[Bug 390392] [NEW] regression - resume failure in Jaunty on Dell Latitude D820
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I upgraded from Intrepid to Jaunty today. Resume has not worked since then (tried 5 times). I tried running the test script [1] - fails to resume. The problem seen is that a resume attempt appears to happen, but the screen remains black, intermittent light disk activity, unable to switch to virtual terminal and keyboard input appears to be ignored. This is a regression. Suspend / hibernate and resume were working fine before the upgrade. I reported a previous problem when upgrading from gutsy to hardy, which was previously fixed by some unknown update. This bug is reproducible. It has failed to resume 5 out of 5 times. It worked before the upgrade. No flashing CAPS or anything - the only time I've seen that is when I upgraded the memory on the laptop and didn't seat the module properly. $ lsb_release -d Description:Ubuntu 9.04 [1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/SuspendResumeTesting ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- regression - resume failure in Jaunty on Dell Latitude D820 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390392 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 616718] [NEW] Choosing the default browser should also configure x-www-browser alternative
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Selecting the default browser with gnome-default-applications-properties only configures which browser gnome-open opens, but not the x-www- browser alternative of dpkg's alternatives system. This means that programs which use x-www-browser to open the default browser (such as Gwibber, although it seems to vary whether it uses gnome-open or x-www- browser) can still open the wrong browser. From a user friendliness standpoint and according to the principle of least surprise it would be great if gnome-default-applications- properties also configured x-www-browser, so users can be confident that their default browser choice is always used, and not just by a seemingly random subset of programs (those which happen to use gnome-open). [Bug 616763] [NEW] Launching alternate Window Manager changes default Window Manager with no option to reset
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, with gdm version 2.30.2.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu3. When another Window Manager is installed that gdm adds as an option to run with Gnome, for example e16, selecting the e16 Gnome option will cause the normal Gnome and Failsafe Gnome session options to always use that window manager instead of metacity on future logins. There is no option within gdm to go back to using metacity with Gnome, and the only way I could find to reverse this was to manually edit a line in ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/session/required_components/%gconf.xml to read metacity instead of e16. In fact, this has disabled all my 3D effects like true transparency, so I may have to edit that file again to read compiz or something, quite a mess when I have to reverse unwanted changes to my default settings in this manner. It would be preferable for the Gnome and Failsafe Gnome options to always use metacity (with whatever user set 3D effects) as a window manager, although another possible (but less optimal) solution would be to add a metacity Gnome session option like the e16 Gnome option. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: gdm 2.30.2.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-24.39-generic 2.6.32.15+drm33.5 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-24-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Architecture: amd64 Date: Thu Aug 12 13:11:42 2010 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release amd64 (20100429) ProcEnviron: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gdm ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug lucid -- Launching alternate Window Manager changes default Window Manager with no option to reset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/616763 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 608833] Re: Gnome Panel hangs and renders touchpad and mouse unusable
Got it! What was messing up the panel and mouse clicks was my xmodmap button mapping on the mouse. I've been using this since 7.04, but it appears that things got a lot more sophisticated recently, and you shouldn't use xmodmap for button mapping unless you really do want to modify the settings of the virtual mouse device and get the effects I've been seeing. What you should do is use xinput, which allows you to modify the button map of a specific hardware mouse, and in a way which is a lot more flexible than xmodmap (e.g. two different physical buttons can be mapped to the same logical button, etc.). What triggered the panel problems was either extended use over several days, or use of VNC (vinagre). I guess that with no subscribers and having fixed my problem this bug is going to wither and die now. -- Gnome Panel hangs and renders touchpad and mouse unusable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/608833 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in gnome power manager. [Bug 616833] [NEW] Evolution does not recognise configuration from an older installation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I was reinstalling my workstation (machine A) where I had been using ubuntu 9.04 (64-bit) and Evolution as a mail client with locally stored files. To prevent loss of my files (including emails) I copied the entire directory /home/konopka/.evolution onto other machine (B). I similarly copied also the entire directory /home/konopka/.gconf/apps/evolution onto the corresponding path on the machine B. Then I was normally able to use Evolution on machine B, without any need to configure my email account. In the meantime I formatted the entire disk of machine A and installed ubuntu 10.04 (lucid), 64-bit version on it. Finally I copied back the entire /home/konopka/.evolution and /home/konopka/.gconf/apps/evolution directories from machine B to machine A. Then I started Evolution on the freshly installed machine A but it was unable to recognise the existing and fully configured email account. It was simply trying to create a new configuration and I am almost sure that __it would delete__ my existing stored emails (on machine A) ! To complete my report, the machine B has a LinuxMint Helena 64-bit installed on it (it is based on ubuntu 9.10). And I add that I (user konopka) am member of the users group (I deleted the default group konopka) on machine A. I carefully checked to ensure that every my file and directory has correct ownership: $ cd /home $ sudo chown -R konopka:users konopka Each of my direcory has permission at least drwx-- and each file within relevant directories has permission at least -rw--- To prevent any doubt about the data transfers between machines A and B, I must say I used rsync -avz command.
