me to retrieve them!

Thank you.

2010-06-16 Thread Teej
Quick sidenote to the above. Your hard drive install and data will be
fine as long as you don't install the CD or do something out of the
ordinary, i.e. poking around your HD partitions. Think of the Live CD as
a complete OS the same that is on your HD; you can install stuff store
stuff etc, but only until reboot.

2010-06-16 Thread Teej
Just had a thought... the reason no-one is able to grab these crashes
with apport is because it is disabled when a release has been,
well...released (I should have thought of this). If you want to enable
it for one session you can do sudo service apport start force_start=1
and try to reproduce the crash. That is of course of you are not able to
reproduce it in Maverick. :)

PS Sorry about the spam ;)

[Bug 16492] Re: Mouse pointer should disappear when keyboard is in use and mouse isn't

2010-06-16 Thread David Balažic
Why is the mouse pointer so important while you type text?
Besides, it will appear the moment you touch the mouse.

Additional ideas, for v2.0 ;)
 - use a fade-in , fade-out effect instead of instant (dis/re)appearance
 - related to above comment: do not make pointer disappear completely, but fade
it to 10% opacity ? Maybe depending on what is under the mouse, if it changes,
make the pointer more transparent?
 - timeout for pointer hide: do not hide it right when the user starts typing,
but after some time, like 1 or 2 seconds

   * try to send a photo attached to an email with file - send
   * click on create to fire up thunderbird
   * come back to f-spot, and click on another photo
   * then, switch to thunderbird and send the email
 - do subsequent imports and see that the metadata (import date) isn't touched

[Bug 594967] Re: Cannot reload in presentation mode

2010-06-16 Thread Roth Róbert
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a

[Bug 572577] Re: some gnome-games fail to start upgrade to 10.04

2010-06-16 Thread Teej
Thank you for the update. Is there any output in the terminal at all
when you run the games? If so can you attach a file containing the
output, i.e. copy and paste it into a new file. If not, I see no other
option than to ask you to get a backtrace. Full instructions on how to
do this are at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace. You will need
debugging symbols installed to do this, and instructions for that are at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash. Hope this is able to help
you track down the problem. It may be a memory leak but I'd rather you
test this first. Thank you.

[Bug 595028] [NEW] Evolution LDAP connection no TLS even when specified

2010-06-16 Thread Feisar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

The first time I add an LDAP directory as an address book to Evolution,
specifying TLS it will not attempt TLS.

To recreate bug:

'New address book'
'On LDAP servers'
'server.example.com'
'port: 389'
'Use secure connection: TLS'
'Login method: Use distinguished name'
'Login: cn=u...@example.com,dc=example,dc=com'

'Search base: ou=Address Book,cn=u...@example.com,dc=example,dc=com'
'Browse this book until limit reached'

After entering this information and clicking on the address book,
Evolution will ask you for your password. After entering your password
Evolution will give you this error:

Error loading address book.
This address book cannot be opened. This either means that an incorrect URI
was entered, or the server is unreachable.
Detailed error message: Other error

LDAP will log this in it's logs:
slapd[7741]: conn=22 fd=23 ACCEPT from IP=IPA.DDR.ESS:52860 (IP=0.0.0.0:389)
slapd[7741]: conn=22 op=0 BIND dn=cn=u...@example.com,dc=example,dc=com
method=128
slapd[7741]: conn=22 op=0 RESULT tag=97 err=13 text=confidentiality required

Because, in this case, the connection _has_ to be TLS to be successful.

A combination of setting the address book to 'No encryption' then back
to 'TLS encryption' and restarting Evolution will result in Evolution
initiating a TLS connection and the LDAP directory search being
successful.

slapd[7741]: conn=26 fd=27 ACCEPT from IP=IPA.DDR.ESS:34093 (IP=0.0.0.0:389)

[Bug 595013] Re: eclipse doesn't start because of libgtk 2.20.1 provide with unity

2010-06-16 Thread Didier Roche
Thanks for your bug report and for testing unity, which version of gtk did you
have before downgrading?
2.20.1-0ubuntu2~menuproxy6 was the latest in the ppa, can you ensure you had
the crash with that one?
You can try unity without this gtk version, it's only for the appmenu testing
(menu in the panel).

FYI, with 2.21.1-1ubuntu3 and 2.21.2-0ubuntu1 on maverick, I don't see

[Bug 595037] [NEW] Evolution fails to add a contact list to a LDAP server

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution cannot add a contact list to a (Open)LDAP server.
Adding the same contact list to a local addressbook works nicely.
While I guess this could be related with the schemas used on the LDAP server, I
think the error message in Evolution is at least shorter than it could.
