[Bug 714958] Re: desktop should disable automounting when screen is locked
Revoking at_console privileges is neither practical nor desired. It would mean that you couldn't access the sound card or your modem any more while the screen is locked; also, this would mean that the desktop would need to get the privilege to give back at_console privileges to itself when unlocking, which really shouldn't happen. I think for this scenario it would make more sense to disable automounting while the screen is locked. This needs to happen in nautilus, or perhaps the gvfs volume daemon. I'll discuss that with upstream. [Bug 715874] [NEW] should have apparmor profile for gnome-thumbnail-font
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Nautilus normally uses gnome-thumbnail-font to provide font previews. Eg: $ gconftool-2 -g /desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/application@x-font-ttf/enable true $ gconftool-2 -g /desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/application@x-font-ttf/command gnome-thumbnail-font %u %o If a flaw is discovered in a font library or Gnome and a user navigates to a directory that has a malicious font file, gnome-tumbnail-font could be used to execute arbitrary code, write out to files or leak information. [Bug 715874] Re: should have apparmor profile for gnome-thumbnail-font
Attached is a preliminary profile to achieve this. It was tested with various font files based on http://gfontview.sourceforge.net/features.html as well as with nautilus. [Bug 95853] Re: Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before sending files to the trash in Nautilus
After 103 comments, I don't know why I am compelled to jump in. OCD, I guess. In pseuocode: IF NOT Options.Behavior.ComfirmMoveToTrash.Checked OR Confirm(OK to move filename to trash?) THEN MoveToTrash This is bloat? Seriously? I detest Windows. I'm convinced that Microsoft is the company Dilbert works for. I tell all my friends how wonderful Linux is, and what an easy path to Linux Ubuntu is. But then I have to add: It's still a little geeky around the edges. For instance, if you accidentally hit delete, it will move files and even whole folders to the trash without asking--but don't worry you can get them back. But the trash can isn't where you expect it to be. It's down here... True, one of the things I love about Linux is that it runs fast on cheap hardware and I suppose bazillions of confirmations could add up to bloat, eventually, but you'd have to work hard to overtake Moore's law. I fact, I think you'd have to make it a priority. Maybe an even cheaper fix would be to put the trash bin on the desktop by default. That's where refugees from Windows expect to see it. Since Ubuntu is positioning itself as the gateway to Linux, the option could be set by Ubuntu's installation. This behavior is alarming only because the Delete key says Delete, not Move and because a new user might not notice the trash bin hiding out on the bottom panel, but if the trash bin was highly visible, that should solve it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95853 Title: Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before sending files to the trash in Nautilus -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

This affects me too, on an HP HDX16t laptop. I tried the PPA version of upower given above with no result. Strangely, looking at upower's dbus interface in d-feet shows that it knows my energy_rate (discharge rate) and the amount of energy in my battery, but doesn't calculate time_until_full or time_until_empty. It reads these from charge_now, not current_now. My current_now is -1000, but I don't see how that could be causing the bug. I'll fire up gdb and have a look at upower if I can. [Bug 716225] [NEW] Evolution crashes immediately when I click on calendar button
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10. I was previously running 9.04. Evolution found the previous file and opened okay. I have all email, contact, and task functionality working. When I click calendar button on type Ctrl-3, the program crashes with no error message. [Bug 716256] [NEW] extra panel should be able to follow dir changes from the other side
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus if you have two similar directory trees and want to compare/maintain these, you happen to change relative directories in the same manner a lot i.e. change left panel to subdir A, change right panel to subdir A, copy/edit stuff in left or/to/from right panel, cd .. in both, cd subdir B in both... the dir changes done on one side could be automatically applied to the other side. this is done by some file managers and ftp clients that use the commander like view. this behavior should of course be switchable (e.g. via a menu entry in the go menu synchronize panes). ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/716256 Title: extra panel should be able to follow dir changes from the other side -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 716259] [NEW] command to change focus between extra panels
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus when working with the extra panel one changes focus from one panel to the other often. this can be done via mouse clicking or with a huge amount of tab/shift+tab presses. either the order of the focus changes should be changed (would probably break gnome usability guidelines?) or there should be a new menu entry and keyboard shortcut added for this. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/716259 Title: command to change focus between extra panels -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 713115] Re: pygobject reference leak fix causes a lot of PyGTK apps to fail
We discussed that yesterday on IRC, and we now found a solution which keeps binary compatibility with existing pygtk. It's a hack, but it will do for the pygobject-2-28 branch. On the master branch, codegen will be removed entirely now. ** Changed in: pygtk (Ubuntu Natty) Status: Fix Committed = Invalid ** Changed in: pygtk (Ubuntu Natty) Assignee: Martin Pitt (pitti) = (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to pygobject in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/713115 Title: pygobject reference leak fix causes a lot of PyGTK apps to fail -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 709935] Re: File MGR is very slow on any type fs
Today, the disk and file manager are behaving as if there is no problem. I was able to do all of the operations I am used to. I think that this bug can be closed or transfered to an open question about finding processes that hog the disk, for it appears that the much improved performance is due to some process that was hanging on the device that died or was killed by a different process that used the disk. In Solaris there used to be a command, fson, that showed all processes with command name and owner, that are using a disk device. I haven't found the same command here, and top(1) hasn't helped. Even longer ago there was one of the *stat commands, it might have been systat or netstat that could tell you which processes were using a disk. I think that there is a process deadlock or contention issue, but it is at the system level and sudo with commands ought to be able to diagnose and resolve it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/709935 Title: File MGR is very slow on any type fs -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 716280] [NEW] gvfsd-metadata process pegs CPU while nautilus waits
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I have been getting delays of 30-60 seconds when nautilus copies data on an NTFS filesystem in a 1.5 TB My Book external USB disk from Western Digital. I was able to see the process that has 100% of the CPU and causes spinners in my Nautilus Windows until it finishes. It is gvfsd- metadata, for which I have no man page. Today, I closed an earlier bug thinking that the problem had resolved itself as I had nominal functionality with nautilus then. I noticed that the problem returned and looked at running processes with top (1) to see what process appeared and what it was using when it ran. I don't know what gvfsd-metadata does or how important it is, but it seems to be the hog process. As soon as it exits I get the FM back. It appears whenever I move (drag) files from one dir to another. Another bug where I had long delays moving a 1.0 GB dir from the boot drive to this external drive, may be the same problem.
