[Bug 574212] Re: Nibbles - Unexpected Death
Just a clarification on the patch to make it easier to be merged upstream: In the shipping code the worm- list is reversed before the data of movement of the tail is captured. This provides the wrong answer. The patch ensures that the direction of the tail is computed before any changes are made to the current worm data. The existing code then _correctly_ reverses the old_dir because it represents the direction of motion of the tail rather than the direction in which the tail is pointing. The direction in which the tail is pointing prior to reversal is of course the direction that we want to finally assign as the new direction of motion. Hope that helps. -- Nibbles - Unexpected Death https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-games in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 606619] [NEW] gdm ignores the return code of PostLogin script
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm I have written a script that mounts a truecrypt partition after the user has logged in successfully. The script is placed at /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default and works fine in general. However, since at least Ubuntu 9.10 gdm ignores the return value from that script and continues the login process even when mounting fails and the script returns 1. This was not the case in earlier versions of Ubuntu, where the login process was terminated in such a case and the gdm login screen was shown again. The description of gdm says: The script should return 0 on success as otherwise the user won't be logged in. At least in Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04 (32 and 64 bit version) this is broken and i don't know any workaround for this bug. How to reproduce: 1) Create a file /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default and make it executable 2) Write the following code to the file: exit 1 3) Logout and login again. Expected result: Login should fail, as the script returns 1. Actual result: Login works as usual. I am not sure if this is a duplicate of bug #36177, therefore i am filling a new bug report. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gdm ignores the return code of PostLogin script https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606619 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 606624] [NEW] Nibbles - Unexpected Death upon rebirth (gnibbles)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-games As reported by others in the following thread: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-games/+bug/574212 The following 2 behaviours can be observed: 1) Death upon rebirth 2) Unexplained death during play (not associated with reversal) I will assume that the same cause underlies both. Investigation has shown me that in the case of (2) the program believes you are colliding with another worm (often number 6) when the display shows that the other worm is in a completely different area of the board. Therefore there is a discrepancy between the internal board representation (board-walls) and the screen representation (clutter actor). In the case of (1) I imagine that there is an 'invisible segment' of worm close to the point at which you are reborn with which you collide. Therefore you die immediately after rebirth, whereas if you manage to change direction immediately you can avoid death. I have not yet made any progress in finding or fixing the underlying bug. :-( ** Affects: gnome-games (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Nibbles - Unexpected Death upon rebirth (gnibbles) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606624 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-games in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets
I might have found a reliable workaround: Delaying the loading of the gnome-panel. I've been running this for two days now (and have restarted over 20 times in addition for testing) and I haven't seen the problem any more. Granted, this bug is really a pisser-offer that I can see hiding temporarily, but after every boot up of that day giving me corruption it had completely stopped since I have done the following: I created a tiny .sh script, placed in it my home folder, marked as executable, and then edited /usr/share/applications/gnome-panel.desktop so that exec=bash /home/user/script.sh In the script, I have simply put: --- #! /bin/bash sleep 3 gnome-panel exit --- (I couldn't get this to work in the gnome-panel.desktop files so I just made it execute the script) This seems to have worked fine for me. I tried this out because I was getting tired of every single boot up having corruption. I've been very happy with the results. I dearly hope this could be of any use as this is probably the number one ARGH bug since ye olde window corruption bug from nvidia 177 drivers ;) I think it should be noted that my computer hasn't had internet since May so I am pretty far out of date. -- visual corruption affecting several panel applets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 606743] [NEW] Rhythmbox missing normal iPod/iPhone/mp3Player synchronization feature
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with Rhythmbox 1.12.8 and an iPod Nano 5th Generation. I can't figure out how to sync music and podcasts (in both directions like iTunes does) between RB and the iPod. Can Rhythmbox even do it? I think I have all the codecs necessary and Rythmbox has the Portable Players - iPod plugin installed and enabled. After much experimenting I figured out I can drag and drop individual Podcasts from Rb to the iP (but not in the other direction) and songs in both directions, but the interface is not intuitive at all and I can't figure out if there's a way to sync up as I normally would with iTunes. I also can't figure out how to move playlists from one to the other. After I figured out the limited workarounds noted above I saw similar workarounds proposed as an 'answer' to Question #97074, but I do not consider work arounds an adequate answer to my question. Since Rhythmbox is the default player in Lucid I believe it needs to 'just work' in order to give the fantastic user experience that Mark Shuttleworth has made the goal for Ubuntu. If these features are just missing as it appears, I consider them deficiencies in Rhythmbox and I'll create bug/wishlist items for them. ** Affects: ayatana-ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Rhythmbox missing normal iPod/iPhone/mp3Player synchronization feature https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/606743 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 606756] [NEW] GUI setting needed to disable or enable wake from suspend via mouse (or keyboard)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager When I suspend my computer I want to be able to wake it up again by pressing a key on the keyboard. By default this isn't possible. Having added the following line to my /etc/rc.local script: echo UHC1 /proc/acpi/wakeup I can successfully wake the machine up using the keyboard. Unfortunately the above line enables any USB device to perform the wakeup, including the mouse. This is a problem because the mouse seems to be hypersensitive and often wakes the machine up immediately after suspending it (just walking by the desk is enough to trigger it). To disable the mouse from waking the computer up I figured out that I need to run the following command: echo disabled /sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.4/power/wakeup So, problem solved for me. Until I plug the mouse into a different USB port and the file I need above changes :-( But this sort of hacking is pretty user hostile, especially when it is so easy to do under Windows - just go to the Power Management tab of the appropriate device and tick or untick the Enable this device to wakeup the computer checkbox. The gnome-power-manager should have something similar so that there is a GUI available where ordinary users can enable or disable the required functionality. They should be able to enable or disable both the keyboard and mouse separately. If either of them are enabled then the appropriate line should be written to the /proc/acpi/wakeup file automatically (and persist over a reboot). Ditto for writing to the power/wakeup file. [Bug 433714] Re: initial empathy account wizard does not offer IRC as an account
I completely disagree with this bug being labeled of 'Low' importance. Note that this is important enough that it will need to be included in the liveCD of Ubuntu 10.04, Lucid Lynx when it gets updated. Otherwise since Empathy is the default IRC client new users of Lucid may mistakenly think IRC is simply unavailable to them. This is vital because our #ubuntu-beginners, #ubuntu, and many other support IRC channels are critically important to new users. ** Also affects: ayatana-ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ayatana-ubuntu Status: New = Confirmed -- initial empathy account wizard does not offer IRC as an account https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433714 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 512156] Re: Empathy fails to send files while on google account
I've recently encountered a problem of sending files via Gmail to Gmail accounts. I'm using Empathy 2.30.2-1~ppa10.04+1 Recipient is using Pidgin on Ubuntu 10.04 From my side the file transfer shows 100% complete, however recipient is only obtaining 98-99% of files before been told the sender me has cancelled the operation, which isn't the case. The transfer dialog window remained open until the receiver confirmed to me the receipt of file. -- Empathy fails to send files while on google account https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/512156 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
