2011-01-05 Thread Bellegarde Cedric
bugs appear with every window manager i test:
- metacity
- openbox
- kwin
- blackbox
- ...

Only working window manager is compiz so i guess bug is in cairo dock
and not in window managers...

Here what kwin devs think about it:

The claimed assumption that kwin would set size and position independently if
there's a combined configure request is (afaics) wrong, the geometry update is
blocked in the configure request until everything's done
(position/size/contrainment)

And it works with compiz because compiz set size and position
independently due to it plugin architecture...

  Binary package hint: metacity

 Hello,

 I'm part of the Cairo-Dock team. Cairo-Dock is a dock using Cairo/OpenGL
backend. It needs a composite support and it works almost well with
Metacity. There is just one problem : some flashes appear (often) and the
dock is moved quickly when the window used by Cairo-Dock is resized. In fact
Cairo-Dock resizes its window when the dock is active.
Can you have a look to this screencast? http://videobin.org/+fx/if.html

It seems that it's an old bug but sorry for that, we have never report this
bug here. I have tested on Gnome 2.26 (Jaunty) and 2.28 (Karmic - just
before my other computer breaks down :/ ). Mutter is also affected by this
 bug
This bug is much present now because the resizing is more used.

2011-01-05 Thread David Planella
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 692665 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/692665

Hi Martin,

I don't think this is a duplicate, but as you might know more about it,
I'll leave it up to you to decide if it's worth unduplicating

* Bug #692665 is about the Assistive Tools string not being translated
because of language packs missing the gnome-user-guide translations.
This might require a fix in lang-pack-o-matic.

* The present bug is about the main page of yelp being untranslated
because translations were not exported from Launchpad and put in the
package before release. This concerns strings such as Welcome to the
Ubuntu Help Center and I believe it requires a new yelp upload
including the translations added as an attachment to this bug.

2011-01-05 Thread Bellegarde Cedric
I'm now quite sure that this bug is in cairo-dock...

If i replace gdk_window_move_resize() with just gdk_window_resize() (so,
like this, dock don't move)

Here what happen then when an icon is closed:
- Dock resize itself
- Icon is remove
- Dock move to it original position !

So, this is the last move that do flickering...

With gtk_window_move_resize(), dock move at an invalid position and then
go back to good position.

[Bug 646891] Re: memory measurement is to be in bytes

2011-01-05 Thread Thomas Hood
In gnome-system-manager, memory used by a program is measured in
Kibibytes, Mebibytes, or Gibibytes, etc. According to the JEDEC memory
 standard, this is incorrect.

According to Ubuntu policy (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UnitsPolicy) it is correct
to use base-2 (i.e., kibibytes et al.) for RAM sizes.

[Bug 80780] Re: uses unusual units to report memory and disk sizes

2011-01-05 Thread Thomas Hood
I realize that this bug report is, according to the title, only about
memory and disk sizes, but comment #19 above mentions that network
throughput uses KB/s (in the tooltip) and I would like to point out
that this is indeed contrary to Ubuntu policy and the bug still exists
in Ubuntu 10.10. According to Ubuntu policy
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UnitsPolicy), kilobytes should be symbolized
kB.

I was about to make this comment at #366235, since that began as a
report about incorrect network speed (throughput) units, but the
latter has been assigned to gnome-bugs #580471 where the discussion has
sidetracked into the question of whether the average user prefers to see
throughput measurements in bits or bytes, and into other questions.

Perhaps the decision whether to report bits or bytes can be left to
upstream; but let Ubuntu make sure that the symbols used always follow
Ubuntu standards.

[Bug 697675] [NEW] crash during folder move exchange-this_computer

2011-01-05 Thread indium
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When drag-and-dropping folders with emails and subfolders from an
Exchange 2003 account to This Computer, Evolution crashes in ~50% of
the situations.

Also, moving of a folder with 1 sub folder and less than 100 small
emails can take minutes.

Moving such a 'folder-structure' back to the exchange server doesn't
work at all: it never ends and two messages are displayed in the bottom
status line: storing folder (100% complete) and generating message
list (0% complete).

I'm running ubuntu 10.10 on a Macbookpro 6,2.

Maybe someone can try to reproduce this.

[Bug 697680] [NEW] move-folder-to only goes 1 level deep

2011-01-05 Thread indium
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Moving a folder containing emails, subfolders and emails in those
subfolders does not move the whole tree.

I'm moving emails from an Exchange 2003 server (exchange plugin, not
mapi) to This Computer.

There are no error messages, but the tree on the source (Exchange
server) is not removed. In the first level deep all emails are moved to
the target (This Computer) but the source subfolders are still there
with their content.

I then manually move those subfolders by hand (during which Evolution
crashes: #697675).

