Re: [Bug 672250] Re: No way to stop Braesero
I am VERY willing to help. Those instructions cannot be used. What I need are EXACTLY what should be typed into a terminal. Please no explanations. Explanations are excess baggage. At least put explanations elsewhere. This is bothering me terribly. [Bug 672888] [NEW] Screensaver lock asks for password 2 times
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver When I was using Lucid, the screensaver when locking my screen would ask for the password 2 times. After the first time of entering it, the black would go away for about 1 second, and I'd see my desktop followed by it turning black again and prompting me to enter my password again. Then it would unlock. After reinstalling with Maverick 10.10 64-bit, it has been doing the same thing up. I used the ubuntu alternate installer (for my raid0 setup), I told it to encrypt my /home directory as well. Instead, I get a folder in my home with the name Private encrypted. It is pretty useless. I didn't know Ubuntu was not using LUCS and wouldn't encrypt my entire /home partition, but next time, I will make sure that that is what I get. I just suspected that this encryption ubuntu is using might have something to do with me having to enter the password twice. I hope this can get resolved. I will provide anymore information needed. Thank you. [Bug 672878] [NEW] PST import no longer available after upgrade to Maverick
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Have been using evolution quite a while (since karmic) and imported a number of outlook pst files since then smoothly. I always used the standard import procedure in evolution (file -> import -> forward -> "import single file" -> forward -> selected file -> selected "outlook personal folders" as file type -> forward -> select location etc... I am now running evolution 2.30.3-1ubuntu7 with evolution-plugins 2.30.3-1ubuntu7. When I follow the procedure above the file type "outlook personal folders" is not listed anymore, while the other types such as "evolution csv", mozilla csv", "outlook csv" do appear. The pst file I am trying to import definitely is importable which I confirmed on a fresh install of lucid 10.04.1 in a virtual box. Furthermore I checked plugin settings in evolution. Plugins such as "mail-to-task" are listed and checked (i.e. the package "evolution- plugins" seems to work), however there is no plugin "Outlook PST import" listed within the evolution plugin manager (but it used to be in the lucid and karmic versions of evolution). [Bug 670121] Re: IRC commands not working in empathy (Maverick)
My bug was marked as a duplicate of this one, which is fine, if you add the other commands that are not supported to the bug and thus the fix. "/msg" "/raw" "/qoute" Additionally this one is marked as incomplete and needing info, but I see no question. I went to the bug at gnome, but I also do not see any questions to be answered. Pedro, what questions need to be answered? This bug is a deal breaker, I can not login into FreeNode with my registered nick name because I can not use the "/msg" command to verify the nick with my password. What good is it for me to put in a nickname and password on the IRC account setup when it does not even properly log me in. I want this bug fixed, so what information do you need. If this bug continues to get ignored then I am using Xchat, because empathy can not handle the responsibilities of a IRC chat client. I will also be pushing for Xchat to get put back into Ubuntu, and will point at this bug for the reason. [Bug 672856] [NEW] Gnome panel doesn't "auto-hide" when changing windows
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Sorry if this is not a bug, as it seems to be more of an an annoyance. Reproduce: Set gnome-panel to auto-hide. Scroll mouse to top of the screen to show panel. Hit Alt+tab to change windows and keep holding alt key. Move mouse away from the top of the screen (anywhere that should trigger auto-hide). Release alt+tab. Expected: gnome-panel hides as mouse is not over the panel anymore. Result: panel is not hidden. I think it happens with all events that capture mouse focus. I did have some photos imported into Photos/1. Workaround: I've moved these directories out of the way, but f-spot still does not launch. [Bug 651659] Re: ipod will not update correctly in 10.10 using rythmbox
