[Bug 682269] [NEW] clock applet does not support certain obvious locations

2010-11-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

1. Running Mint 10 32-bit GNOME edition.

2. The clock applet does not have Fiji (neither it's capital Suva, nor
it's international airport town, Nadi) available in their locations
list. This means that the timezone, weather and other information is not
usable for a user in Fiji.

Although Fiji is a small obscure country, even smaller countries and
territories such as Western Samoa are represented on this list. If
someone could just point me in the direction of the providers of this
service, I could contact them, or if it's some kind of editable list, I
could manually add them myself.

This has been unavailable for several releases now, but I guess now the
release is so good, a minor bug like this becomes very noticeable.

- A Fiji resident who who would like weather updates in his gnome
applet.

[Bug 507788] Re: In Help, Table of Contents switches from left to right when user selects topic

2010-11-28 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Users go to help for two reasons: (1) they're confused about something,
or (2) they're trying to find something.
https://www.uie.com/articles/online_information/ In both cases, what
they need is *one* particular page. Once they're done, they'll close the
window.

If they end up in the wrong topic, that's probably a problem with bad
information scent.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_foraging#Information_scent If
the help author foresees this problem but can't avoid it, they should
include links at the bottom of that topic to the individual pages users
may want instead. (For example, in Ubuntu Software Center's help, at the
bottom of the Removing software topic, I link to the Why is it asking
me to remove several programs together? topic.)

Otherwise, there's a simple way to get back to the table of contents:
click the Back button.

That's why I suggest getting rid of the table of contents from topic
pages.

Jeremy, that's a good question. One example that occurs to me is where
two people are chatting with you at once: their messages shouldn't
appear in the same bubble. It would be interesting to collect a sample
of $HOME/.cache/notify-osd.log files and count how many of the
notifications would make sense appended vs. how many would not.

[Bug 682347] [NEW] Rhythmbox can't deal with UPnP media from Fritz!Box

2010-11-28 Thread ullix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

On Ubuntu Lucid with the package rhythmbox-plugin-coherence installed:
Rhythmbox encounters myriads of errors when reading media served by an
AVM Fritz!Mediaserver. On the very same system, totem can find and play
the media (both music and video) perfectly well.

The mediaserver is an internal part of the DSL router Fritz!Box 7270
from company AVM. It reads from an external USB-disk, set up with some
2000 music files and a dozen video files.

Upon starting totem it finds this mediaserver and offers the files
almost instantaneously, but when starting rhythmbox from the command
line, first this is shown in the terminal (note: there is an additional
mythtv video server):

~$ rhythmbox

2010-11-28 Thread Julien Lavergne
** Description changed:

+ Please sync libimobiledevice 1.0.4 from Debian experimental.
+ Build ok on natty (2010/11/28) :
https://launchpad.net/~gilir/+archive/unstable/+build/2067371
+
+ Due to Debian freeze, it was uploaded to experimental, but otherwise,

+ Original report :

- Installed: 1.0.1-1
- Candidate: 1.0.1-1
+   Installed: 1.0.1-1
+   Candidate: 1.0.1-1

On connecting a iOS device one expects it to automatically mount, but it does
not, instead one is greeted by a popup with the following message:
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a

The solution is to update libimobiledevice to 1.0.4.

Rhythmbox 0.12.8 also fails to burn audio CDs from playlists - guess it
uses Brasero so this is expected.

I am unable to enable the brasero plugins just like James Schriver 7
months ago. I wonder if there is a work aound?

Just in case this matters, I also have AMD64 architecture:

[Bug 88090] Re: [apport] evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in ect_check()

2010-11-28 Thread Omer Akram
this bug is fixed in evolution 2.32
from evolution developers

After seeing no less than five crash reports about this in one week, I have
fixed the crash by removing accessibility support for the ECellText class in
2.32 and 2.91.

If ever we get someone to update our accessibility code then we can bring this
back and let him/her try and debug the crash. But until then, whatever
accessibility features the code was providing is not worth having to tell
everyone to turn off GNOME's accessibility support in order to use Evolution.