[Bug 662794] Re: Evolution crash on large IMAP move

2011-01-05 Thread iMac
I tracked this issue down to some faulty failover logic that triggered
on high load on the multi-homed connection I am using. The failover was
seemingly transparent for short transactions, but as the public IP
changed during this large IMAP activity, the result was a crash. It
may have failed over and back to cause the crash, but since the failover
logic was corrected, and is no longer repeatable due to the impact to
this particular environment, I will not be able repeat. Not likely to
occur again, but worth noting just in case somebody trips over this
scenario again (perhaps switching between wifi and 4g).

[Bug 697699] [NEW] Uncaught crash when importing DVD as image

2011-01-05 Thread David Nielsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Currently in Natty I am seeing a crash in Nautilus that is uncaught by
Apport.

(likely requires libdvdcss)

1) insert DVD
2) in the Computer nautilus view right click DVD and select copy disc.
3) set as an image
4) when finished, insert new disc.
5) Now for some reason you need to hit reload or the copy disc option does not
appear
6) Click copy disc

Now Nautilus crashes, however the DVD can be imported once Nautilus has
been restarted.

Why this is uncaught by apport I don't know, also launch Nautilus in a
terminal does not provide any helpful output.

In dmesg this seems to appear after every crash.

I have taken a look and I wouldn't consider adding scroll bars to the

interface should allow to not be full screen and the window to be moved

the extra margin which look like a bug on the classic edition though
since there is no launcher or anything over this space, what issue do we
try to solve exactly? icons don't go under the launcher space by default
or when auto aligning the icons, they will only do for users who decide
to go in manual layout and put something there, it doesn't seem worth
adding hacks over hacks just to prevent those users to use the space
under the launcher?

That seems to be very easy to get into, though? I noticed this myself
when switching to unity, the left column of desktop icons got hidden.
They were originally layed out automatically, then I moved some of
them around a little.

Now I manually moved them all a step to the right, but of course that
requires getting rid of the launcher first; I used gconf-editor to
enable autohiding, but now it appears again on an empty desktop.

ok, seems indeed that the default left margin is not enough to be out of
the launcher space, maybe we should just set the value so they don't get
under the launcher without blocking manual placement, that should be
enough for most cases and much easier than trying to block users screen
space from manual placements done by users

[Bug 697756] [NEW] iPod and iPhone movies are played with incorrect orientation

2011-01-05 Thread Michael Doube
Public bug reported:

Movies made with iPods and iPhones are encoded with orientation
information, because users hold them in arbitrary positions when
recording movies (they are meant to, there is no right way to hold an
iDevice, apparently. Unless you are making a call on an iPhone 4). At
the moment I see upside-down and sideways movies sent from iPhones and
iPods.

If you hold the device on its side while recording a movie, playback
should recognise this and have gravity in the recording represented in
the most sensible representation on the display device (in most fixed
monitors I guess this is positive on the Y axis, if (0,0) is on the top
left). I.e. match gravity in the recording to gravity on playback.

The same issue occurs when burning a disc with gnomebaker: gnomebaker

confusing dialog.

Re: [Bug 697481] Re: Evolution In Box does not show correct number of messages. Number of messages in In Box is flactuating from 100 (correct) to 250 (incorrect), giving different figures every time I

2011-01-05 Thread Paul
Thank you for your prompt response.

Wrong number of messages (jumping figure from the right one to the
absolutely unpredictable) usually happens to In Box folder only.
I'm not sure what to answer regarding type of folder it actually is, but
I did not change anything since Evolution was installed with Ubuntu
Lucid in June 2010, then it started to happen when I have upgraded
Ubuntu to 10.10 Maverik last week... so probably it is somehow not
in the line with the newer system upgraded?

If you please tell me where to look for specific folders types, then
I will probably be able to answer your questions with more details.

Thank you once again,
Paul

[Bug 697797] [NEW] Close icon for active tab is larger and cut off

2011-01-05 Thread August Karlstrom
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

In gedit 2.30.3 the active tab has a close icon which is slightly larger
than for inactive tabs. This larger icon is also cut off on the right
side (see attached screenshot). As a comparison, Firefox uses the larger
version of the icon but it is not cut off. I use Ubuntu 10.04 with the
Blackbox window manager and the default GTK theme.

without talking to people first, as it ends up subscribing lots of
people who will end up being spammed for ages with comments that they

That's also exactly how I'd describe the idea of allowing all users to set
timezone without authentication on laptops. :-p

Well, then the easy answer is to do neither.

Anyway, it's not the place to discuss the choice of automated timezone
detection: go to the gnome-control-center list if you really to want to
 argue this.

No thanks. People love to add features. You can't stop someone who
has a pet idea that they haven't
thought through very carefully. They just produce self-justifying
reasons and don't listen.

Me, I'll just turn it off when it appears. Then in 5 years, either it
will become useful,
or the distros will cause it to default to off.