I'm too being affected by this bug. Just upgraded to 10.10 (64 bits) to find that my Ipod shuffle (wich was working perfectly back on 10.04) is not working anymore. I can open the ipod from Rythmbox or banshee but it then, show no files. If i copy some music to the ipod and (wait for it) eject it, the files aren't playable, i get the blinking orange light error. If i connect the ipod back, rythmbox won't show the files i've just copied, but they are there because it can, at least, show the space usage correctly. Also tried the gstreamer0.10-plugins* and nothing changed. Please fix this up, its a pain to reboot just to sync some music, thank you !! -- ipod will not update correctly in 10.10 using rythmbox https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/651659 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 83889] Re: apt shows incorrect language strings if used with specific locale settings - and aborts package installation if you confirm installation
How is this low priority? I'm not sure what is being talked about with shell environments. The way this manifests for me is that I got to System -> Administration -> Language Support (my apologies if that's not the exact wording...translating from Portuguese atm) and pick a different language and it stays with English. [Bug 670201] Re: evince freezes with high iowait, locks up entire OS
It turns out I was having some problems with a failing hard drive causing high iowait when swap memory was being used. However, I have replaced the hard drive and are still having similar problems (but of a lesser magnitude) in a clean Ubuntu 10.10 installation. I have a HP 530 Notebook PC with 1 GiB of RAM and 4.7 GiB of swap. I'm happy to provide other details if you think they are relevant. The memory usage of evince appears to move around a bit while it is trying to load the third page (I assume one of the diagrams is causing the problem) from around 300 MiB to 600 MiB, but the memory taken away from the system appears to be higher. This can be seen in the attached screen shot of system monitor after I killed the evince process, where around 700 MiB of memory and 1.4 GiB of swap are returned to the system. ** Attachment added: "Killed-evince-screenshot.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/670201/+attachment/1727488/+files/Killed-evince-screenshot.png -- evince freezes with high iowait, locks up entire OS https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/670201 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

It is composed of an automatically built part from header (on my system /usr/include/asm/unistd_32.h) sc.h file and a C source file that includes the former. a) Building the sc.h by : awk 'NR==1 { printf("#include <%s>\n",FILENAME); } $1 == "#define" && $2 ~ /__NR_.*/ { printf("{ %s, \"%s\"},\n",$3,substr($2,6)); } END { printf("{0,(char*)0}\n"); }' /usr/include/asm/unistd_32.h > sc.h b) The sc.c file is : #include static struct { int syscall_no; char*syscall_name; } scor[] = { #include "sc.h" }; char* getcorr(int syscall_no) { static charnoname[32]; int i,maxi = sizeof(scor) / sizeof(scor[0]); for(i=0;i int main(int argc,char *argv[]) { int i,no; for(i=1;i Thanks for your quick answers! > After poking a zero, I performed a little loop to get the system call number > (orig_eax) and the next two arguments (ebx, ecx) of the next 20 system calls. > This is how it looks: > > syscall=240 (1st_arg=-1210085564 2nd_arg=0) > syscall=240 (1st_arg=-1210085564 2nd_arg=1) > syscall=240 (1st_arg=-1210085564 2nd_arg=1) > syscall=13 (1st_arg=-1075451152 2nd_arg=135199597) > syscall=13 (1st_arg=-1075451152 2nd_arg=135199597) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=1 2nd_arg=-1075451340) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=1 2nd_arg=-1075451340) > syscall=221 (1st_arg=11 2nd_arg=2) > syscall=221 (1st_arg=11 2nd_arg=2) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=3 2nd_arg=-1075451340) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=3 2nd_arg=-1075451340) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=9 2nd_arg=-1075451304) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=9 2nd_arg=-1075451304) > syscall=6 (1st_arg=11 2nd_arg=1) > syscall=6 (1st_arg=11 2nd_arg=1) > syscall=174 (1st_arg=17 2nd_arg=0) > syscall=174 (1st_arg=17 2nd_arg=0) > syscall=4 (1st_arg=6 2nd_arg=134908385) > syscall=4 (1st_arg=6 2nd_arg=134908385) > syscall=13 (1st_arg=-1075451152 2nd_arg=135199597) > syscall=13 (1st_arg=-1075451152 2nd_arg=135199597) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=1 2nd_arg=-1075451340) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=1 2nd_arg=-1075451340) > syscall=221 (1st_arg=11 2nd_arg=2) > syscall=221 (1st_arg=11 2nd_arg=2) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=3 2nd_arg=-1075451340) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=3 2nd_arg=-1075451340) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=9 2nd_arg=-1075451304) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=9 2nd_arg=-1075451304) > syscall=6 (1st_arg=11 2nd_arg=1) > syscall=6 (1st_arg=11 2nd_arg=1) > syscall=119 (1st_arg=1 2nd_arg=-1210093580) > syscall=-1 (1st_arg=1 2nd_arg=-1075448172) > syscall=221 (1st_arg=9 2nd_arg=2) > syscall=221 (1st_arg=9 2nd_arg=2) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=3 2nd_arg=-1075448172) > syscall=102 (1st_arg=3 2nd_arg=-1075448172) > > This looks a little cryptic now, but you just need to have a look into > /usr/include/asm-i486/unistd.h where all the numbers for the different > system calls are defined. [Bug 672089] Re: GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