[Bug 560465] Re: evolution don't decrypt pgp encrypted message with text/plain content-type

2010-11-28 Thread Sami Mäkinen
Two emails, one decrypts and the other doesn't, despite both being
text/plain. Interestingly the one that works is ISO latin 1, and the one
that fails is UTF8. Also the working one can be from the email source
clearly identified as PGP, while the failing one must first be Base64
decoded before it becomes apparent that it is PGP.

[Bug 629257] Re: indicator applet 0.4.6: Laptop battery (estimating...) for days on end when discharge/charge time not known

2010-11-28 Thread Paul Sladen
** Description changed:

The drop-down menu for the indicator-applet battery icon menu says
  Laptop battery (estimating...)

At a minimum this be fixed to read Laptop batter (estimating time...)
or Laptop battery (estimating battery life...).

Ideally if the remaining battery *time* is not known (because less than
sufficient datapoints have been collected to enable estimation) then the
percentage should be displayed in-lieu. The percentage is already
available and is used to drive the indicator-applet icon itself.

The current implementation is specified by:

- https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BatteryStatusMenu#Items
+   https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BatteryStatusMenu#Items

but because the estimating... text can exist for days-on-end (nearly a
week in the case of this computer) it probably needs a slight tweak or
design addition to take account of the time estimation not being
available for long periods of time.
+
+ See bug #629258 for previous (lukewarm) discussions on the lower-stack
+ issues. This two bugs might want re-splitting/sorting again based on
+ those that relate to the chrono estimate not being known, and those that
+ relate to the pointless display of that unknown data for long periods of
+ time.

[Bug 419143] Re: Printing from evince (and perhaps other GTK apps) to PostScript printers is broken

2010-11-28 Thread Till Kamppeter
Everyone who has still problems, do the following:

1. Attach the file which does not print.
2. Follow the instructions of the sections CUPS error_log and Capturing
print job data on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems
3. Convert the captured print data to PostScript with the pdftops command.
4. Tell us the size of the original file, the captured print data, and the
resulting PostScript file.
5. Attach all files. Do not hesitate to attach big files. Attach the files one
by one, do not package them together and do not compress them. Only if the
resulting PostScript file is so big that it takes you hours or days to upload,
do not upload it.
6. Naturally tell us which printer and driver you are using.

[Bug 682487] [NEW] messages disappear from the inbox and index/index files are created

2010-11-28 Thread Patrick Mertz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I leave the inbox (to click on another directory) and then go back
to the inbox, all the previously opened messages have disappeared. Only
the non-opened messages remain appearing.

After having forced Evolution to shutdown and being gone to the
~/.evolution/mail/local directory, I see that files with index or
index.data extensions have appeared. I read on a website that the
cause is a power cut, but I wasn't the victim of such a problem. So,

I have solved this problem with.
In ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list file:

sudo gedit~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

and adding two lines:

inode/directory=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop
x-directory/normal=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop

after saving this, working all fine.

Dominik, can you please specify what problem this 'hard highlighting'

[Bug 682508] [NEW] SD format operation crashes if volume label is more than 11 characters long

2010-11-28 Thread tjagoda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

I did a format on a 2GB SD card by right clicking on the SD card icon
and selecting format, under FAT windows/linux compatible file system
settings. It then asks you what you'd like the volume label to be - if
you type in anything over 11 characters, the process then errors out -
but with an error message which does not hint to the user that the real
problem is their length volume label.

A good fix may be to limit the label max length on the input field, or
to give a more helpful error message.

[Bug 626724] Re: Putting the mouse over an document for example illuminates the document - but too hard

2010-11-28 Thread Paul Sladen
Speculating, but I wonder if this is because Evince currently renders
completely new text on a solid background over the top of the document,
rather than highlighting the text that was already drawn in the
document; eg. the highlight does not exactly match the shape/size of the
original document text and neither can the original text be seen
underneath when the highlight is active.