I also get the same error when running rhythmbox, I also have a UbuntuOne Music Store plugin tick open, over here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/rhythmbox-ubuntuone-music-store/+bug/629792 In general, it took me a WHILE before I realized that number after rhythmbox is the Process ID number of RB; and not like some sort of line number in the source somehow. But I also get the error messages the OP posted, except just one assertion error and the sinkfunc warning after it, not multiples of the same message. A backtrace I don't beleive is possible since, the errors come up upon loading RB, which it does fully load, meaning: there's stopping point at which you can tell gdb to "bt" since there's not really anywhere to backtrace from. I did try to compile the source, (It's been a little over a week; was hoping it'd be fixed by now -- either way, my memory is a little hazy), but I think it did compile and install properly. Just no joy. Inside of RB I get import errors for mp3 demuxer's once RB has loaded. I dunno.. *shrug* I don't know what this thing's problem is. All I know is, I have nothing but problems with this music player. (I know, that last bit was unneeded; it is true though. I confirm this bug also (screenshot attached). When the clock-applet is moved to the bottom panel-bar, it does not render its calendar/world-time popup in the correct position. [Bug 230583] Re: connecting to daap share fails to ask for required password
I can confirm that in Rhythmbox in the Ubuntu 10.10 official release version (and updates as of 5th Nov 2010) that this is still an issue. The dapp share name appears in Rhythmbox, and you can double click it, but get no further. There is never a password prompt window for the daap share password to be entered into. In my case the Daap share is on a Dlink NAS box DNS-323, firmware 1.08. Some related things have changed in 10.10 with respect to 10.04. In 10.04, with the default install Samba Configuration, Banshee was also unable to connect to the same daap share. This was filed as: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/498697 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=626388 An edit was required to the "/etc/samba/smb.conf" file, for Banshee to be able to connect. [Bug 672733] [NEW] Automatic Mark as Read fails if the first message presented on folder opening is new.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution This may be a bit difficult to explain... In Evolution, I currently have it configured to mark a new message as read 0.5 seconds after I open the message. So, for example, I open my inbox folder and there are 50 messages total and 5 marked Unread. I click on one of the 5 Unread messages and open it. Evolution then marks that message as read about 0.5 seconds after I open the message and start reading it. When I open a folder, evolution opens up a message automatically. IN some cases, this is the last message read, in some cases, it's the first unread message. The bug exists when the second case is met. When I open a folder and evolution automatically opens an Unread message, that unread message is NOT automatically marked read. Instead, I have to open a different message and then return to that message to have it marked Read. This becomes an even bigger issue when I open a folder that contains exactly ONE message. if I purge the contents of a folder, then get a new message in that folder, I have to use contextual menus to mark the message read, as there is NO way to have it handled by evolution in a automatic method. For example, please look at the screenshot I have attached. You'll see my folder for mail from the Laptop Testing Team mailing list at ubuntu.com. I recently purged that folder of all old messages. Then I recieved a new message from that list which was filtered into the folder for Laptop Testing Team. When I open that folder, the message is opened, however, it is NOT marked as read. Since there is nothing else in that folder, I can't use the workaround of clicking on a different message then clicking back on that message. Thus, the only way to mark the folder as read is to now use context menus on the folder itself. [Bug 672076] Re: does not run Update Manager from the menu and using the Alt+F2
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs.
